RE: How to customize my phone to this extent...
Hello,
Before I begin, yes, I understand that I am new and that this is my first forum posting, please, do not judge myself.
---------------
Anyway, I'm a new to the whole customization scene. I stumbled across a website named 'mycolorscreen' (I can't link due to a lack of postings), some of the designs that our human race creates are simply beautiful... but, there is a flaw... a big flaw on my part, I have no-idea how to re-create any of them. I've been told it's simple... but I just cannot get my head around.
I am going to be as blunt as humanly possible when I say, how do I make this exact design for my device (again, I can't link the URL);
mycolorscreen(.com)/2012/08/10/wow-fantastic-baby/
I've been searching for the past hour on how-to-do-so, I now have a severe headache.
I'm sorry if there's a tutorial that has been posted already, but again, I am new here, so you'll have to bare with me.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
Regards - Sgt

It looks like just heaps of Widgets added to the home screen using desktop visualiser mate. First of all get that. Then get some images you want as the tiles, and add widget

It just custom icon set and not interactive..
There is link for custom icons set in comments.
You can try launcher 7 for this type of customization.

It's all Desktop Visualizer with just different sizes & icons - nothing else.

Get 3 homescreens, set these: ://dl.dropbox.com/u/http://dl.dropbox.com/u/73796776/73796776/Screenshot W8 style.rar as individual wallpapers, using something like 'Multipicture live wallpaper'.
Download 'Desktop virtualizer' and set the widget sizes according to the size of the icons on the wallpaper. I think they'll be 1*1 or 2*2, you may need to change your launchers homescreen grid size. Then set the desktop virtualizer widgets to open the specified apps. (Set the widget that is over the 'gallery' icon to open the gallery app). Hope this helps (sorry if it didn't, PM me of you need more info/help).

[REQ]Transparent Contacts Grid?

I was wanting to setup a whole screen with a grid of "favorite contacts" so that I don't have to search for them each time I want to call/text.. I use the Launcher Pro contact grid right now, but I was thinking the Transparent look would be nicer since I like my wallpaper. Something like the transparent widgets app that's out there, but for contacts instead of a news feed, calendar, or clock...anybody got any ideas or know if there's something out there already?
This would be cool!!!!
Search in the themes section and you will find multiple skinned versions of launcher pro. Some with transparent contact widget backgrounds. I would post a link but I'm using the mobile app.

The themes section on where? In the XDA forums or is there an actual theme download for launcher pro through the app or somethin?
Sounds cool... Would also like to see this!!!
Inversion Conversion
if you don't find what you're looking for - (something that's already been created), a good place to post to see if someone wants to take it on is here. The honcho over there "The Bowers" is awesome with this stuff:
Team Inversion Conversion (Transparent Apps thread)
Btw, not all of the current apps that they've modded will flash nicely with our phones-- since most of them are using droids. If testing them out, I usually adb push them to my phone (backing up first, of course).

Alternative app drawer - list style display included

Been lurking on the android apps and games thread lately and there's a lot of good stuff I'd never seen before - including this alternative app drawer.
I always wanted a list mode, and this works perfectly - see screenie here. Very customisable too, including font size and colour.
Apologies if this app is better known than I assume, hope someone finds it useful.
Bump - just found out you can change icons and app names too in all views. Top.
If there's an easier way to edit/change icons I haven't found it. Love this app.

Recognized Themer, I NEED YOU

OK, so I am planning to release some icons for the Nexus (or any real 720p device) but I am stuck.
I used to theme for the iPhone jailbreak community, and I had been commented on how good my work is so Photoshop is a breeze for me, I just have a few questions..
1- What is the default length and width of an app, especially since it is over 300ppi? I need a base to start icons on.
2- for launchers, is there a specific way to package up all the icons and make it change the drawer icons too?
3- how can I test my icons on my own device without permanently changing the icon? (I am ROOTED)
4- If there is a tutorial on android theming, please feel free to link me?
Theming for iPhone and winterboard was easy. Package it up, name the folder, select it and it changes the icons. I am wondering if there is also a similar way.
Thanks for your time, please leave your comments on where I can get started.

Take a look at this:
http://developers.janrain.com/docum.../introduction-to-android-theme-customization/
Beamed via Nexus 4
I don't think that's what you're after since you don't seem to be looking for themeing instructions for your own app but rather for the OS. You should take a look at the Theme chooser in cyanogenmod and maybe a tutorial on how to do those themes. Otherwise you will find many aren't cross compatible between launchers so find the launcher you like the best and develop for that one specifically.

