I am new to the whole rooting and flashing roms and kernels. I rooted my epic 4g touch via QBKing77's videos and then followed his video on how to install the clockwork mod recovery with the agat recovery. Then I went to google play and bought ROM manager pro and clicked "flash clock workmod recovery" and it showes that I have the latest version flashed, but when I then go to "boot into recovery" it boots into the clockwork mod recovery but when I try to use my volume buttons to navigate nothing happens. But they work in AGAT recovery? Whats wrong? What should I do?
Thanks
Im having similar issues with CWM. I have premium installed and when I click boot to recovery it goes to a weird android recovery with an android twirling something but there is no option for an image nandroid backup...and when i click on make a backup from the CWM menu it takes me to the same screen but says error and aborts... have the stock root...ff18....i have verified root. I also have odin mobile...it would be nice to be able to just upload whatever i meed from there without having to go thru all this odin stuff...Never had to with my att skyrocket 2
Why did you buy rom manager pro. Rom Manager can not flash recoveries on this phone. Recoveries are packed into the initramfs of our kernel unlike most phones. At best you get a temp flash which by the way has proven to be an unsafe thing.
I am not familiar if anyone has any updated safe repacks with just plain stock cwm. But there are custom recoveries based on it for stock TW roms. CM9 has stock CWM and TWRP though.
I don't think the video told you to buy rom manager pro and or to try and flash recoveries with it. You flash kernels that have recoveries. You can do this with tar's in odin/mobile odin and or if you have custom recovery cwm zips then.
AHHH was about to say i just realized i needed to update the correct kernel in order for it to work...thank you for the lightning quick response tho...

Okay thanks. So i can use the agat recover to wipe caches and install zips?

So I don't want to unroot. I have amonra, clockwork, and rom manager. When I boot into recovery it goes straight to ra recovery, I have to flash the update.zip to get to clockwork. I would just like it to boot straight to clockwork or to remove ra
I installed rom manager the other day and updated to the latest version thinking that would overide ra when booting to recovery from rom manager, only for ra to come up saying 'bad' update.
I know this will more than likely be simple, I have done a few searches but not found much apart from unrooting.

you need to re run unrevoked and untick use custom recovery so it flashes clockwork or use custom and select a clockwork recovery of choice
its in the clockworkmod thread in the dev section and the amonRA thread
please read them
Hello!
You need to unrevoked again....Downolad unrevoked for your phone, BEFORE to plug your phone to your computer go in the up left corner and choose your recovery , wich can be amonra or clockwork mod, let computer do the job and voila! You are donne
Thanks you very much dudes. I was a total noob to all things root when I did mine and just followed steps from a mate. I couldn't remember how RA got on there. Cheers
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Hey, so I hope you guys check this. I tried running the unrevoked again.
Only for it to seemingly get right to the end and attempt root (I thought it was just going to reflash and slap the clockwork in there) for it to say Error: failed to get root - Is your firmware too new?
Is there an easy way around this? Or is it the rom I am running??
I haveOxygen-20. RC6

You don't get 2 recoveries. If you 'fake flash' using ROM Manager it'll lose CWM instead of your normal recovery
You could try to S-OFF with AlphaRev iso (which will also update the recovery to CWM-AlphaRev 2.5.1.8 with dark blue color)
When you are S-OFF you can update the recovery with fastboot
If you don't want or cannot do all this, you could try to fake flash the CMW 3.2 recovery when you need it.
Fake flash means to load another recovery (3.2) while in recovery (2.5) by simply applying a zip file. You then have all the feature of the 3.2 recovery without permanently installing it.
1) put the zip with 3.2 recovery on your SD card (zip in thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1039954)
2) boot in recovery
3) apply the zip (like you would flash a rom, but it only loads the 3.2 recovery operating system without removing/deleting any file in your phone). You should notice the text color change and a few more options in the menu.
4) enjoy
Fake Flash is more or less what what Rom Manager is doing when you use it to reboot in recovery mode (but it only supports a restricted set of recovery versions that have been tuned to work with Rom Manager).
Another benefit of fake flash is that you can still use your old nandroid backups, as it it not recommended to restore with recovery X a backup made with recovery Y.
i was on the gingerbread leak, but got tired of it cuz its not completely stable, and i had clockwork mod 3.1.0.1 and it worked fine. i flashed back to ec05, froyo, and flashed clockwork mod 3.1.0.1 and it keeps freezing. i have ran error checking on my computer and re formated it in android and no luck. keeps freezing in the same spot! do i need to try a different clockwork version?
I have never had that issue, but how long are you giving it to run the backup? Also, why did you need to re flash cwm? Are you using rom manager or 3 finger boot to get into recovery? Here is a link to the acs recovery which is a modified version of cwm 4. If you install it you will have acs recovery on 3 finger boot and whatever recovery that is included with your kernel (probably cwm 3.1.0.1) via rom manager still.

