Warning Virus detected in toolkit - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

my AVG detected a trojan : SHeur.akpk in a few of the files in the GN toolkit.
I know at least for me its will be removed until the issue is taken care of.
**** ok let be be a little clearer the AVG is on my desk top not my G nex, D/L the toolkit to desktop then xfer to gnex...****
On a side note I find it a little disturbing that people will automatically dis-regard an anti virus alert because it warns of an android problem.
Am I paranoid if they really are after me?????

good day.

Gaining root is an exploit. That is why anti virus will pick it up as such. It's not harmful.
Sent From My Toro+ via RED Tapatalk

Should be obvious that root exploits will be picked up by AVs.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Except the GN toolkits doesn't use exploits, they simply automate the process of unlocking the bootloader and flashing a recovery and rooting...
However it's most likely still a false positive. This is why no one should ever use avg...

Superuser.apk itself can be flagged because it allows apps to gain elevated privleges. Trojans and backdoors do this as well.
Hence, some apps will flag it.
Same with toolkit executables.

Antivirus on Android...as useful as task killers.

If you're worried about this, please unroot your phone.

First of all, don't use the toolkit please use fastboot and adb manually since that has led chance of bricking then toolkit

What is this so called "anti virus"?

jesus, did you even bother reading the ENTIRE first post? it CLEARLY states that you need to disable your antivirus software when downloading it and using it because IT MAY come up with an AV error.
holy crap, how difficult is it to read?

I Think it may have something to do with hundreds if not more people using this tool kit with no issues. Plus is not like it's from some random user who has never put anything on here.

for the record the AV alert only occurred on the last virus scan. I've had the toolkit on my desk top for three months without an issue.

I got it as well and I noticed following difference:
All my music was gone and my phone asked me to synchronise with zune.
Same for my pictures and videos. All was gone; nothing was left on my phone.
//edit: unfortunately I have forgotten to backup my data. Some of the pics I can't get back anymore. What a pity. But honestly, I did not expect that would happen when I just load the updated HTC HUB via Market Place.
What can I say..? Would it be possible to release an update which makes me love my phone more?
P.S. Sorry, I don't like off-topic and since years I am just a member who is following your postings and take benefit of your experience, because I don't like to repeat what 100 other users have said before, but now I am really fed up with this stupid OS on my phone.
Further I thought I could save my first post for something greater than that

It's very unlikely that an app update caused this trouble. I have had these issues several times, but not due to updates (be they simple app or complete OS updates) but due to a hardware failure on my device.
I never heard that update did something like this no matter what OS it is!!!
perhaps the update included tagging location places?
For the first time it shows University at Buffalo as my location
Normally it just showed Buffalo

End up posting in wrong phones then have to keep getting the updates cuz it automatically subscribes me if i post to it and doesn't matter if i unsubscribe, they stay in my read tab and keeps it current. It's dumb
Agreed, this is not useful for developers. Any regular user will likely have the Java plugin installed, not just developers. As a Java hobbyist developer (not for Android), I'm obviously not going to uninstall Java. Uninstalling it would also prevent you from using ADB, which is undesirable.
However, I might disable the Java plugin from my main web browsers, assuming my version (I'm on Java 6, not 7) is affected, which so far I cannot find any information about one way or the other.
Plus, that article author (Emil) seems to be spreading FUD against Java, using words like "kill it with fire" and several times linking to his own blog posts as a source of information. Very unprofessional. His previous blog posts just one month ago were about two vulnerabilities - I just checked and they are already patched in my current version of Java (6 update 33). The auto-updater probably ran a week or two ago? Seems like Oracle is doing its job.
Exploits happen, this will be patched, and users should keep updated to protect themselves. Not much different from any other software.
Look, I was checking the news from the Google news app, saw this, and shared. Trying to help all the people that give us these kick ASS roms. There were multiple articles by different people. I chose the ones I felt had some useful information..like what to do if you must use it. I don't know how many of you have been straight nailed with a virus that leaves your hard drive in a r/o raw state..but it sucks ass. Was trying to give a heads up warning to the devs here. Not to tell them to disable java, but more of a heads up and if anything did start to get funky on their system, this could be a possibility therefore narrowing down where to look. If you don't agree...your opinion but others might find it to be useful so saying it's not is unnecessary. I personally find it useful for the simple fact sdk needs java. First thing it does on install is look for jre and if don't have it, it doesn't install. Can't develop if don't have the sdk.
Can't fault me for posting a security flaw, no matter what it pertains to.

[Q] So... Anything new on Smart Updates?

Still gotta DL the WHOLE app (eg. a 1GB game update) instead of just the new/replaced files that Google announced will be launched with the JB release.
Smart Update: http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/17/3248874/google-play-store-smart-updates-enabled
Anyone know what going on with that?
I don't know the technical details of the technology, but from what I read about it I assume it only works for changes in the APK. Games often contain a lot of graphic data, which probably renders this technique kinda useless
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I'm pretty sure they are already enabled but they still show as if you are downloading the entire file. So there is no way to know when they are put to use and how big the apk diff files are.
Busybox free uses it..and facebook 1.9.9 update too...
With the last updates it was finished within seconds..the download....
Interesting. So how does Google select which apps start using it? Or is it some kinda automated update adding apps to its list for Smart Update support?
Noo the devs of the apps must build it in aka support it

I'm pretty sure that isn't the case. Google automatically enables smart app updates for all (I presume) apps. This was said at the I/O conference that developers didn't need to do anything and personally I haven't seen any new API calls nor manifest lines that I need to add.

