Hi, guys.
Have a problem with my Evo 4G.
It's S-OFF, rooted, and have custom recovery (made my unrevoked). There was also MIUI (different versions) as a firmware for more than a year.
Few days ago while laying on the table Evo just became rebooting in a cycle. After battery remove nothing changed. Just showing HTC Evo logo and then vibrate one time and reboot to the same logo and so on.
I've tried to wipe the phone from a recovery, phone just halted until battery remove. Evo just lied for about a week, than i tried to do wipe once more and that worked and after reboot everything was working, but in a few days reboots came over again.
But now i can't even enter the recovery mode. I choose "Recovery" in bootloader and getting Logo + vibrate again and again.
Is that a death for my Evo or i can try some methods to revive it?
PS: there were no programs installations prior to reboots happen. Phone just lied on the table for a few hours or at night.
Updated hboot to the latest 2.18. unlocked it.
Flashed clockworkmod with bootloader (PC36IMG method), also amon ra with "fastboot recovery". With no luck. Can't enter the recovery.
Tried installing RUU, everything fine... except it doesn't boot anyway...
Any other way to try?
I've tried:
1) Remove battery then insert and wait until it charges, then try to power on.
2) Update hboot and re-root it (it was S-OFF, but still made lock off)
3) Re-write recovery, tried clockworkmod and amon ra with hboot update and with fastboot
4) installed RUU (and it passed without any troubles)
5) "Clear storage" from hboot
what else can i try to revive my Evo ?
While I haven't seen this in awhile, you can do a search and see that this isn't a totally rare experience. It's possible you have the same issue other phones have had with bad partitions (Not on the SDCard). If so, it's basically a brick

Yeah, it does sound a lot like the infamous bootloop of death.
You may not have any options. Unless you want to send it to me. I doubt I can do anything with it, but I'm always willing to try.

hello,
I have a boot loop issue going on right now leaving my phone useless at the moment. Here is the issue....
This morning I flashed * update-cm-6.1.0-RC1-Supersonic-signed * and proceeded to backup all my apps and system data from a previous Titanium Backup batch backup. During the backup, the phone rebooted and now I'm in a continous bootloop only displaying the white HTC Evo 4G logo. The screen comes on for a few seconds, then turns off and reboots again in a continuous cycle.
I have pulled the battery and held down power and volume down button. In this white boot screen when I try to get into recovery, it goes to the white HTC Evo 4g splash screen and into continuous reboots again.
Here is my set up.
SUPERSONIC EVT-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-2.02.0000
MICROP-041F
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16AC
RADIO-2.15.00.09.01
OCT 14 2010, 19:14:47
I used Unrevoked 3.21 to root EVO
When plugged into computer, the phone and the computer recognize each other but I cannot see the phone in my computer and also not seen in device manager. I tried this and was unsuccessful... * Stock 3.30.651.2 PC36IMG.ZIP Format *

Anyone know what is going on and how to fix this ?
Thanks
You might have a bad sdcard. Try to see if you can go into recovery.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I had titanium backup restarting my rom.
(My post from when that was happening.
Mine didn't get stuck in a boot loop though.)
Turned out there was a problem with BusyBox Versions.
Boot into recovery,
Restore nand backup,
Get BusyBox Installer from the market
Update to the same version you used to back up with.
Not sure if that will help, but it fixed my reboot issue.
Remember Hold Vol Down THEN press the power button.
I have tried to access Recovery but when I select it, it reboots to the white HTC evo 4g screen and goes back into that continuous screen reboot...essentially going no where towards booting anything.
Armon RA recovery BTW
is there a PC36IMG that I can put on the sd card to boot from? I dont care about having to re-root if necessary.
Thanks

Found this thread.
I've never used it though.