it would run perfectly smooth on gingerbread. and it gets stuck on backing up system on file #11596 or something like that, and clockwork doesnt have an offical recovery for my phone so i have to use odin to flash a recovery. so i use the 3 finger boot. ill try the acs recovery and see what happens. if not ill have to go back to 3.0.0.5, which is the one that came with the rom.
I have a stock EL29 rooted and here is all that I have done (in order):
Installed ClockwordMod ROM manager from the market
clicked flash recovery at the top.
now all I get is the warning sign with the android guy.
I can turn the phone off and boot back into normal, but still no recovery.
My goal here is to make a nandroid backup to flash a custom rom. I searched for previous posts about this and found nothing applicable.
Thanks
ROM manager shouldn't be used... it causes a bunch of problems.
you're better off using SFHUB's auto-root package. since you said you were rooted already, just choose option 'c' and install CWM. here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
Reboot into recovery and nandroid
Thanks for your help! Worked like a charm.
wat is the difference between flashing with stock recovery and flashing with cwm??
i think flashing via odin is flashing only a stock rom (but i think u can flash also a custom rom in odin) while in cwm flashing you can flash custom rom,. just my opinion..
You can only flash a few Zips using the stock recovery. CWM on the other hand, supports most of them. And CWM has a lot more options than the stock recovery. You can also backup your stock and custom Roms using CWM.
you can process the same UPDATE.ZIP files in CWM , which you also might process in stock recov. CWM contains those functions as a subset.
so there is no need for stock recov, because CWM handles all UPDATES.ZIPs just as well. plus, CWM is more feature rich.
is there any CWMs that planted to the phone? like CWM on Gal Ace...
the previous CWM is lack in something. If you delete the CWM zip youll get your HH bootlooping and error
and don't forget to mention that install custom rom via odin will raise bin counter...it will make your guarantee void.

no .
And this is too general a question to be posted in a device specific forum!!
Hi everybody!
I'm having an issue with agat recovery. After flashing cyanogenmod beta 2, agat recovery v2.2ish disappeared and in place was CWM version 6 something. Not sure why this is happening as i'm new to rooting/flashing.
Here's a history of what I did so far. Rooted the phone using qbking77 instructions, installed agat recovery using mobile odin, made nandroid backup, then flashed cyanogenmod beta 2. a few days later installed JB Tweaks & Fixes by exit_only. A few days later noticed that agat recovery wasn't there and in it's place was CWM v6.0.1.5.
So... here's the sketchy part, for some reason I thought since mobile odin wasn't installed, agat must have uninstalled itself as well. so I installed mobile odin again, flashed agat recovery again. the phone rebooted but it wouldn't bootup after the samsung splash screen (blank display). I tried to boot into recovery (volume up + power button) which worked, agat recovery was back! since the phone wasn't booting up, I decided I should do a nandroid recovery but at the last minute thought I should flash cyanogenmod beta 2 again with gapps just to see if it would work. rebooted the phone after both were installed, it was back to normal but when I checked if agat recovery was there, it was changed back to CWM 6.
how do I get agat recovery back? Thanks!

so if I wanted to flash another rom, I can just go into cwm recovery & erase dalvik cache & all user data and select flash rom?
Yes. The recovery that comes with CM is a safe recovery. Typically what I tell people is to be safe and always flash from a safe recovery. If ever in doubt, odin (in pda slot) or mobile odin this recovery and then flash whatever rom you want:
