A few problems with 2.17 / 4.0.4
After i installed the update 2.17 i notice that my wifi is even worse. I have i good connection with my Dynalink D635 router. So i don't think it is a hardware problem. But wifi works just sometimes. It was the same with 1.29, but al lot beter Now i loses his connection and than it come back, but mostly there is no data-stream at all.
Also the GPS is not working fine anymore. Lost connection a the time. It was working fine with 1.29 .....
The radio (connection with G/3G/H) is also worse. And sometimes he lose my sim-card and even goes into flight-mode??
HTC, i dont know what you are doing over there, but i have to say that this product is absolutly not what i suspected. I waited for the 2.17 to give the product a second chance, but it is even worse
Basic question. Still, have you backed up and tried Factory restore?
recently my phone doesn't read the SIM after a few hours of use. Says there's no SIM.

agree with the first comment. Can't confirm yet WIFI performance but GPS is now really bad. It was working great on 4.0.3 same as WiFi

I do not agree. I'm also using 2.17 and everything with GPS and wifi is OK.
Have you installed the correct bootfiles also the Kernel for this rom?

I used only files from the instalation guide. No other modifications
CUSTOM ROMMERS
Just ensure you have installed the rom correctly, aswell as flashing the right boot.img for 2.17.401.2, then although it seems like a pointless task, please do well to include the command 'fastboot erase cache' before AND after the flash of the boot.img, just to be sure we don't have any kernel bits left behind. You could also go the extra mile and clear the dalvik cache in your custom recovery...
STOCK ROMMERS
You should ensure that your update was successful (check this in settings > about > software information) If the software version is 2.17.XXX.X
Then the update was successful, just double check your radio/baseband is what its supposed to be which is 2.1204.135.20 (i think)

I have a good question: Did you drop the phone recently or otherwise do anything to push the phone case down? It sounds like you crushed all the antenna contacts or your case just isn't seated right.
SIM losing contact would suggest that the SIM pins aren't fitted snugly against the SIM. You can either put tape on the sim to get to to fit more snugly or send it in for warranty repair.

I did not drop the phone, or did something strange with it. The only thing i want from a device that costs € 500,00 is that everything is does work.
I've have experienced a drop in mobile network signal after the 2.17 update. Haven't tested GPS but WiFi seems alright. I have not dropped the phone nor done anything unusual to it, just updated. Before, I had 5 bars/full signal all the time, and when I checked battery stats the network signal indicator throughout the day was green. Now, after the update the indicator is yellow and I have around 1-3 bars if signal.
Also, I'm in Denmark so I got the 1.29.xxx.12 update which was supposed to optimize signal strength. So right now I hope they are working on a similar fix.

The Custom ROMMERS part worked for me.
I had the same Problem. Just checked after a half hour and it still works.
Just try this method
Dear all,
I was using the Lee-droid rom. I switched to insert coin rom 9.xx and even tried the android revolution rom. In both I had the same problem. Using wifi I have almost no data although the signal is strong. It just keeps trying to synchronize like for hours. But for some reason whatsapp conncection works and no problems there, but when it comes to loading the play store it takes ages (5 min. plus). I already searched the internet for solutions but haven't found one. When I use my providers internet, it also just keeps trying to synch (and for some reason never seems to complete??) internet is also really slow and it used to be faster on mobile as wel as wifi. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I am really desperate to get this working, I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Edit: Confirmed that wifi does drop out sometimes and cant seems to get a signal although im standing right next to the router. But when I have wifi, I have a great connection, but almost no data, only whatsapp seems to work.
I can also confirm taht after the 2.17xxx update wifi is droping a lot. Didn't had that problem on 1.29. Also there are other issues but it will probably be best if I open a new thread or someone else does that, just for the sake that htc will read it and make our phones better

