Is there an app 'compatibility matrix' (I just mean a list of apps that became incompatible from ICS to JB) that details which apps no longer work (until or unless updated by the author) after the switch to JB?
I'd like to see a list to see if there's any 'show-stoppers' before I install JB. Maybe other's would as well.
I guess I'm not unhappy with ICS on the Nexus yet but if I were to see that I weren't about to lose something important , then the few benefits that JB brings would really be much more appealing.
Please note in this thread any apps you've found to be broken (JB) in this thread.
Much appreciated.
SO FAR: As contributed by Efrant: The only two apps that I noticed that don't work properly in JB are CallRecorder and LBE Privacy Guard.
By me: My only experience with this so far was that one of the first I tried didn't work correctly: cifsmanager. Workaround: use terminal emulator or script manager and write a script that does this: #mount -t cifs -o username=username, password=password, domain={domain or workgroup) /./ip addr or resolved name/shareName /localtonexusdirectory_sdcard/mountdir, and that command works fine, doesn't have bad interactions with other apps, and is easily run from an init.d script. To dismount just do umount /sdcard/mountdir. (plug in your relevant values of course)
In Handcent SMS, trying to have Text to Speech read a text merely opens up the TTS Settings control panel. Otherwise, the app works great.
Using cm10 I cannot get Google now/voice search to send a text via Google voice. Native app works fine though. I also cannot get Google voice to be the default SMS app when rejecting a call.

If any of you have found any workarounds for your app in JB problems, please post them as well. Thanks again. Any of you having camera/video problems with the baked in app or have you found a ROM that just doesn't have those problems.
The only thing stopping me from switching to JB is LBE Privacy Guard/PDroid.
I guess these are such individual needs that the 'showstoppers' for each of us are all different. Thanks for helping make a list and make me aware of some of the apps that don't work.

Volume + is not working :/
I finally started using the Eclipse ROM which is great, so now I pretty much know which of my apps (from the earlier list) don't work.
As a general rule (with exceptions), a few 3d games don't work. This is the work category that needs updates to JB.
4G Toggle doesn't work.
An app I used to control volume/notifications separately. (Think it was called notify).
Wireless tether and wired tether are built in to this ROM so not important about the apps at this point.
I had some root apps that no longer work: Gscript Lite and alogcat.
I'll have to look at the rest of them. I'd say 95% work, and the others are up in the air or just don't do what they should.
GTA3 on AOKP and AOSKP by Euroskank
HBO GO. They just haven't updated their app for JB yet.
Game Dev Story - give Data Error 3 when I attempt to launch it
Pocket League Story - severely offset text (known issue for kairosoft games on JB - no support email for Kairosoft)
DroidEmu/DroidEmuLite - doesn't open NES, SNES, GBC roms (didn't test GameGear or Genesis). GBA works. Dev not sure of problem yet, Android logs don't show any problems with the app

It works partially, you just need to stop swiping notificactions or Light Flow would stop working
Here's one I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet:
aLogCat doesn't work since JB took away permissions for non-system apps to read the logs. Workaround: move it to /system/app/

If you use doubeTwist music player and have a Galaxy S III you may be experiencing app crashes, lockscreen control problems, and status bar problems. I noticed in the app review in the Google Play market there were quite a few S3 users experiencing the same problems I was having and thus decided to share the new Beta build that was sent to me.
Upon contacting doubleTwist they sent me the following .apk for the Beta build. So far everything is working very smoothly and no problems.
1. Uninstall current version of doubleTwist (if you already have the player installed).
2. Download the following .apk file
http://beta.doubletwist.com/dT-android-opt_2012-08-07-1358_r15719.apk
3. Make sure that you have "Allow installation of non-Market applications" enabled in "Android Settings > Applications".
4. Use the My Files app or any file manager app to open the file. (It will most likely be stored in sdcard > Downloads).
5. Follow the steps after you open it and install.
Very easy to do and working much, much better on my Samsung Galaxy S III. I prefer the doubleTwist player over the default stock music player because of the UI and ease of use.

mmm, look -- this COULD be great, and for sure dT is crashing a lot on my S3-- but I'd feel better about loading it onto my device if there were a link I could follow back to the company itself. Could they provide that for us?

Hmm. I, personally, cannot provide a link back to the company as it was sent to me from their doubleTwist support team to my personal email with the .apk link. However, I'm sure if you sent an email to [email protected] asking for the latest Beta Build for the Galaxy S3 I'm sure they would provide you with what you are looking for. They sent me the link just for complaining about the crashes and lack of functionality.
However, I am considering moving to PowerAmp. Downloaded the free trial for now and evaluating. I like the widget options over doubleTwist. With the S3 I want to fill my screen as I use Apex Launcher and a 6 row by 4 column setup. Being limited to only having a 2 row by 4 column widget is frustrating. Maybe when doubleTwist offers the newest version through the market and I download a Beats Audio eq on my S3 I'll switch back.

