SDHC Class 4 or Class 6 for XPlay? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, im planning to buy a 32gb sdhc for my xperia play. I referred to this thread --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150369
Well its kind of an old thread. Is Sandisk 32 gb Class 4 still good for xperia play specifically for games? Im still waiting for the stores to sell class 6 cards in my place.. they only have class 4 atm.. should i wait for class 6 or should just buy class 4? and which is better? Sandisk or Kingston?

I think its already been discuss in the accessories section. Might wanna look it up.
Kindly Hit Thanks Button if i've help u in any way.

Kingston? You've got to be kidding me.

Troll somewhere else. Saw you on alot of threads and 90% of the time you just troll around and even discriminate people out of nowhere. Filipinos like you are the reason why people think every Filipino guy suck. Grow some balls and be mature.

What do u need it for?? Gaming or fast file transfer?? Its already been explain in the link u gav n the thread i ask u to look up had already shows a few people running it for their own personal reason. I personally like sandisk. As for the class i'd go for class 6. It kinda balance out the gaming n the fast file transfer. But thats me.

Loving my class 6 SanDisk

The thread i gave had class 4 as the winner but some guys say that class 6 sandisk is better and the posts were newer. Their phones arent Play either. As ive said, im gonna use it for gaming.. Is the difference from class 4 and class 6 really noticeable in games?

uh. no. you can check out the thread i gave on the first post. If youre goin to use it for games, that's not recommended since its goin to lag alot.

I purchased a 32GB Class 10 Micro SDHC card for just over $30 (USD) after shipping and it works great! Very fast and great price for the quality (make sure you buy it from the default seller "Amazon" because others MAY send out fakes but the real one is great.

WRONG!! Class 10 is VERY high transfer speed where as low numbers lag like s***
Trust me, I've wasted 20 bucks on a 32GB Class 1 SDHC card and it was so slow it's not even funny, and almost nothing could read the card either, out of 6 computers in the house AND a 3DS 1 computer could read it and the 3DS said that it was not fast enough and refused to use it at all. I don't know where you heard that high class cards lag but that's wrong as there IS a VERY NOTICEABLE difference in speed between the 8GB Class 2 the XPlay shipped with and a Class 10 card and the Class 10 is WAY faster.
Proof! and More proof!

Hav u tried any HD games yet?? I think the lag he meant is for gaming. Just curious.
Kindly Hit Thanks Button if i've help u in anyway.

Lag for any situation is EXACTLY the same based on the read/write speed of the micro sd card meaning games all lag if you have a low class card and are faster with a high class. The faster the read speed of the card the faster the game is regardless of the game.

What brand Class 6 SD card?

What brand of Class 6 SD card should I buy? I see TOPRAM, Transcend, and Nokia but not popular ones like Kingston and Sandisk..
According to this it says Class 2 SD cards might as well be as good as Class 6.

Class 2's performance-price ratio might be higher than Class 6. But only considering performance, I prefer Class 6.

Consider that the Sandisk cards may have a longer lifespan and be more reliable, which is a major plus point if you're going to be using the camera to take pictures of sentimental value.

Anyways, I haven't read all that great of reviews on the kingston class 10's. And for 100.00, I can get 2 of the adata class 6 16gb. I think I will pick 1 of those up next time newegg has them instock.
The 16gb sandisk class 2 that comes in the hd2 can drag the phone down if you don't format it once in a while.

Is this really worth the extra ~10$ ish than the sandisk 16gb? From reviews I have read the, average read/write speed on the sandisk CL2 is about 6.5MB/s which is what the CL6 is "rated for"

[Q] MicroSD card...is this a good deal?

Hello people,
I just came across this microsd card deal:
http://mobile.dailysteals.com/Default.aspx
this is samsung 16 gb class 2 micro sd card. But I am not sure if this is a good deal or not? can anyone tell me ?
Thank you,
Class 2 cards are SLOOOOW! I'd much rather spend a few bucks and get a faster one. I wouldn't get anything less than class 6, and usually go for the class 10 cards. Basically, the speed for a class 2 card is 2 MB/s, a class 6 is 6 MB/s, and so on.