To me, your issues sound like radio related issued, although I could be wrong. You both on custom roms? With custom recoveries? I suggest if 1.29 worked better signal wise that you flash that radio in your custom recovery. That might improve your signal. Its basically different for everyone which radios work the best so basically it's trial and error.
Lemme know how you get on

I'm not sure if it's the same problem but i've been having a strange issue for a while. I believe is started when I began using jellybean roms (Not 100% sure). My phone will work for a day or two with no issues and then I just suddenly lose my gsm/3g connection. Numerous restarts later and if still doesn't work. Can't use it as a phone at all. If I reflash or change the rom, my connection works again for a few days and then then same thing happens. I'm having to reinstall roms every few days to have a working phone. I did have the pogo battery cover on for most of that time. Last time it happened, I removed the cover and I suddenly had a connection. I've left it off since, hoping it was just that but sadly not. Happened again to me just now

Hi, have you flashed any different radios? What's your current software version and does your Wifi drop as well? Or is it just mobile data?
After the 2.17 OTA update, the signal is always medium...but now there r no call drops or loss in signal

I got my 2.17 OTA update last night, immedietly after the update my wifi signal was dropping, which was pretty stable 3 bars before that.
Today morning im getting dropped gsm signal...sometimes its showing no signal...eve a manual signal search gets me no network, omly airplane mode on/off gets the signal back.
I m not unlocked and not rooted...just plain factory stock.
should i unlock it and flash the radio from the 1.29 rom ??

I have just spent an absolute age with HTC tech support, and the answer to the few that have been suffering with no data via wifi is................send your handset in for repair.
I honestly have completely lost the will to live, no matter what i say to try and convince them the issue is software related as i can use 2.2.1 absolutely fine, it seems to completely be over everyones head, i even spoke to a manager, who after listening to everything i said, who then spent 3 minutes in silence came back with "broken wifi module"
Arghh, they now want to book my handset in for repair, which i am reluctant to do as they quote a turn around of 20 days currently, i dont want to be without a handset that long.
all i want is gingerbread on my handset and be able to use WiFi, 3G works perfectly
Has anyone had any luck in solving this? its not a router issue, i have tried 4 different routers, its not a signal issue (i have a full signal, and its not dropping the signal), i have tried every 2.3.3 custom rom and stock rom out there and still no data Via WiFi, tried different radio's, and different kernels,
If i go back to using the Android revolution 2.3.2 beta, it works fine, so its defo since the 2.3.3 update.
any help from anyone would be so gratefully recieved i will buy you a pint!
Hi there,
Have you flashed the matching RIL's for your radios? A similar issue affected me but it was only with CM7 and ARHD. I flashed the radio in my signature (good WiFi performance for signal and battery life) and the corresponding RIL and all was working after a couple of reboots.
Hope this helps.
i have indeed pal, really really struggling with this.
A work colleague has just completed his OTA update at work, same issue,
at least i know its not just mine
im wondering if its something to do with the wifi driver in the ota,
Actually its not just the ota, tried the RUU just now, same issue
any Dev's got any clues?
Mate,
I´ve downgraded the ROM as per this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003), and now it is working perfectly. No need of gingerbread, I noticed that I do not need it anyway. Instead of that, my baby is alive and kicking againg.
Cheers.

im back on LeeDroid 2.2.1 custom rom and everything works like a charm, there isnt anything on gingerbread i need, but i want the option, i prefare the menu, but i can not be without WiFi. I have just sent HTC a humerous letter/email, i have spent hours on the phone with them today.
Sent LeeDroid a pm, see if he has any idea why this is, or if there is anyway to sort it
hopefully someone soon can come up with something, there are only a few of us with the problems, but even so HTC should release a patch or something to rectify it. A guy who has a T-Mobile branded device at work has updated fine, but myself and another colleague (both unlocked sim free devices from the carphonewarehouse) have the no data issue via wifi
i am losing the will to live
some people say drop data problem on Galaxy Nexus, it is related to radio/baseband issue, a lot of people recommend the following components
Radio/Baseband:
cwm-radio-i9250-xxla2 (latest radio from Google)
Kernel:
franco.Kernel-r158 (best kernel on market)
ROM:
aokp_maguro_build-35 (latest aokp rom)

