Radios thread for Xoom - Xoom Android Development

Hi there.
At least the ICS OTA for Motorola Xoom 3G MZ601 (Everest) includes a new radio (baseband), N_01.100.07P.
The only way to update this baseband from an old one is to back to stock and that means spend a lot of time. In addition, some countries like UK have problems with the official OTA because is not avaiable to everybody.
Others devices have an easy and fast way to update the radio, and I think that we can find some way to do it.
At the moment, we only thing I know is that we can use dd or http://sbf.droid-developers.org/everest/list.php
I made this separate thread to make easier to work about it and to don't mix with the EOS JB Nightlies thread.
If you want to try the long way to update the radio, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30076801&postcount=742
Also I think it's a good idea to expand the idea to other Xoom models and make easier to update the radio.

I hope someone succeds in extracting the baseband since I wouldn't like to go back to stock just for the radio.
Does the new baseband give benefits? I read in the MZ601 EOS thread that some people didn't find any difference

Main differences are related to deep sleep, that sometimes don't work properly...
Now I'm in stock waiting to root as soon as I get the update message, because the update is downloaded to /cache that is not accesible without root...

Hi are you able to get the update?
L.

Not all roms for 601 are updated to ics
I tried the german and everything wend fast and easy. I didn't even need to ask for the update it was automatic. Then because I forgot to do a backup of ics and flushed eos jb I did it again with the universal euro rom which stopped in 3.2 and no more update to ics so I had to bo it for a third time with the german rom and everything went smooth again. So if you want stock ics and/or baseband 07 start from the german rom. Just a little problem there are no english for the first couple of updates but then english appears again in 3.2. Just use google translator like me to know which button to press if you don't speak any german. Now I running stock ics root with the universal root method and I am very happy. Sleep works great, there is some lagginess occasionaly but I can't say eos was much better.

Maybe you could get the files using "adb shell" in fastboot mode??!

First I've tried to go back to stock Honeycomb (3.0) and update the tablet via OTA.
Unfortunally after the first 3 update get stuck to Honeycomb. No update available. So I've flashed Movistar ICS ROM (sbf) using RSD Lite.
then I've restored TWRP recovery and my CNA 3.3.0 nandroid backup.

I don't think so, because without root, the permissions don't allow to access /cache, but I'll try.

Nice....
One question though...
I have franco kernel and different radio flashed on my GN, so if I would recover this image would I get stock kernel and radio which is stated in post?
YES
Hey thanks,
is it gonna get OTAs?
yes but i think you will have to lock bootloader tho for official updates,,,fastboot oem lock
Is this the official updated with the GSM fix or something else?
image files from google source its the official one
thanks for posting this. the CMW backup includes a radio image? what version of CWM is included? i was under the impression that CWM DOES NOT backup radio images. i already have the same radio and prefer not to flash it again. thanks.
Thanks it will be really useful!

You shouldn't have to re-lock the bootloader for OTAs.

I got OTA update with root & unlocked bootloader, but it failed to apply because of some asserts in the script that checked MD5 hash of certain files incl build.prop, and I'd made some tweaks. So YES to OTA.
The best ROM around here so far !!!!!!!!

I'm reseting it right now to see (dalvik, wipe and cache.)

Partitioning difference between bootloader la03 and lc03

It seems it is not possible to get _exactly_ stock jellybean without applying the OTA update from IMM30D.
The new bootloader (LC03) seems to have a different partition table than the old one (LA03).
The phone won't boot if I flash LC03 on top of the Koush jb-takju.zip Jellybean update, and CWM can't mount the /data partition.
My guess is future OTA updates won't work running the "stockiest" Jellybean I can manage going from a takju device (LA03/XXLF1/JRN84D)
Anyone have any suggestions?
I did it by copying new boot loader, radio and the JB zip to SD card. Pushed cwm via fast boot, went into cwm and cleared out all the data and caches. Flashed new boot loader, then new radio and finally the ROM zip. Rebooted and I had the full works.
The key was to do them in one go without reboot. There was a guide on here somewhere that I followed.

How different is the partition table? Any idea why?
It obviously works without the new bootloader but I can see the concern.
Is the userdata partition jolted around at all?
Will a nandroid restore of data work properly from the old table to the new one ?
I figure I'll just wait until an official release is available entirely in fastboot format, then make the necessary changes.

