IMO with the added bulk I'll just stick with my extended battery and have 4200mah in the phone.

I have always heard these will actually output less than that as it takes its charge and moves it to another battery. -Cannot transfer from 1 battery to another 100%
$45? ...How about $22 shipped
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2200mAh-External-Backup-Battery-Charger-Stand-Case-F-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-i9300-Whi-/140791105795?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item20c7cdc903
FYI, most of these external battery setups do not recommend charging the external battery while it's on the phone.
Wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole. This is similar with a crappy cover put on it.

Maybe the OP can vouch for the one he has, but I'd be hesitant. I went with the Qcell 4200 extended battery myself.

Yes, after testing was done, it was found that not only is the 4200 hyperion battery (and case) smaller than these, and cheaper, but they have 4200 MAH while these equate to considerably less... depending on when you switch on the external batt case. There is a point that battery can't drop any lower when charging another battery, and you loose some just in the transfer anyway.
the only advantage of this is that you can easily take the phone out and go caseless, for less bulk. but now you are caseless, unless you always carry an extra case around with you.
For me, the hyperion (being smaller than this, cheaper, and more power) was the way to go. and if I wanted to keep slim, but was going camping or something, I would bring an external USB pack (heck i even made a couple: google minyboost).
but hey, if you like it, OP, each to their own.

Trust me, Hyperion Battery isn't more powerful than this. The real 4300 mah battery is Mugen Power batteries. And The Mugen Power Batteries is $99. So Hyperion isn't a good battery. If you think 4300mah battery better than this, you should buy Mugen Power batteries.

No need to hate, just because you got less, and paid more.
Well, then the samsung OEM battery must suck too... because i am getting over twice the on time with my hyperion battery. Over 1 1/2 days, with HEAVY use (over 8 hours of screen time, plus 3 hours of bluetooth, and GPS). Hyperion have been making GOOD quality batteries for years (they used to make them for RC cars, now they do Cell phones too) just because Mugen overcharges, does not make others of lesser quality. Also, hyperion has some of the best customer service i have ever dealt with.
perhaps you should research before you make unfounded claims.
I didn't say bad things to your battery. I'm sure Hyperion batteries good too. But my case isn't bad.
your case may work, he was just saying that you will not get the full charge to convert over as i had said, plus you now have no case for your phone unless you leave it in that 24/7 or carry one around. MUCH simpler (and bigger ACTUAL AVAILABLE battery life) for cheaper with the extended battery. -plus they have 2 different types of cases for the extended battery!
I got wife and I each a 4200mah NFC capable battery and TWO backs for each of us (QCell comes with 1 blue and 1 white back per battery) and TPU cases for them for $5 more each! -and QCell offers a discount for 2+ items!

There's a slim extended battery as well, 1950mAh, which fits under the existing cover:
http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=66232
http://www.mugenbattery.com/mugen-power-extended-1950mah-battery-for-att-samsung-captivate-glide/
So its either:
1950mAh slim extended, no added thickness, giving 18% more power.
OR
3600mAh fat extended with additional 7mm thickness, giving 118% more power.
I will definitely order one of these but still not sure which.

How much extra real life are you getting out of it over the standard 1650mAh battery ?
Found this extended battery on ebay, was wondering if anyone on here has tried it, i know it looks hideous, but if you know your making a trip somewhere it could come in handy if it works the way its supposed to. Its cheap as hell too.

but what can you lose? lol
Seems to me that if the larger aftermarket brands have trouble meeting the stated mAh rating on their batteries, what more of unbranded ones that goes for an even lower value?

Buy 2 stock batteries and solder them together. Works great.
3500 real mah. I didn't think the 2000 extended batteries would fit under the cover from the Hyperion I had here. I agree though, if I can solder it up in an evening, Samsung certainly could work up something.
hopefully more phones in the future will be like the razr and give us a factory extended battery closer to 3000mah.
Razr maxx when I had it for a week was sick! Hard use all day, charged every other day, seriously insane battery life. If that phone ever gets bootloader unlocked, I would be all over it again.

