My Incredible 2 is S-off and rooted using the Revolutionary Method. Once the ICS stock RUU is release can I do the following?
1) Update the the stock ICS RUU?
2) If I am at stock ICS RUU, can I re-root again because I have S-off? If so, how?
a) I understand that when I install the stock ROM, the ClockWorkMod will be removed/replaced. how would I re-install the ClockWorkMod so I can re-root again?

1. Yes
2. Yes, flash the recovery image with fastboot, instructions are in the thread. After you have the recovery, you can flash an su zip to root it.

Or option 2. Wait until one of our awesome devs makes a regular rom out of it. This would be my preferred method.

Whatever recovery you want to use. 4ext and cwm both have instructions for a fastboot flash I think, but twrp needs root to use the installer and you need to jump through hoops to find the recovery image for it. As for the su zip, I use chainfire's supersu zip, just search for his thread on it.

I would use CWM.
What is the advantage of chainfire's superuser zip file over the one that's posted on the "Revolutionary" site?

Nothing really, supersu is supposed to be better than superuser, but tbh I just like it because the notification text sounds cooler

Superuser app is attached to message, flash it via recovery. When you boot your phone you will see it in app drawer.

Yes it is, and I think it has the latest su binary.
What can I do besides gain root with this status? Down to the technical details if you will. Thanks!
I think I found the answer. Please verify. Apparently I can root and install custom ROMs that use the stock kernel. Right?
You can flash any ROM, kernel, or recovery. What you cannot flash are the radios, Hboots, or splash screens.
Hmmm. Ok.

And I can't find a rooting tutorial for the evo design. Is it safe to unlock the bootloader and then flash the su package once I get the custom recovery on?

This isn't the design forum, there isn't a forum for the design on xda, its a different device from the evo4g so we can't answer your questions other than a guess. I would say once you have recovery there should be no issue flashing SuperUser and the SU binaries for SuperUser

Hi,
I know that my question is so noob, but I still wanna ask.
I have an Incredible 2, running 2.3.4 (Stock room with many Verizon apps ), have HBOOT 0.98, but when I check in my bootloader, I saw it already have S-OFF.
So, I want to ask Is there anyway to root or install Clockwork mode recovery, without downgrade it to 0.97

You can flash TWRP instead of CWM. I just had to flash a stock rom through fastboot and I was able to install TWRP with no issues without CWM. I was already S-off though so it could create a different set of circumstances for you.

You can just flash it directly, but I don't think we have CWM Touch for our phone yet. At least not on the official CWM site. Or are you referring to 4EXT recovery?

I flashed 4extrecovery with s-on and it worked. I had alot of problems getting mine to downgrade if you got a model 6.01.605.05 good luck if you do I found a way to get recovery superuser and a custom rom installed on it but the downgrade didn't work for me and I have seen others with that model with same problem.
My girl just got this phone from Verizon and it came on 2.3.4. Not really sure how to go about rooting it. Only found a guide for 2.3.3.

Check your software version in hboot first. There are a lot of problems with newer models of the Inc2 and rooting.
How do I even get into hboot? The normal ways didn't seem to work for me.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Turn off the phone and hold volume down and power at the same time. If that does not work pull the battery out for a few seconds and put it back in and try again. When I first got mine I had to pull the battery at first before I could get into it.
im trying to do this to, so not hijacking the thread..
im at hboot .98 and have tried to download the kit in the downgrade thread, but it resets the connection at the end and never finishes.
ive read about htcdev tool to unlock bootloader, but there is no straight up guide besides the attn1 thread which is useless with that vwhk kit.

If it's software 6, it would be better if you used HTC dev unlock because downgrading software 6 is pretty difficult unless you're familiar with ADB shell.
If it's software 5, then using the downgrade tutorial would suffice and then revolutionary process, etc.
Sent from my vivow using XDA
It's possible to root and s-off with software 6, but it's complicated and can cause bugs and instability. There's really nothing you'd want to do that you can't with just using htcdev unlock, the downside is it voids your warranty.

Thata why I stated that you shouldn't try to S-Off and downgrade software 6 unless you are knowledgeable with ADB shell. This is because the entire process requires ADB shell usage.

Ok I just used condemnedsoul's pg32img to revert back to stock. I thought I was going to have to return my phone to Verizon but found out I don't have to. Now I've lost root. How can I regain root and is there a way to do it w/o connecting to a pc? I'm on 2.3.4 gb sense 2.1. I'm still s-off.

Sure you can do it without a computer as long as you use 4ext for your recovery. Since you have s- off you just need a recovery to flash and Su for root. Use the app to get the free version of the recovery. The app will flash the .IMG file. Then once you have your recovery
Just download su and flash in recovery. Here is a drop box link to the su zip file to flash.
http://db.tt/GzpXFmUz
Here is the recovery updater app
http://db.tt/2sN1gD5h
Or rom manager app will also install recovery i believe and you can also use that to flash su for root.