I'm completely stock IMM76I, rooted and I sometimes get data drops.. this happens more frequently when I haven't rebooted my phone for several days. Sometimes the signal letter (H) disappears completely until I turn airplane mode on/off. Other times I see H but there is no data, only a reboot fixes it.
I'm using Tasker to auto-reboot the phone every day at 5AM, but this is gettig really annoying. I wasn't having any issues prior to that IMM76I OTA.

Noticed this was happening only when I was commuting on the highway, my phone loses data connectivity (albeit still showing 'H') and never gets it back until I reboot.
I'll try the set 700MHZ method and report back. But will increasing the min CPU from 350 to 700 hurt battery life a lot?

Based on my exp, you don't lose much battery life. I accidentally left the CPU at minimum 691 MHz and got similar battery life with 307 MHz as my minimum.

I just noticed I'm on the 4.0.1 bootloader. I'll flash the 4.0.4 one when I get home to see if I can finally get rid of this issue.
I tried flashing radios and RILs and it really hasn't helped...
I had similar issues though mine were mostly when leaving a wifi area my phone would not grab my cell data until I toggled airplane mode on then back off. Later I found out about GetRIL and discovered that most ROMs (due to being based on 4.0.4) have the XXLA02 RIL (Radio Interface Layer) while I was running the UGLC1 radio. GetRIL checks for you and allows you to flash the proper RIL (if rooted with busybox). I flashed the matching UGLC1 RIL and havent had a drop since

u say always the same response to everywhere...but its wrong (PRIMEKL03 doesn't exists..did u noticed?)
the suggested bootloader is the PRIMELA03..that page have just a typo (i asked to jbq and he confirmed the typo, he will update in future that page)
and EVERYONE have the correct PRIMELA03 bootloader
the signal issue is related to some bugs in the 4.0.4 roms
it happens randomly for some people in some network conditions..is like the phone is not able to get the data network...no way to solve this until a next update from google
the people that said "i solved by changing radio/rom/etc", just didnt test long enough to get the same problem again
if u (and of course lot of other people) don't have any network problem, then u are lucky living in a place where the network and ur operator are perfect...end of story
i'm not pessimistic, this phone is perfect, but will be really perfect when they will fix this...i had other android phones before this, and none had this problems...i know everything about radios, apn, networks..but there is nothing i can do to make it working fine ALWAYS..sometimes the mobile network works, sometime there is no way, even after a reboot, only moving temporarly to a different area solve the problem sometimes, even if signal was full bar

This question has been asked way too many times. I say the same response because it helps people solve this problem. The bootloader and radio configuration needs to be correct at least as a starting point and first step in trouble shooting. you assume everyone has the correct bootloader and radio, now that is just presumptuous. I'm so happy that you know "everything" about radios bootloaders and apns that is righteous! your post was very helpful, a great help thanks so much.

This is actually not true. I was on 4.0.4 but had the 4.0.1 bootloader somehow.
I haven't had a single data drop since flashing the new bootloader with XXLA02. The real test will be tomorrow, when I take my phone into work (big metal building). If I get no data drops at all tomorrow, problem fixed.
Hey There,
I've just installed this fine ROM today, and it seems great,
but for some reason, the wifi reception is BAD now.
It works fine if I seat near my router, but if I move 3 meters away
it looses the connection ... and says the reception is POOR.
Any1 else has this problem?
Which version of CM10 did you flash, if it's anything older than beta 1 try flashing Beta 1 ? if you still have problems after Beta1
Try flashing a different kernel and see if that resolves your problem. (if i can spare you some time, try faux123's kernel)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647993
And then if you still have problems.
Try running the Viper ROM 2.6.0 with the Butter hacks runs very smooth.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745176
Thanks for the quick replay
I flashed the "[08-09] [ROM] CyanogenMod 10 - Endeavor Unleashed" rom.
I don't think this is the same cm10 everyone's using.
and I don't really understand, doesn't the Kernal comes with the rom?
Can I change it without changing a rom ?

