Bell Canada LTE supported Roms - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello;
Is Kyan rom the only rom that supports LTE on Bell Canada i747m?
I've tested a bunch of other roms and I can never get LTE speeds.

I'm pretty sure your modem would have to do with speeds. Not specifically the rom itself. Although I'm pretty green to the S3 still lol. Heck it could even be Bell.

true from above, I think your modem is the most important, you need that to make your phone connect correctly. When I had my I9000 I flashed CM9 and coverage sucked because it was really for internally version of the phone and didn't cover my 850mhz here in Canada. Just flashing a new modem in CWM fixed it up. Do some searching I'm sure you can find it.

What do folks using the T989 on AT&T use for Radio?

I my self have a Skyrocket on AT&T. But I bought one for my mom, a Tmobile T989 which is unlocked and she uses it on AT&T. I have it configured to use the right AT&T APN and it shows up as 3G but the best I get speed wise is maybe 2.5meg down. Im thinking it needs to be somewhere in the 5-8meg range for at least just 3G/HSPA.
I have the latest LDE installated and its modem and same results (as prior 2.3.6 version, cant remember which modem that was).
I saw Mr.X's thread on different flashable modems, but wanted to see what others have used and got say good 3G/HSPA+ performance on it via say AT&T.
I basically see Tmo UVKL1 being recommended as the best or the Telus KJ3 for dual channel HSPA (maybe thats why im not getting past 2.5meg down).
Thank
Dixit
an att radio would be best for atts network
Wanted to make sure that was possible and not brick this phone. I know the two are fairly similar, but didnt really notice in that other thread any of the Skyrocket modems so thought maybe they are either not compatible or not recommended.

Alright will give it a shot. Right now the T989 using the LDE radio gets me service on AT&T and no real issues with the exception as I said about not getting more than 2.5meg down. I will try that last maintenance leak Skyrocket radio we got on the 2.3.6 and see how that goes.
Thanks
Dixit
Dixit,
What modem did you end up with for the best speeds? I have the t989 and a net10 sim, on ATT, ready to go.
Will a skyrocket modem brick the t989?
Thanks,

Let us know how it goes! I'm curious as to the result because I thought sky rocket radio would at least keep from booting. But the radio might just ignore the lack of lte and btw my Co worker just ran a speed test on 3g with att and got 1.2mps.

Adding my experience here now that I'm on net10 with AT&T:
Tried Tmobile UVLE1 and Telus modems (see Tdj's modem listing thread). Speeds seem to be the same on both. Battery life was better on the Telus modem but a lot of my calls sounded like a modem connection. If I rebooted I could make a call and it would sound fine.
So for now I'm back to UVLE1.
In North Dallas area.

have you tried AT&T radios?
No, I'm afraid to brick. I've not been able find strong references to anyone trying it and living to tell the tail.
I've done a lot of searching on the forums though and the 2.5 to 5 Mbps I'm seeing are consistent with others reports of Att, Straight Talk Att, and Net10 Att speeds. Additionally, I've done many speed tests with my buddy, who is using Att's S2 and the speeds are consistent.
At this point I have to believe an Att radio would do no better.
Hope this helps,
Brandon

[Q] What is the best Radio to use on the Bell network

I am using a Telus T989D on the Bell network. I was wondering what is the best radio to use to get the best signal whether it be for a ICS or GB Build?

only you can answer that question. the best radio is the one that gives YOU the best signals and speed in YOUR area..so no one can answer that question you will have to flash the radios and see which is best for YOU.

Before this question gets answered, I believe that for Bell network you need to have the international version of galaxy s2 - i-9100 in order to use their network. If you have t-mobile version, it works for Telus, Mobilicity, Wind, I believe.
I have a Telus T989D and I'm using modem KJ3 with Darksides UCLD2 BETA2 in the London-Woodstock corridor.
No real issues except north of London where Bell signal sucks and always has.
Being on bell just won't give you the theoretical 42, rather 21 mbps speed....
In theory.

Bell Rogers and Telus use the same HSPA frequences, so both the international and T989D phones can be used on the networks. 850/1900mhz
Mobility Wind and Videotron use european frequencies. 1700mhz

if you're only able to get Edge speeds on the ATT GS3 even after flashing a TMo Radio, then all hardware is not the same....it would mean that the actual radio hardware is different on their respective carriers. If you're still gettin edge speeds on TMo using an ATT S3 then that means the actual hardware doesnt have the required 1700 TMo 3g band...which is what I believe to be the case, if it works and I'm wrong then awesome but until someone confirms 3g speed on the 1700 TMo band then I'm gonna assume each carriers hardware is different...also something to keep in mind, those who flashed the TMo radio on an ATT Galaxy Note have reported bad battery life.

i didn't see a difference in my battery life while i had the note. + it was unstable at times due to the galaxy s2 being a completley different device.
There is a chance the S3 uses a different radio. I unlocked a One X this week & tried to get it to work on T-mobile. It did not pick up the signal . However, there are apparently two versions of the One X one with the 1700mhz band and one without. So it's kind of hit or miss on that device.

I flashed one of the T-Mobile Rom but in my baseband didn't change it is still have AT&T modem stuck in it. I am looking for t-mobile modem to flash over it and see if my data speed is improving. Still looking for t-mobile modem. I will extract t-mobile Rom and try to pull the modem out later today. I'll keep you posted

I had the same problem with a Tablet from China. it only had the 850/1900/2100 band. T-Mobile needs the 1700 mhz band as indicated above and the 2100 MHZ band for 3G. I could only get Edge from the other bands in that modem on that tablet.
So unless the ATT device has the 1700 band, you can not get t-mobile 3G. There are many different modem chips with and without some of these bands.

