I'm new here.
I ask a few.
I installed the 0.8.2 IceColdJelly Rome. Thanks for this
For my understanding:
Why do I need a boot.img?
Need into a separate kernel? If so, what?
e.g. Faux? Why?
Sorry for my bad english...
Thank you

boot.img = your kernel
I personally am sticking to stock kernel because it apparently is the most "stable" kernel around, and honestly if i don't have lag i don't see a reason to switch. As to why you would want to switch to faux kernel, i hope someone answers that question for you.

Hi ,
Does anyone know if there is an oc kernel for the galaxy w - I am hoping I can run one with the 2.3.6 "value pack"
as I like the os and would be happy to stick with it

is that just the kernel ?
can't find it if so , do you have a link
thanks
No, it's a ROM made by Cowithgun, and it's kernel is oc. But I don't know if there's a package with the kernel only for flashing... But I know that Mutant ROM has this Kernel as option for install on Aroma Installer. So this may be available somewhere.
can't seem to find just kernel - if anyone else can let me know ,
thanks

Hello!
Original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943412&page=31 was closed by TeeJay3800 on 11.11.2012...
That's why I'm posting question here:
- in the download file, there's a "boot-HELLBOY-sc-OC-VDD.img" kernel from 07.11.2012
Is it possible to use latest HELLBOY kernel with that ROM? - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954967
Thanks in advance and best regards, Mat

Just to reconfirm - that one?: [Kernel] [PrimoU] 2012/12/02 Titanium-KISS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1765687

One more question
I have root, TWRP 2.3.1.1. recovery and latest Titanium-Kiss kernel.
Is it mandatory that I flash kernel again?
Also - is mandatory to delete kernel that is in ROM zip file, or can I just leave it there and it will do no harm?
Sorry, it will be my first custom ROM...
I'll try that one first, as is says "stable" - hope to learn a lot and then, when I'll know how to do it and reverse it, to go to CM10... - what do you think? Which one? Not which ROM is the best, I read that it's prohibited to question that, but just your idea as "guru", what do you think?
Thank you very much in advance and best regards, Mat

See as long as u stay in aosp it's not necessary to flash the kernel again
Pa,aokp,cm10 are based on aosp
But if u switch to sense u have to
Ur twrp Is correct
Although using a unpublished version is not safe
And. Leave the kernel in the zip ...don't mea with it...it's personal opinion ....all roms are same but customization differs ...if u flashing first time try cm10
Here is a detailed procedure

One more for the road...
First, I'd like to thank you for your reply :good:
Just one more question:
- as I'm going from stock ROM to custom, I thought to make "clean" install - wipe everything, including SD card and start from beginning, installing first new ROM, then gapps, then all my apps, do all settings and so on...
- is that a good idea? :fingers-crossed:
I'd rather do that, because I don't know if I do restore how all backed up apps will behave on new ROM...
Thank you very much in advance and best regards, Mat
Nahh....formatting the sd card ain't necessary ....but doing a full wipe for the phone is a must

If you don't know what a kernel is you need more then a link mate, check in the android dev section and check for the Alex V thread. It's not that hard.

Yes it does work on ViperX - if you can install that you can install AlexV
if you have the kernel.zip ? flash the desired boot.img from the zip and install the .zip file via the recovery.

Kernel goes together with the ROM, so if you have the most recent ROM, you also have the most recent kernel, too.

I think AR beast is better. More customization and better overall hope I helped
I need some help. I'm pretty noob with all what is related to kernel and Custom Rom in general. I just wanted to know if using QPST method I restore the stock kernel, if previously I installed another one with a Custom Rom.
And if i doesn't, where can I find it?