SynergyROM v1.6
This is completely AOSP with Verizon bins, and root/busybox. It's ALMOST completely functional. Check the Current Bugs section to see the two insignificant ones that are left.
READ THIS FIRST: Upon first boot (after factory reset), everything on your sdcard is moved into a new folder named "0", don't freak out. This has to do with the new multi-user functionality, and this is how it will stay. If you're wondering about the problem of nested folders being created every time you wipe data/cache, and recoveries not being able to see your backups, this has been solved with the latest recoveries. It's NECESSARY that you update to the latest CWM (6.0.1.5+) or TWRP to prevent this from happening every time you wipe data/cache (do a factory reset). Update CWM through ROM Manager, TWRP through Goo Manager or flash it through fastboot. The downloads are below.

Love this ROM! The only thing that doesn't work for me is accessing Google Now from the home screen search bar. The actual app works fine but when I press it on my search bar on my home screen it is just a dead spot. Weird thing is that the mic works fine when pressed, it is just the word "Google" that is busted? Anyone else having this issue?
EDIT: I realized that it is an issue with Apex launcher not the ROM.
Nice to see you here Grouper! Good job on your Rom. I guess I can now actually hit the thanks button unlike Rootzwiki like button.

Hey I noticed you have the T-CDMA64 thing for the pulldown text. The eri.xml is missing in the overlay, It belongs in /device/samsung/toro/overlay/frameworks/base/core/res/res/xml/eri.xml. If you put that in your source it'll report VERIZON WIRELESS every time.
EDIT: Attached the one I use in case you need it.
EDIT2: I had to zip it to get the forum to take it

This looks like a very nice rom, I have downloaded it and now in the process of restoring my apps. So far so good, I am pleased with this ROM. I tried another ROM the other day and it was horrible, my data speeds were very slow, radio seemed almost like it was dead.
This rom is quick
it is very plain, which is what I like

What exactly does the "READ THIS FIRST" affect? I apologize if the answer is obvious, but I guess I'm not sure what it means. For example, I have a bunch of Spotify songs downloaded offline. Does that mean when I do that again, I'll be taking up double the SD card space?

Ok, onto my problem. Since 4.2 renames my SD... I am unable to restore my backup via CWM. Any suggestions?
Appreciate the help!
Upon each data wipe the contents of the sdcard are moved into a new folder named "0," even if that folder already exists. There will be an update to your recovery (there is already a commit for CWM) to solve this problem. To be running 4.2, I would leave everything in the "0" folder. If you're worried about an app being able to see backups, there is also already a fix for ROM Manager if you've updated to the latest version.

Ok I'm developing an app with target of 4.2.1 and came across some odd behaviour. I think I have narrowed it down to a bug in the default keyboard in 4.2.1
I would just like others on 4.2.1 to confirm this for me so it's not me being either dense or stupid.
Bug: User input in text fields gets duplicated.
Apparent on : Devices : gnex and nex7
Affects : my App, other 3rd party apps from play, stock messaging app and contacts app. (But not the calendar)
Steps to produce:
-1. Have auto rotation turned on and be in portrait mode
1. Open messenger app (SMS)
2. New message.
3. Click on the input text area to bring up keyboard (kb must be stock one)
4. Enter something like "testyeeee"
5. (Important) minimize the keyboard with left soft key (down arrow)
6. Rotate to landscape
The result on all of my dev devices on 4.2.1 and AVD is the test is duplicated
This is a bug with the default android keyboard holding some kind of buffer and link to the text input view, so when a state/config change occurs the read of the text field is also appended with the kb buffer. (As is my guess)
I posted here so that I can get confirmation from the forum section most likely to be on 4.2.1
Me too
I can confirm this bug. It also happens in Whatsapp.
It happen to me many times writing in whatsapp but I couldn't figure out how to reproduce it.

tbh most 3rd party apps will have this bug, those that dont I need to contact the dev and ask what black magic they are using as a workaround to implement in my app
This appears to be a bug with the Android System itself and not the Keyboard as I just tried this on a port of Jellybean 4.2 Keyboard on a Sony device in multiple apps... Hope it helps Cheers
Cheers but do those ports have the stock keyboard? If not what kB were you using?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
The file I used is a 12,647KB apk LatinIMEGoogle.apk along with 1 lib file libjni_latinimegoogle.so. I am not sure where I found it but I remember reading "extracted" in the thread, so I think the original author, not sure who, has not made any changes to the apk himself.. Best way to see would be to push those 2 files from a Nexus into an ICS or Jellybean 4.1 device and see if it can run it,then do the check for the bug ( I dont have the Nexus system dump myself to check but Ill be happy to test it if you can upload the 2 files here )
Sound like that's just the stock on that I thought no has the bug

