Do you have to manually insert prl to get it to roam?

The phone will automatically update it's PRL and will automatically roam. However, you can't force roaming and the roam control app doesn't work for the S3 yet. There are some tweaked prls that can force the phone over to Verizon; use them at your own risk.

Not entirely true. Although it was a real ***** and took more time than it was worth, I did get roam control to work with the s3. Hackd vzw Prl is soo much easier tho. Especially if ur on stock or a tw rom, don't even need the pc

How is that you don't need a pc can you elaborate on that a little. I thought it needs Qpst for that purpose.

The phone can write a prl to itself without pc help. ##3282# in the dialer, under view. There is an option for PRL Write. Rename ur PRL file to "test.prl" and put it on the root of your sd card. press the prl write option in the data menu and it will apply it

2nd that - would love to know how you got roam control to work - which version of the software and how you did it. I tried and it didn't work. For now the manual PRL write via ##DATA# works great tho!
ill try and replicate it tonight
As I said it was a real ***** and only worked on a tw based rom. Haven't got it to work on aosp roms. I'll go back to tw a lIttle later and try it so I can give some detail. I'll say I'm pretty sure it was the latest version of rc. I also used another app which shall remain nameless. (We''ll just call it Pucky Latcher),in addition to breaking the license I think also seemed to play a role in making it function as I went back and used it several times before roaming actually worked like it should. Ill post here when I figure out all the exact steps it takes.
do you mean an option to manually force roam? if so, someone was/is working on it

Try updating profile/prl in system updates and reboot. If that doesn't fix it contact sprint and have them attempt to push it through reactivation.
But no, simply rooting the device will not solve the problem you're explaining. If the above steps don't work, just swap it out?? Clearly its not a widespread issue and likely has something to do with its activation.

Assuming you or he already updated the profile and PRL correctly and talked with Sprint (while on the phone to assure it is registered correctly!) I'd recommend using sfhub's stock root [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101] This provides a clean start with el29 modem, kernal and stock ROM, and provides root access. Since he's having problems I'd do a FULL restore (reset user data). I'd then use Auto Root with CWM - option C [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728]. That will give you a stock rooted phone with CWM for recovery and additions. Make sure all works. That may be enough. It could be just horrible reception at his place. Might want to check out an Airave device. There are also posts on how to tweak 3g/4g speeds [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265990] Then if all is working maybe think about another ROM. I'm loving Blazer. Calkulin's and Strong Steve's are also super. Good luck.

I believe I just click update prl when i want to go back to sprint?? also 11115 is the mod'ed prl that doesn't say its roaming correct?

I think 11115 let's you roam w/data but it won't force it. To force it and have the phone not know you need either 00001 00002 or 01337. U can get them here http://cdmagurus.com/prls/Other misc and hybrid/ and stock prls from http://cdmagurus.com/prls/Sprint
So I'm gonna have to cancel my sprint account an go to boost. I seen a tutorial on how to flash the epic to boost and I guess if I follow the steps ill figure my way thru, but I have just one question. If I flashed to boost mobile will I still be able to flash any rom I want? I understand I may not be able to switch modems, but at least will I still be able to use any ROM and kernel?

Yes you will be able to flash any ROM/kernel that works with the Epic. You should be able to use the NS4G modem as well. You will NOT get 4G service unless you use a 4G capable "donor" and move the WiMax info over as well.
The only "catch" is that it's always best to start with a stock ROM, make sure everything is working properly (calls, text, data, etc) and then root the phone for modding.

Is there anyway to flash a PRL to this phone running CM10.1 without having to flash to stock or using a PC? I'd prefer to drag and drop the files or use a ##xxxx# code. The ##3282# doesn't seem to work on CM10.1 and I would be switching PRL at least twice a day.

I'd like to know too but I'm sure this isn't possible.
I don't understand why it is not possible, I'm obviously no expert but .Prl is a file extension, so shouldn't there be a .prl in system files somewhere that writes to memory when the phone boots? I looked but could not find it. I imagine if we could find where ##3282# writes the .prl to when ran we could get something working on CyanogenMod. If this sounds like a possibility I'd be willing to do what I can to assist in the development. Maybe a log cat during a write??