Although I haven't verified it yet, I don't think there is any difference in partitioning. (I think the OP was having other issues.) Users with the LC03 bootloader AND with earlier bootloaders have had no issues. When I get around to it, I'll pull off the partition sizes with the LC03 bootloader and compare them to the sizes of the LA03 bootloader (as seen here).

Short answer, yes
Long answer, do the research. Learn what you're doing. Open an OTA and have a look inside
And read my signature regarding DMs...
I tried installing a 4.4.4 ota from Verizon and it fails. Does it need stock recovery? I have clockwork on there currently

Yes. Also, if there is a 4.4.3 OTA for Verizon, you need to install that first before going to 4.4.4.
yes you need the stock recovery. I am having the same issue, although I have CM11 and TWRP and I can not seem to find the telus nandoid or recovery for 3.16

Failed how? Did it give you an error message about the phone being modified?
You need to be on the stock ROM (no system files altered by root) in order to OTA.
I didn't have to replace any hardware. I guess it was more of a soft brick cause it would show splash screen and then freeze.
Well if I install a 4.4.4 Rom from the forums instead of ota Verizon will it have hboot files included?

Nope. Hboot is not included in a ROM.
But it would be included in a firmware package (s-off required to flash).
I do have s off but when I go to flash an hboot update 3.19.0.00 it starts then says installation aborted in CWM! What gives?
Have a thread for HTC One M8 Verizon HBoot downloads that will flash in Clockwork? Maybe my file is corrupt.
You don't flash FW via CWM, you flash it through fastboot. Have you actually read anything?
Well I have read a ton on this I just don't know my terminology that well. I have been trying to flash hboot.zip which i read can be flashed in cw and it fails. I have also tried fastboot install with platform tools/RUU as well and can't get it. I'll try again tonight and report back. Just trying to learn a little here sorry if I'm not up to your standards EddyOS haha.
Well if you can't even spell my name right there's no hope...If you don't get the terminology then don't even start until you do! I didn't do anything until I learnt what I was doing and how to revert the changes I was making before I first rooted my Desire back in 2010 (and it was a lot more technical back then too!)
Okay bud thanks for that! I was only kidding, learn by doing.

Please help
Hey there Just decided to share my experience. I have a D5503 and I flashed the 14.5.A.0.242 firmware. After this I decided to try to root the device, but since I had no TWRP or Clockwork it seems impossible to root. I lost my bootloader unlock too and no tool or method seems to be able to unlock it. I tried the official sony method, tried from flashtool and other similar programs but nothing seems to work (from cmd it comes up with and error message, some kind like "failed, cannot complete command or smth"). And yes,I've checked and my phone's bootloader CAN be unlocked. Any ideas what must be causing that or I just have to wait for a proper tool/method for root/BL unlocker ?

Hi, @mahdi72. It usually takes one to two weeks after the initial release for the TAR file to be available. I grab it off of SAMMOBILE or Samsung-Firmware and then upload it to Android File Host, which is much faster.
If you find it before me, let me know and I'll make it available for the developers and community.
Hurrah I am installing now! 10ish days before the S8 comes out. I will enjoy these last 10 days with my S6. Hopefully this update will magically improve a 2 year old battery.

What were you trying to do? Were you trying to make an Odin-flashable TAR file from your OTA? It doesn't work that way.
Restore your phone to stock, take the OTA that way. An OTA needs you to be running stock and stock recovery. That will get you to Nougat. You should be able to root then.
The TAR file will be available in one to two weeks. You should be aware that the TAR files are generally 1.7 GB, larger than the OTA.
Ohhhh!!

Like other guys said, you can't update straight to Nougat from big daddy's until the tar file is released, but if you can't wait, then do the following:
Find Koop's thread and install the latest available stock thru Odin. Then update to Nougat thru system update like everyone on stock. Then you can reroot (there's a thread for that too).
Normally this process does not wipe data or media, but of course you need to backup everything just in case. And you might find you need to wipe data anyway for some system stuff to work right. Especially if you installed big daddy's Grace UX stuff. That has some funky system apps from other devices.
I'm about to go thru this exact process, so wish me luck.
(Sorry for not providing links to those threads, but I'm on mobile. They're not hard to find anyway.)
