Need Things To Do With Your New Galaxy SIII? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello everybody!
I'm looking for new things to do with my GSIII. I was so excited to get mine and now that I have it I'm like "uhhhhh what now?"
I'm looking to try things to do, apps to try, tweaks, etc.
Any suggestions should be posted here for people who are just antsy for something to try.
Pictures to take, apps to try, tweaks, etc.
So lets have it.......

apply the latest update, customize your screens with HD widgets or beautiful widgets, try out the different motion settings, install the amazon app store to get free apps everyday, learn the best way to take pictures during the day, at night and during motion....
being disruptive to others is not ideal nor should it be looked upon as a warranted action.

I have the wifikill app I found it on google and it is amazing. Lol

ROFL that's epic.

I suggest getting and setting up "Llama", I LOVE that app! Switches your profiles based on whatever rules you set. IE It puts my phone in Quiet and enables WiFi when at the office M-F between certain times, goes into Car mode on the way to/from the office, back into quiet if i work at my night job based on if i'm in the area designated, then silent mode to sleep and launches Lightning Bug app to help wife and I sleep.
DesktopVizualizer is another sweet App to customize any icon
LauncherPro and Nova Launcher are GREAT
Dropbox and AwesomeDrop are other favorites to make life easier
Get some game emulators -N64oid, Genisoid, etc -can use PS3 and XBox360 controllers with USB OTG cable
Robin is a sweet "assistant" for car use with 100% hands free aside from swiping your hand above the phone to get "Robin's" attention

Ok after stumbling accross this post, I have managed to do absolutely nothing at all work related today. wifikill is awesome. After turning on my wifi and connecting to a network, wifikill showed 186 connections. Going down the line and dissabling one at a time is truly comical. You dont know who has what ip but looking around you see people going like wtf happened. Great find thanks

The possible advantages of ROOT being disabled in CM9..

I didn't want to post this in the CM9 dev thread because it is not dev related.
First off..
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/security-and-you
Users will be able to configure their exposure to root as:
Disabled
Enabled for ADB only
Enabled for Apps only
Enabled for both
Click to collapse
So this is what I am thinking.. The CM team is not just going to come out and say "This is how we get around Google's (and other's) 'you can't use this app if your device is rooted' thing".. But if you can disable/enable root with a setting it seems to me you wont have to worry about not being able to access certain apps, or features of apps, because of root.
Example: My "Horrible Bosses" BD came with a digital copy only accessible through the Flixster app. Because of the "security risks" Flixster will only let you view/download the movie on non-rooted devices. The simple fix to this was to download OTArootkeeper (which is an awesome app), the app essentially is a switch to enable/disable root access. Turn root off, Flixster never knows the difference.
It seems to me CM has just integrated this feature into their ROM, and maybe improved upon it. Any time an app (Flixster, Google Video & even maybe Google Wallet) will not work because you are on a rooted device, just turn it off. I have even heard of some people that cannot access databases at work because of root, seams like the same thing applies here.
So what do y'all think? Does this sound like a legitimate thought? Obviously being rooted is a security risk, and CM is becoming more mainstream. But still.. Do you think I am that far off? And do you think the "feature" will function just like I have described it? Just came to get you opinions on this change.
Sounds like you've hit the nail on the head there, although I don't see why company's don't want you consuming there content if your rooted.

The MPAA/RIAA don't understand technology, that's why. Remember SOPA/PIPA?
Why does root matter? I am rooted and can rent movies from the market with no issue. Yet people say video is blocked for rooted users. It just worked for me. Maybe cause i am rooted on stock?

Possibly, the last time I tried I got shot down. I'm not sure which of the root option(s) the Market looks for (?). Want to test, but can't find a movie I want to see just yet.

This program reports back to them if your phone is rooted and they disconnect your account if you are...

... possible advantage: have a phone manufacturer use CM as their firmware? yes....?
This was actually mentioned sometime earlier... a month or 2 ago... the idea was that if the ROM provided the best level of customization, root really should not be needed for the average user... but the ROM would still have the option to enable root if the user wanted too...