But on the stock rom WIFI was ok.
Update: Ok I did the "Squeeze" test. Wifi is great whn I squeeze
So it is a hardware problem?? How it only started after I put CM10?
Have you reinstalled the stock rom since you have the problem?
I don't know if CM10 is the cause, or it's a coincidence..
there's an UNOFFICIAL release at the moment which may fix some issues, though I've not noticed anything and I've had every release since A10 installed, so it could be a hardware issue.
I'm on the newest build of cm10 and my WiFi network is fine. I can from leedroid and so far just the same. I do have a tiny bit of earphone cable between my back and hard case which gives me my full bar due to the hardware fault.
Couldnt be bothered sending it back. So this works. Bit did recorded it with HTC so they know I have the fault.

(Although it really seems like an hardware problem,
I heard the latest stock update helps a little so there
might be a software solution)

But if you use Cm10 without that little earphone cable, the wifi won't work good?
BTW, what does htc support ask to fix the problem? Do they care you rooted and unlocked the device?
The cable is about 3mm in lengh and as i have a hard case, its enough to compress the connection inside the phone where the fault is.
Htc would of course fix it, but whats the point if the phone is working and its not noticeable.
I would have had to relock bootloader and go back on stock rom.

Problem is I can't get back to stock! from what I understand the Stock RUU for my phone wasn't released ...
Do you think HTC will be "understanding" and fix the wifi issue even with a custom rom?
(they'll know anyway that I opened bootloader)
Try flash the Rom with the stock kernel, that will surely solve the WiFi problem.

Did you not do a backup before installing custom rom. Im positive that even if you relock the bootloader they can see that if they went in to recovery. But unlikely. So if you flash stock rom and re lock bootloader, remove root you should be fine

Hi, try using tbaldens CM10. It can be found under HTC ONE X ORIGINAL ANDROID DEVELOPMENT. I found this to be the best CM10
I have been chasing this problem ever since installing CM10 on my Evo 4g LTE. I was getting 4 times the wifi distance on the stock rom. I go about 30 ft. outside the office and wifi drops. Also, what is the most annoying... I stream over our LAN, and when the screen is off, it turns wifi off after a few minutes. (and yes, the check box is checked to keep wifi alive). I've also tried all of the wifi fix apps and none work. If I leave the screen on and stream........ it is good anywhere from 1/2 hour to an hour, then it will just stop. This kills my battery of course. The problem 1st occured when I first bought my OEM 4g lte, but there was an option in the advanced menu "best wifi performance", after checking that, it worked great, then I switched to CM10 and I now have the wifi issue, and there is no option for "best wifi performance". I've tried a couple other jellybean roms and they have the issue as well. This is driving me nuts. I hope someone finds a solution. I don't think the average person would find this as a problem, but when I stream over the net and move all about the shop, it is unacceptable.
I faced the same issue but not on any other ROM. It was specifically with Cyanogenmod 10. I was upset because it gave me the best results but the wifi result was really poor.
However, since I work with wireless networks often, I decided to explore Cyanogenmod's wifi settings. I noticed that if you go in the Advanced Wifi functions (which you can find in the Wifi options menu) you will notice that there is an option called "Wi-Fi Region Code".
Apparently, this option allows you to select the frequency bands your device can operate and is subject to the different world regions. It is quite possible that your Access Point follows the regulatory body of your country and you should know which frequency bands they allow the AP to operate. Due to this it may be just that the Cyanogenmod, by default, put you in a different regulatory domain and limits your frequency band to a subset offered by the AP. Hence, this effectively limits your wifi reach even if you are sitting right next to the AP.
I chose "Japan" since I remembered that their regulatory domain allowed for quite a large subset of frequencies that are allowed on the WIFI spectrum. This immediately increased my received signal strength and I did not have any problem since.
I suggest you play with this, it is likely that your android device will start functioning correctly. However, if you are facing this limited frequency issue on more than one device and that too running different operating systems and different wifi hardware...chances are that your wifi router is malfunctioning. In that case, replacement or repair of the Access point is the best alternative.
Good luck. I hope this solves your problem.

