How to update apps t-mobile added to G2 rom (bloatware)

how do I update apps like Amazon, photobucket, etc.? I can't update them from the market since I didn't download the from there in the first place.

download it from the market. Just try it. Download it, dispite it not shown in the market as an update. Once installed the phone and your market will see it as an update.

First time I logged into the market, it autoupdated all the junk. Goggles and visual voicemail won't update but that's it.

Yeah, I didn't even find "Visual Voicemail" in the marketplace anymore.
I'm pretty sure that T-Mobile might have pulled it from the market entirely.
Anyway, I can't seem to update Google Goggles either. I've tried several times, but it never seems to actually update and install the latest version.
Would it be safe to use Titanium Backup to remove that system application? Or is that not even possible, considering I've read that people have tried to remove the "bloatware" but it just seems to reappear after a reboot.
Any insights?

I still have my HD2, it's just collecting dust on my computer desk right now.
I thought about using it as a fly swatter, but that seemed too dramatic!

But yeah, that thing is legendary, so I couldn't just be rid of it.

If you don't want to disable the app which is very easy to do over terminal emulator, try freezing the app with titanium backup. That way you can see how your phone will work with it disabled. For example if you freeze/disable the stock messenger app no messaging app will work after that until you unfreeze/enable the stock one. Same thing with youtube. If you freeze the app and download the newer one off the market it wont work.
Some 3rd party app depend on the stock app to be functional. Let me know if you need help disabling an app. I'll make a video. I <3 my new camera. I traded a gun for it.

I can't seem to update Goggles...
I've disabled the application, then tried to update it from the marketplace, and still nothing manages to install.
I have successfully updated every other system application through the marketplace, with the exception of Goggles.
How can this application be updated properly?

Have you tried to enable it then update?

Yeah, of course.
But from what I've been told by a few other users... it's a bug in the ROM that doesn't allow certain handsets to update that application.
I mean, unless you have been able it?

Curse google books/movies

Ok, I have no real use for Google Books or Google Movies. I have disabled them but after doing that, they still update and re-enable. I thought after disabling them, they cannot update or even be seen for updates. What gives!? I'm rooted on stock firmware. I am probably going to just remove the apk files with root explorer, but what gives. Will other disabled apps update and re-enable too?

Get Titanium Backup and freeze them.

They are enabled when you reset your device after you've disabled them. Like the member above suggested ...just freeze'em with TiBu. :good:

Multiple app download from google play.

After factory resetting my GS3, the phone does not automatically downloads all my apps from google play but I have to go in and click one by ONE......
I have hundreds of Apps and it will take very long. How come the phone does not do it anymore. It use to do it every time i reset.
what am I missing?

Did you have the the Google backup enabled when you first setup your device?

If you used a backup utility, such as Titanium Backup, it would save you a lot of headache, bandwidth, and time.

Look under Goofy Play settings. There is a secret option to auto-update all apps. People forgot about that, but not me. Here. Very simple.

If this is true sir you are a hero! I've been going through phones and OS on those phones a lot lately and installing one by one is really pissing me off. Google backup is a joke. One time in about 50 has google re-installed my apps after a reset.

That's why I only rely on multiple local backups. Cloud backups aren't reliable enough yet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this only UPDATES installed apps without user intervention, doesn't actually install an app after a restore correct.. if you've restored how does it know which apps to install?

I've never seen a local backup that will do anything more than install a specific version of an app. I want the market app this is up to date and for my current OS. Also I want them to keep receiving updates. If I backed up my apps on 2.3.3 GB Inspire 4G they wouldn't do me much good on ICS GSIII. For that matter some of my ICS apps may trip up JB. I wish I could go on google play, put checkmarks next to the apps I want and have play load them. I hate going through 3 or four screens to install each app. It's as annoying as User Access Control on Win Vista/7.

Sorry but I'm a noon but is there a tutorial on how to use titanium backup to restore multiple apps?

I'd like to know this too. I used to own the sgs2 and it would piss me off to have to pick and choose my old apps again. But sometimes Google play would do it automatically for me.
Now when using the SGS3 with cm10, it's been pretty good at automatically re downloading my apps. I just need to make sure it stays that way, but I don't know how.

Google Sync picks up most apps for you. Off course you need to have Google Sync enabled.
As far as data and other complete backup of apps and new versions of the apps you should purchase TiBu. Titanium Backup a must have for Android users.

If the ROM you flash has the option to "restore from Google" while entering your Google login during initial setup of the ROM, then all your apps will be restored.
If you don't get that option, then they won't be restored.
There is no secret setting in Google Play to get the apps to auto-install after the fact.

I just use TiBu, never had a problem and can select which Apps/Data I want to restore.

Google Account integration GO AWAY !!!

I am a conservative phone user.
What does that mean ?
It means that I want to do something, without it affecting everything else.
For instance: I want to have my emails on my ANDROID.
NO, I dont want my Google contacts in my contact list ... and ...
NO, I dont want to view Youtube videos constantly being logged into my Google account.
I want a perfectly "disintegrated" phone. Where one app doesnt affect all the others.
Also - I hate FACEBOOK, TWITTER and all the other SOCIAL SPY MEDIA out there.
I dont want them on my phone.
NO, I dont want to deactivate them
NO, I dont want to del the icon, just for the program to stay still.
I WANT THEM DEAD AND GONE
And YOU can hopefully tell me HOW TO accomplish these two things... Please

For the google account I don't know, but about the other app you can try to freeze them with titanium backup.

Best way is to create a new gmail email address for your android mobile.
that email address would be anonymous.

