A good post to check: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26000212
In addition I would check whether the bootloader is "locked", "relocked" or "unlocked". You would want it to be "locked" for warranty purposes. (to check... From your home screen hold power button and volume down button simultaneously until it reboots). At the top you should see whether it's "locked"

[Q] Rooting without volume buttons

Is there any way to root HTC Desire HD with Advanced ACE Hack Kit without using volume buttons?
My volume up button is not working, and I need it to downgrade from 2.3.5, it's required in final step for confirmation, but i can't do that..
The only way is if you use sonething like clockworkmod or rzr recovery

As gmaster said, there is "yes" [volume up] and "no" [volume down] option, so I can't scroll..

3 dot menu ICS option...

Hi all, I've done a number of searches and can't remember if I've made this up in my head. But do I remember correctly reading that HTC were planning an update to include and option to disable the 3 dot menu for non ICS optimised apps?
Thanks

I don't know if they are. I read that someone had looked into the latest update and had seen some coding suggesting that HTC are. If someone can let us know that'd be great as the button annoys me.

You can simply root your phone, get the CWM and get this fix from the developers here on XDA.

This will remove your 3dot menu bar and simply assign the menu when you long press home or recent apps button.
I was hoping to avoid root for a while unless an alternative to htc-dev was found.

I've read somewhere that an exploit has been found but so far no root method without unlocking your bootloader has been posted.

Guess what? None of those questions have ever been asked before!
Oh, actually, I think they might have been. There's a search function on this forum.
No
Hold power button
Htcdev.com
Developer options
The sd card is a virtual sd card carnt be removed and if you hold power and volume button it will emulate a battery pull
