Insufficient Storage - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey all, the forums been great at helping me with any issues I've had so I thought I'd throw another one your way. So just a moment ago when attempting to update some apps as play store notified me of the availability and it's giving me an "insufficient storage" msg I'm just trying to update swiftkey and google maps and I have over 6gb left, could someone please help me out with what's going on here? My next thought is to wipe phone and start from scratch but we all know the hassle that can be. Please help thanks.

i sent you a pm

Any other takers? The pm'd method did not work and it's really annoying now because I was just able to do other updates it specifically won't let me update swiftkey, maps and crunchyroll. 2 out of these 3 are important lol and once again it just did 4 other updates with no problem just stops with these ones. Please help me or I'm gonna have to do a wipe and format my data just to be sure. Would rather not especially as I'm at work now and wifi is at home.

Any time I have gotten this error when trying to install an app (via play store or otherwise) it was due to a stuck (locked/corrupted/wrong permissions?) .odex for the app being present in the same directory as the app.
Use a root enabled explorer (ES File Explorer) and navigate to the directory where the app is located (/system/app for system apps or /data/app for user installed apps). Look for a file with the same name as the application's apk but it will be a .odex file. Delete this odex file and attempt to update from the play store. If deleting just the .odex file doesn't help, try deleting the .apk as well and re-download/install the app.
I hope this helps. If there is no .odex file present then I'm lost as like I said, the only time I have gotten that error is when there has been an .odex file present that I assume was had either improper permissions or corrupted.

The data folder contains the downloaded/installed apps? I have mine though, consists of the downloaded apps from the android market.

/system/app contains the pre-installed apps (the ones that you cannot delete normally)
/data/app contains the user installed apps
Anyways what files are you looking for? Im pretty sure your phone has root access, as user level access cannot view whats inside the /data folder.

Buddy, just get the TFT file of your firmware version and do a quick flash using flashtool without wiping the data. That should solve all your problems

Accidently deleted GoogleServicesFramework.apk, how can I fix the problem?

I searched the forum. It seems a rare case that misdeleting the service application.
The story is quite simple. I wish to maximize the use of internal memory so I moved some applications from /system/app to /vendor, where roughly has 120mb unused space. All these files had been created symbol links under /system/app. Most of them worked fine, except the GoogleServicesFramework.apk, which I reckon verifying its physical path.
So I moved it back. The sad part was that I forgot the symbol link was still there. The file overrode the symbol link which linked to itself therefore axed it to 0 byte. Soon I found how serious it was. All google related service were down, the play store, the talk, the map, etc. The google service must do some verification so I can't simply find a GoogleServicesFramework.apk to replace it. I can't install it either. It failed instantly.
I don't know the background of GoogleServicesFramework.apk. Maybe I should remove all related applications then find a package to install all of them. Is there anyone knowing how to fix this problem?
My Xperia Play is 800a, version 2.3.4 kernel 2.6.32.9-perf build 4.0.2.A.0.42. It is my first andriod device and here is my first post so please be kind.
Wait for someone here to upload the file for you or back up your files and reflash.
well as you said you tried to install it and it instantly failed, it will
you should get that app and copy paste it to system/framework and before that CHANGE ITS PERMISSIONS
how? copy it to system folder go to permissions using root explorer and change them to r-w-r-r i.e tick first three row buttons and 2 column buttons

yeah, I've checked the permission. It's rw-r-r. But every GoogleServicesFramework.apk I've downloaded are slightly different in size. I suspect this file is highly sensitive to versions.

i think you should try them and what you have got to lose? if you want your system (without GSF.apk) back just make a nandroid backup.
and you always got option of flashing stock firmware......
Another thing you can try is download a stock .ftf file, extract it and look for the file within the system files.. Copy paste and Bobs your uncle!