Have you done this solder thing? Any tips?
if you look at the battery in the phone you can see that there is some space at the top of each terminal, use this space to solder a fine piece of copper wire to a second battery. make sure to solder the batteries in parallel, positive to positive and negative to negative, to retain the same voltage.
i remember taking apart a so called 3500mah battery from ebay and they were just two cheap 1500mah batteries tapped together. Apparently in china 1500X2 is 3500.
Why does everyone want extended batteries? 99% of people have access to a power cord most of the day and just don't need it. Granted, I'm new to the phone, but I really hope I don't need to carry around a huge battery or two. Personally I'd rather charge it more often. Just my own opinion.

Hyperion review
Just got this that arrived yesterday morning:
http://www.amazon.com/Hyperion-Exte...APABILITIES/dp/B007C8XRJY/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_t_1
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, after reading reviews, because the cover that came with my snapped right on, with no problem whatsoever. I started fitting it at the bottom and worked my way around snapping the clips in and wala - perfect fit.
I also bought this cover:
http://www.amazon.com/Hyperion-Exte...ompatible/dp/B0083HHU5A/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_img_2
It's black/honeycombed and fits perfectly over the new back, giving the whole phone a factory made look. The only "negative" to it, is the volume buttons and the on/off buttons are now alot more sensitive - the cover goes over them and it doesn't take much now to depress one of the buttons - I'm actually liking it more, as I get used to it, but I imagine you could carve the rubber off at the buttons with a knife if it bothered anyone.
Anyway, after reading the little card that comes with it and the "charge it for 12 hours, kill it 4 or 5 times cycling" - I plugged it in and after about 2 hrs, it was saying fully charged. I needed to use my phone, so I turned it on - made a couple phone calls with it and decided just to use it. I read cycling doesn't matter with a Li battery anyway, and I was just excited to see if this thing was for real.
It's 10:43 the next morning - my battery has 19% left on it and it has been on the battery for 18hrs, 8mins when I unplugged it yesterday!!! I am a heavy user too - all throughout yesterday, played a few games, many visits to facebook, web surfing texting, 10 or so short phone calls - then again this morning, surfing the web for a good 1.5-2hrs gathering news.
All I can say, is this is unheard of - I've NEVER been able to do this on the stock battery. I'm going to run this all the way down today, so I'll post back when it actually shuts down, but it's for real folks - order it! I'm thinking about ordering another one for backup - I'll only have to charge once a week!

Your statement doesn't stand. You're insinuating that the cheap-o Ebay batteries are just as good as the Branded Seidio / Mugen batteries, when that is clearly not the case.
Shifting the goal posts aren't ya. Seriously, stop spreading misinformation. I gave you at least 3 sources from various forum members that concurred the battery life discrepancy is vastly different between the generic and branded ones. (Mugen/Seidio)
Did you provide a source showing that the generic ones off of eBay have as good or better quality than the branded ones? Looks like no.
I have sources to back my claim up, you have, well, none.
example of a bad battery (trexcell)
http://www.amazon.com/Trexcell-Samsung-Compliant-Extended-Compatible/dp/B007EZ2PU2
and FYI, Seidio uses battery cells made from Japan.
I have both the seidio and the hyperion NFC batteries and they both work well for me. Can't complain about either of them. 5 hours plus screen on time usually. Yeah yeah, mod this kernel and underclock/volt that kernal and "I can get that on stock"...well I can't. I like the bigger battery as well.

Yea, I had an Anker battery for my EVO 3D and they're solid. Definitely want one with NFC though.
i am in the same boat but don't want to walk around with a brick with those 4000mah batteries. to me that defeats the purpose of this ultra thin phone. i keep an extra battery in car in case i need it.
i don't think you will find a decent capacity (say 2800-3000mah) battery without requiring a bulky extended back cover.. those that advertise this type of capacity are probably liars. i said it before, but if it were possible samsung would of increase capacity while keeping the same size.
sure you can get a 2200-2300mah battery that is the same size but it's pointless because the added time will only be like an additional 10-20 minutes compare to stock (that is of course if you even get the advertised capacity)..
battery technology needs improvement.. everyone is making better and better phones but battery technology is lacking and no on is investing money to improve them

Yep using this at the moment - NFC reception seems better on it - recognises a tag from a greater distance. Also, feels like it actually is providing 2300mAh

thanks. gonna buy one as a spare one
I think I'm going to wait until the price comes down a little bit.
Have a look at the original SGS3 battery charger. That one ships with a standard NFC battery (well in the UK)

QCell has 2300mah batteries with nfc for $10 on Amazon.
Originally bought it as a backup, but it consistently lasts longer then the OEM battery so now that's become my backup.

