I just noticed this today. I'm curious also as to why?
*edit* It seems to have something to do with emergency notifications. I had an emergency alert system test and that's when contacts were randomly turning blue. I deleted it and everything is back to normal.

They are that way if you have them starred in Android. If they are starred, they are blue. If not, they are white. Emergency alerts are blue as well.

My stared contacts are not blue. The only time I have blue contacts is when I have an emergency alert message.
One color signifies recieved text and the other signifies sent text. I can't remember which one is which, since my phone's not on me right now.
Interesting story...
All my contacts were white.
Got an emergency alert for today, which was blue.
A few of my contacts magically turn blue.
Delete emergency alert, still blue (and the one that moved up to the old emergency spot also became blue).
Deleted all messages.....next thread I create is blue.
Force stop app/delete data and everything goes back to white.
IDK if that helps anyone.

I have the Siemens SX-66 and it has on its top right corner a LED light that blinks certain colors to give information as to whether it is charging and if it is working and such. Anyway, when I am away from the phone and I return to it is the light is blinking red that means I missed a call so I turn the screen on and see what is up. It does not do that for a text message, though. After being away from the phone I have to turn the screen on to see if I missed a text message. What I want to know is there a way I can make it to where if I miss a text message while away that the red light wil blink then too and not just when I missed a phone call?
THANKS!!!
yes u can, go
"Start">"Settings">"Sounds & Notifications"
Select "Notifications" tab
On the "Event", select "Messaging: New text message"
then u can c "Flash light for", check it then select the desire amount of time to flash after u "missed" a text message.
It is not here
I have the Siemens SX-66. I did what you suggested and went to Start">"Settings">"Sounds & Notifications. There was only a box that was already checked that said events (warnings, system events)
The other stuff are options I do not have. The stuff you told me, could it be for a different phone, or version of OS?
bump
I just had to bump this. This person gave me what was probably the correct answer but for a different phone because these instructions do not fit my phone. Can ANYONE help me? PLEASE!!!
No help?
Can't anyone help me here? The directions I was given was not correct for the model phone I have and I just HAVE to think it is feasable! PLEASE HELP! THANKS!!!!
Have you tried the software PhoneAlarm?
V
What is that?
I do not have a clue as to what that is. What is that? Is it software you add-on or something? If so what does it do and where do you get it? All I really want to do is change what I think would be a simple setting.
Thanks!!
http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.htm
Although you only need a simple notification setting, the LEDs can be tempremental.
Phonealarm is custom software, which is pretty much indispensible for any Phone user. I highly recommend it. Tell Bruce I sent you
It will give custom notifications depending on the kind of event, eg sms, missed call etc.

Money
This is not a huge deal and so I am not willing to spend money on it. I just want to change a setting or mess with the registry some how to make it where when a text message comes in while I was away from my phone that the notification light blinks red like it does when I miss a call in the same scenerio. It can't be this difficult and I have to think it is possible.
You have to click on the "Notifications" tab at the bottom of the screen to get to the notifications area, you are looking at the "Sounds" tab.
YES!!!
Now THAT is what I wanted. THANK YOU!!!!
The third line of the first reply to this post does specify the "notifications" tab, maybe you just missed it, but the answer was there.
have fun adjusting your notification settings hehe
if you want to use a wav file for a sound notification, place the wav file in your windows directory and it will allow you to select it. I have Hal from space odyssey tell me when "there is a message for you"
When I finish a call and touch end call. My phone goes to the home screen but in the notifications area I can still see a red phone icon. When I drag it down and it shows the call counter still going up. And I have to click end call a few times but whilst I try to end call the.screen flashes on and off. Anyone else had this or know a fix. I'm on orange, debranded with latest HTC ota update also every now and again in the notifications area it says I have inserted a new sim and asks me if I would like to change my settings. Very weird.
Thanks
Dion

I'm loving my Galaxy Nexus. Stock 4.0.2, not even rooted!
I was hoping XDA could help with a few minor ICS problems I'm experiencing:
1. What's with the Phone Application theme not matching the People app?
2. How do I activate the screen when I receive SMS or have an Calendar appointment reminder? I love (!!) the Notification LED and with Light Flow but sometimes it can be annoying not seeing the real pop up on the screen. (I'm using a 4 digit pin code, if that helps).
3. How do I stop the unlock button hanging up on an incoming call? I find this happens A LOT to me and really annoys me off. I don't know if this is expected behaviour but the unlock bottom silences the ring tone and blacks he screen. Pressing it again to bring on the screen, and the call is gone.
PS. Google. Please hurry up with the high resolution GMail Contacts =)

