internal storage files can't be seen on phone - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hi guys, for some reason none of my stuff that is saved on the internal memory can be seen in the phone. all the stuff (music, photos, etc) is being used up correctly in the space, i.e. it shows i have 538 MB of media, audio, downloads, etc out of 11.5 GB that comes with the phone. I am running CM 9 alpha 6. I think this incident happened after I got curious and wanted to play with CM 10 (shouldn't have done that). after I decided i didn't want to run it due to its instability, I went back to CM 9. But after, my stuff from internal isn't showing. Please can anyone tell me what could be wrong?

If I were you, I would use odin oc and go back to el29.

Mine is doing the same thing. I Odin'd back to EL26 and flashed Phantom's TW ICS ROM. Same thing.. No idea how to fix it.

I tried that already but no luck.. I've went back to calk 3.0, phantom's latest ics rom. Its funny that it shows as part of space consume under storage but I can't see anything in my internal storage
But when I connect phone to computer via USB and I can see them in the folder on my computer.

Did u guys try directorybind? This phone acts different (shocker) than others with official cm9/10 support so it is written the same as it would be for those phones.
For aosp Roma, unless the op says so, download the apk from xda (Google search). Read its install and you'll be OK. Source should be emmc and target should be sdcard/external_SD.

I just backed up my pictures and formatted the internal storage and it's working now. It was weird for me. Was recognizing files through any file manager, but if I tried to view photos in gallery.. Nothing. Music player.. Nothing. Strange.
Working now though.

SD Card Reader No Longer Working?

My SD card reader seems to have stopped working today. When I reboot the phone, it states it is reading the SD card, and 1 second later it is finished. Now, I can't access any data on the SD card via system programs, music, gallery, movies, etc...
I can use ES Explorer and see and use contents on the SD card, so I don't think the SD card is corrupt. How can I check my SD card reader program and see if that is the problem? Does anyone have a fix for this issue?
Edit: I am using SleeperROM 3.0.0 and the only problem I am having is the SD card reader app isn't working on boot or after unmounting/mounting the SD card. I can access all files via PC or ES Explorer.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
Ok, does anyone know how to reinstall the system card reader "software" that seems to be malfunctioning? I can't even access Titanium Backup because the system won't recognize the SD card even though ES File Explorer and my PC (when USB connected) will!
Please help!

I haven't done anything like that to my knowledge. What is a .nomedia file?
Any way to reinstall the system SD card reader?

Guys, I've noticed this going on a lot lately across several devices and different platforms of Android.
I think something might be wrong, as in some type of infected app we're all using.
I can't think of any other correlation between the many people suddenly experiencing this all at once across several different devices, many different ROMs, and completely different versions of Android.
I had a .nomedia file magically appear on the root of my internal storage on my Nexus several times today, and even after removing it my media would not be recognized at all, as well as the file would return every so often.
Someone should look into this.
Sent from my AOSP Android 4.1.1 Galaxy Nexus
I looked throughout the root directory and did not find any .media files.
Is there a way to "reinstall" the system SD Card reader app that autoruns when the phone reboots or the usb is disconnected after a file transfer?
Mine runs for only 1 second then states "media scan complete."
I am thinking my SD card reader app went bad today, if that is even a possibility. The CPU and ES Explorer recognize and play all files using non-system integrated apps (music, video, gallery being the system apps).
Also, all the apps installed to the SD Card are running fine.

Same here....... I downloaded paranoid android 1.9.9 and everything was fine until a reboot and all my pictures and music disappeared from my sd card...... Now mind you that I have flashed tons of roms .... But this has never happened to me ever...... The funny thing is that when I do a back up which I did minutes before my sd card went bad..... After my backup boots up I can see my pictures and music again.... But not for to long...... What can I do.........?

"Released a fix for ROM Manager where missing directories were causing the .nomedia file to be placed in the wrong directory. This was causing missing pictures from the gallery app. Sorry about that! Fixed in 5.0.1.4."
So even though CWM can read the SD card contents and install a zip file if needed it is a CWM problem? My CWM didn't update until today. I will reboot and see what happens.

I was having the same issue yesterday and installed a bunch of roms thinking it was CM9 but I looked and found that file strangely. Deleted after searching using my computer and POOF! all my stuff reappeared. Thanks!
Just an update. After the CWM update this morning and a reboot, the problem seems to be fixed now. The only other problem was that all my play lists on my music app were messed up. I had to restore data from Titanium Backup in order to get them to work properly. All good so far!

I'm sorry. It was Rom Manager that updated this morning, I believe. After that, a reboot, and everything worked well. I don't think it was CWM in itself. Crap, now I'm confused on what auto-updated this morning!