I believe the hardware allows it to use 1700 mhz but it is now simply a matter of enabling it on the phone. Waiting on OP's results before I make my purchase this weekend and thankful that he is trying it out.
Best of luck from fellow Tmobile customers who are feeling cheated by the phone price!

It has been confirmed that an AT&T GS2 can work on T-Mobile AWS frequencies after replacing the baseband firmware with one from T-Mobile (and ensuring the device is carrier unlocked). I would assume then that doing something similar to an AT&T GS3 should also allow it to function on T-Mobile 3G or HSPA frequencies.
The hardware between the two devices are similar except that the SOC utilized on the T-Mo variant precludes LTE. Otherwise, the modems are functionally the same.
Doesn't work for the time being, i got unkown signal and phone refused to connect to network. Enabling it to work would require more than a flash of the modem.
More than likely the ATT device does not have 1700 band.
I need someone to crack this quick, it will influence whether i return the phone. Thanks for trying.

Won't work hardware not supported.
What do u base that on? The modem not working? That doesn't mean the hardware is not included. At&t's software could be programed to reject t mobile band modems.
Check this out, they're working on cross carrier compatible roms. These none at&t/touch wiz roms will eventually confirm whether it can be done.

I think the 1700 band is hidden really well if it's even there, so as of right now the hardware for the radio is not supported. Modems don't falsh over but Roms do, i am running a T-mobile rom right now on my i747. I tried flashing the modem and my phone wouldn't recognize any signal.
I dont know man. This chip was designed to be the mother of all frequencies. Then i hear the t mobile version may have a differnt chip and t mobile sayin they have no lte hardware.

Ok, so yesterday i bought a SG3 from Telus(Im from New-Brunswick Canada, so its Telus, Bell or Rogers)... but the thing is i dont know if the kernels/recovery and roms in this section works for that model of SG3, its a SGH-I747M.... so i was wondering, if anyone knows about the hardware? Is it similar to the one from AT&T, Verizon etc? can i use the same roots/recovery/kernels etc? Thanks

Thanks you! so that means i can use all the firmware stuff the AT&T phone uses right?
It should work. I haven't flashed any custom roms yet, but rooting works with the ODIN/CWM/Root method. I don't believe we can use the no-flash counter method since ODIN should refuse to flash that firmware to our devices (based on previous experience with the S2 LTE/Skyrocket).
I just flashed a AT&T rom, it works fine, except it says at&t everywhere -.- now im looking for a more "universal" rom or something that isnt carrier related

TMO rom /w LTE support

I'm in a real pickle. I have a AT&T (I747) S3 that's capable of LTE. I've flashed several T-mobile rom's on it and everything seems to work except I don't get an option to choose LTE in the Mobile Networks. I assume this is because T999 did not have LTE but T999L did.
Are there any roms that are touchwiz (I need wifi calling) and also support LTE?
Thanks folks!
Um... Why haven't you tried at&t ROMs if you don't have a t999* device anyway?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
Because AT&T roms don't have Wifi-Calling feature. I should have clarified T-Mobile is my carrier.
I was able to figure this out. I downloaded this 4.3 Stock deoxed ROM for T999L and I was able to get everything working. Now onto theming it like an S5. Unfortunately majority of the custom roms out are for the T999 and don't support LTE. http://click.xda-developers.com/api/click?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_14033932361886&key=f0a7f91912ae2b52e0700f73990eb321&libId=e2cc1c90-f9dd-49fc-b098-d6b1401acb32&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D2561670%26page%3D7&v=1&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.androidfilehost.com%2F%3Ffid%3D23252070760975307&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D2561670%26page%3D8&title=4.3%20Update%20for%20T999L%20now%20live%20-%20Page%207%20-%20xda-developers&txt=%3Cfont%20color%3D%22Blue%22%3ET999L_4.3_UVUBMK4_deodexed_KnoxFREE.zip%3C%2Ffont%3E

I still can't seem to get LTE on this AT&T S3 (/w AWS enabled). In the same area I'm able to pickup LTE on another AT&T S4 (/w AWS enabled). I'm able to pick up Edge and HSPA+ on both.
UPDATE: I was able to connect to LTE but I had to force the phone to use LTE Band 4 using *#BAND#. I was not able to make any calls at this point since it was the modem was running LTE only.
I then moved the modem to Automatic and the LTE remained and I was able to make some calls but on ending them, it went straight to Edge instead of HSPA+ or LTE.
The switch over between Edge to HSPA+ / LTE doesn't seem as smooth as the S4 and sometimes it just doesn't switch and sticks to Edge.
Ideas?
People have been trying to do this for a while and it is something I believe just isnt going to work. The I747 was built to use a specific set of frequencies on AT&T networks. T-Mobile uses different frequencies/bands and the I747 simply cannot make proper use of them. There's threads in AT&T forums about this. You should check them out.
I used an I747 before with T999 ROMs and had no problems connecting to LTE once I used the correct APN, can you please state what APN you are using?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Ok, I have realized that this is an error caused by the AWS patch going away when I reboot. I thought this wasn't supposed to happen with I747 and only with i747M's but it seems like it's happening to my unit.
Once I have the AWS patch on, it goes quickly from E - > 4G (HSPA+ - > LTE (when available). When the HSPA+ is only available, it has a much harder time moving from E-> LTE directly.
