My problem: (I'm a total noob)
1. used Unrevoked 3.21 to ROOT - finished
2. used Revolutionary to S-OFF - finished
However, desire went into bootloop. Finally loaded, worked fine. After restart - same bootloop.
3. Decided I would just restore everything by flashing stock RUU as in video (noob proof guide)
used 2.29.405.14 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 (same as mine)
Finished installation, but on boot desire gets stuck on white HTC screen.
Details:
Revolutionary
Bravo pvt1 S-OFF
Hboot 6.93.1002
Tried the following methods described in bortak's troubleshooting guide:
[1] didn't work - press "Recovery" --> white HTC screen
[2] Method 1 - Android flasher freezes after: "booting, OKAY, finished." --> white HTC screen. Recovery --> white HTC screen.
[2] Method 2 - "fastboot oem gencheckpt"- phone goes to white HTC screen - cmd freezes after "Info hboot time"
Disconnect phone -> "failed (status read failed (too many links)) finished. total time". Recovery --> white HTC screen.
Could you help me, please?
Should I just try to rerun the same RUU on fastboot? Or flash the same ROM with PB99IMG.zip method? Any other actions necessary or any other suggestions?

I know I just replied differently on my guide, but try this first.
Get cmd out and type some things! You'll need fastboot for this, you can find a zip file which contains all you need on my guide, attached in one of my posts called fastboot.zip. unzip it into c:\
Download a recovery image (.img file), rename it to recovery.img and place it into c:\ boot your phone into fastboot mode (when it's off, hold back and power), and plug it in via USB.
[code]fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot oem gencheckpt
This should flash and boot your new recovery. If it doesn't work then grab the 2.3 RUU from resources on my guide. You don't need a goldcard, or anything. Just the RUU, boot into fastboot, plug in via usb and run RUU.exe
[PROBLEM SOLVED]
Thanks, bortak. The first method didn't work.
Installed 2.3 RUU - finished installation:
windows - "this program might not have installed correctly"
desire - bootloop.
Removed sd card, booted - everything's fine, inserted sd card - everything's fine. Tried rebooting - fine.
The device seems to be running fine.
[PROBLEM SOLVED]
At last I'm able to enjoy my desire
bortak, thank you very very much for you support )

In my sig, there's an sd-card partitioning guide. In that guide, you will find methods to install 4ext recovery. Try them.
thanks dude, i will try and let you know, :good:
jmcclue said:
Updated to the latest version, 4ext Recovery Touch v1.0.0.5 RC9
EDIT: No need to rename it now, just download and put on sdcard.
Edited because some people could not get it to work because renaming it was the hardest thing in the world :banghead:
All credits to Madmaxx for this great recovery....
Download PB99IMG.zip and put it on ur sdcard and then with ur phone off hold volume down + power. ur bootloader will look for the PB99IMG then ask u if u want to update recovery, volume up for YES, it will then ask you to reboot device, volume down for NO. Once its finished u now have 4ext recovery and just use volume buttons to navigate to recovery then press power button to enter recovery. I have tried it myself and it works, its the exact same method to install as Alpharev's hboots via PB99IMG.
Dont forget u must be S-OFF lol
Dont forget to delete it off sdcard once ur done or u will get asked to update everytime u enter bootloader

hey guys, need some help:
been flashing radios, roms and spls succesfully in the past year on my htc magic.
recently upgraded to the desire and wanted to start flashing here as well.
i can see the device with adb devices (or fastboot devices), so driver must be installed correctly
but when i fastboot flash recovery (AmonRA) it sends ok but then fails writing with the error "fastboot failed (=remote not allowed)".
the desire has froyo sense stock on it and booting into fastboot gives me this info:

