Uncapping 3g on gnex - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is it a bad idea to uncap my 3g network? Is there a negative outcome for this? I want to be sure before I use it. Any insight would be great thank you.

So i came back

After trying out the note i must say i missed the speeds on 4g the note is fun and all but pretty useless on data for some of us tmobile users , saving for sg3 or tmobile "note"

Yeah, rumors are the T-Mo Note is around the corner however I'll just hold on to my SII for a while. Since I've got an iPad and the SII I really have no desire for the Note.
Yeah its a cool little device but its not worth giving up the awesome speeds we get on this , ill miss the note so i know i will for sure get any pjone with a plus 5inch screen that runs on tmobile 4g

I'm confident that the modem from the new T-Mobile Note will not help us, it's a hardware issue, otherwise I wouldn't be able to get these results with the Blaze modem.

Prl

Ok so I've seen alot of talk about prl and I wanted to see I'd changing mine would improve my data speeds. My current prl is 25006. I live in southeast Georgia in the 31313 zip code. If someone could drop me a easy link to detailed instructions I would appreciate it. Also would changing my prl give me 4g currently its not offered here. Thanks in advance

No, changing PRLs will not get you 4G as the infrastructure is not yet active, and roaming on Verizon won't give you LTE.(At least from what i understand)
Cool can it offer faster 3g speeds?

People reported faster 3G speed on Verizon towers.
A simple search in the above search bar could point you in the right direction
Edit: I noticed you're on the mobile app. let me search for you.

As long as it is a GSM Nexus, then yes. They use either ATT or TMobile towers.

You could try and flash it to cricket, boost mobile, Virgin mobile, page plus, etc. Some people have seemed to get it to work.

Yes you can bring any AT&T or T-Mobile compatible device to Straight Talk. Just choose at the time of order whether you want AT&T or T-Mobile service. The GSM GNex can do either one.

Basically those are your two options. Considering you won't get LTE when you leave Verizon, and its a huge hassle to flash, I'd just sell it buy a GSM model and put it on a GSM prepaid carrier. Faster speeds and less hassle on your end.

Is it really a huge hassle? I've never heard of anyone doing it

Ya its a big hassle when compared to just buying a Straight Talk (or any other carrier) SIM and just putting it in the phone.
Not to mention that on Cricket you'll be stuck on EVDO 3G, which is quite slow often.
Where can I check out gsm pre paid cards? Are these expensive and have 4g speeds?

I have at&t straight talk and I get hspa+ speeds a lot. Some people call it 4g. I would consider it like 3.5g. But I can pull like 4Mb down, which is fast enough for me

Check out the massive prepaid thread. Popular options right now are T-Mobile Monthly 4G, Straight Talk, Simple Mobile and Net10.

You get HSPA+, the faster-than-normal-3G connection. Plenty of info out there about it. No LTE on prepaid carriers just yet. The GSM Galaxy Nexus doesn't have LTE either way though, so the only way you'll get LTE is to go Verizon (or Sprint lol).
Speeds will be dependent on your area and network saturation. YMMV, I'd expect 2-7mbps down / 1-4mbps up.

Post your Galaxy Nexus speed test

I didn't see a thread like this for the Galaxy Nexus so I'm sorry if there is already. But I was just wondering what kind of speed test everybody is getting in different areas on 3 or 4g, no WiFi, I know everywhere will be different but let's see what we come up with who knows maybe we'll learn something, so I will start. Here's mine from Detroit Michigan, I'm using aokp linaro with tiny kernel, and lets see your speed in mbps

T-Mobile at its finest
"And now a moment of silence, let us pray And as you journey into outerspace may the angels help to lead the way may the prayers that our families made shine up on your soul to keep you safe And all the homies that done passed away They there to greet you as you pass the gates And as you headed to the tunnel's light I hope it leads to eternal life We say the prayers"

LTE and the GS 3

Is there any way to enable this on the Galaxy S3, or is it even faster? I just want my data speeds faster. Thanks in advance for any help. I live in the Orlando, Fl area.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
This has been discussed at length, you will NOT get LTE, unless you have the LTE Variant, SGH-T999L.
Read the first few posts of the modem thread for possible ways to increase data speeds.