The problem has been fixed. Thanks to every one. You guys gave me a lot of hints. The solution was like that:
1, uninstalled the play store from setup and removed the incorrect version GoogleServicesFramework.apk under /system/app
2, extracted the GoogleServicesFramework.apk from a ftf package carried 2.3.4 version. It should be 2MB around. The previous downloaded one was only 1MB. Maybe that's the reason it failed to install.
3, installed it, not to copy to /system/app! Then there will be a file like com.xxx.gsp.apk under /data/app directory.
4, rebooted the phone and would see the google store appeared. All services returned normal. Hooray!
I didn't try to move it back to /system. Most apps in /data had been moved to /system and /vendor so there are 200mb left in /data, fare enough to me

Zeki tbd753b is it possible to gaini root and google play

Long time lurker first time poster here.
I recently bought a Zeki 7" TBD753B. I would like to obtain root and install google play however I can only find firmware for other model numbers. Does anyone know if it exists? The only thing I can find on this tablet is a warning not to buy, however I have not experienced the wakeup bug stated in the only other thread mentioning this model and the device seems to work quiet well for the cheap price.
Im mostly looking to get adfree working being as ads do slow this device down.
Thanks ahead of time.

Search XDA forums for Crystal Root zip.
Will install SuperUser and BusyBox on TBD753B. Confirmed working on my device FID: BN
That is the million dollar question. So far my answer is, you can't. First you'll need root access, I described that above. Put crystal zip on SD card, do not unzip file. Shut tablet down. Boot by holding volume down and power buttons. Should enter recovery, select update from EXT, select crystal file, then reboot now, you will see android updating message and then have superuser and busy box installed. That gets you about 50% there. I have tried to flash gapps without luck using the correct files. I believe the problem with this device to be the firmware. It's for ICS. I am thinking about rolling back OS to 4.0.3 and trying from there. The TBD782 is almost identical, thinking of trying a modded ROM I found in XDA forums. Basically that gets you to where I am. I believe the device is actually a momo9 variant/clone with allwinner a10 compatible chip. The manual I downloaded from above manufacturer (I can't post links yet) is identical to the TBD753B. You can also get a working version of livesuit from them. Hope any of that helps. I will report back when I have a working method.
Thanks for the replies. Please let me know when you figue something out.

I'm confirming root technique. 100% working.
can't find crystal root zip
I tried a search for crystal root zip and could not find on the xda site but did find a link using google but am not sure it is legitimate. Where on the forum can I find the link so I know it is the correct file? Also I was able to install Google Play on the TB782B without using a custom Rom. I used Links2SD. I installed a copy of the play store apk and then converted it to system app using Links2SD, rebooted and then it worked fine. Without converting it to system app it would not work properly but once converted it worked fine. Maybe this will work with the newer model.

Vending for Google play store
the tablet is google ready you can install the vending.apk (aka google play store) just by simply tapping it without root. (wont survive factory reset)
Manual way to install google play with root (this will survive factory reset)
use file explorer/manager ie.. ES file explorer, Root file explorer etc
You can use any file manager that you want and
ITS A BASIC ANDROID KNOWLEDGE you need to mount the system folder into writable before copying or change permission
copy the vending apk into system/app and change permission into RW R R
and important REBOOT.
UPDATE
Due too many emails
let me try to explain as basic as possible
ZEKI tablet already has Google Services Framework installed you dont need to re-install it again.
If you install Google Play store by flashing Gapps zip make sure it doesnt include Google Services Framework APK on the zip files.
Otherwise you will encounter too many FC later on. Dont ask me about GApps.zip since i dont use those methods.
In order for you to access, copy or modify into/on system folder
you need to enable or mount the system folder as writable and your phone/tablet need to be rooted
You can use any file manager apps you want
ie.. ES File Explorer, Root Explorer, Astro File Manager or etc
Below is example for ES file explorer
Tap options
tap settings
Scroll down and select Root Settings
Put a Check mark for Root explorer and mount file system
You have to figure out with the file manager apps you use how to mount the File System as writtable
I dont know every single apps there
Try to GOOGLE it.
proper procedure
Thanks so much for the help! As for the update.zip can I do what I usually do and just go into settings/about tablet/system updates and update from there with the update file on the root of my sd card? And for the google apps I just copy it over to my tablet and just install after doing the update? Thanks again for your time.

Its es file explorer that was giving me problems. Ive never used it in the past, so.....i got rid of it, and used 4shared to swoop up rom toolbox. Got it on the first shot with rom toolbox.
My suggestion........use rom toolbox. It sets proper permissions for the user automatically.

