Hello my long time friends. I use to have the Evo4g but have moved on. However I gave my sister in law my old OG.
I'm running in a weird situation I didn't run into when I was sporting the device. She was running mikg with a partioned SD card and DT installed. When she put a brand new SD card it froze. So eventually I got it back to stock and are rooted it. Now whenever I flash a rom it gets stuck at the splash forever. Can anyone shed some light?

Perhaps a format of new card and partition it via recovery. Stay in recovery, connect to computer, mount with usbms option, (AmonRa), Download new rom, transfer to sd card, unmount phone, wipe all except sd 3 times, flash rom again.
I had the same problem. Changend sd cards and repartioned and it fixed. it

Yesterday I picked up a replacement evo. The replacement was a brand new phone, not a refurbished.
Sprint swapped out SD cards at the store from my old evo to the new one and had issue starting it. Phone froze up a several times before he could see if it made phone calls.
I fully charged it and updated prl and profile and still had constant reboots and freezes.
So I rooted my phone to see if a different rom would help and I'm still having the same issues.
My question is, do I need to maybe format my SD card? If so do I need to save any files and folders?
Also I'm currently running cm6, do I need to unroot and put the default rom back on?
Thank you.

I think the cleanest method would be to unroot and put the original ruu on the phone. Either way you should back up your sd card on your pc so you dont loose any information.

What files if any do I need to put back on the SD card?
Or do I just format it and restart the phone

Just your personal files.....any files needed for re-rooting can always be downloaded again....additionally, you don't want to assume the method you used to root your old phone would be the same way for your new one...

So if unroot my phone and go back to the stock rom, I can then proceed to format my SD card and my evo will still boot?
I don't need to transfer over any system files or folders?

I have a similiar issue where my evo is not reading my SD now. Tried to backup and retore nandroid and it would never complete. I am assuming the SD may be damaged, however when I boot into recovery it reads everything that is on the SD when I go to flash ROM from SD. I would like to format and see if this is the problem, but will that erase the rom i am currently using?

Formatting your SD Card will do nothing to your ROM

Yes, your phone will still boot. Do not transfer over system files or folders, just transfer pictures/video/etc. from your SD card to your computer, unroot, run the RUU (DO NOT RUN THE 2.3 RUU YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ROOT), then format your card. Oh, and do not accept the OTA Update they are pushing.
Or, you could format it in recovery and see what happens. If you are using AmonRa, go to Wipe ---> SD Card. (Remember - transfer your files to your computer)
I need help, a friend of mine has a mytouch slide that was rooted but he flashed the wrong rom using rom manager. He flashed a htc hero rom by mistake. This rom boots it up but the wifi, bluetooth, calling as well as the mounting of the sd card don't work. I then tried to flash it back to stock using esprimg.zip on the bootloader. It loads but once it gets to the part where it checks it, it suddenly stops and goes back to the options on the bootloader.

Try deleting the esprimg.zip file from root of sd card. Get phone into clookwork recovery and flash new rom. Make sure you wipe first.
That's the thing, the phone isn't mounting or detecting the sd card. Which means that I can't access clockwork mod. So I resorted to esprimg.zip, and it loads fully but when it comes to the checking esprimg.zip part, it just goes back to the bootloader screen instead of asking to update or not.

Download a new rom from the dev section here.
Put rom on SD card through sdcard reader on PC
Boot into clockwork and flash new rom

Mounting the phone to the PC isn't the root problem. He can't get the phone to detect the SD card at all so how is he suppose to load a ROM from ClockWorkMod?
@OP, so hboot picks up that there is a ESPRIMG on the SD card and then fails the check or does it not even say that it's detecting the ESPRIMG?
It detects it, then fails at the checking part

Since you say it wont boot. Try downloading http://de.codeplex.com/
If link fails its called droid explorer. Basically you can get into the memory card without it being mounted. Yes it needs to be pluged up but this should help. Even if it cant be read. And if the card cant be read using this then maybe its the memory card?
Do you have a 1gb memory stick or 4gb?
I fixed it, I loaded esprimg again and right after it loads and then fails. I go to recovery and aply update.zip, which then finally gets it into clockwork mod, thank you to all that helped and for those with the same problem, try it this way

I have been running Kings R5 for a few weeks and every day my phone would freeze up. I decided to put an old sd card in the phone and reflash and now it runs perfect... What would be the cause of this to happened?

Corruption. I suggest you reformat and repartition that particular card and put it back in and see how it goes.

did you try to reflash before or after replacing the card? Have you put the old card back in to see if there are any changes?
Ok, so this is probably a stupid question, but the last time I tried to do a factory reset on my phone and install and format a new sd card I ended up soft bricking my phone and I don't want that to happen again because I don't have a computer at my house. But...if I'm running stock JB 4.1.2 flashed thru odin, rooted, and I have TWRP installed can I change sd cards without a problem? Or, are there files on my current sd card that the phone needs to read the recovery or root or whatever? Thanks.

I may be wrong but I'd say you need your SD card with your recovery on it to be in your phone.. I've never really tried removing the SD card.. Good question tho.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was thinking but I needed a second opinion. I am wanting to switch sd cards bc I've got way too many pictures on it and I really don't have time to borrow someone's computer and sit down and go thru what I to keep, then organize them all and put them on disc....so I was hoping to just start fresh on a new card for now, but it doesn't look like it's gonna be that easy. So, would I have to put the new sd card in my phone then flash the recovery via odin? Or would I have to reflash the stock Rom or what? Any suggestions?

Just turn your phone off and switch SD cards. Nothing should happen to your recovery.
What about super user

I don't know what to tell you. I have no problem switching SD cards. Did it earlier today.
My guess would be to make sure to have either twrp or what ever recovery you use on the new SD card you want to use.

When you flash a recovery it is installed to your phones internal memory. Not to the external SD card.
I have been running the stock rom for 4.3. Sunday I saw a message saying that my SD card couldn't be read. I tried it in some at works phone and their phone couldn't read it. Now the new one every time I try to mount it I get the message that its safe to remove.
The rom has been on the phone for a few months now so I don't think its the rom.

Sounds like your SD Card may have gone south. You can try SD Formatter to see if you can save the card. Just be sure and backup all your information to your PC / Laptop before you format the SD Card.
SD Formatter 4.0
I just bought the new one Monday. I guess if that's it then I got a bad one.

Looks like it could be the phone. I tried to get a PC to see the internal and it won't even install the drivers.
EDIT: My PC can see the external SD I just bought Monday. I formatted it and every time I put it in the phone the phone wants to reformat it. If I plug the phone in it doesn't connect to the PC unless I set it up to connect as a camera and not a media device.
EDIT: Had to unroot and then go into recovery and format back to factory. That was the only way I could get it to work. Not sure what happened to cause it to do this.