The way I force a prl from Verizon on my note 2 is using qbking77.com method. Of course, if you just did the latest ota update you'll have to be rooted to be able to do this. Just check his site for "force roam on Verizon with Sprint gnote 2". I do it all the time. Although I'm doing it less and less now that in my local area more 4g towers are popping up and 3g is back to over 1.2 mbps now. Looks like network vision seems to be picking up.

This method only works with touchwiz roms. Wish there was something that works with cm10.1 where you don't have to flash back to a touchwiz rom.
I bought my phone already flashed to Verizon prepaid. It is currently on ICS 4.0.4 rooted stock build FH13. The guy who flashed it sold it to me and told me to never update it cuz it could destroy the flash. Is this true? Also, hot spot is working and i wouldn't want to lose that if i were to update. So should i just disable OTA update notifications with FOTAkill.apk and stay on 4.0.4?
When you update just change the APN for MMS. The flash should stay regardless of the ROM on the phone. Be sure to do a nandroid first. Also someone who has done a flash to another carrier can please chime in

DO NOT UPGRADE! If you're on PagePlus, the system WILL NOT RECOGNIZE YOUR PHONE. The place you bought it will charge you to re-flash it back to 4.0.4.
Just curious but how will flashing a new ROM in Odin or cwm make the system not recognize the phone? From what I can tell the "flash" was using the numbers from a donor phone. All the info used in the flash except the APN would all still be there after a new ROM flash. Can you not factory reset the phone after a flash to page plus as well? I would like to know what your info is. Because this is the first I have heard it.

Ok it looks like someone is saying it will be safe to update and someone else is saying that it is NOT safe to update. I cannot afford to lose the flash as I do not have access to a computer so I can't take the chance unless someone can absolutely positively for sure tell me that I will not lose my Verizon Prepaid flash.
If the Epic 4g Touch was made for Verizon I wouldnt be worried but being that its originally a Sprint phone I am having doubts. Isn't the OTA update designed for the Sprint Epic 4g Touch? If I do end up letting the OTA update install what version will I end up being on?

Well the update depends on which brand epic touch your on. (Sprint, Virgin Mobile, Boost) it will update you too jellybean either way just your modem will be different. I have a sprint brand.
Ya it is a pain to get MMS to work threw touchwiz without a 3rd party app of some sorts. I find it pretty easy on CM builds. I normally just ditch MMS and send the pic threw gmail cuz its less of a headache. But sure you can send me a screenshot of the settings. I'm willing to help as much as I can.

Interesting. I have the same settings saved on my computer for when I had touchwiz... This is what I was saying with having to use a 3rd party app and the headaches.

But i might if someone were to guarantee i wont lose root or flash AND i will still have wifi tethering capability. Im gonna do some research on the cm10.1 rom. Yea id appreciate it if you could help me out tomorrow. Thanks again man. Btw, does you're phone go into airplane mode every now n then? Mine does for about ten seconds then comes back on. It'll happen like maybe five times a day. Was wondering if that's normal. If not, is it something cm10.1 could fix?
Its not normal. There was a bunch of bugs in the ROM you are on. Being on that build though because its rooted you can use mobile Odin. To get the modem you would need to flash that in cwm though.

Yup patroa is correct. ICS builds for the epic touch were horrible. (In My Opinion) I wish I could give you a 100% guarantee that nothing could go wrong but there is always a small slight chance.
No its not normal for airplane mode to pop on from time to time.
I rooted and used mobile Odin to install a cwm and flashed a cm10.1 build all without a volume down button (can't easily get into download mode or at all) I was able to do it from a ICS build. The same build you are on.

Just follow directions to the letter. Almost all if not all issues in flashing ROMs are from not following directions close enough. You are already rooted so get mobile Odin from play store or here on xda download el26 or el29 kernel from the kernel repository DL the tar file flash in mobile Odin boot into recovery make backup wipe and flash the ROM of your choosing. There is a ton of awesome ones out there