you remembered to wipe your data & cache & dalvik right?
Edit: Sorry I misread your post, try taking out your battery and sitting your phone in front of a fan to cool it off. If that helps odds are you have one of the defective radios and need a new phone.
I have tried 3.30 + Clockwork PC36IMG as described above...no luck.
My computer doesn't recognize the phone via USB. The only thing I can think of is to use HBOOT USB ?
Like I previously mentioned in the first post, everything I try results in that continuous bootloop.
The only thing that has produced some results was an PC36IMG but didn't boot the phone or restore the recovery option.
Hi all. First let me begin by saying I'm NOT new to rooting and I have a pretty good knowledge of what I'm doing.
Here is my problem. I WAS rooted before, and used Rom Manager/Clockwork to preform Nandroid backups etc.
I recently received a replacement EVO (cracked housing) and wanted to root again, which I have, with SU permissions and S-OFF using the latest version of unrEVOked. (this is after the December update to 3.70 with hboot 2.10) No problem with rooting, however when I want to do a nandriod back up, thru Rom Manager, (or alternative methods) I get stuck on the white EVO boot screen. I CAN NOT boot into recovery? Weird right?
EDIT: When I try to enter recovery in any fashion, it hangs on the white EVO screen...forever until I do a battery pull.
EDIT: Sorry, I CAN enter bootloader, however once there, I attempt to enter "recovery" and it bounces me back to the menu. This happens both via ROM Manager and the traditional way of "POWER" button and "Vol Down".
EDIT (again): Okay..I used Amon RA to preform a nandroid back up,(which worked) and now I'm stuck in a bootloop! Ugh! Trying to restore my Nanadroid backup using RA..hopefully that works and I can revert back to Clockwork.
Jesus...
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Let me know what you do to fix it. I'm just going to put the 3.7 RUU on sd card and restore to default? Here is the link. Hopefully this works.

I have the exact same problem!!!! I cannot boot into recovery! It throws me back to the main hboot screen. It freezes when I try to do a recovery and I need to return this stupid phone because it keeps freezing and re-starting on it's own and I've tried flashing the oem rom many times already. I have "s-off" and Sprint will know I've rooted the phone ... please help!!
I just get stuck with the evo screen but like all of you i can not get to recovery... any ideas
Do you guys have working ROMs on your phones and just can't get into recovery? Or can you not boot up at all?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G with Tapatalk
Looks like your recovery didn't flash. Put this file on the root of your sdcard, boot into the bootloader and select yes to update, the reboot. This installs CWM 3.0+.
I'm in a similar situation after initially using Unrevoked, and I've tried flashing AmonRa and Clockwork from a PC36IMG.zip. Neither has gotten me a recovery screen.
Beyond that I can't seem to get a ROM to boot more than once. I can install ROMs with varying degrees of success, but invariably a reboot leads to the phone simply hanging at the white HTC EVO 4G screen. Flashing a new ROM generally works. Once. But then I'm constantly afraid of my phone rebooting for any reason, and I know it'll mean that I have to wipe the bastard and start all over again.
Any suggestions on the recovery issue? Perhaps fixing that will fix my reboot problems.

Try installing clean, wipe everything. With TB, backup the apps, ect. When you restore, restore only apps and data, not system settings.
Just to be sure I 'wipe everything' properly, which steps are you suggesting? Should I choose Clear Storage from the bootloader menu?
Just for clarification, I've tried to RUU several times and it has not fixed the issue.
I just used a modified HBOOT to allow me to erase my recovery, system, and userdata partitions via fastboot. After that, I flashed AmonRa 2.3 in Bootloader and it worked! I now have a working AmonRa recovery. I'm attempting to flash CM7 now, and I'll let you know if that works.
I can't take credit for thinking of this, I used someone else's guide, but I'll happily post the software and the steps if people are interested.
The fix was apparently temporary. The attempt to flash CM7 led to my Evo hanging at the white screen after rebooting.
The only way I've managed to boot into a ROM is pretty crazy... I flash the 3.70 RUU from a PC36IMG.zip version at bootloader, then I flash clockworkmod, then I flash SprintLover's ROM. If I flash in that sequence, I can get SprintLover's to work, but it will hang at the white evo 4g screen if I reboot. It's insane!
Anyone have any advice? This **** is bananas.