Right: a Class 2's and a Class 6's speed-differences will only be apparent when copying files to the SD card from the PC.

Yes, that is a good deal. I paid USD$28 for my Sandisk just yesterday, and that was the best deal I could find (on eBay). Mine did come with a USB-reader, though.

Don't be fooled into buying a card on class speed alone - 16gb and 32gb class 6 are very pricey. If you mostly store movies and music on your SD card a class 2 is fine. Even for recording video on the phone, class 2 works fine.
If you are wiping your SD card or filling it with new data all the time, then maybe you want faster write speed - but I would rather save my $$$ for now. The same class 6 cards will be half price in a few months.

Now waiting for next best deal, at least now I know that just for storing music and vids class 2 is fine !
Go over to G1 forum and search this. Not sure what our phone's max read/write speed is but I am sure its similar to HTC devices- Class 6. You can spend the money on the class 10 but its useless for mobile devices.
Also, some say its only for pc -read/write- not 100% true. however, maybe for our particular phone....
For example- on the dream you can use your SDcard as a swap file placing an EXT2/3/4 partition on it. The class 6 has better performance and longer life than a class 2- i dont recall why exactly but you can easily google it. It was something about after so many read/writes it will burn out the SD but there is more technical factors to it. It has to do with bit allocation and spreading the writes over the card as to continual writing to the same spot- IIRC(dont quote me on that I havent thought about this in a looong time). Now, as this pertains to our devices- well it doesnt really since we dont utilize SDCard swap files and such for our devices. So talking in a circle, I guess for our situation it does only relate to PC writes..
^o hai thx

micro SD card

I can't wait to chuck my iPhone for my first Android!
Maybe I'm being too anal here but which micro SD cards will you be using?
Will a Class 10 be significantly faster than lower classes?
How are lesser name brands like Memorette? I'm looking through eBay and these are much cheaper than SanDisk and Lexar.
I prefer sandisk over other brands as had bad experienxe with lexar but its just me.
And yes class 10 would be faster.
...although Class 2 will likely be fine for every purpose in the phone, I'll be testing my Class 2 Sandisk 32GB with mine in my review for Clove's blog.
Got a Joyflash Class 10 16GB got it for less than £18 and speeds exceed over Class 10 on read and write very good for the price.
How does it benchmark? Would be interested to see some crystal disk numbers for it...
I'd tend to advise sticking with Sandisk myself...

This is the one I have: Big thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000894
Pretty nice benchmarks, although for smaller and random writes the speeds drop off a bit (these are closer to actual in-phone use, with the exception of large sequential read/write things like video recording). The 512k write test is slower than my Sandisk Class 2 card, so its not all peachy, but for the price that looks like a steal - I suppose they don't make 32GB cards?

That looks sweet but I have no idea how to purchase that as I'm in the U.S. The only ones I see are the 8GB version on Amazon.co.uk and the one from eBay but they don't seem to ship here.

Do they even have a 32GB?

So does anyone know what class speed is optimal for this phone?
For original galaxy s users, was there a plateau in speed reading/writing after a certain class/
Bought a "ADATA Turbo microSDHC 32GB" (http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a610468.html) and it seems pretty fast. Testet with a kingston usb reader (http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a432624.html).

Thats the question I want to answer. Its fine for 720p video recording, since I use it in my SGSI right now, whether its still good enough for 1080p is the question. The Class 2 Sandisk writes at 5.5MB/s for sequential writes, which may still be enough for 1080p. Will know soon enough one way or the other.
I'm considering a 32gb Class 4 Sandisk from eBay, but don't really want to buy it until we've worked out if it's going to be suitable. I imagine it'll be fine, but still...
From Ebay? You're sure its genuine? I don't see Class 4 Sandisk cards listed at Sandisk's own website, or at any of the retailers they link to...