That's the problem though. The average user would not know what root is and activate it and would do something to their phone that would cause problems. U.S. carriers will not like this.
I wonder if Tasker or llama could be setup to turn root off when a particular app runs?

Here is a video of the feature in action:

Its strange to me that some people are reporting root not affecting Google Video. I haven't tried it on my Nexus, between TiVo Netflix and Redbox there is no reason for me to, but on my Atrix when Video first released I remember it saying I couldnt use the app because my device was rooted..
Those of you able to use the Google Videos app on a rooted device, what root method did you use?

Extremely useful app for rooted users - LBE Privacy Guard

Have a feeling a lot of people have already heard about it, but for anyone who hasnt tried it, definitely get it.

Its an app manager that lets you control what apps have access to. You can block apps from accessing the internet, viewing your personal info and take away any permissions you dont want it to have.
A big benefit to this also is battery life will go up as a result of blocking apps which always connect to the internet to upload your data or steam ads to you. A lot of freeware apps also have way too many permissions and this lets you effectively block them.
Its the first thing I install everytime I use a new rom

I really appreciate you posting this and letting us know about this app! I don't think I would've come across it otherwise.
So I installed it and I'm just dumbfounded at all the stuff that some apps want access to....Why the f*** does Angry Birds: Space need to access my phone's GPS data?? There's an odd one!
Oh, by the way....a co-worker of mine with an iPhone smugly showed me that the functionality of LBE Privacy Guard app is actually built right into the iOS.
Not trying to turn this into an Android Vs Apple thread, but man, that kinda got under my skin.

If I recall, there's a developer option you can enable in CM7 that allows you to do just this. Just press the permission you want to block when installing the app or afterward. CM9 doesn't (to my knowledge) have this option yet, but I'm sure it will. Good day, iPhone users =).

Its scary how many apps want full control of your phone. Ive seen them wanting to read my contacts list and even control my messaging app. A lot of it has to do with data mining of their customers. All the info they collect from you is pretty valuable and the gps thing is pretty scary too. Theyre able to record your coordinates and report the info back to them. Not to mention its going to kill your battery too with them doing this.
Security apps I use
Droidwall - simple iptables for android
PDroid - like it better than Lbe, takes less resources but needs patch and waiting for ics support
Addons detector - shows which apps have "adware, spyware, etc."
Thanks William for mentioning PDroid. The app thread is here
PDroid gives message saying I needed to build somethingortheother first in order for it to work on my OG EPIC 4G .... LBE working great right outta the box though
Wow its come a long way I remember this when I first got rooted the guy mentioned using this... but its icon was red and the ui was bland they really uped it a notch =] completely forgot about this app thanks.. love it.

Watch Any NFL Game Being Broadcast Via Chromecast

Hey everyone,
I just set this up today and it worked great. I am a Steelers fan, but I live in Bengals country. That means I don't get to see many Steelers games, because they aren't broadcasts locally on TV.
So I used a GPS spoofing app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.incorporateapps.fakegps.fre
And a Chromecast dongle hooked to my TV:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.chromecast.app
And the NFL Mobile app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gotv.nflgamecenter.us.lite
Enable "Mock Locations" in Developer Options.
Open Fake GPS app and enable a location where you know your game is broadcasting.
Open NFL mobile app and voila!! You now have access to the local games being broadcast on FOX and CBS for wherever you set your fake GPS location to.
You also need to enable "Screen Cast" in the Chromecast app, so you can mirror your phone screen to the TV. Set your screen timeout as high as you can.
I'm sure someone has already done this, but this was my first time, and it worked like a charm.
You may have to kill the NFL app to get it to switch locations as you change your fake GPS location. I always set my location first, then make sure my NFL mobile app is completely killed. Then just restart the NFL app. The new games should populate in the watch now section.
Hope this comes in handy to someone!