What I have done so far:
(the good):
#1 I used the "clear storage" from hboot and it works.
#2 I re-flashed "RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed" from my PC via USB and this works too! It gets the phone back to factory settings wiping out everything and booting up normally.
(the bad):
#1 The phone still freezes and turns off sporadicly.
#2 I have lost root BUT the HBOOT screen still shows security is off (S-OFF) so still I cannot return the phone to Sprint!
(the ugly):
#1 From the "HBOOT" screen I choose "FASTBOOT" which takes me to the "FASTBOOT" menu, from there I choose "BOOTLOADER" and it throws me back to the "FASTBOOT" menu creating an endless loop.
#2 From the "HBOOT" menu I choose "RECOVERY" and it re-starts but it than freezes at the white HTC EVO 4G screen. I then have to take the battery out to re-boot the phone. Again another loop!
Any Ideas or any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever Jump down to Q&A and download the S-ON tool. You need to load up a recovery image, CWM or amon_ra and flash that ^ then re-run the 3.70 RUU and you should be set.
I was running Liquid Metal, and wanted to to flash to RC 2.1
Earlier that day i "upgraded" to the latest CWR.
however, the CWR did not work via rom manager,
so i attempted the VOL DWN plus POWER.
the HBOOT worked, but the RECOVERY did not.
it would go to a black screen, with white bars on both sides.
and it would stay like this.
i attempted to simply reboot, but it would be stuck on the HTC INCREDIBLE screen.
any ideas? i think i flashed CWR wrong, and thats the issue.
i want to simply be able to boot my phone, etc.
I had a similar problem yesterday and when it was stuck on the screen I pluged in my USB and ran reflash_package.exe from unREVOked.
That fixed the problem, and I was able to wipe and reload a new rom.
All good now.
how exactly did you do this?
I get the error "Failed to Push. Terminating"
The white bars on the side means the recovery is incompatible with your screen type (I'm betting $5 you've got an SLCD screen). As for it not booting past the splash screen... I'm not exactly sure what would fix that... :/

