Can we get the TouchWiz calendar on the Nexus? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've currently got the Nexus but it's extremely difficult for me to get any work done with this calendar. I need the TouchWiz calendar that admittedly looks ugly but has much improved functionality.
I've even thought about selling my brand new Nexus just to go to the Galaxy S3 so I can have the TouchWiz calendar.
Any ideas?

Nexus.... expecting too much?

Maybe, I was expecting too much... with the galaxy nexus, coming from a Galaxy S2.
At times i feel that the S2 is much quicker and just as smooth..
Is it me or have other users noticed this as well?
Don't get me wrong it is fast and all, maybe for someone coming from a slower device..
But coming from the S2 which is still a great great phone, it doesn't seem faster but a times slower loading apps

the galaxy nexus was never intended to be an upgrade from the Galaxy S2. It was supposed to be the upgrade for those that had a Nexus S.
The product upgrade cycle goes
Nexus S -> Galaxy Nexus-> next nexus
Galaxy S -> Galaxy S2 -> Galaxy S3
So habs I'm kinda stuck here and maybe you can tell me I can return my s2 and exchange it for the nexus. I want to know do you miss your s2 or are you happier with the nexus, and is the screen on the nexus worth the upgrade ?

I only played with one for about 10 minutes, but it felt about the same. I've used the GS2 for the past few months and love it, but the Nexus feels the same, just with improvements because of ICS and less running in the background (TouchWiz and Samsung apps...yuck).
All the apps I opened and played with acted just about the same.
I concur, the Gnex definitely feels like it has a laggy UI in comparison to the SGS2 and even the SGS1!
The twitter app shows this easily. Putting certain live wallpapers on also shows this.
I hope it's resolved via software soon because other than the SGS2 having a noticeable performance advantage, everything about ICS is awesome.
IMO, the only pro of getting Nexus is the LED notification and a guaranteed swift OS update

Take this for what you will. But with ICS on nexus s people said the twitter app kicked ass after they forced hardware acceleration on. But unfortunately that can mess up other apps.
So maybe if twitter app was ICS ready w/ hardware acceleration it wouldn't lag.

The SGS 2 to the Galaxy Nexus is more of a sidegrade..
The Nexus has a better screen, is more comfortable in the hand (imo), has no carrier or manufacturer crap on it and will get Android upgrades before anything else will.
I've had both but I prefer the Nexus overall, even though the GPU in the SGS 2 is a beast.
Gs2 is another great device. Plain and simple. Can't go wrong with either one. With that said, I don't think ICS will run as smooth as it does on the GN...on any other device. Official or developer made.

The laggy Twitter app is due to the Twitter dev team. Use another Twitter app. (TweetDeck, Twicca are my favorites.)

The LED is big, ugly and rarely works correctly.

Were you expecting too much? Definitely. The GS2 is already blazing fast, so how much faster did you think the GN could possibly be considering it's specs and HD screen??? Think about it logically.

This is true. The question is, why does it run smoothly on the SG II without hardware acceleration? :S
Isn't the web browser and TW launcher (on the SGS2) hardware accelerated (something Samsung implemented themselves)?

I love that it's big. That way you can actually see the notification (hint hint HTC Sensation). Ugly I guess is a matter of preference, but it terms of working correctly, just get lightflow. It works perfectly with the GN and you can customize it however you want.

Thinking of changing to GN

Ok peeps,
I know if I ask either forum i'll get a bias view but i'm hoping someone here can answer this for me.
I've got a SGS2 (got it on release, with the perfect screen and perfect camera)
Now when the GN came out i loved the design and i've been playing around with ICS on the SGS2 in it's Alpha guise.
So i'm becoming sorely tempted to convert to the 'Google Experience' and get a GN
However as we all know the difference between the two isn't huge.
First has anyone changed to a GN from a SGS2 and can give me a no BS assessment of just what the GN is like compared to the SGS2 in real world terms, and for a period longer than visiting a mobile phone shop.
My main likes is the near instant camera, the larger high DPI screen and ICS of course. I'm also really liking the shape instead of this large square i own.
However in the UK it's £530 and thats in cold blood, i'm uneasy paying that based on a fancy, as i'll be lucky to get £230 back for the SGS2 still making it £300. So you get the basis of what i'm getting at.
Is the GN a worthy change from the SGS2, and if you have a GN and never owned a SGS2 what do you like
and if you HAD a SGS2 and swapped to a GN why and what made it better for you.
Thanks to everyone who responds
Luke.
I had the same thinking you did when I switched from Galaxy S1 to Nexus S. I know you said Galaxy Nexus. But even still, touchwiz cannot match stock Android. Especially to ice cream sandwich. Have you seen 4.0 on touchwiz? It practically made it look horrendous.
I believed I saw some threads in the past in regards to switching from S2 to the GN. If you search for it, I'm sure you'll find something.
Stock android + Developers phone. Can't get any better than that.