[Q] Help installing .apk + Data

I got my N7100 2 days ago so I am very new to this. I am trying to install a game called Heroes Call. I have downloaded the .apk and the data files but I am not sure how to install it. I have managed to put the apk on my phone and run it so that program is now installed but I am not too sure were to put the big data file.
I have been trawling the web to try and figure it out and have seen one person say put it in /android/obb. There is no such folder in the android directory just minisnote and Data.
I have created a folder called obb and just put the downloaded data file that ends in .obb in that folder. now when i run the game the startup screen (that little monkey) just stays on the screen and nothing else happens at all.
Can anyone shed some light on this. I know its a free app but i cant download it in this country of i go through the google play store
Cheers

erm... its free
Before you begin, delete anything associated with that app. The data and app.
Since this is a free game, I'm inclined to help.
Install the app first, but don't open it. Then transfer the data files. Once that's done, you can open the app.

Install the app first, but don't open it. Then transfer the data files. Once that's done, you can open the app.

Yeh but i don't get were i am copying the data to thats what i mean. I would pay for it if i could because it looks awesome. When i install the apk it creates a folder in android/data and in that folder is Cache and Files. do i put the obb file in either of those sub files or just in the data file? the closest i have go is running the app and it say downloading resources but then i get the error no resources available
Ok since it is free, I am offering u a solution. Use 7 zip to extract the .obb file and keep it in sdcard/android. Hope it works.

Nope didnt work still just get error could not locate resources. Should have stuck with my iphone haha. Was looking forward to having a bash on that game haha
If it is an obb then copy it to android/obb. Make sure you copy the folder eg. Com.blah.blahblah not the obb itself.

maybe you downloaded a corrupted file. I just downloaded the game and its data. I am playing it right now =P
I was thinking that but it can't be. I have downloaded about 3 different versions. I am thinking now that the problem is that its not available in this country. Once you run the game does it have to connect to the play store even briefly? I can install the apk move the data files and then when i run the game the logo appears and it says looking for resources. Then after about 15 seconds it says cannot locate resources

In certain condition i think app+data backup may help
Get application + data backup of titanium from device where it is working and restore it to your device
you needs root.

How to export apk with apk+userdata
I want to backup my apps with user data. I am using Go Backup and restore but it backups both apk and user data file separately, I want it to be in a single apk file. So that others whom i send the apk don't have to use Go Backup and restore to restore my user app data.

i might be a bit late, but you have to create a folder in android called obb (small cases) and place the folder that should start with 'com.' in it. before you do this, install the apk but DONT OPEN IT.. Click done. so finally, when you have downloaded both apk and data( the folder), you can open your game which should be installed on the menu.
P.S i know im verry lat, soz.

Play Store Problem

So, I had some problems and flashed stock Nougat and OTA'd to Oreo. I then installed TWRP, rooted with Magisk, installed Viper4Android and Lucky patcher, but when I tried to install modded play store it didn't work. If I install play store as an user app it keeps crashing, if I try to install it as a system app or convert it to such it just doesn't show up nor is it on system/app or system/priv-app. I don't even mind it being modded or not, I just wanna get my play store back.
To start with modded/patched apps & the app you mentioned are not allowed on xda
You can just download the playstore and install it as a user app
You can also place it in system/priv-app/Phonesky
Set permissions to 644 and restart your phone
Some threads noted that out to me while I was searching for a fix. I'd even swear not to use it, I just wanted to bring Google Play back. For some reasong my Phonesky folder always had a device or resource busy message when I tried to delete it, so I'll have to keep manually installing Google Play and setting permissions to 644 to keep it working. Thanks a lot!

You probably didn't mount system to r/w
Quickest way is just to create a flashable zip & flash it
You can also use total commander app to manually copy the file & set permissions
You need to set root permissions everywhere in the app settings and mount system r/w
Ugh, this is the 3rd time I set system to be mounted on TWRP, 2nd one if you don't count that intial prompt. Should I mount persist and firmware too?

If you're flashing a zip twrp will automount system if you write that in your updater script
Why would you need to mount other partitions?
Was just curious if it's advised not to mount those partitions, already installed Play Store and set it as a system app with ES File Explorer. Never really did something to system partition but I've always left it mounted anyways.
