I rooted my HOX yesterday and am wondering if it would be safe to use the OTA update to 2.2 as long as I use the protections like OTA Rootkeeper and Supersu etc? I hear people say root and the new update don't mix at all, so I would like the info on whether or not I have to put up with the ATT message every day or upgrade to the awesome 2.2

You cannot update OTA if you are rooted as you would have installed Clockwork Recovery. OTA requires stock recovery to work.
Go to the One XL forum if you have a One XL (which you do).
It's the One X, I promise. I don't know anything about recovery, but it still sends me update notices
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
No, I can assure you, it isn't.
Two reasons; the One X is not available on AT&T (despite what they call it), and there is no 2.2 update for the One X.
Explain that then please. I used the root for the 1.85 HTC One X and it worked, and in the same thread they said the OTA update ATT is trying to push was the 2.2 which had no way to root yet. It's a new phone for me so I want to learn what I can and can't do yet
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Explain? Again you're ONE XL..
Look at the 4G LTE Icon.. It is XL like benpope toldyou.
"root for the 1.85 HTC One X", again because youre on XL not X. There is no rooting on One X currently unless official bootloader unlock AND One X have no 1.85 version numbers.
Alright, no need for feisty, just trying to learn about my device. I do have root though, ig I'll settle for that

Well, let the 2.2 update go through and lost my root access...whatever phone I do have, not even Supersu or ota rootkeeper saved my root.

I have a rooted htc desire, with stock rom, but with clockworkmod. Today, I received a notification that a new ota update is out. I understand that I will lose my root, but is it safe to update through ota? Will it replace the custom recovery?
I already have problems with cwm. It doesn't work... it says that it can't mount cache, and I can't flash anything with it, nor make a factory data reset.
Is there a risk my phone will get bricked?
I really want this 3.0 update.
So...is it safe to update?

Download the update first. Before installing it, upload it here and let's have a look at it. Btw, its highly unlikely that the update is 3.0

Tell me if the download works.
And I was talking about the new Htc sense 3.0. Did you see how cool ot looks? XD

Thanks. I'm taking a look and will try to get you a flashable zip for rooted phones tomorrow. Can you upload your system/build.prop after renaming it to system/build.prop.txt ?
This is the build.prop.txt

This is a rooted OTA update for 2.29.405.5 which upgrades it to 2.29.405.14. To be applied by people who've rooted their phones, but havent applied any custom rom. It's a collection of binary patches for 2.29.405.5 firmware. Applying it should be safe in the sense that it shouldnt disturb your recovery/kernel.
This has not been tested on my phone, and hence is an alpha at the moment. Follow usual precautions like taking Nandroid backup before applying.

Thanks, anything juicy in that OTA?
No way to know unless someone installs it and sees. There should have been been a description in the original OTA notice.

Hi everyone,
I have got a rooted HOX, and I flashed what I think is a custom rom. I did this beacuse I am getting prepared for an ota update and my bigger question is if with this rom I will be able yo receive the official update.
Here are the details of the rom.
Thx.

As long as you have a stock recovery you should get the updates. It looks like you are on the 1.29.401.11 rom so you should. But you will lose root after you get another update.
As i see this is stock rom and you will have ota update.

Htc One X Venom ViperX Rom & faux123 b004b7 Kernel
Why root if you want to wait for OTA updates?
Because when I bought it it was already rooted...
In fact I dont know what to do... Stay rooted, or unroot it and receive OTA updates.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
You certainly will.
As far as you come back to your stock rom, you will get your OTA. you need to download keeproot app from google play to stay rooted though.
And on another carrier ??? Just wondering.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
As long as your device has the stock ROM, yes you will receive the OTA update even it is unlocked.
To successfully install the OTA, you need the stock recovery.

Yes, if there is an update for your device. Make sure you enable all the apps that you disabled if you did that before. If you did not disable any app, then you are good to proceed the update
Hi,
I want to know how you get RUU for HTC (I have HTC One X.) phones. I ask because I want to update my phone to JB but I don't want root. I know that's now unavailable, but where you get it when it'll be available? Is then possible to update phone via OTA? Thank you!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543604
And next time, please post questions in the Q&A, ok ?
Sorry
I'll post it next time to Q&A. I swear . However can you answer my questions?
He has, with a link to the thread with the available RUU's. Once a RUU has been installed then yes you can receive OTA's.

Thanks a lot
Thanks a lot. So I have last question - If I install older RUU, will it show me the OTA for JB and will I be able to update it without errors?
You will only get the JB update notification when it is available for your CID regardless of whether you RUU your phone. If you are completely stock now, installing the RUU will not speed up the OTA process for you.

Thanks again
Thank's a lot (my CID_32 got 2 hours ago JB.)
In which case, if you are stock/non rooted then you should receive it shortly
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I rooted my phone and i want to get back to stock. (no just for JB update)
Ah I see, I thought you meant you were already unrooted. In that case then the RUU will be of use to you. Make sure you download the correct one for you CID/region from the link above

I received a 1.25 mb ota update but I am rooted can I install this safely without messing up my htc one x it is unbranded
I think it's a OTA for preparing your phone to get the JB upgrade, I downloaded the same update, but for forcing JB update, only to see what's inside and it had 1.25 mb.

flash stock recovery.
And use a search button.....and post in the right part of the forum ! This is the general, you belong in the Q&A part with these things. And yes there are numerous posts like this with the exact same question ..... we keep on repeating ourselves for ages in here ..... and so it is !
No problem make the update
I think I heard somewhere that if you are rooted and you do get an OTA and install it then the update will re-lock your HOX and you'll need to root again...
I could be wrong
It doesn't relock the device, it just removes the root, you can apply the root easily after the update !
