hi guys, quick question is it possible to root without unlocking the bootloader?
cheers i want root to get titanium backup,do a back up then flash a RUU,then install my backups
Not possible RIGHT NOW.
Asked and answered a lot of times.
You should have searched a bit before posting.
Um..... you can root without unlocking the boot loader. You cant flash custom roms without unlocking the bootloader or s-off
Please search before posting new threads. There are plenty of existing threads covering this topic.

Hi everybody. I am really THIS close to unlock my bootloader, now that I have seen that Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 is out. I really want to try this rom, but don't know yet, if I want to unlock my bootloader, because of warranty and DRM.
Anyways! I was searchin the development thread, and saw the guide in the 2nd post, but I didn't really understand it. I am a virgin in flashing roms, and don't quite get why I would have to down- upgrade to another official firmware, before flashing CM? If anyone could please tell me why they unlocked their bootloader, and a great 'How-to guide' to install Cyanogenmod with everything functional. I am sorry if anything smilair already have been asked.

Read the sticky at the top of general.

Oh thanks! I guess I was a little tad too fast, this must be the only thread I haven't read. Even though it doesn't answer all my questions..
If you unlock your boot loader with SETool (Alejandrissimo or Jinx13) then DRM is unaffected.

Okay.. I read thw whole thing.. and it didn't help me that much. I know how to unlock the bootloader and so on, but I don't have a clue how to flash a rom. In a guide, it says I should do it in fastboot, and another one says I should do it in Recovery.
I know the following steps:
1. Unlock bootloader
2. flash boot.img - recovery ( I think?)
3. Install rom from recovery and gapps (or something)
Is something wrong here?
Sorry, I thought THIS thread was in general but it's in development, should be a sticky, but hey ho. Any new rom will/should have instructions in the OP.
Thank you, I think I got it now.
Hello,
I want to remove the bloatware on my wife's WFS.
The phone is S-ON.
I searched these forums, and found the program 'NoBloat', but therefor, the phone must be rooted...
I don't want to install custom roms, since she is very happy with the interface.
Anyone an idea?

First of all, you will need s-off, doesn't matter if you use a rooted stock or a custom ROM.
Take a look at the index thread in the general section, at the general guide chapter is a rooting tutorial linked.
Swyped from my Desire S
sorry but you have to root your phone to remove bloatware
seems we need to wait until htc releases a boot loader unlock or go for xtc clip
tx for your input!
i had such a suspision....
grz.
And i got another question i tried to unlock my bootloader but the light dosen't turn blue why?
Your bootloader could be be locked. (There's multiple threads on the subject).
And there's no real custom rom you can install. Very unfortunate.
Cheers. Mate.
There are too many threads answering your question, so I'm closing this one.
Please use the Search button and do some reading before starting new threads from now on.

Hello everyone,
I am new to android family, as recently i bought an Xperia M, now i would like to ask a few questions and please bear with me since my English are not good enough.
My first objective was to immediately wipe that xperia OS and change it to stock like experience. [the closest i could find is CM11],
so after some searching i found out that in order to do that, i had to unlock the bootloader. But since the phone is new i also would like to not loose warranty, so i read i had to backup TA partitions Before even unlocking the bootloader, but in order to do this i have to root using an exploit. So please enlighten me:
1] wich rooting program should i use since i read many complains on many rooting programs
2]witch program should i use to backup the firmware before taking action [i do not care about photos and contacts]
3]if something goes wrong where do i download the official firmware of my divice to restore it back to normal? [similar to itunes that no matter what happens it restores your device back to normal]
(*) another question: after i root my phone and backup TA partitions, next step should be to unlock my bootloader [that means i only need to install a superuser.apk to gain root access again, right?] or just flash the cm11 and gapps and not worry about rooting?
Thanks in advance guys!

hi.
my zenfone 2 is coming in few hours and i want to start the process of installing Custom rom.but i don't know where to begin.
i also want to have it Root and things like this.
so where should i start?should i unlock the bootloader first?
Go to general part of forum, at the top is a thread you might like... Do a lot of reading first...
Just one little hint, if you want to unlock bootloader, you can't re-lock, firmware MUST be 2.19.40.18 - 2.19.40.22. Anyothers is doomed to failure...