Easy way to tell get a 3rd party kB from play .... You shouldn't have it then

Dont have a 4.2 device here dude Have a tiny Xperia U with 4.0 Since the Keyboard works without issue for me, it should be 4.2.. Again, yo'll have to wait till someone with a 4.2 device checks it out (Or till someone takes pity on me and gifts me a Nexus ) Sorry I cant be of much further use for now
Ps : Saw your post in App Tester Index. Maybe give an update there to situation to get a faster test done ?
bug
I think I also noticed another bug already!!
it at 1 day and a half blocks and user must remove the battery to restart. happens every 2 days + / -.
The you guys already did that happen?
google tradutor
yeah i have noticed this issue with the keyboard as well on 4.2.1. i cant stand it lol
Yes. It happens on my Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus.
can confirm it.
Confirm on my GN with Yakju 4.2.1. But not sure this is a bug on 4.2.1 or 4.2 only or it's generally on all Android.
I tried it on my Android 4.0.4 with the Jellybean 4.2 keyboard. And no issues, so its limited to 4.2 or 4.2.1.
Whenever the keyboard opens in 4.2 there's a huge delay before the app resizes. In 4.1 and 4.0 it would do it immediately. In 4.2 it waits like a half a second. This may be part of the issue. This alone is kind of annoying. It occurs on third party keyboards as well. It has to do with 4.2 and not the keyboard itself.

It works fine. Please do not comment if you are unsure of things, because you can start a huge row for developers.

It works perfectly for me!

Really? Can you run Spotify and navigation side by side?
I was able to get it working also.
Folks should be aware that it is very difficult to use the CWR tools to get rid of it again at this time, though you can do it manually via ADB.
Also that Odin recovery does not wipe out installed apps, which I did not know and am happy about. (I tried changing dpi using a different one of the Xposed modules; it did not work and my phone bootlooped. I had the uninstall around, but was not able to install it via CWR.)
The multiwindow one works nicely. There's also an app in the play store that works for enabling multiwindow view for many more apps.
I don't use Spotify so I don't know about that one in particular.

It's very similar to multiwindow manager, honestly. MWM is a little funky in that the app itself doesn't know that the Note 8 exists yet. I think I told it I was using a note II and it let me add whatever I wanted to multiwindow mode.
The one thing I have not tested yet with the new way of adding multiwindow functionality to the device is the camera. With MWM running, if multiwindow mode is enabled the camera locks up the device.

I haven't tried the camera yet while using it but I don't take many pix with a tablet. For MWM to work you have to disable the patch it mentions when you launch it first. Other than that it works with all my apps. I also love multi touch gestures app.Update just used the camera with no issues. First time I tried it. Pretty good image for a tablet.
I'm using the Xposed method and while the camera doesn't fc there is apparently no shutter button. In fact I'm typing this from one window with the camera in the other.

And I have to admit that this is far from my go-to camera - but occasionally I'll launch the app accidentally or on purpose, and it'd be nice to not have it hink out on me.
The fix for me has been to disable multiwindow mode in the system preference, and that may well work for the Xposed mwindow modification as well.
Xposed is a framework with developer interest from the companion Samsung devices and it may allow for other things to arrive fairly quickly on the device, before a full rom is ready.
This is awesome; I'm definitely going to be getting one of these for my dash install later this year
For any office jockey types like myself that use a desk dock, I highly recommend checking this app out --> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.droidcontrol.takecontrol&hl=en

In essence, your Note 2 just becomes another screen that you can slide your cursor over to and interact with the phone.
I'm in no way affiliated with the app or developer but I posted here because the developer seems to have abandoned the project and I'm hoping for some suggestions/alternatives from XDA.
I was using RootBox on my Note 2 and both the app and ROM worked beautifully... used it over the course of a week and fell in love with both of them.
Long story short, I badly needed (two-way) call recording which I simply couldn't get working on RootBox despite trying Xposed framework, system files, apps etc. so I reverted to Alliance 4.1.2 which is a compromise relative to RootBox BUT call recording is crystal clear...
So what's the problem?
TakeControl no longer works nicely on the TW ROM (only works in the upper 720px region as per the image below) and the developer doesn't seem to be responding... :crying:
And what am I asking?
1. Can anyone suggest a reason why this might be the case and if there's a workaround?:fingers-crossed:2. If not, does anyone know of a similar app that works? And I'm not talking something like SnapPea and variants

For remote controlling my phone, I use teamviewer. Samsung has a partnership with TeamViewer to allow you to remote any Samsung phone using either your own phone or the pc version on TeamViewer.
Install this on your phone - TeamViewer QS
and install the PC piece - TeamViewer PC
It works pretty good to controlling your own phone and if your parents need remote help with theirs.