cant help with the questions as i've never used a SGS2, but the nexus is £515 from three (£500 + £15 PAYG sim).
i've not used the three sim i got with mine on release, but they wont sell it without you buying the PAYG sim as well.
There have been a handful of threads exactly like this with people switching from SGSII to SGN, you should take a look and see what the OP's came to in those.
No touchwiz makes it well worth it. HD screen is a huge plus. ICS (without touchwiz).
However....both are awesome phones.

hmm didn't see anything i'll extend my searching. thanks for the replies gentlemen
I came from S2 (Epic 4G touch) on Sprint to GN on Verizon. I did enjoy the S2 but disliked the fact that I had to run custom ROMs to get decent battery life out of it. I enjoyed the screen and camera on the phone and I did not mind touchwiz. I ran UnNamed as my daily once it was released for the CDMA version of the S2. I liked it but the speeds in my area on Sprint were on average less than .25 Mbps which I consider horrible and unacceptable. I'd been with Sprint for 12 years and had basically had enough. I had the S2 since 09/2011 and sold it since it paid for my entire ETF with Sprint.
I'd been eying the GN for quite some time but I'd have to make the switch to Verizon. ICS has taken a bit to get used to as it's obviously a huge change from my S2. I've had the GN for just 3 days now and I'm glad I made the switch. The only thing I miss from the S2 is its camera. I really liked the Samsung camera app and quality from the S2. However, I don't take many pictures with my cellphone so I don't need that great of quality.
I'm glad I made the switch but mine was ultimately due to poor service from my provider.

I've had 3 GS2, all variants with Exynos, and I have to say I love this phone much more than I did the GS2! The screen is the most loved feature, then comes the overall UI speed rivaling the GS2 and in a lot of ways crushing it and everything from the sexy curves to the overall build quality. And you can sell your GS2 for $500 or $600 easily on here or Ebay

I'm actually opposite to most of you guys in here
ICS stock launcher to me seems to be as confined as a stock Touchwiz on the S2
Outside of the hardware acceleration and few features like multitasking manager and face unlock, i actually like the overall feel and flow of TW
Anything prior to TW4, i hated TW but subtle addons to TW in S2 was actually livable. I did use LP as my primary launcher purely for the fact that i couldn't select the main home screen
The SGSII's camera is great and much, much better than the GN's, which is merely average. other than that the GN absolutely trumps the SGSII.
bottom line: if you don't use the camera much then the GN is well worth the upgrade. IMO, the best smartphone around at the moment.

The only decent thing about TW4 is it's launcher. Actually, the launcher's quite a bit more than decent - i loved how smooth it was with LWP's, and also how the widgets were laid out. Perhaps the best launcher out there.
Other than that i find TW4 unbearable - not because it performs poorly but because of how it offends my eyes - from the color scheme used to the overly cartoony icons to the horribly designed and colored phone, contacts, call screen, email, messaging applications to the unbearably fruity ringtones.

Anyone come from g nexus to GS3

I have been thinking about getting the GS3 and currently have the galaxy nexus. Is it much of an upgrade to those who have switched. Anything you miss from the galaxy nexus that you wish the GS3 did or had? I know that this is a subjective set of questions so I'm just looking for opinions.

Y0u W0nt Lose Much At All Coming From Galaxy Nexus. The GS3 Has Tons More Functionality Then The Nexus. So Many More Options. Faster, Better Processor, Not To Mention A Bigger Screen. Depends 0n What Y0u Are L00king For. Cant Go Run With A GS3...
I came from both the galaxy nexus and HTC lte and I love my gs3 but really miss vanilla ics yes the gs3 is better by stats and has much more functionality but if you like your nexus stick with it they are supposidly announcing the gs4 in February so its up to to wait or not