[NEW][KERNEL][REPACK] FK23 with AGAT tREC_v0.2.2 recovery

For those of you who would like to run stock kernels with the builds
here is repacked FK23 kernel with my recovery and some init.rc edits.
SD card read speed.
Custom boot animation support
init.d support
Link:
AGAT_FK23_repack.tar Flash with ODIN or Mobile ODIN.
Did some edits in initramfs and run some tests.
Moved couple of apps to sd. After few reboots apps still working.
Moved apps to sd and flashed kernel separately. Apps were recognized on SD.
Tried to connect to pc in recovery.
ADB shell - works
Mount USB storage - not working. Will try to look into it more.
Hopefully it will work for all of you as well.
Don't have updater-binaries and updater-script for JB so can't make flashable zip yet.
If anyone has working JB flashable zip let me know and I'll try to make zip as well.
Installation instructions:
1. For best results copy tar file to root of your sd card
2. Use mobile ODIN to flash.
Phone will reboot.
It looks like any other method gives some problems with apps 2 sd.
Enjoy the kernel.
nice!

I have only 4 apps on sd and I moved them for testing purposes only.
gps status, root explorer, home switcher, titanium back up.
All 4 are working and I was able to move them back to device and then to SD again.

Need more information. What ROM did you flash. How did you fry your SD? are you SURE you changed the settings? If this is just a problem with stock browser is a simple solution to just remove it and use a better one?
intergalactic 2.4 and I was coming from urban ROM and now it's saying my SD card is blank and I can't connect it to my PC or Mac neither of them detect the card and I'm 100% sure I check the browser settings
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I have as well fried a few external SD cards. I always remove mine when I flash a new ROM. I just fried my girlfriends.
I do not have experience with intergalactic 2.4. I suggest running a Nandroid backup.. trying to flash over a new ROM or reinstalling intergalactic 2.4. See if that fixes the issue. Or just using a different browser if you're not too attached to the stock. I run Hellfire 1.4. Love the ROM. Hopefully someone else will have a different/better suggestion than that for you.
Best of luck!
does removing the card before you flash a rom saves it from being damaged?

[Q] Can't Flash ROMS

So whenever I try to flash a ROM I get the following error:
E: unable to open zip file
Erorr flashing zip '/external_sd/Infamous_S4_v2.5.zip'
Updating partition details
I've had the problem since yesterday and have searched different threads with the same error but none seem to have a solution.
I've read that it could be the file and I have since redownloaded the same ROM several times and downloaded different ROMs and all give the same error.
I've ODINed back to stock and re-rooted and reflashed the TWRP recovery.
I've formatted my SD card which was a HUGE pain but it was one of the suggested ideas in the other threads.
And I STILL get the same error. I have no idea what else to do. I was fine on Infamous s4 2.4. I wiped and flashed 2.5 and i lost my status bar. Someone suggested to download and reflash and that's when the problem started.
I got that error, as well
What I had to do was to download it on a computer and use a cable to transfer it to my phone.

Can you browse through the zips either through a file browser or on your computer? I kept getting that error with Faux kernel a while back. Thought I'd try to browse through the file on my computer and it would tell me it was an invalid file or something of that sort. I downloaded the same file maybe 8-10 times before I got one I could open; coincidentally enough, the one I could browse was the only one that would flash. What I'm saying, if you can't open the file, then it's a bad/corrupt file; regardless of whether you've downloaded it multiple times or not. If you CAN open it, then the problem would lie elsewhere.
Check your recovery and make sure its updated
I had same problem. It's a bad download. I got it 3 times from same rom and was determined to get it to work. Either download to computer or if using your phone make sure to download from different links. I couldn't navigate through the zip either. So maybe it was a bad upload or download.

I have been having the same problem ever since I downloaded and flashed the GE 4.3. I can't even restore my backups that I have been using just fine before I flashed GE. I have noticed however that the problem only exists with my backups on my external SD card. The one backup I have on my internal is the only one I can restore. I don't think its a bad download problem, only because it's causing my MD5's on my external to mismatch, when I never had that problem before GE. If 4.3 changed external file handling again, you'd theoretically get that response again until you wiped both external and internal storage so it could be set up as 4.2 format again. Just backup both to your computer and move things back afterward.

Yeah, the backup problem is curious... not sure what could have gone wrong there, but the problems with downloading Infamous would most assuredly be a bad download. Would have nothing to do with the file system on the SD card if the zip can't even be opened on the computer to which it was downloaded.

Im not sure but its not that i tried to backup a stock version of the latest legit ROM from samsung and it failed and phone restarted and now it show like 500 mb's left on my phone. I check all files on the phone and nothing is taking up space all the files on my phone together is like 2gb. not sure whats wrong. I installed a different rom to check if thats a issue with the stock Samsung ROM but nope it still same.
EDIT: I just tried to format the DATA partition which it shows takes up 12GB but didnt do anything.
Well if you're running an older version of CWM, you will have issues with any 4.3 roms, stock or not. I would firstly upgrade to the latest version of CWM, and then if you can, use a root Explorer either on your phone or laptop to see hidden files.
I personally had an issue due to having an older version of CWM, and I had a few gb of data hidden behind a bunch of nested 0 folders.
If you still don't see anything, then maybe a format of the internal SD thru CWM is in order. Hopefully you have/are able to back up all that info before you need to do that tho.