I've tried changing my Region Code, but for some reason it keeps defaulting back to Europe... Any ideas? I've tried changing it numerous times, same result.
Hi there,
my girlfriend has some problems with the 3G connection of her HTC One V, hopefully one of you can help us
She´s using an o2 simcard in her One V. If the One V is powered on for some hours/mintues at a time it happens that the 3G connection isn´t working any longer?
You can still see the H(SDPA) / E(DGE) symbol in the topbar, but nothing is working?
If she turns off and on her mobile connection, nothing happens.... 3G is still not working.
The only way to get the 3G connection working again is to turn the flight mode on and off again. After that everything is working as usual.
(A reboot is also working)
As I got my HTC Desire 2 1/2 years ago I had the same problem,... after an android update everything was working as it should.
But these 3G problems are really quite annoying
Is there anybody out there who has (had) the same problems?
She´s using the HTC stock android 4.0.
Hopefully it´s not a hardware defect
Thanks for your answers so far.

Try to change the sim card(preferably of a diff operator) and post in the q and a:thumbup:

that´s not so easy because she has a contract with o2 ...
I don´t believe that this is a hardware error, because after booking in into the cellphone network everything works as it should... but then after some time it suddenly happens that the 3G network is dead
i have to ask, but is the back cover on?
of course, back cover is on. I also don´t think that this has something to do with the back cover (or any other hardware) because like i just said after switching the flightmode on and off everything works as it should ... i´ve googled in the meantime and I found some other people who are also on android devices and they´re having the same problem.
here´s a german article of people who´re having the same problem
http://petitionen.com/p/internet-vverbindungsprobleme-bei-android-smartphones/sign
This also confirm my doubts... I had the same behavior on my old HTC Desire ... but after I´ve flashed another rom everything has worked perfectly
seems to be an android specific problem

Its not gsm, right?? You can't get a sim from somewhere , out it temporarily and try?
Sent from my One V using xda app-developers app
it´s a GSM smartphone...
well, actually i have no chance to try another simcard in the phone...
Moved to Q&A. Please ask all questions there.
Could it be possible that the problem is due to the baseband version her One V is using?
If I remember right i´ve upgraded the radio rom, too when i was flashing my Desire 2 years ago. After the whole flashing procedure the error was gone?
I had the same problem. REBOOT and it worked again
Edit: if you're saying that this happens occasionally you'll have to bare with it. Mine happened every 20 days or so

have you try using another carrier? or is your phone primo c?
If the phone is locked to a carrier he can't use another sim to get service I think he's trying to say, so sim from another carrier is out of the question.

well, i mean if he can temporarily change sim with his/her friend just to make sure what's wrong..
the phone isn´t locked to the carrier, but i don´t want to buy a new simcard just to make sure if the phone is working correctly. I´ve already thought about installing a custom rom.
Can anyone advise a good custom rom for One V which is working correctly with all functions? (Maybe a Jellybean Rom?)
Thanks so far!

Are you sure HSDPA means falling back? Imho it's only a type of 3G and it is really fine if you see H for mobile data mode. I might be wrong or this might be treated differently by country/operator.

