I am having this same problem. I did a search and found this thread with no responses. It must have been covered somewhere else. From what I have read, samsung turned off the ablility to move and use apps from the sd card. Also, I read that the only way to restore this function is to root the phone.
Its not an error message. It is simply informing you that all your apps are on the internal storage and it can't utilize the actual external SD card as app storage. However, if you look/search the development section you will find a way around this.
Good Luck.

I've always used ROM manager to make, rename or delete a nandroid. The app shows that there are no backups but when I go into CWM it shows there are 6! I tried to save my current setup and was unable to because there is no available memory.
Those 6 are clogging up potential available space does anybody know how else I can delete them?? I searched a bunch of files in Root Explorer but couldnt find anything. I want to check out TWRP because I hear a lot of hype about it but need to get this situation dealt with first.
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated

Did you set up which location you're storing it in... In ROM manager that is. You should check out both your emmc and sd card or uhhh depending on your Rom, sdcard and ext

There it is, nice!! External SD Card. I can't believe I overlooked that file. Thank you for the help!
I obviously can't see what's right in front of my face, I swear I could be in a room with an elephant and not even know it was there :silly:
Yeah you could set up ROM manager to external sd card so you can organize it that way lol. And that phrase is totally used out of context but works lol

I have just realized that whenever I install an app onto my phone, it installs into my Internal SD. I have an external micro SD in my phone, but it doesn't install in there.
According to My files in the app drawer, it says that my external is extSDCard and the internal is sdcard. Does anyone know how to force it to install into my extSDCard?
Look through or search the themes and apps section. Someone posted a way to use apps to sd there.

I have check T-Mobile Galaxy S III Themes and Apps but was unable to find it. By any chance do you remember the Topic Title?
EDIT: Nevermind, I found the answer on [TESTED] app & games data to external SD card on S3 !!!. It was in the international forum for Galaxy S III. Apparently the only way to do this is to use Directory Bind.
My bad. It was in the development section.

Thank You! That looks like just what I needed.
Sorry to bother you guys once again. But I'm still having some issues with my.phone storage. I can't figure out why everything is installing onto my USB storage instead of my SD card.
I don't really know how to exactly explain it. So what I did was take a screenshot of before and after, to try to show you what I mean...
This first screenshot is taken of an app I have. I went to my.task manager then to the downloads tab, and I chose an app that said it was "installed on device".. & this is what it says:
*(look at 1st picture)*
Ok.. So I click.on the "move to SD card" button, hoping to move it to the card.. I wait a few, then this next picture, is what it says after:
*(look at 2nd picture)*
I thought it was supposed to move it to SD card, but if you look at the numbers, there is still nothing on the SD card..
Why is this happening.. & how can I fix it, so it actually moves to the card? I'm running out of space on my USB storage..
Please help. Thanks guys
So, anyone have any.ideas.on how to fix my.storage issue?? Any.suggestions?? My.USB storage is almost full & my card is basically.empty.. I need to figure out what the problem is... I would appreciate any help at all. Thanks guys.

Are you on a stock ROM or on a JB leak?

When you go to settings > storage and press the menu button is there an option for storage location? If there is switch it from internal to external. USB storage(internal) is seen as an SD card so move to SD moves it to rhe internal SD which has mucb higher read write speeds than an external class 10. You can also swap you camera location to external and download location to external and use internal for all apps. Even if you swap locations you're going to be limited to one or the other you can't use both at once for apps2sd

I went to settings, storage, then pushed menu button, but nothing happens. No menu came up.
I want everything to basically go to my external SD card. Any other way to default to my card??

I cant seem to figure out how to get apps that ive downloaded on my external sd card I only have a class 4 16gb sd but everything goes to device instead of card

This is a major flaw with the note. You can put data on the card, but you cant put apps or cache movies from google play, etc...
It is a limitation with jelly bean, but samsung has not provided a work around. I will research this more before buying my next phone.

One potential solution is to get a bigger sd card and swap the internal and external storage. For example I have a 64 gig sd card that my note 2 now sees as internal storage. With your current 16 gig card it makes no sense to do this, but if you NEED more storage for apps this may be the only way. As far as I know there is no way to transfer app data to the external sd, but if this is incorrect someone feel free to correct me. If you are interested in swapping the sd card to internal storage this was the thread I followed:

EDIT: I've heard that some people are having success with an app called "link2sd" from the play store, but it wouldn't work consistently for me. Maybe worth a try though...
Thank you very much for the great info ..I will give that a shot ....xda community Rocks !!!!

So I am trying to move music from my internal memory to my external micro SD card and I keep getting a error saying the transfer failed or when I try to delete a movie from my SD it won't delete. This is also using a brand new micro SD card. Is this a known issue due to KitKat?

Its not an issue, its a 'feature' that google implemented. Only the app that created the data/folders can move them. So if the files were put on the internal memory by app A, then only app A can move them instead of using a file manager. Its stupid and annoying and I'm waiting for a patch to stop the madness.
Thank you for the info. Hope they fix that soon

It won't be "fixed" ever, as it's not broken. That's how google wants it. The theory is that it's to address security concerns, as well as keep the SD card from getting as cluttered with apps throwing their stuff all over the place. If you want to make it how it used to be before kit-kat, rooting is probably your best/only option. If HTC had included a file manager, you could at least move files around on the card and transfer them to and from it as OEM/System level file managers can still do that. Since they didn't though, it makes it worse.