The first thing you're going to need to do is download the android SDK and apktool. You'll need an XML editor as well. Theming for android is a lot more complicated than it is for the iPhone

I'm in the same boat coming from 4 years of iPhone themeing.
I used MyHome launcher when i had a gs3 for 4 days and it was pretty easy to theme. Hoping to get MiUi rom for nexus 4 when my phone geTs delivered tomorrow.
Well if you want to mod some apps, you'll need: (not to make it from 0)
- APKtool (to "extract&build" apps) its on xda...
- Some basic knowledge, as:
· Be careful with those images with an extension like ".9.png" , you'll have to download sdk and its a lil more complex .... (sometime its ok, but others it looks weird :silly: , so you can try but always have a copy of original ) :victory:
· If you want just make icons start doin at 96x96 (xhdpi default) :highfive:
So what's the trick yo get the action name for apps to out in the XML? I found a web page that you an search and I added hulu plus icon to a theme (apktool to unpack, nodded files, repacked and then resigned with a script I found for Mac) but how do I get the right string to change the camera app that's built into cm10 ROM and none of the themes I've downloaded have changed.

[WIDGET] Themed\Modified default SGS3 weather widget

This is an alpha build for testing/development by those who know the risk!
It may destroy all your data, brick your phone or make other permanent changes to your device.
You have been warned!
This widget, in its current form, was pieced together as a PROOF OF CONCEPT ONLY!
This is a themed and modified version of the stock Sammy weather widget.
It was originally the default weather widget in a ROM I was building for the GN2, now I have SGS3.
I Will Not Be Continuing Development
I Will Not Provide Support
This is a flashable zip, wipe cache
What Is Here:
100% of the PNG's from the GN2 version
100% of the XML/Layout re-writes
Whats Missing:
Support for landscape
FAQ:
Can I Use/Fix this widget as a project and call it my own?
---Not much to fix but if someone wanted to re-write some landscape XML's to match my
portrait XML's I would gladly link/add it to this post with thanks and credits to the XDA member
who undertakes this.
---Themers who like the layout but want different text ,numbers etc. may change any aspect and
repost elsewhere. Just hit Thanks.
---Devs who want to add this or a version of this to their rom may do so. Just hit Thanks.
Is this widget good enough for daily use?
---No, it has not been adequately tested and bug-tracked for daily use. Feel free to use this thread to
post bugs. I will help answer theme/dev related questions in this thread if needed (if i am able).
Will this cause battery drain?
---Not that I am aware. Please feel free to post if you experience otherwise.
Thanks:
RUJELUS22 - try his AIO script, great tool.
Samsung - For the Original

Progress indicator now shows in top right
AccuWeather icon moved/transparency added
New weather images
Tap-to-add text removed
Removed embossing
Much smaller file size
Maybe one more thing I can't think of...

No problem... I think I have the main AccuWeather app somewhere too, themed and modded to match this widget. Might take a little digging, and a good half hour uninterrupted to port it over, but if people are liking the widget I could make it happen.
Might try..

GMT-6 here. Sundays are my day off work. Should* be posted by tonight.
Edit: ported now, just finished a test build... so far there is no landscape and map mode is borked.
Actionbars are back to touchwiz stock since I am compiling with the stock sgs3 framework.
Other than that fairly stable... I'll see what I can fix up before I post.

Metro Icons - applying actions to images

Hi guys,
Total android Newbie here.
Just been playing around with my Nexus 7 and theming it.
Im currently running Nova prime with minimal MIUI icons (will upload pic soon)
I like the look of some of the large rectangular metro style icons which I would like to apply to my setup. What program would be best to assign actions to the images?
I tried desktop virtualiser and it uploads the metro icons but they look pretty small and theres no option for resizing.
Any help would be appreciated
You should be able to change them using Nova.

What the guy ^ there said, plus if you use uccw you can use those images, the metro style images, as either a background or insert as an image, scale as you see fit, then add a hotspot over them and assign the click action to whatever you want. Uccw is my go to for creating anything custom

You need to choose different sized widgets when using Desktop Visualizer. The 1x1 SS one will look like a normal icon, BTW. I haven't used it for a while, but it should have worked.