As i only reach about 80 kb/s down speed and it does show 3G logo from time to time, but it turns back to H, when i try to use it.
Hello xda,
Firstly I wanted to say thank you all for existing, Ive had much fun customising my HTC Desire and now my One X because of your articles. Even using google, all roads led to XDA.
Now to the problem...
Yesterday the official Jelly bean update for my One X, and since then Ive had a bunch of Wifi problems:
As soon as I connect to Wifi, I get about 10 seconds of internet, then nothing will connect until I turn Wifi off/on again, when this repeats, of course. This happens on both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks at my home.
If I use a network that have other users on it, it will disconnect for everyone.
The Wifi works on my phone properly when I change the router to 802.11b mode, but signal strength is poor.
I cleared the cache in recovery and when that didnt work I performed a factory rest, also didnt solve the problem.
I have read up about the problem and tried all solutions but I was thinking about going back to having my phone unlocked and rooted etc as this was what I had originally until I relocked it to get the official update (which has come back to bite me in the butt)
I guess this biggest question would be: Would getting a custom ROM fix this problem? Im asking this instead of going ahead with it like I normally do because I dont really want to make it worse if I can help it.
If anyone else knows enough about this problem, or the cause of it, that would be swell. Is it because of the fact that its been relocked/unrooted? Others who have stock standard phones have had the same problem but I want to be sure.
Some info:
HTC One X - unbranded CID HTC_023
Software #: 3.17.728.1
Android: 4.1.1
Stock Kernal
Stock Recovery
S-ON
HBOOT: 1.39.0000
Relocked Bootloader
Network 2Degrees New Zealand
WIFI Router:
TP-LINK TL-WDR3600
ISP: Telstraclear NZ
Its probably not super brief, but I want to make sure I have everything you need.
Thanks!
This sounds like the problem that existed on early JB hboots prior to 1.36, if I recall. Don't know why you have the problem, it's very odd.
My advice : make a nandroid of the stock rom and flash a different rom ! The bootloader has already been unlocked so the state of warranty will not change if unlock it again. Worth the try ..... going back to the reseller is always an option after this !
I don't have this problem and i've updated to JB for some time now.I am not an expert on anything, but a friend of mine had similar problems with the wifi that you have, except that his wifi would randomly turn off and on from time to time in addition to your problems. After going to the HTC repair center they replaced his Wifi antena because it was faulty, and after that he didn't had any problems. The strangest thing is that he was using a custom rom(ARHD if i recall right) and HTC accepted to repair his phone, that simply amazed me because i tought that once you unlock your bootloader and install a custom rom, you're guarantee will be voided.Anyway, sorry for the long post and stories, but you can call or sent an email to HTC regarding this issue, you might have a faulty antena.
Yeah I thought it might be the faulty antennae halabaloo that people talked about for most One X phones, but the Wifi was fine before the JB update and I haven't dropped it around the same time (though almost threw it at the wall)
Also it looks like Ill have to wait a bit for a custom rom, as the stock kernal is the only one that plays nice with the new HBOOT. Touchscreen is not working in rom or recovery.
A bunch of other people with HTC_023 had this same problem.
I'm on _023 and Touch does not work with CWM (not really that big a deal), but works fine with the stock ROM. No issues with wifi, just an odd issue with the voice->text that seems to affect only my phone. Do yourself a favour and make a nandroid backup and store it on your computer so you don't have to poke around for one later.
I'm also on HTC__023 with JB update and have found since the update that it dosen't like 5ghz wifi yet 2.4ghz is fine
I am on the same ota and my wifi does not work at all. Hopefully HTC figures this out. This is my 2nd HOX the first one had the bad antenna.
don't let the cat lick the butter
Ok I think I fixed it, if youve got wifi problems on a 5ghz network, youll have to change the mode to 802.11a and channel to 36 on the router (at least, thats what I did) and it works again!
If I use a network that have other users on it, it will disconnect for everyone.

Isn't it an AP problem? With the new wireless module in JB the phone WiFi may talk a bit differently to the AP. I would suggest to check with different APs and to upgrade router/AP firmware.