1.) This is just how it was designed. You'll have to install a theme in order for the people app to match the phone app (i.e. black + ics blue color).
2.) Not sure about calendar popups, but you can install SMSPopup and it will integrate with the internal messaging app to show a Popup whenever you receive a text message.
3.) Could you be more specific?
Okay so, you can pretty much fix all of this with rooting.
#1 you can install a custom theme, like said above.
#2 You can choose what happens when you get a notification. Any notification, mind you. Not just SMS.
#3 With my AOKP ROM I have the option to choose what the lock button does during a call.
Hopefully this helped.

1. They do match - halo dark and halo light. Go look up android development if you have no idea what I'm talking about.
The rest has being solved by replies before me.
#3. Not sure if this helps, but I have had this happen when I had tasker set up wrong. If you're running tasker, look at all your profiles relating to calls or phone idle.

1. They are meant to be separate apps, hence they have different Holo themes.
2. I've always looked at this as a feature, but oh well, do what the other say and install an app.
3. This happened on my Nexus S, but I haven't noticed it on the Galaxy Nexus yet, locking and unlocking usually works.

1. Thanks. I didn't realize this was as designed.
2. I used to like it, but because it's my work/daily phone I need to be immediately . I just want it as it is right now, but a popup for SMS and Calendar reminders.
3. Thanks, I've tried the settings suggested in this thread and will everyone know.
For high res contact pics, edit the contact on your gnex and attach a new pic. Works fine and looks beautiful. I find that cropping the pic at the top of the head to just below the shoulder looks the best.

Does anyone else have this problem?
New email comes in and the LED flashes green (like I configured it).
But if I Swipe it away, it constantly stays on and flashes green. It stays like this until another email comes in, which I actually click on.
Posting this here because I read the dev is on here and may see it if it is a real bug.

if you go in light flow app where you set up notification color and etc...there's 3 options to set how to clear notification style. Is enter app to clear selected? Try changing it to manual.

I remember the dev saying that he couldn't access the return code for swiping away notifications from the SDK. One workaround is to set the 'clear notification' to 'open notification center' so everytime you pull down the notification bar it would clear that LED.
Is there an app that will show me a list or log of apps that have triggered the home button notification light? Also, is there a list of what colors/flash patterns belong to which types of notifications? Rooting is not an option until my one year warranty is up and that's several months away.
Sometimes when I get a notification I'll go see what it is and clear it. The home button light stops flashing but then when Iput my phone to sleep the notification light will start blinking again. When I wake it up there's nothing in notifications and the home button stops blinking again but then it starts again when it goes to sleep. I've tried disabling different apps and have found what some of the notifications are but not all of them.
My wife and I use ICQ to chat since we've been on it so long and sometimes the phone tells me there's a new message when there's not. ICQ does a fast red flash on the home button so when I see it I have to open ICQ again and go to the chat a second time then back out all the way to clear it. That's not too bad because it's got a unique color and flash pattern so I know what it is.
Sometimes it's a blue light with a slower flash rate. I think that's for email but not sure since it's probably used by more than one app.
The one I can't figure out is a slow green flash. I've tried everything I can think of including force-closing every app and nothing makes it go away. Even rebooting doesn't fix it. It makes it impossible to tell if I actually have a notification unless the notification has a different color and flash pattern.
If there's an app or a way to see a notification history it would help me figure out why it's doing this.

Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull down notifications. The colors are usually set by each app in their respective notification settings. There's apps on the play store that can also help set colors but I think you need root. It's not hard to root and unroot though just don't unlock the bootloader.

Yeah, that's what I explained in my post. When I unlock my phone the home button LED turns off and when I swipe down to see notifications there are none, but as soon as I lock my phone it starts blinking again.
I just went through most of my apps and most have no options at all for the notify light. The only one that does is Facebook but the only option is for on/off and no option for the color. ICQ, GMail, and Outlook.com only lets me choose sound and vibrate. I don't think I've ever seen an app with options to select the color of the home button LED.
