[Q]: Is there a way to format this SDcard?
[Q]: is there a way to change the setttings whereas pics, music ,etc, can be directly sent to the SDcard?
[Q]: how do i access the SDcard when it wont let me into the card or it shows it is unavailable?
Try to format the card in pc using an incompatible format like ntfs and then put it in the phone and then the phone should ask you if you want to format the card. If not try to go to settings and format manually.

dude. just format the sdcard using your pc in FAT16 format. you can also try fat32 but I don't know how it plays with android.
cheers!
PS: after you format it using the above method, it's good to take the sdcard out from your phone and then put it back. just to be on the safe side

well...tried FAT16 and no luck?
im getting very frustrated at the thought of a phone that doesnt even see a simple SDcard when my PC does?
Well it might be some hardware issue. The phone does not recognize that sd card is in right? Does the phone show something when you plug in the card while the phone is on?
Did you try to put in other card?

nothing shows up when putting the card into the phone while it is on, but it does state SDCARD REMOVED when pulling it out from the phone
May be the SD card have some defect. Insert some other SD card and see if the phone nose it out.

ill probably end up doing that and just buy a new sdcard but i have a feeling itll do he same thing seeing as my PC sees it just fine and my last phone used it without a glitch. Now formatting this card for this phone, ive lost 1gb of photos!
Well I just did a small test. I have formatted a spare SD card with NTFS(I used MiniTool Partition Wizard for that) and put it in the phone. It told me that the SD card is blank and not properly formatted and asked if I want to format the card.
So this is something that your phone should do too. So my conclusion is that there must be either something wrong with the card or with the phone. So hurry to try a different SD card and if it doesn't work you should ask for replacement device.

thanks everyone so very much for all your help!!!
i called Future Shop (where i purchased my device) and explained everything including your guys help to them, and they said it sounds like the devices card reader is defective. So...seeing as i just got this on Friday last week, i can exchange it for a new device at no cost.
:good:
just got back in from future shop....
seems it was the sdcard that was defective but...
after coming home, i reformatted the old sdcard back to ntfs and dropped a pic on it from my PC and it still works?? lol
for some odd reason the device just didnt see the card? maybe cuz it was generic? maybe cuz it was only 1gb? i dunno??
however...got me a new 8gb sdcard for 14.00, thatll do me just fine!!
again, thanks for all the help

Hi guys,
I have a 32g class 10 sd card I bought to use instead of my 16gb class 2 but I have been facing quite some issues in the last couple of weeks
I took the 32g, put it in my win7 PC, formatted it to FAT32, safely removed it and now the arc doesnt recognize it... I just wanted to format it via the settings-> storage -> erase card in order to make sure everything is all peaches and cream before loading 20+gig of music in it.
...
All I want to do is finally transfer all my music (24ish gig) to the new 32g , and back up all my apps and stuff via Titanium Back Up pro.
Simply said, I want to have my 16g card data in my 32g one , with all my beat
Please could someone share some tips or links, I'll do homeworks and have been, but I have been facing so many complications since the last few weeks
Thanks in advance
Does your phone recognize another card properly?
Did you apply a volume name when formatting the 32GB card?
Did you try the 32GB card in the phone before formatting it?
I've done pretty much the same as you with a 32GB card (Kingston Class 4) and had no problem.
Are you sure the 32GB card is good and not a counterfeit?
Try formatting it again to with FAT32, default parameters, short or no volume name. Try copying your files to the card on the PC to see if it actual works.

Thanks I did put a volume name. That might explain it.
Yes the card already worked ( plenty of times ). I have been trying numerous time to transfert the music ( takes forever to transfer 20gig to an SD card , even class 10... ), and had mixed results that always ended up failing ( most of the times because of me... like forgeting to safely remove the sd card from my laptop made the card unrecognizable by the phone afterward...of course I just finished to tranfers the 20gig and was too happy to safely remove it... )
I will try that right now. thanks again
*EDIT*
Bah still same problem I must be doing stupid... SD card is not recognized by the phone. In the settings menu ( storage ) I cannot mount or unmount it and thus format it via the phone itself
That even after reformating it to default FAT32 partition with no volume name using MiniTool Partition Wizard Home
So number 1 priority is getting the SD card to be recognized again by the phone
**EDIT2**
When browsing the card with astro it says problem creating external cache , with root explorer it only says directory is empty. Still can't do anything in the settings menu
Obvious statement, but did you set it to primary?