Fairly sure, but as always not 100%. The seller in question sells masses of SD cards and they're quite well known for being legit. Plus a few people on other forums have bought them and vouched for them.
Still, can't be certain though

Which micro sd card do you suggest to buy?

hey
Which card should i buy?
Which class is the internal memory?
Do i need class 10 card?
thnks.
I have a 16 gig class ten and it made no difference on my N1 compared to the stock class 4 card as far as performance goes with apps2sd and the like during operation. It also made no difference transferring files to or from the sd while in the phone. It is much faster if you take it out and plug it into the laptop though. I'm not sure if that limitation applied to the N1 alone or is common with this one. I was thinking of getting a 32 gig because then I could carry all my music and wouldnt have to hassle with it as the internal storage is enough for all my other uses. Knowing what I know now I will likely go with a name brand class 4 card. Too many horror stories with fake cards and my own experience is that the extra speed from class 10s doesnt do much of anything in my usage.
If you do a search you will find several recent threads on SD cards....
You don't need class 10! because this is not a super professional camera. Class 4 is enough (in some case even class 2 is enough 'cause some people say that class 2 speed of some manufacturers is faster then class 4 of other ones).
I have ordered SanDisk class 4 32gb and still wating for delivery...
Choose only good manufacturers, such as: SanDisk/Trancerd/Kingston/A-Data (and before doing an order, check on their official website (and google a lil' bit) if the particular class exist - for example if you will see class 2, 6 or 8 of Kingston on ebay, know that it's a fake since kingston has only 4 and 10 classes according to their website)
I don't know if this is only in the Netherlands but here its possible to get a 8GB micro sd for FREE from Samsung when you registrate your purchase on the samsung site. (only condition is that you buy your device before the end of may)
On my camera I've had issues when recording hd quality movies in anything less than a class 6.
So I'm going for class 6 or above on phone

Which card did you get? Im looking for the cheapest sandsik 32 gb right now, sandisk's are underrated. a class 2 can be faster than a other brand class 4 or 6.
if you google "SD class speeds " the second link down (this is applicable to micro sd as well gents)
it will show you what class you will need for what application eg recording 1080p on your phone will require a class 4 minimum however class 6 is "moar" recommended
however as stated above class 10 isnt needed and if you read a few reviews some class 6 in the case of sandisk e.g. the sandisk extreme class 6 III is faster than some cheapo class 10.

micro SDHC class
so, can somebody please confirm that class 4 micro SDHC card (good brand) is enough for taking videos on GS2? I am looking at 32GB and it seems there is a shortage of class 10 cards in my country, should I buy class 4?
I believe the semi official numbers for 1080P recording on the SGSII is 17Mbps? That means a bit more than 2MB per second. 'Class' refers to how many MB's the card can write each second, so class 4 should be fine for 1080P, as well as many class 2 cards. But of course faster is always better
I bought a class 2 32 gb from amazon.it...
Can you suggest me a program / tool to test its speed?
Anyway, I used it to record a full hd video for 15 mins. I watched it entirely and I didn't notice any skipped frame or stucks etc.. It runs fine
Just plug in to a pc and copy a large file. That will show you the speed.

Have a look for h2testw Version 1.4. It's a free utility that will test capacity and speed. As you may know, the problem with lots of card on sale is that they have been hacked to make it appear that they have a greater capacity than they actually have. It can be sometimes hard to spot but h2testw (and, no doubt, others like it) will do proper checks.

It's not all about the class rating.
Nothing can beat the Sandisk cards on random read and write speeds.
I just bought 2 for 18.48 each..thanks for the tip!
As fast as this phone is, it doesnt matter what class card you use; also, just tweak the read ahead speed with rom toolbox or one of the other programs that tweaks that, and you will never know the difference between a class 4 and anything else...

Not know the difference? There is a Huge one...especially when your copying things over to it. Class 10 all the way.

Seems like a good deal. Might have to jump on a 32gb card in the next couple weeks. Don't think I will ever use that much space but I guess I could use it to put some movies and tv shows on my phone.