Google takes over the whole device. It literally takes a dump over all the phones functions.
I dont want that.
When I log in to my mailaccount, I want to do mails ... and not being logged into all google apps on the phone.
(and into the internet google stuff as well)
Now its with facebook and twitter that I dont want it to track, record and analyze my every move.
(Thats why it needs to go)

What you want is not very easy to achieve.
If you are rooted, I guess it is much easier. the customisation can go deeper.
Steps (in my opinion):
1. At first run of the phone, don't log with google account! don't check any service related to google (keep my phone backed up with google account, for example).
2. before doing anything else, disable the apps you don't need. If you are root you can even uninstall them with some apk (as you are not logged to google, you can not use market, so the app should be saved on sd card before - via backup or whatever).
3. also disable the gapps you don't want (gtalk, etc).
4. remove the settings about the location. activate the mock location in developer section of settings.
5. log to your google account. immediately after, go to accounts and sync and:
a. disable sync (so that no google contacts are synced)
b. go to the settings of the account and uncheck everything that you don't want to be synced. i think you can do only this step, but it is your choice.
6. if you are root, you can install a program to further control the behavior of the apps. it is a personal option, there are multiple choices.
7. make a reboot. your phone should be free (or close) of any google 'integration'. any apps that you don't want to run should not run (twitter, fb, etc).
if I have skipped anything, anyone can update the steps.

Get an iPhone or WP

You can selectively sign out of all those apps. YouTube has the option. In Settings>Accounts & Sync uncheck everything you don't want to sync with Google. It's all there, you just have to set it up the way you want. You aren't being forced to are services you don't want to. The only things that need a Google account to work are Play Store and Gmail, for obvious reasons. Even Google Maps won't log you in automatically unless you open Latitude. YouTube signs you in but you can sign out. If you're using any version of Sense or AOSP GB, even the contacts app allows you to store contacts in phone only without syncing to Google. And it won't restore your Google contacts if you uncheck it in settings. In ICS, yes, the People app requires a Google account and can't store local contacts, but if it's THAT big an issue for you, just use a third party dialer like exDialer which has that functionality.
If you want a complete Google-free Android experience, flash CyanogenMod and don't flash Gapps after. You'll have a fully working Android phone minus Google. This also means you won't have Play Store and will have to sideload any apps you want, but that's your caveat.
And about getting rid of apps like Facebook and Twitter (which since you're unable to do, I presume you're running the stock HTC Sense firmware), read around and learn how to root your phone, and then delete the apks for those apps from /system/app. You can unroot after rooting, if that's an issue for you too.

There is only one comment from my side: he does not need to root it. the applications can be disabled without root. the only drawback is the fact that the apps are still there, but they will never start....

Correct. He can do that too. But his issue was that he wants to get rid of them completely.

Lol, I know what you mean!
You might like LBE privacy guard if you are rooted. It let's you decide which apps can access internet, GPS location, phone id etc.
I also use mybackup pro to freeze a lot of the preinstalled junk that runs in the background. If you are freezing system apps take a nandroid backup first just incase you freeze something that you shouldn't!

There are some apps, which you wont be able to disintegrate without causing something else to crash.
Best way in my books is not to sign in using google under accounts, instead use email app to configure imap gmail.
Or even better, learn how to cook, and make a barebone ROM...maybe you can share it with us if you do get a ROM like that...

Imo rooting is the only clean way to remove apps. Using an app to freeze apps causes a layer of crap running that will only hinder performance and potentially cause issues. What he wants is a non associated device. So I agree with rooting and then installing Aosp without gapps. Rooting is so easy anyways you might as well if you want that level of customization.

You can't freeze apps without root anyway. Freezing apps does not hinder performance unless you freeze something you shouldn't. There are performance benefits to be had by freezing junk that persistently runs in the background as long as you are careful what you freeze.

Really? I thought some apps could do it without root, but I have never personally tried it, so you are right I'm sure, and it makes sense. I suppose I see the benefit of freezing too I just would rather remove things all together. Seems cleaner to me.

You can disable the app (without root). That way it will never start....

Hmmm samsung apps

Do we have a list of apps that are safe to remove from our note 2's that won't affect day to day functionality? I'm new to the device and it had v about 3 times as many system .apks as my sgsII had lol.

You can remove anything that has, to do with AT&T. Navigator, AT&T hot spot etc.
Not sure if your rooted or not. But if you are, and your going into the phone system deleting stuff. Just make sure not to delete anything that has to do with Google!
Another thing you can do without rooting. Is you can disable any app you choose to. And it will not show up in the app drawer!

I don't think there is a list. As the above eluded to, if you're rooted, which I assume is the case, make a backup of everything with Titanium Backup. So if you delete something you shouldn't have, you can restore without having to do a Nandroid restore; I would confirm your Nandroid backup actually works too. You may not realize till later that you delete something you shouldn't have. I've Google Play bork all of sudden days later when I tried going into it, and after removing several other items.

You can remove Youtube too. You'll just need to use a web browser install to access it.
Some of the apps I removed were because I use a different app to do the same function such as K9 email, Google Music and ES File Explorer. I usually remove Downloads, but keep the download manager. I believe downloads is just a shortcurt to the download directory, which can be accessed easily with the file explorer app.
I'm just usually weary of the TB listing that start with "com.". I think those are more system applications.
Beyond that, it's trial and error.
If you're unsure about something, but want to test it, you can always try freezing it in Titanium Backup as well. It'll still be there, but the will inaccessible for use on the phone till unfrozen.
