Camera speed - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is the camera shutter speed really the bees knees? I've seen YouTube videos and it looks fast. I have a two year old and they move fast. I need to know if it really snaps fast pics. Zero lag?

If it doesn't have to autofocus or use flash then its instantaneous.

Yes. The thing that takes the most time is the autfocus. If you turn that off you really can click it as fast as the touchscreen will let you.

But if it does have to autofocus and/or flash, its still fast?
My point is it seems as fast as any other smartphone camera on the market? Same as s3 or the One series from HTC?

It's still pretty fast in my case

S3 & One X both have instantaneous camera speeds like the GNex.

LOL, how right your are!
This indeed would be awsome, but as far as I'm aware, there isn't, no..
There are only two reasons someone would need this......well in reality just one. All other reasons are BS.

[Q] is camera fast enough?

I need a phone for my wife, camera speed is very important for her.
The only online video review i could find are based on the 2.3 (i think) OS and it seems that the sutter speed and the speed between shots are not so great. Did the things has changed with ICS?
Nothing has changed at all. U can use apps as camera replacement but if camera is important then I gotta be honest other phones are much better. Best thing would be go to store and use the phone.

Thanks for the answer. It sounds like a real sin, as i know that this model is really fast in everything else...
Can't have it all unfortunately.
On the plus side though, a DSLR is pretty fast

I have the galaxy nexus and it would be ideal: fast and with a fast camera.
Problem is I can't afford another one so i'll have to choose between two phones from koodo canada: galaxy s2x or htc one v.
Htc one v seems to have good fast camera but i'm concerne it's going to be laggy.

Absutely, it's a good camera for what i found out. But for her speed is more important then quality, as all the cameras are pretty good nowadays if you only need "facebook pictures". She's always complaining that she constantly miss "the moment" because her current camera on her phone is too slow.

Try out the fast burst camera app. There is a free version you can get and see if you like it. I ended up buying the paid version because I liked it so much. I take pics of my son swinging at the batting cage and it works great.

how cute! I was surprised at it's performance. I recorded my ceiling fan, which is fast enough so it looks like a blur to me, but at 1/8th speed I can see idividual fans turning.. slow. So neat.

Pathetic photo quality with flash ON

Hi,
I have recently got Note 2. Though everything is working fine, photos with flash mode are coming terrible. Light is spread out in the photo and is not at all the one you want to keep. I used to have HTC sensation and never had issues with flash photos. Am I missing something in the camera configuration? I am using all default settings and the phone is using stock ROM.
You're not missing anything. The flash is indeed crap. I've said it many times before.

Mine is average at best, but not pathetic. Same as the SGS1/2/3. I can live with it.

Not the best, but for the most part flash works ok...I am not a fan of 'flash photography' anyway.
I can't complain too.
I think the problem is the same as note 1 that I have. The camera is too near the edge so when using the flash be carefull with your left hand. Even if it doesn't show in the picture it can reflect the flash and flood your photo with light.

@washin21 - I think this could be the problem as I was seeing some shadow. I clicked few shots with keeping figures away and the shots came OK. This is still not the best which I would expect from such a high end device. Normal day shots are nice.

Im with you on this. I had a Sensation XE earlier, and that had a much better camera. Pics were clear, less grainy and the flash was jus brilliant. I tried Camera Zoom Fx, it seems to be better than the stock cam.

nice, but I felt a little underwhelmed. I agree there is power in the phone to be PC replacement. I didn't watch the whole vdieo, so I don't know if he discussed the short comings of what can and can't be done compared to the PC. It's not the fault of the phone, but more Android and the way apps are designed.
With that said, we may see these things replace the cheap PC in the future. Bablysteps....babysteps