so i have s-off which is good, but why can't i get amonra on the phone?
do i need another hboot? and what about spl?
please someone explain what i'm missing here!
thx,
v.
You could try and use the Android Flasher utility. Makes it easier and I've had no problems with it.
hey, thanx for your answer, and nice prog!
it didn't work though: i booted the phone into fastboot, started the prog and gave it amonra's recovery. it all looked like it worked. the phone also reboots just like it says in the prog. but it still doesn't get the recovery on the phone.
so here's my updated status report, i hope someone can help me out:
i rooted succesfully yesterday (the unrevoked method). the version from their site that you can download now didn't do the trick though, i got the missing CID error that lots of others also get. i searched that problem and found the unrevoked prog in its version 3.2. that one worked. so the phone is rooted and unrevoked also flashed clockwork mod recovery.
i then succesfully flashed a rom (oxygen) and this all works which is nice.
my problem is that i
1.) can't boot into recovery by pressing home + power. i have to fastboot, then choose bootloader, then recovery. this starts clockwork mod.
2.) i can't get amonra to my phone. it won't work via fastboot flash recovery (error mentioned in post #1) or via the program mentioned in post #2.
i'd really like be able to flash recovery and radios via fastboot commands, i'm used to it and i don't like the fact that i get an error when i try this.
what's causing the problem here?
it must also be related to the fact that i couldn't get amonra installed via the program mentioned in post #2.
is it my hboot?
i'm rooted and also s-off.
so what is causing this locked up behavior?
i'd apprecciate any help you can give me,
thx,
v.
Try flashing it from the phone itself.
Place amonra.img in sdcard root directory.
From terminal emulator or over adb type flash_image recovery /sdcard/amonra.img
Then reboot, this can be done from recovery or from android.
already tried that method yesterday (sorry i forgot to mention it).
didn't work either.
i just ran unrevoked again and clicked "custom recovery" and added the amonra recovery. unrevoked ran thru the rooting process and in the end it succesfully flashed amonra. at least i can now use amonra.
but i still can't use any fastboot commands, i always get the "failed (remote: not allowed)" error.
what the hell is going on here?!
greetz,
v.
update:
i flashed a patched hboot from alpharev and this did the trick!
i thought s-off meant i could do all these fastboot commands but i must have been wrong (or some other reason, i don't know).
i downloaded the "PB99IMG_bravo_cm7" zip (because i'm running CM7 at the moment). normally you should flash these via fastboot but as i said this didn't work on my phone so i had to use the alternative method:
"You can also download the corresponding PB99IMG zipfile, put it on your sdcard, and rename it to PB99IMG.zip. Then start the phone in HBOOT mode (VolDown+POWER) to flash the HBOOT without a PC."
now i can finally work with fastboot commands again, no more "failed (remote: not allowed)" errors!
greetz,
v.
Weird. S-Off should allow you to use fastboot commands. Very weird indeed but that's just how it goes sometimes
Hi,
my htc desire is bricked... impossible to boot etc..
when i put battery and i push on power button, in 4 corners exclamation in triangles appear. (image in attachment)
my phone is S-OFF, android 2.1
i tried upgrade with sd card.. and with android sdk tools..but is not working.
Please HELP !!!
thnx.

please give full details of your phone. What hboot? custom? what RUU?
What did you do before it broke? in what order? then what happened?
i can't see any detail.. I have access only to the fast boot.
never custom firmware.. never s-on
during the upgrade i disconnect the phone.. and i tried really all things.. installing RUU from sdcard , upload RUU with sdk tool etc. etc..
before trying updates the SDK tools i had access to the boot menu (with power + volume down combinations) but now i can not even have that.. only screen with 4 exclamation icon.. and fastboot access with sdk-tools (android 1.0 phone drivers)
since 4 days i try everything... but no result.
this htc really make me sick.
please help me.
thank you advance
Alright then, how did you s-off? What RUU did you use?
You just rooted and kept the same software?
If you disconnected during upgrade you may have bricked it and only HTC can resolve.
When you RUU what failure message do you get?

Looks like a radio brick. You never did tell me what RUU you are using.
You cant use fastboot if you are S-ON
I had that to, and i get it running again.
In my case i had flashed the cm7r2 from alpharev before, so i had to use the downgrader first, to install my stock RUU.
After downgrading i startet the RUU.exe from windows, in the first try it stoped with an error.
If this happens you have to do all steps exactly ass the RUU installer says.
In the first try i didnt do that just klicked the steps away and didnt even read what RUU recomends.
But in the second try i did all these steps and i get my phone up running again.
And its important to use the right RUU for your phone otherwise you will get an signature fail
Edit: If your not s-off and you have isues getting into recovery, try to flash revolutionary, will gain you s-off and clockworkmod recovery

excuse me again , but i im stuck..
i presumed my problem was at the section [4]RUU PROBLEMS
(since there was the htc logo problem with four /!\ )
ok, i followed thes steps:
went to alpharev.nl and downloaded the stock .img
downloaded and installed the android flasher.. i turned on the desire with the htc logo and the four triangles , choose the bootloader and i hit the Flash! button. but nothing.. nothing happens on the phone.. and android flasher just keeps hanging with the progressbar not moving. what am i doing wrong??
Are you sure you used search??
Go back to alpharev and download the file PB99IMG_stock. Rename this as PB99IMG.zip and place onto your SD card. Reboot phone with VolDn + Pwr and wait until you see "Do you want to install update?" (or something like that) and select "yes".
You will find this guide posted many times on this forum and it's not hard to locate...
I guess what the op need is to flash the hboot_downgrader first then only run the ruu. It should works.
Flashing the stock_hboot from alpharev will make no different because that is not the original stock hboot but the locked bravo_alphaspl.img with 147mb/data and the original stock hboot from htc is 148mb/data.
As mentioned in Alpharev website:
"Downgrade protection, these HBOOTs cannot be overwritten by an OTA or RUU, unless you flash a downgrader HBOOT first."
So flash downgrader hboot then run RUU.