Two notes:
1) If you can get into HBoot, your phone is almost never bricked.
2) As someone said, CWR 3.0.0.8 has fixed the SLCD problems.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970032
for CWR info and optimal install procedures.
i am new to the forum and i am looking for some help i have a htc desire unbranded and it is stuck on the htc splash screen it is on hboot 0.93 and i have tried downgrading but it keeps coming up main version is older i can get into fast boot but not recovery i have been reading a lot of threads but cannot figure it all out as there is so much information i'm chasing my tail tail lol if anybody can help me i will be very grateful.
Why are you trying to downgrade? You could use an RUU as a quick fix but it will wipe everything. You haven't given any details of what you tried to do or are wanting to do.
i believe i have to downgrade to hboot 0.83 to get the phone to work but im not sure i have tried a lot of ruu's but cant seem to find the right one i'm very confused by it all to be honest i'm stuck as to what to do
It would also be helpful, if you used a little bit more correct grammer (putting punctuation between each sentence) as much as possible. Some of us, can't understand what you're talking about. This isn't FB or an sms
Also, it would help. if you said exactly what you did, and how you got into this situation. Ie; flashes, etc.
For example, are you rooted? Were you trying to flash a custom ROM?
htc stuck on boot up
Sorry i am not the greatest writer. I was on 2.1 and upgraded ota to 2.2.then the phone started resetting itself. before not booting altogether.i am currently on rom image 2.29.405 hboot 0.93 .and thats as far as i know.
htc stuck on boot up
The phone just hangs on the white htc screen.and wont go into recovery.
First of all, you have a desire. Before running any update, you need to create a Gold Card. It's not specific to "all" desires. But, better safe than sorry.
http://www.droid-den.com/android-guides/android-guide-how-to-create-a-gold-card
To boot into recovery the manual way, turn phone off.
Hold volume down, and press the power button.
This should boot to recovery.
If you get the Triangle, with exclamation mark,
press Vol Up + Power
This will bring you to another recovery menu where you can : Reboot , Flash from sd , Wipe Data/factory ,Wipe Cache
If you can recover the system, I highly suggest creating the Gold Card.
And one more note, if you decide to flash to a stock RUU, I highly recommend wiping all cache memories before flashing. Yeah, I know they will tell you that it's not necessary, but hey, I believe in overkill.
htc stuck on boot up
That's the thing it wont go into recovery, I can go into boot loader and fast boot but when i press up and power it goes back to the htc screen and hangs there again, i have tried a ruu which seemed to be successfull but it still hangs on the htc screen and will go no further.
If you can't get into any type of recovery, just how are you able to flash?
Bear with my stupidity here.
Without a menu system in any type of recovery, I am at a loss.
However, I have heard, that, some people put their phones in the freezer for several minutes. And that the phone would boot. Enogh where they col=uld goto recovery, and fix what they messed up.
Now, I would suspect it;s because the processor was overheating during boot. Probably because cache memories weren't wiped before flashing, and crap got all messed up.
Normally, I would never suggest this. And you do this at your own risk. So if it's messed up beyond repair, please, do not blame me,
htc stuck on boot up
I went into fastboot usb then ran the 2.29.405 ruu which completed successfully,i even extracted the pb99img.zip file and updated that way but still no luck, ill throw it in the freezer for 5 and give it a whirl, who knows might work. and thank you
The freezer thing, is a last ditch effort. And it is only a temporary thing. 15 minutes max. Maybe enough to allow you to clear caches and flash.
I have run out of expertise. So, I have nothing more to offer...
So I was running Cyanogen 7.0 for a couple weeks now and have tried a few others. I downloaded it with clockworkmod and everything was fine until I updated it to the newest one and while it was updating my phone died. Now it is just stuck in blue boot screen with the arrow going around and around. I tried Hboot but every one I pick including recovery, clear storage, and factory reset just gets me stuck on Dinc white boot screen. Trackball isn't responsive here so I us power and when I try to boot with up volume or both up and down with power it just vibrates a couple times and doesn't do anything. (I have to pull battery after this to Hboot or boot with stuck C& screen.) Please help! I have been reading so many threads on here and Cyanogens forums and everyone else seems to fix it with recover from hboot or clockwork recover comes up for them. I am very stumped. I have had a rooted captivate, EVO, and tried moto atrix and back to captivate before deciding to try out Dinc (and verizon)
I had that problem a while ago. I recall using the the in revoked program all over again. Hope that helps

the only solution that I would think can work on this case if going back to stock.. since you said you can get in the HBOOT.. you could be able to go back to stock and then reroot you phone again... I was on similar situation once I flash the alternative recover in RM... and I couldnt get to the Recovery and I had to go back to stock by putting the PB31IMG in the HBOOT to get it working..

Download the file and place it on your sdcard once you get to the HBOOT its gonna ask you if you wanna update.. then just vol - for yes and you are good to go...
Similar Problem
I am facing a similar situation with my Incredible. I was running CM7.0.3 when my phone randomly restarted but only got to the white "HTC Incredible" screen before looping over again.. and again..
I have tried loading the stock image (used the files from dougpiston site) as well as others through the HBOOT but I still cannot get past the "HTC Incredible" boot screen.
Is there something that I am missing? Does anyone else have a suggestion? I know it isn't bricked since I can still get to the HBOOT but I just can't seem to get it to boot an image. I did notice it is still "S-Off" if that matters.
If you cannot get into recovery and flashing a recovery from hboot doesn't work, you may need a new phone. This was mentioned in another thread somewhere recently.
Make sure your sd card is formatted to fat32.