Or format it wrong, Arc will say it's damaged and say that it has to format it to detect it.
Should fix it, too.

Ya I'd love to get to this point ( which I got in the past hehe ) but at the moment it's still not even recognizing the sd card anymore
still formating btw....
How did you recover your issue?
I think I have a similar SD card problem. But, I encountered it after I did factory reset with SD card erase option selected. I didn't do anything after all. When I connect to PC, on the phone upper bar, there is no notification regarding USB. The middle button seems not working either.
Try formatting the card with this Panasonic SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card formatter.
That's strange why not just do a quick format in Win7 or WinXP, to FAT32? I use a 32GB as well and Arc has no issue with it. Coming from the 8GB, here's what I did.
1. Take off the 8GB from the Arc and placed in a USB reader.
2. Copy off all the files to your PC. I used WinRAR to accomplish this, just archive everything and STORE it (no need to compress so operation is faster). Or you can just use drag and drop plain copying its all the same.
3. Analyze the copied files and remove all unneeded bloats (ie. old movies u don't intend to watch anymore, clear out useless temp files, etc)
4. Copy back the files on your new FAT32 formatted card using the USB reader, then put in your Arc.
If you notice, the entire data migration is done via card reader/USB. Using the Arc as such will slowdown your progress and introduces unnecessary delays.
You can also use usb tool, it basicaly creates a back up image and can be restored to the new sd

Hi I'm pretty sure this won't be an extremely popular topic but just wondering how people go about formatting there sd cards do u just wipe everything save ur backups? Ur photos music? Anything and also is there anything important I shouldn't delete?? Just curious to see how everyone else does it thanx for being nice

Well, you can use your phone to format it by going into settings and storage. You should back up anything you dont want to lose to your pc. I find that the most effective way is to connect the sd card to the pc either in your phone via usb or via a card reader. Then go to my computer, right click on it and hit format. It thould already be in the right file format(fat32) if im not mistaken. Then just place your pics and whatever else back on there and the android system will do the rest. Hope i helped!

If you are working with a removable SD card I'd recommend HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8. (free)
I had an 8 Gb card sitting around for a while and I wanted to use in my daughter's new phone. I put the card in the PC and deleted everything. Then I thought just format the damn thing. It seemed to only think it had 40 Mb. Windows would not format it to anything over 40 Mb. I had to download the HP tool and it would allow formatting to the full 8 Gb.
Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place.. I just installed coredroid 1.2 and my sd card is not detected. Removed the sd card. Complete format then reinsert still doesnt solve the problem. I am able to use the card using a card reader. Any suggestions

It sounds like you are formatting an existing (previously used) card? Do you have some issue with the card? Or just switching between devices? Can't see it making much difference using the built-in Windows disk management tool to format, using the phone to do it, or some other method.
I think even switching between devices, I haven't bothered to re-format, just deleted the files manually and swapped the card into the new phone.
For new cards, I don't even bother to format. They are always pre-formatted to FAT32, AFAIK. So I just insert it in the device and go . . .

if you have just one partition formated with fat32 on your sd-card, you can format it with windows-tools. if there is another partition (ext2/3/4) on your card, its not possible to format the sd-card completely with this tools and you need, as written above, an external tool like that from HP.
Beside this, i don't really understand why you want to do this, except you have a problem with your card...
i wiped my sd card with h.d.d low level format ! now i cant create right ext partition now . how can i do that ? i did everything with partition magic software . but not use .
If you have a Linux box and an SD card read use gparted. If you don't the best/fastest way is with a good recovery in an android phone

When i insert my 8 gb sandisk class 4 SDHC card,

Try formatting the card through a PC first, choosing FAT32 and deselecting the "fast format" option. Let it run (might take 15min or more) and then put the card in your phone. See if this way it works.

I already tried that, thanks for the fast reply anyway
I tried about everything i could find using google and this site's search function, but it all failed.
It sucks because you need a sd card for so many things on an android phone, even thoug it has 1.5 GB built in memory.
Is it a new card? If so, its already formatted FAT32, and should work out of the box. If its still asking you to format, even after formatting on PC, and format on the phone doesn't work, the card may be defective or damaged.