FWIW, I updated Dead Trigger the other day and it only downloaded around 500k of updated data... so, yea, it does work for games as well.
Again, it depends on the APK and the changes involved.
Something I noticed the other day: the progress bar on the Play Store was slow, and would cut off somewhere in the middle just before updating. If you want to see the real update progress, look in the notification shade.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I think its an switch that the dev must activate to use it
Yes..u r ri8...notification bar shows correct % of update where as progress bar shows size of kbs downloaded...

Yes, I have noticed this also recently. So I guess it was a slow rollout.
I have encountered several updates that use this. I remember Google saying that it is something that will happen automatically and not something that will require any changes on the part of the developers

So... My Galaxy S3 is now listed as a Galaxy Nexus

So... I plugged my Galaxy s3 into my desktop to sync music, no big deal right? It says "Galaxy Nexus"
I shrug it off because it's a fresh install of windows 8 so most likely it's just being dumb.
...
This is where **** goes down. Any time I plug my GS3 into my pc, windows UN-activates. I unplug it, and it activates on it's own. This is a known problem. apprently... But...now... my phone it's self shows as a Galaxy Nexus in "About"
Running Cm10 Stable. ...What the hell?
I look on the play store via the desktop browser to check out devices...and sure enough it shows a Galaxy Nexus. I try some random apps in the market that show device information...sure enough it shows Galaxy Nexus.
So...my question...is why did my Gs3 suddenly decide to be a Galaxy Nexus?

Alter your build.prop with root explorer (only thing I'll ever use for it)
open the ROM you flashed and look at the build.prop on there and see what it says. Should say SGH-I747. You can easily change it back but make sure you make a copy of the current one before you alter it.
ro.product.model=SGH-I747
ro.product.brand=ATT
ro.product.name=d2att
ro.product.device=d2att

It shouldn't. The only thing it will affect in the future with wallet is if you try to activate an additional card. Each time you need to activate a card for use on Google Wallet, you'll need to re-edit your build.prop back to the current nexus values.

Most people recommend Root Explorer's built in text editor. I'm not sure if it's free. I personally use the built in text editor in Solid Explorer. Solid has a 30 day free trial if Root Explorer isn't free. I wouldn't use anything other than those two. People have reported bad things with other text editors.

Oneplus 3 OTA update OxygenOS 3.2 - Strange occurrence

So I awoke this morning and rolled over to check the time on my phone and noticed that the OTA update for the Oneplus 3 had started downloading. Yayyy was my first thought, as I was of the understanding that Oneplus had started rolling out the 3.2 update for the phone and put a hold after being live for a mere 26 hours (due to an issue with the upgrade as far as I know) so I was happy to see that they had resumed the push for the OTA.
However my excitement was short lived as I soon realised that my Oneplus 3 was actually on the other side of the room and the phone I was in fact holding was my S7 Edge. So I let the file download (1.2gb) and popped it onto my computer and then over to my Oneplus 3 (A3000 Chinese model) where I was able to boot into TWRP, install the update and then reinstall SuperSU straight away for Root access.
Everything has since been running great, phone is now on 3.2 and Srgb mode is fantastic, however I'm left wondering how the heck the update suddenly randomly decided to download on my other phone. I have different sim cards with different carriers in each phone, and have the same Google account on each, however as far as I was aware Oneplus pushes the update to the specific IMEI number of the phone. I'm left scratching my head as to how this has happened :/ anyone ever seen this before?
Whoa, that is very whacky! Maybe it has something to do with that plain-text issue, ie. vulnerability, of the IMEI number being transferred in the HTTP header when the OP3 checks for OTA update?
That sounds like perfect case for MythBusters
Fake story. Thread can be closed.
Mate, just because it seems unlikely doesn't mean it's fake, it happened and I posted in here to see if anyone else had heard of this happening and was curious if it was a common occurrence. Judging by the fact it has been deemed 'fake' I assume it does not happen often.

Clearly you manually downloaded the full ROM file from oneplus or some other site on to the S7. This was NOT an OTA update. Fact because a) thats impossible, b) its the full file, c) its in your downloads folder, when any OTA will go to cache and be inaccessible by you without root and d) THATS IMPOSSIBLE!
Either you got confused, you downloaded it in your sleep, or you are just trolling!

It's not possible. OTA will never goto download folder. Could be a dream and you have taken it as reality.
THANKS for everyone's input, I had a laugh about the drunk part as I did take some sleeping pills the night before.
Have gone through my chrome history and found 11pm the night earlier (don't remember any of this) I was on an XDA thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...0-received-t3410714/post67599345#post67599345
And I guess have clicked on the link to the full ROM.
Boom, solved. And no I wasn't trolling, I honestly had no idea how it happened. Having a laugh now though. Anyways Cheers for the input, like I said I was curious if it had happened before and or if it were possible. It seems not.
