Great advice, I found this before I got mine and it really helped. Wish S voice wasn't so terrible.
It worked, thank you.

Its not horrible....it is just that the phone needs to see if your gonna double tap or not....which in this case it waits an extra millisecond to function home...

Does the Google Now work on the Note 2?
Do the cards show up as they do on the Nexus? What about vocal queries using Google Now?
Do they work the same way?
I presume Google Now is a big improvement over SVoice.

It works. No need to worry I am using it
It works well, my only gripe is getting it to come up with double clicking the home button.
I know that pressing and holding the settings button brings it up too, but it also activates the keyboard. Kinda annoying.
If your on a home screen just tap a search widget or long press menu to get it up.

You can long press the Home button and goes into the Task Manager, at the bottom of the screen you will see 3 buttons, and click on the Google button(between the task manager and remove all dustbin logo) to go into google now.:cyclops:
Long press the Menu button.
Or use the Google search bar widget

Has anyone figured out a 1 step process to get the voice action ready to listen? Like siri i guess lol.
Ive been trying to make my home button function the same as the power button. First I made a nandroid and rebooted andthen went here--> System/usr/keylayout/generic.kl and changedkey# whatever-said-home to say POWER. rebooted and it didn't work, it worked just like normal. Then I went back and changed every key that said home to power anywhere in the keylayout directories and still, it works like normal! Any advice or knowledge to help me solve this puzzle?
Thanks!

I'm on an aokp build BTW and I tried the button remapping app as well. Stubborn button =
Sent from my Kangadore 64
Well for starters, did you reboot?
There should be a thread in one of the US variants forums that tells you about the key layouts.
Theres also an app that will give you info on what button you just pushed.
Been a while so cant remember the name and dont know if itll be compatible, but maybe someone else does and will chime in.

I've rebooted with every change. I tried theapp that tells you what button you pushed but it doesn't show what the power or home buttons key in as, its in the FAQ of the app I don't know what the issue is, I can change other buttons around but this one refuses to cooperate.

You have to edit the sec-keys.kl file to whatever you want then reboot. Generic.kl only takes effect if sec-keys.kl isn't there. So edit sec-keys.kl then reboot and you should be golden

@OP....
Got a better idea. Download apex launcher, and download screen off and lock.....
Open apex settings, behavior settings, home button...
Have it launch screen off and lock when pressed. Your phone will now turn off when you press the home button from your home screen.

all they did was change what function the home button does. Look at a few posts up to see the file they changed and it's quite self explanatory, you will see a list of four buttons and their default assignments. Then you can either disable one by putting a # in front of the entire line or change them to say make the home function as a camera button.

No problem. Let us know if you run into any issues!
Sometimes when I am typing on the stock keyboard, I must have hit some key that makes it going into one handed mode. The trouble is, I don't know what I hit by accident, and the only way to bring it back into two handed mode is to go into settings and uncheck one handed mode. Is there a way to do that directly on the keyboard? Or better yet, disable that one handed mode permanently? I don't really care about that mode. Thanks for your tip!
Sent from Note II
Menu>Settings>One-handed operation
Then uncheck any and all unwanted options.
Thanks. What I am asking is how to prevent the keyboard from going into that mode while I am typing. It's really annoying.

OK, I don't use the Samsung keyboard, but I just tried it and was able to figure out that a pinch-to-zoom action will zoom get you in and out of one-handed mode. Try with your thumbs, touch both fingers at the same time.
Hope that helps.
PS. you must type fast.
Mine has done this too.

I hope someone can help me out with this (I guess most of my posts arent worth bothering with as they usually go untouched by anyone). I'm trying to figure out a way to disable the touch button backlight on a Google Edition ROM. I have been searching for an answer since the Google Edition hit. All I can ever find is how to disable on GSIII ROMs (non ge). If anyone can please help me out I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!

Screen Filter is an app that can disable the backlight of the softkeys. Set it to auto-start at boot and you should be good. I know its not a direct fix but its a low impact app that shouldnt effect battery life or operation.

Seems to work for me. Did it dim the screen at all (thats its main function)? Did you see the check box "enable softkey back light" (uncheck it) at the bottom of the app ui?

Yes, it did dim the screen, but if i uncheck the enable softkey back light, anytime I touch the screen the backlights still come on. Are you on a G.E. rom? I am currently on Infamouse G.E.

No im not. I am on AOSP (Slim Bean) though.
There are options to do this in AOKP and CM roms. Anybody know how those builds pull it off?

SWEEET!!! Works like a charm thanks dude! Like I said, I've been searching for this forever! I know that many others have been searching for this, perhaps you should make a thread in the mods section.

Go HERE i fixed the boot issue. I was way too tired last night xD missed something really simple lol
Not sure if someone else already posted but I figured I would share what I found. YMMV
If you're experiencing a delay in response when hitting the multitasking(recent) capacitive button (the one that's to the left of your home button) I may have found a way to speed it up.
In settings > accessibility > dexterity and interaction > touch and hold delay
Change it to custom. When you customize it take your finger off as soon as it turns green. Faster is better.
It seems to have done the trick for me. Let me know if works for you.

I think you guys are experiencing the placebo effect, this setting has nothing to do with a regular press. I've timed it on a few different Note 4s and it does not increase the speed.

I've also experimented with changing the delay between custom, 0.5, and 1.5 seconds. It doesn't change the multitask window delay for me.

Hmm. I wonder if it has anything to do with the launcher that is used. I'm using Nova.
Maybe others who are not experiencing the speed improvement are on a different launcher?
I have no idea why it worked for me and not everyone.

placebo or not, it seemed to work for me. thanks!
I'm really not sure what lag there was to begin with when pressing the recent apps key.
Disable the TalkBack service from Application manager, and it will be fast as 0.5 seconds.
The setting didn't change multi task button at all.
I know others have said this but I started typing this before I realized there were so many others saying the same thing.
