HTML5 is growing slowly. I'd say it'll be like 2014 when HTML5 is more common than Flash.

i already have CM9 installed on my old I9000
is fun to play around with, but not ready for prime time, because a lot of the Android Market apps that i use on a daily basis are not compatible yet with ICS
so it's going to be a long painful wait before being able to enjoy ICS fully, even if it becomes available for our T989

i agree. prolly best to just get a new ICS device if you want that. but.. it's still good to see the evolution of software.

eehhhhhh... what does that has to do with getting a new hardware?
the current hardware are perfectly fine, just the programmers needs to get their things together and make sure their software are ICS compatible
There's quite a few devices with cm9 alphas already. We wont be waiting to long to see it on our phone.

Even the g2x has a alpha version of cm9 working since Thanksgiving night so I'm sure this phone will have it soon. Also this is my first Samsung smartphone I am hoping Samsung does a little better than LG when it comes to updates and support for their phone. The g2x was a nightmare thank God I had one of the few g2x's that did not have all the bugs.

I thought it was common knowledge that CM9 was being developed. No?
This thread is a fail. What does Nexus S development have anything to do with the GS2 ICS rom? They are entirely different chipsets.

Thanks. Added to my feed for updates.
It would be cool if/when it becomes possible for our phones to multi-boot or at least a savvy developer creates a VMWare-esque app or any other way for any other way for us to use multiple ROMs simultaneously without the need to backup, wipe, flash, repeat for each different ROM we wanna try. For example, this would be useful for us to try out a ROM that's not daily driver-ready without wiping our daily driver. Just a thought...

WoW! Multi-tasking browser? Link!

WoW!!!
How good does this look? Although I have to say will probably have more use with your tablet...
Only prob is it is not a free app, and probably rightly so as I have never seen an android browser do this before!
If anyone gets it, post review here.
Enjoy

Flash is not working on GB. Force Close. Well, anyway a good one, would buy it again.
Flash doesn't work on android versions below 3.0, but works fine in HC or ICS.
I have this on my Transformer, its very good, it will run on top of almost any app, so you can for example read from a web page whilst typing notes in another app.
You can also have lots of windows open simultaneously.
the windows are scale able and collapse able, and the browser is fast and capable.
not a lot of use on the SGS2 but if you have a tablet its definitely worth a look, and now, before the price goes up.

Pinch-to-zoom on the stock browser doesn't work as well compared to Dolphin HD

I've noticed that when you try to pinch and zoom on web pages with the GN using the stock browser, it won't work correctly if one of your fingers is on either a link or a picture. Using Dolphin HD eliminates this issue.
Go to the CM9 download link to see what I mean. http://get.cm/?device=maguro
-- zoom in and out while having one finger on the download links and then do the same while your fingers are only on the white part below the links. You'll notice you can zoom in smoother and further in.
Do the same on espn's desktop page where the big picture is on the top part of the page.

Kernel? I personally haven't noticed this and just tested on both pages you mentioned; I'm on the stock kernel. If you're not on the stock CM9 kernel then that's the first place to look.

I have the same problem with the stock browser when my fingers are on top of a flash video, at least on nhl.com.
Went to nhl.com desktop site, started video, and pinched to zoom fine.
Ok I think it's the stock browser for me. I used Dolphin HD and it worked fine.

lmao. It was on the penguins website. I don't know if each team has different page styles or not. Here is a link to try out that I reproduced last night http://www.bit.ly/ySPdQ5
Now that one I could reproduce. However other flash tests worked OK for me. Odd. At any rate, there will always be sites that don't work perfectly on phones.

This device does not support flash?

This is the message I get when going to a couple websites last night? The Flash Player program is not even in the Play Store! I just notice this because you tube and other embedded videos I watched on facebook worked just fine. What is going on? Im rooted by the way.
You can side load flash. If you want to use it in a browser, the best I have found is Dolphin. With it I am able to play amazon videos which require you to have flash. Officially it isn't the device. Adobe is not supporting the newer versions of android.
Damn what happened? Are the browsers running html 5? And what is sideload and how do you do it?
Flash is not supported on mobile at all anymore. You have to side load the apk

Thats OK, I can do without the resource hog.
Guys that's partially accurate what you guys are saying. All android phones have dropped support for flash BUT samsung and adobe have entered into agreement to continue supporting flash for s3 models, and because we have similar processor to the s3, the support gets extended to us aswell! If you want to install flash you can do so directly from adobe's website, google it how to install flash on galaxy note 2, and it should be there somewhere

Flash gets a bad rap. It performs well even on phones less equipped than this beast. Plus it is only "hogging resources" when it's in use. It's assuredly not some daemon running in the background, randomly chomping on things to keep it fed.
Jobs did a great FUD on flash and mobile, in my mind. He may have been successful, but that doesn't mean he was always right.

Kernels

Morning guys.
Just rooted and using omega rom. So far so good, no issues.
Was considering updating my stock kernel, was after some advice on which one? As a new user.
Cheers
Stuart

We're lucky because all the custom kernels are really good for Note 2.
Personally I usually use either Perseus or RedPill, but Note2Core and NEAK are great too.
Best thing to do it back-up in recovery, download each kernel, and then use each one for a few days to see which one works best for you :good:

I'm presuming (being new) I'd nandriod back up prior, and flash in the usual way?
Do the kernels have to be build number specific? Or do most generic versions work?

No probs
Yeah, Nandroid back-up via recovery first, then just flash like any other zip.
You do need to flash the kernel that corresponds to your phone model, yes. So if you have N7100 only flash N7100 kernels. If you have N7105 then only flash N7105 kernels. Should be obvious which is which in each thread though.

You can use them just how they come if you like, no harm in doing that.
If you've got some time to test the best settings for your cpu, you can play around with undervolting to CPU for slightly more battery savings, though I can't say whether or not you'll actually notice these savings in day to day use.

I used to dabble with this but I think it's now got to the point where the kernel devs do such a good job anyway that I don't feel the need to tinker anymore. For example, I get over 2.5 days from a single charge using Perseus, that's with light/moderate use and WiFi / mobile data always on.