New card, new phone. Thanks
I'm betting something is wrong with the card. That is not a normal message to get with a brand new SD card. Try a different one, if you have access to one, or excahnge the one you've got.
No luck

OK, so i've tried 2 diffirent 8gb sdhc cards and 1 regular 2gb sd card.
still no luck.
the same problem keeps occuring :s
I tried formatting the cards in every possible way, even trough adb with the card inside the phone, no luck.
I think i'm about to sell the phone on ebay
you can just buy the sd card tray on ebay for about 12 bucks, easy to replace
Just format it on your computer instead (micro SD card reader or whatever).
I had this problem using IC9 beta, wouldn't format my card.
I used my PC and it was fine...
Been working fine for over a month now all of a sudden the SD card appears to be randomly mounting/unmounting itself and has become unreadable on my phone.
I've put the SD card in my PC and it works fine so I suspect my phone has developed a fault. I hope I don't have to get an exchange as it's otherwise faultless and I'm dreading getting a unit that can't be S-Off'd
I haven't modified or installed anything prior to the fault developing,
Any tips would be most welcome.
PS It's a genuine Transcend Premium 300x 64GB bought from MyMemory.

well, a simple solution is to enter recovery and see if the sdcard works there if this way it works, change the rom/perform factory reset, if this doesn't, well, you might try to flash everything again, but i's possible that the sd slot is broken...
i wish you all the luck, let me know
I would copy EVERYTHING off the card to a PC and do a format and try a different file system. I would has perform the format on the phone, to make sure its gets formatted to the correct file systems.
Long story short, It sounds like you memory card is starting to get Corrupted. I have to SanDisk cards that started doing that in the biginning and ended up not being read at all on PC nor the Phone.
Also while its doing that, youll also notice the battery start to drain more, at leasst thats what happended on my Note 3 when I had the san disk cards going corrupt.
Ended up buying new Card and now everything is fine.
I doubt is the card reader built in phone, more then likely its your memory card going corrupt.

I agree most likely the card. I'd download an sd card format tool and do a full format, don't use Windows format then do full check for bad sectors. I had a similar problem and it was the card at fault, but strangely worked ok on the pc.

Thanks for all the advice.
I could read the card in recovery but it failed to format there.
I tried to format in windows but my only options were NTFS or exFAT, no FAT32. But this failed anyway also.
Downloaded a SD format application but this said the card was write protected and to move the lock switch, obviously MicroSD has no switch like standard SD.
So next I deleted all the files on the card and ran h2testw test. This failed and reported card is probably faulty.
Then I checked the contents of the card again and all the original files were back again, so it's definitely 'Donald Ducked'. I was able to get all my files backed up and fortunately I had my photos already thanks to Dropbox & G+.
So I will now look at getting MyMemory to replace it but my fear is they will want me to return the faulty card but it has sensitive information on it that I can't delete. Any ideas on how I can wipe it?

How did you attach the card to the pc? Try a usb card reader and then try again. If still problems download mini partition tool (Google) and delete the partition. You can then wipe it properly.
I reformatted the SD card from the settings within the phone and since then it been working fine :\
make sure you're using 2.0USB also..
when i connect my phone to charger
Its been few days i am noticing when i conmect my phone to charger it says 'sd card removed unexpectedly or either it suddenly stops showing content from my phone, then i have to go to settings unmount/mount the sd card frkm storage option and then it shows the content even when charging, or sometjmes it doesn'fshow option for that so on that case i have to restart my phone. What could be the possible reason and solution to that. It was fine on 4.4.4 now i am on 5.0.2 all stock htc one m8 h/k edition with sim unlock and s-off via sunshine.
Hi. Picked up this phone a week ago. I love it. I put a sd card in from another phone. I got it in and it sees it but I cannot read it or format it. Does it have to be a certain sd card to work?
Download file Commander and format sd card, if it won't do it, connect the SD to the PC and format it on NTFS:highfive:

You need to complete that step from the notification menu.

Hi
So try to format it as FAT32
I do get a notification but everytime I use it, it crashes. I tried the FAT32 format but still get the same results. I am trying this with two different sd cards which work fine in my old phone and laptop. I think it's the phone. Some googling resulted in Xperia phones not being able to read sd cards properly.

Ok so I have an idea, have you been on an airport or over a metal detector? If yes, it means that your SD card or phone got demagnetized (happened also to me with old phone), so buy a Sony SD card that resist to them :good:
