Is it re required to wipe data when flashing a rom? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

title says it all.

It's always a good idea to do so. Your more than welcome to try it without, but make sure you have a nandroid handy
If the roms are similar enough, you can sometimes get away with it.

for this rom

I would just wipe everything anyway that way you know for a fact it won't go into bootloop or something

always wipe if you have a problem with a rom and you know its been fixed
Well everything else works completely fine. Its just that roaming icon but I don't wanna reflash just to get rid of that one little problem is there a way I could could get rid of it without reflashing I'm on an evo by the way

I have tried many of the leaked gingerbreads just to find that this or that doesn't work. The best that I have found for battery life and everything works is this rom.

All the info you need "should" be in the OP for the ROM. For instance SRF 1.2 requires you to also flash a kernel of your choice. Most ROMs are EXT4 these days but there are a few RFS ROMs out there. And almost all include a kernel. So if you want to try someone's recommended ROM for battery life, just remember to run several backups first, a nand and something like Titanium Backup.
thanks ..im just bein a litttle more cautious cause its not my phone and i dony want to get yelled at if i mess it up

I liked simply aosp, it was a good ROM. I ran the revolted kernel with it and got good battery life and performance. if u did triple wipes in cwm like u were supposed to, then it would be like starting a new ROM with nothing on it. Are u sure u flashed it right?
Edit: flashing roms on the epic is very similar to flashing them on the evo, minus the cool amon-ra recovery

When modding someone else's phone that it the kind of ROM you want. The one that makes some new graphics and keeps everything else the same. What launcher is on her phone? If it is still Touchwiz, get her to start using another launcher since a lot of ROMs remove twlauncher as bloat. I got ADW for my GF and I use Zeam. It will save you a homescreen nightmare.

well, as long as it works, then you're good to go. i always found that flashing without wiping data or restoring data from a previous flash has a tendency to cause issues with the rom later on. if u do have any problems, u may have to go back into cwm and wipe data as well as the cache and dalvik (3x/ea) then reflash your rom. but again, if it ain't broke... also, kenny said something about the touchwiz launcher... that launcher is included in the simply aosp rom under the "simply settings" app, as are the gingerbread launcher and the froyo launcher. i like touchwiz ok, i prefer the gingerbread launcher over that tho.

Cm10 over cm10

I have the asylum build of cm10. Its a good fast app. Last couple of days it developed something i guess. In the apps menu when switching from on page to the next it twitchy like, jittery almost hesitant, some apps are slow to open, and scrolling different pages its shaky hesitant as well. So maybe switching to a different build(er) might solve this. Ive wiped cache dalvik and permissions. Nothing changes. Only thing ive done is add a custom boot animation, and kt747 kernal. This issue started before i flashed the above. Any suggestions? Thanks

I guess my question is, can i flash anpther cm10 over this one without wiping everything? Or is that not a good idea? Any good builds you know of? Please include link. Thanks

If switching between ROMs then i always do a full wipe, just to be safe, and I never have issues.
So just choose another ROM and do a full wipe before flashing it, make sure you backup anything you want to keep though

4g connection will not work on task650 4.2.2 - 2.23.12 at&t SGH-I747

Can't change network mode I'm always stuck on LTE/GSM/WCDMA and my APN's (all of them) don't do anything also some gapps not working correctly and sometimes I just drop service and need to reboot plus my device will reboot/power off on its own whenever it feels like it...if you know of anything I can look into and read up about that will help some of these issues please help me and my S3!

Whoa Kimosabe! You need to give us more info. I can guarantee you this has nothing to do with tasks ROM. First off did you do a clean install? That's the first thing you should do. What provider are you with? What radio? Give as much info as you possibly can. I'm pretty sure that your problem should go away after a thorough wipe and a clean install.

Do a full wipe and reinstall. This includes format/system. Until you do that, you really don't know if the problem is a bad install or dirty flash.
If that doesn't work, switch modems. My money is on a full wipe/reinstall fixing it though as everyone else is up and running on 4G with no issues.

Read that. It should set you on your way.
Sorry to tell you that but, it happen to me before when I was running on Task's rom and there is nothing to do with the rom. It is your S3 need to get back to stock. I did was put my S3 back to stock by using odin and then immediately, 4G LTE start to kick in and working. After few mins, you can root and flash back to task's rom. Hope this help!

GPS CM11 Help

Before anyone gets upset I did search for awhile before asking about this. I'm sure the answer is in a thread somewhere I just can't find it and the search ability in the xda app is terrible.
GPS is not working in cm11 and I know to fix you must flash a backup. I'm just looking for a good walkthru. I'm wondering things such as: Do I do a complete wipe?(not the SD partition obviously) After flashing backup and getting a gps lock do I immediately shutdown and boot into recovery? Before I flash cm11 should I do a fresh install or a backup? My Cm11 M4 is running flawlessly except for the gps. Any help would be amazing. I am going on the road for at least 3 months and will need the gps in proper working order while I'm out there. Thanks guys! Love xda!

What I did was
make nandroid of aosp rom.
Wipe all except internal storage
Restore/flash stock based rom
##gpsclrx# (##4772579#)
Enter msl (call sprint for it if u don't have it)
Phone will reboot
Open location settings, disable network/wifi location
Open maps, get lock, walk around a little bit, around 5 minutes
Reboot recovery
Wipe all except internal storage
Restore aosp
As always, ymmv but that's always fixed it for me
