You can use Captain_Throwback's guide.

Go to HTCDev.com, follow the unlock bootloader link, and follow the directions there. Once the bootloader is unlocked you can do almost anything you want with the phone. It will not be S-off, but mine isn't and I am running paranoid android at the moment and love the custom ROM.

The only for sure way that I personally know will root your phone is an XTC clip. Other methods could work but this is all I know. you MAY be able to make a gold card and downgrade to an hboot that will allow you to root using software methods but I really have no idea. sorry man, hopefully the others with that phone will chime in soon.

I have EVO 4G with CM7 and Amon_RA recovery
HBoot 2.10 S-ON
and Radio 2.15.00.05.02
I am trying to install stuff (ViperMod, V6 Super Charge) to /system and I always get can't create temp file out of memory. Even when I mount /system as R/W using Root Explorer. I learned that it is because I have S-ON on Hboot. I know Revolutionary but it does not support HBoot 2.10. I have trued AutoRoot 2.5 but it never worked. Can someone help me please?
A question in a Development forum and NOT in a Question and Answers forum. What are the odds?
I apologize. I wasn't aware of questions and answers section.
Use unrevoked not revolutionary... run an RUU preferably a 3.70.651.1 RUU
Collection of them and instructions Here you go
Now Go here and do this after you ran the RUU
After you run Unrevoked you are rooted with s-off and everything should be back to rooted-normal

It worked !!! thanks a bunch
And for future reference, you probably would've been able to just flash unrevoked forever through recovery. Just in case someone else is searching for the same thing.

I am not sure but maybe. I also tried AutoRoot 2.5 and it did not work.
For future reference, if you are getting can't create temp file /system/..... out of memory when using V6 Super Charge or ViperMod it is likely because S-ON. Even if you use Root Explorer and mount /system as r/w it would not work. CHMOD 777 would not work either You NEED to have S-OFF.
I tried both now and they worked.

Looks like you're part of the way through my unrooting guide (see my sig - Restore stock with Revolutionary Root). Finish it up, and you should be good to go. It would also probably be a better idea to post in a recent thread rather than bumping one that's a year old .

If I have a evo running 2.3.3 and my hboot is 2.18.0001,is there any way to downgrade or root my phone as it is? Or do I have to wait til revolutionary updates?
To downgrade your hboot, you would need full root, which you cannot fully root that hboot yet.

Not true. That HBOOT is unlockable with the HTCDev.com site, and NAND unlock is possible with the process outlined here.
However, if the OP is on that HBOOT, the OP should also be running Android 2.3.5, so I'm curious as to how that's not the case.

Are you sure? Can you post screenshots of your HBOOT screen, and your Software Information screen? The new OTA (that included the 2.18 HBOOT) upgraded the Android version to 2.3.5.
Do not downgrade your hboot. There is no reason to whatsoever unless you r trying to brick your phone.

There are a couple of Dev's working on this so at this point is only a matter of time before you can root.

go to settings/about phone/software info.
this should show you that you have 2.3.5 especially if you have hboot 2.18
and yes you can root hboot 2.18 by unlocking your bootlaoder then downgrading your hboot to 2.10 then root your phone with unrevoked. captain throwback has found a way to do this.
here is his guide:

Its already rootable HTCDEV will unlock the bootloader then you can manage s-off from there, revolutionary does not work with 2.18 and its locked up pretty tight without using the HTCDEV method
Edit: and downgrading your bootloader is about a 99.99999999% chance of a brick as they screw with the partitions when they update hboot now so downgrading jams up the NAND partition and you get stuck in hboot only no recovery no fastboot no rom no phone just a nice paperweight/oddly shaped hockey puck
We are legion, for we are many.

I think it's suppose to be 2.3.5/2.18 and 2.3.3/2.15 or 2.16? and how my "knoob" self knew was a method from this THREAD?
Unless I'm blind, and I very well could be the EVO 4G Sprint model is not on the list of supported phones at htcdev.com. if anyone has used the htcdev.com method with success I would love to hear about it because I'm in the same boat as the OP. Thx

The method works. You have to scroll down the menu of supported devices and click on "ALL OTHER SUPPORTED MODELS at the bottom of the "SELECT YOUR DEVICE" menu.

I had my bootloader screen looking exactly like that and I followed this guide and it worked great. Make sure you read up earlier in the guide and make sure you have the drivers it says installed. My phone would connect before I installed the drivers, but in order to do the things you need to with the phone, you have to install those drivers. After you have the bootloader unlocked via HTCdev (looks like you do), just start on setp 34, and you'll be good to go.

When ever I insert a sim it says network locked, I have read and followed some of the instructions on this forums with no luck and success in getting it unlocked. Im a noob whose been eager to learn the trade and I always come to loose ends, can anyone just point or direct me how to do this in a way I can do this successfully? Thanks you very much... I really appreciate you guys for doing such hard labor answering all of these questions.
Little background would help. How did you get S-Off, or did somebody else do it? And "followed some of the instructions on this forums" isn't very specific, there are several methods to S-Off and root.
gfree will give you S-Off. But not sure if you can run this if you are already S-Off.

Gfree gives u Sim unlock. You probably just have fake s off

It's all in the Wiki. S-OFF is not the same as SIM unlock, that's a totally different issue (but is often addressed at the same time as S-OFF etc).
So it seems you have some sort of S-OFF, but are still SIM locked.

How did you root? Are you S-OFF, or did you just unlock your bootloader?
If you did the HTCDev method, you can relock your bootloader using the command HTC provided on the website when you unlocked it.
We're going to need more information to be able to help you. How about a picture of the complete information from HBOOT?
ROM: MikG v3.11 w/ICS Lite Theme | Kernel: Underworld v0.4 SBC
I'M ASSUMING THAT YOU HAVE THE WATERMARKED 2.18 BOOTLOADER AND IT IS SET TO S-ON.
Technically, the easiest way would be just to run a 4.67.651.3 RUU or PC36IMG stock image which can be found from the link below toward the bottom of that page. The drawback will be that your bootloader will still be watermarked either "UNLOCKED" or "RELOCKED", so anyone can tell that the phone was at one time rooted.
http://goo.im/stock/supersonic/ruu
To completely unroot and lock the bootloader back to its original "LOCKED OWW" state, you would have to go to the "HOW TO ROOT WITH HBOOT 2.18.0001 s-on 2.3.5...+ s-off revolutionary" tutorial instead, but you only need to follow steps 28-43.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473373&highlight=2+18+s-off
The drawback to this is that it is a little more complicated, and will set your phone back to Android 2.2, unless you substitute the PC36IMG file in step 42 with the 4.67 PC36IMG file from the first link above.