The GPS spoofing should still work, but you can no longer screencast NFL mobile. It's blocked on the TV as of last night.
We need an app or something that will cloak the screen mirroring...

RE:
The NFL mobile app developers must have read your post because now Chromecast mirroring does not work and neither does allowing mock locations using an gps spoofer. :crying:
They have a DRM protection in there. It checks to see if your phone is running mock locations and/or has developer options turned on. It also does not work with SideSync. It seems to be recognizing the dual streaming over a wifi connection.

Got a work around!
I just got an Amazon Fire Stick and messing around with it. I installed koush's beta mirror apk on my note 3 and all cast on the stick. Connect it and then open up nfl mobile apk. The t would of course start saying it can't be mirrored etc. That's when you open up Multiwindow with something like chrome in the other window. Click back and fourth between the two and viola should be able to stream. It might take a couple tries and I had a couple of times where sound wouldn't catch up just shut beta mirror and reopen and try again. I cancelled cable due to never watching it but needed my fix. Of course it's a little laggy and not perfect but it's a work around that's watchable! I don't have a chromecast but seeing as this was two apks I downloaded and installed off the store it shouldn't matter. Hope this helps someone I k of its the end of the season but you should still be able to get probowl/superbowl/nfl now/nfl network etc to work and probably other programs that block mirroring I haven't tried but hey can't hurt. Who'd thunk touch wiz would actually be a benefit for a change!
What apks did you download?

WANTED: EMS pulse app

I used to be a Pebble user and there was an app I used a lot called Pebble Pulse that you used to take someone's pulse. You pushed a button, counted 10 beats and pushed it again and it would tell you the person's pulse. I can't find anything like it for Android Wear.
What android wear device are you using?
Moto 360
I have this pretty much done just need to figure out how to make it an installable apk for a wear device and then I will post it. Stand by!
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Awesome!!! You rock
Well that was a pain in the arse to publish. Took me way longer to publish than to write the darn thing. Here's a link to the apk:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2zqrXJ0FV50WE0zWjFIcjItTE0/view?usp=sharing
Basically just tap the screen to start, count 10 beats, tap again.
Make sure you have "unknown sources" checked on your phone to be able to install the apk. Let me know what you think. It is bare bones and I don't wan't to put it in the play store until I get your feedback. Do you think there is a demand for an app like this?
If after installing on your phone, the app doesn't show on your 360 for some reason, let me know.
Ok you rock, where do I donate?
EMS related apps are hard to find. I think it's an untapped genre
Awesome! Glad you like it! Any suggestions? I added a "Donate to me" button under my name on the left. Thanks!
It's simple, works great. It's fine for me. Others might like color controls or something I guess... Not sure
Btw, let me know when you get it in Google play. I'll be the first to review it
Were you ever going to put this on the Play Store?
doesn't uninstall!
Installs fine here. I've installed it on 4.4.2 and 5.0
What does it tell you when you try?

I as well, was a pebble user (also thank you for telling me about Pulse Timer) just got my LG Urbane and this app is the first app installed. The most useful medical app out there.
THANK YOU!!!
Ems Breaths timer?
Can the same exact thing for breaths per minute? The app can look exactly the same but instead of tapping after 10 heartbeats, you would tap after two breaths?
I don't think this app will work for that but it would be great to have heart rate on top and ventilations on bottom.
Sent from my LG-AS991 using Tapatalk
Hey guys! So sorry I missed all this. I thought I was subscribed to the thread, but I wasn't, so I never got emails for posts and this kinda fell by the wayside for me.
I would love to modify the app to do ventilation on bottom. I will work on it this weekend and will have it ready by next week. I do have my own developer account now (previously was just my work account), so once I get it done I will put this in the app store for all to download. I won't charge anything for it.
I'm very glad to hear this app is being used! It's really nice to know this is something that can be used to help someone in trouble, and that to me is the most rewarding thing.
I will update here once I have this ready to go.