I read that those QCell batteries are fake. Supposedly if you peel back the sticker, they're really 2100mah.
Damn it. I wish I didn't listen and question this. The QCell I got does not have a label beneath their sticker or indication that it is 2100mah, but when peeling it back I tore the connector to the nfc. :'(

Sorry man. I was just relaying what I read in the Amazon reviews. Didn't mean for you to damage it while checking.

meh, it's not your fault. I should've been more carefully pulling the label back when I got to the front where the nfc was.
I found this thread where G1_enthusiast reviewed Anker and Seidio batteries for S3, but I also found the 4600mAh battery from Mugen Power earlier than these, and ordered it.
All I head is that cheap batteries are made out of almost expired materials and work for like 200 charge cycles, which explains their price. The expensive ones like Mugen or Seidio work for 400-500 charges, which is better, but would be awesome if some one could review the 4600mAh one. I will post my results later when I receive it, but I don't have experience in doing such tests.

reason why they are not popular is the price tag, i used to think their company is out of japan but in fact they are base out of hong kong (people tend to think china stufff are ****ty). so what make their battery better than anker or hyperion? having say that, i have own their battery before (G2 and SGS2) and they do make battery longer than stock. however i was not into crazy testing at the time. i will not pay 100 bucks for battery again, as long as anker is in bussiness.
seido is the only battery company that is base in texas...thats not to say their factory isnt in china either. they also make quality battery in the past

Well, as I head many times and experienced myself on older phones (I have a 3900mAh from Mugen for Nexus S that works for 1.5 years already) - industry standards cannot produce a good quality battery and sell it for 10$. Those batteries are usually made out of expired materials. The issue here is not just the capacity but the battery life cycle. Cheap batteries have confirmed to last for 100-200 charges, however batteries from Seidio or Mugen last for 400-600 charges, not to say about warranty and safety + NFC support.
Also, for me personally customer support and brand presence is more important than being cheap. If I can afford a phone that costs 800$, I surely can get a good quality battery for a 100$. I will get the battery soon, btw, and will let you know.

I wonder if the Mugen battery will work with the extended cases that are being offered. I got one from Hyperion that I like. Judging by pictures it looks like the Mugen extended door may be a little bigger or designed different.
If the Mugen would fit with the other extended doors and TPU cases I would buy it. I've had great luck with them,

If a cheap extended battery lasts for 200 charges and I charge it every 2 days, it's still going to last over a year. I expect to have a new phone by this time next year if not sooner. So what's the big deal?

Good point, I always try to get the best deal, but for some reason I stopped using ebay batteries long time ago after a couple of duds.

That is why you go for tested name brand but not super expensive. a mugen costs more than 5 times what a hyperion, qcell, etc. costs. but it is very unlikely they will last 5 times as many charges. there is nothing like a fresh battery!
Well, they're always out of stock...I guess they never back back-logs. Anyways, I've received my S3 battery and now I need to calibrate the phone according to their instruction. They say that it's necessary to charge 4-5 times for 8-12 hours before the phone recognizes the new capacity. Does anyone know why?

$100 for a battery! That's more than half what I payed for the phone itself

Why didn't you buy a stand with extra battery that recharges both at the same time and just carry the extra one with you? I did, 18 pounds in amazon.uk. That way there is no extra bulk, and it's much cheaper!

Who said anything about not carring it around? I also carry it around, along with the extra battery. At the end of the day i put them both charging.

Thanks. Is this the official Samsung extended battery kit? Also, does the S3 fit in this dock when used with either an Incipio or SGP Neo Hybrid case?

This is not the official one, it's Chinese. But in a emergency the extra battery does the trick. The phone won't fit with the case, you have to take it off.