The devices I had used before using this Galaxy S3:
Verizon Galaxy Nexus (So I was on 4G LTE as well)
HTC Rezound
Motorola Photon 4G
The things I liked about the Galaxy Nexus:
Seemingly lag less operating system
"Raw" Android felt more like a laptop than it did a smartphone because of the lack of bloat
Things I didn't like:
Signal drop. From what I understand wasn't exclusive to the Verizon version.
Software buttons took up screen real estate. Add your launcher buttons and you've essentially got two rows of software buttons.
The screen wasn't as large as some of the competitors.
The processor was already 'past generation' when it launched.
The things I like about the Galaxy S3:
It's blazingly fast. Not connection wise obviously lol (I miss you Verizon LTE but I don't miss pretending to be a baller to afford it) I used to hate TouchWiz but I don't even feel like getting rid of it for a vanilla rom since Samsung has really refined it.
The screen is HUGE. It has hardware capacitative buttons so the screen is only taken up by the launcher icons.
The hardware is more future proof. S4 Krait puts Exynos 4 to shame but compared to the Galaxy Nexus, it's like Usain Bolt.
The colors look gorgeous. The Galaxy Nexus looks good too but I feel like it's 'darker'. I don't know how to explain. The black levels are great on both but the S3 has better 'bright' colors. I guess that'd be contrast.
I have them both in front of me, full brightness on the same webpage: ign.com and for some reason the whites on the Galaxy S3 look more 'white' but both have gorgeous black levels. I also see about two extra lines worth of text plus some extra white space on the bottom of the screen, thanks to the extra screen real estate and larger screen.
Here's the thing: If I had already picked up a Galaxy Nexus on Sprint, I'm not sure I would upgrade unless the cost was minimal and I didn't waste an upgrade. The Galaxy Nexus is good enough to wait for devices later this year. However, if you could sell your Galaxy Nexus and spend very little to pick up the Galaxy S3, it's definitely a really good device.
^ I agree^. Plus, so far battery life is much better. We'll see how that compares once JB is released to the S3.
Thanks Essenar that's was the type of info I was needing. The software buttons taking up screen real estate is part of the reason I was looking at the GS3 plus I use apex launcher anyways. I will have to try to see if I can track one down on the cheap.

[REQ] Galaxy S3 icons pack

Could someone get me it? Want really bad ,thanks.
This is probably your best bet, I have flashed this before and its pretty cool you get the look and feel of the S3, it has all the icons themed and you get the widgets and apps that come with the S3, just back up before you flash in case you don't like it

Galaxy S4 apps requested

If i was to get a galaxy s4 stock rom and extract the apps (not all of them just a few that i seen and like) and then push them into the nexus 4 do you think the app would work correctly work???
Most of the Samsung apps need touchwiz framework and few other things to work. So if you just push those apps to system they will not work.

You can get s4 launcher with samsung framework so there isnt problem with framework.

Having played with my friends s4 for a few hours I honestly feel like the s4 apps are worthless. They cause a ton of battery drain and really make the phone feel sluggish. Don't bother

the only reason i dint go for samsung and bought a LG (first yet) is because of samsung bloatware
i love the launcher and a few more stuff but trying a s4 in my nearby mall made me feel that buying a nexus was totally worth it (a snapdragon 600 quadcore was laggy)
Did anyone find a way to port the camera app or the ability to multiview? (More interested in camera)
A lot of this stuff particularly multi window is probably hard to port.
-Sent from Marino's Maxx-
Multi-window is implemented deep within the touchwiz framework, so porting it will be difficult. However, PA has sort of implemented a floating window view, so in the future we might see a multi-window feature that's independent of touchwiz and whatever-LG-call-theirs.
OP, good luck with trying to get other apps ported over. Some of them should be possible, but the camera app is most likely hardware dependent, so you might have some issue with that.
To everyone else who's expressing their opinion on touchwiz app, this is not a discussion thread. If you want to express your hatred for Samsung apps so badly, go start your own circlejerk thread in General Discussion.
do you think email app can be extracted from S4 and ported over to S3?
It would be easier to get an S4, and replace TW apps with AOSP apps. You can stripe TW down to look AOSP, and still use all the TW apps you like.By buying a Google Device like an N4, your pretty much locked into using AOSP apps. Porting TW apps these days to AOSP devices is pretty difficult, and not worth the time.
Only Thing I truly want from the S4 is the message App!!!!
You can send them all the pics you want and it wont show up as a Slideshow!!!!!
Stupid that Android hasn't adressed this issue.
That's the one thing that iOS got right and so did Samsung!
I would love to have the camera and gallery app, even if some dev copy the new features and put it in a their own app I would love. Animated Pictures :victory: like... GIFs... with your camera... :victory::victory::victory::victory: and sound :victory::victory:

Uh, actually the Snapdragon 600 is supposed to be faster than the S4 Pro that's inside our Nexus. Not that the S4 Pro is bad or anything - quite the contrary, but the 600 is higher up on the food chain. The lag you noticed was most certainly caused by Samsung's bloatware, plain and simple. Wait till the Galaxy S4 Google Edition comes out and everyone on YouTube makes comparison videos of these devices AOSP vs. AOSP - that will give a better indication of who has the stronger hardware. The performance will be close, but Samsung does have the upper hand, even if just by a little bit.
Also... Yuck, Touchwiz! WHY!?

BTW I will not go for any Google edition phones as they are unnecessarily given such a high price tag!

Those devices are cheaper than retail value in many territories... that primarily pay retail value for phones.
Even the N4 didn't receive the Play prices in most of Asia. It still retails close to $400 even.