I've tried with the android flasher this method but with no luck. should i
go with the .iso file burn it and run it to change the hboot.
(one more thing. i don't find 147/148 mb data on the bravo_xxx.img they're only a few kb :/ )
Never use android flasher so not sure about it. Try fastboot commander but do not use bravo_alphaspl.img, use bravo_downgrade img. After flashing it, run ruu.

hboot.img that you flash will change the nand partition layout. So flashing an alpharev stock hboot will change the nand partition to 147mb for data, 250mb for system and 40mb for cache. 147/148mb is not the size of hboot.
Your problem here is the RUU cannot write a new partition to nand because of the locked alpharev hboot, that is why you need to flash the bravo_downgrade.img to unlock the hboot then when you run ruu, it can write new partition layout to nand.

Very informative answer .. but for some odd reason i cannot get to downgrade the hboot.
1.Downloaded and installed the Fastboot commander 1.51
2.Downloaded the bravo_downgrade.img from alpharev.nl
3.switched on the desire (whith the htc logo and four triangles) and connected to pc
4. opened the fastboot commander and on the "hboot radio & rec" tab.. on the hboot/spl i chose the bravo_downgrade.img and then "flash spl"
5.it says waiting for flashing and than it fails without showing any reason
what am i doing wrong?
In your pc device manager (assuming you're on windows), is the Android USB Devices show My HTC ?
Here is the driver if needed http://rapidshare.com/files/431644974/Usb-Drivers-Android.rar (link taken from fastboot commander thread).

You have cm7r2 hboot which gives you only 145MB for system partition and RUU requires stock partition table (250MB for system).
Flash alpharev stock hboot via fastboot, it can be obtained here:
alpharev.nl
After that run RUU, it should work perfectly.
Plus:
Reconsider using some other RUU the one you used is history old. Try with 2.3 RUU.

Problem is when I plug the USB in, even doing the vol down + power press brings me this...
rite so ur stuck in ruu mode. android flasher should still work coz u can still use fastboot commands. try flash the stock hboot img with android flasher. turn off phone then hold back button + power, that brings u to fastboot

I've tried that, and got the following:
C:\Users\Phil\Desktop\Android_AIO_Flasher\tools>fastboot flash boot "C:\Users\Phil\Downloads\bravo_alphaspl.img"
sending 'boot' (512 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.098s]
writing 'boot'...
C:\Users\Phil\Desktop\Android_AIO_Flasher\tools>
FAILED (remote: image error! (BootMagic check fail))
finished. total time: 0.099s
ul have to try with fastboot commands instead, here r the commands - fastboot flash hboot C:\bravo_alphaspl.img
put the bravo_alphaspl.img directly into ur C drive then run command

Hi there
I have an HTC inspire 4G and I'm trying to install a rom on it just to get to work :/
And I've already fixed hboot problem thanks to chrisb906 and I tried several RUUs and it doesn't seem to work even if they are successfully installed!
If I boot it normally I get : 1 vibration > htc green splach screen > 2~3 secs later > 7 vibrations > black screen > nothing!
here is what I get in HBOOT

Do you have a custom recovery?
If you dont, you can find one here 4ext recovery
Download it and extract the .img file to ur adb/fastboot directory.
Rename the .img file to recovery.img
Boot your device into bootloader.
Connect your device to your PC and enter...
Code:
fastboot devices
(just to be sure.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Once its done flashing, reboot your device into recovery.
Transfer a rom to ur sd card.
Flash it and flash inpiremod if not added to rom already.

Wait i think i am beginning to get you. Pls answer these questions
1. When you boot into bootloader and then select recovery, does it vibrate and gives you a black screen?
2. When you turn it off and connect it to a computer via usb, does the charging light come on and shows up as QHSUSB_DLOAD on your computer?
3. When you try flashing ruu, via placing the ***IMG.zip on your sdcard and boot to bootloader, does it detect the ruu, asks you weather you want to flash. And after pressing volume up for yes, its looks as if its flashing but after rebooting stays the same?
4. Or when you try to flash the system.img via fastboot, does it gets stuck flashing?
1) yes, it vibrates and then 7 vibrations (after 2~3 secs) and then a black screen, and hitting the power button wont reboot the phone
2) yes, and even when it is on and on black screen it gives it to me
3) yes
3) no, never tried it

Lol..you are in serious trouble.
You might be wondering how i knew all that.
Cause it happened to my old Desire HD(Still didnt know weather it was a DHD or Inspire 4G.
It turned out it was emmc problem.
You should think of getting a new device or getting a new motherboard as that was what i did.
I followed an unbrick thread here.
It never worked for me. But you could try.
I remember i installed a wrong QHSUSB_DLOAD drivers which kind of corrupted the bootloader.
So watch out what drivers you use. There might be a possiblity, your might work.
