So I am running ICS on my AT&T Ion and noticed that when the screen is locked, the notification bar will still pull down from the top and allow you to access settings or any notifications. It seems to defeat the purpose of having the screen locked. I don't remember if this was the case with the stock firmware. Can anyone confirm?
You are correct. Gingerbread (2.3.7) on this phone does not allow pull-down notifications from the lock screen.

For that very reason, I use unlock pattern. Another option is to use a different locker. Holo locker does not allow access to status bar.

The idea is that if you can quickly check an email/text without having to unlock each time. I guess some ppl found unlocking an annoyance, but at least you can disable/enable it

That is one of the features of ICS. All ICS roms and phones let you do that. Gingerbread never had that feature. So it's not just this ICS rom.:good:
And either way, it isn't a security risk either. If you have a passcode or pattern enabled, it has to be entered for the Notification shortcut feature to work.:highfive:

Just got my new Nexus today
But sometimes I cannot pull down the notification bar when in lockscreen
I have to restart the phone to be able to pull down the notification bar again
Anyone has similar experience?
Any fix?
I didn't think it was possible on the lockscreen to begin with
Sent by me, for me and i love you
Yes its possible in ICS.
Mine is working fine. So far. Do you have any widget on notification such as widgetsoid perhaps? But it should working though

Didn't know this was even possible.
I do have Widgetsoid yes, does that stop it working? Because I am unable to pull down the notif' bar when locked.
Well you could try to remove it see if that works. If yes then probably just minor bug on widgetsoid. I know some of the widgets are still not working on ICS

I too, was unaware of this option. Works fine on my GN LTE.
I believe if you have one of the more secure unlock methods active (PIN, face, pattern) it won't work. Believe it needs to be on slide to work.

Yep, only works on slide.
Thanks.
It's working now.
So weird...
Can anyone access settings through the notification bar when locked?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Only when you have no pin or pattern to unlock. So its not any less secure...
Anyone know of a good replacement for the lock screen on the GN? Say one which lets you launch messaging, phone etc from the actual lock screen?
why i can't drop down notification bar in lock screen? I'm using version 4.0.1
If you have any of the security settings on you won't be able to do use the drop down bar. You have to set it to use no unlock password.
i'm not using any unlock password. i'm using slide to unlock.

Which is there to prevent you from accidentally activate something else, like the notification bar.

Works for me with slide unlock as well.
I am on 4.0.3 custom rom (Axiom) though. I was not on 4.0.1 long enough to see if it worked then.
I'm using Slide to Unlock and I can pull down the notification bar on lock screen to see what's in there.
OP, try activating a secure lock method (such as password/pattern/pin) and then switching back to the slide to unlock...
my last experience is, for some weird reason, if i do not have a simcard in the phone, the notification bar will not slide down.
once i got a sim card in, it start working.

Hey guys,
Is there a way to remove the stock lock screen from my phone? It's a completely stock GS2. I'm planning to root in the next few days, so if that's necessary I'm ok with it. I just HATE the stock lock and want to use widget locker. Unfortunately, when I simply install widget locker over the top, I end up with a redundant lock and have to swipe twice.
Any advice?
Try go locker app

I already know what lockscreen I want to use. I just need to get rid of the stock one.
When you say you have "redundant" lockscreens, do you mean that WidgetLocker comes up, followed by your security lockscreen, or are you not using any sort of password?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
He's talking about the static image that you swipe that unlocks the phone. I installed Go Locker and it gets rid of that except for the 1st time you power the phone on.
Install NO Lock from the market open it click disable. Then install whichever lock apparently you want and run it.
No lock apparently disables the stock
Lock screen.

Install the Juggernaut rom and you can pick from a few different lock screens. I haven't seen the stock lock screen since I installed Juggernaut a month ago.

Correct, widgetlocker comes up, then the stock galaxy lockscreen, so I have to swipe twice.

Thanks, I'll try it again. I installed no-lock, and it just removed widget locker, but it didn't even do that reliably, lol. I'll uninstall WL, run no-lock, and then reinstall and hopefully that will work.

Thanks for the recommendation. When I'm ready to go the custom rom route, I'll check Juggernaut out. I don't know why I'm hesitating about flashing, because I've rooted and ROM'd my last 4 android phones, but for whatever reason, I'm not in a big hurry to root my GS2. Other than the lockscreen, I'm pretty happy with it completely stock.
It appears as though installing no-lock and disabling the lock screen, THEN installing your secondary lock works. I've rebooted a couple times and still get the stock lock on launch (which makes sense, since both no-lock and widget locker are started after boot), but haven't seen it since then.
Solution posted above did not help me. I have installed No Lock, disabled lock screen, then installed Go Locker but even so there is sometimes situation when both screens appear - annoying! What do you recommend?
Try MiLocker which is like the MIUI locker. Used it on my G2 and it worked perfectly. I like the static lock on the SGSS2 so that's why I haven't gone back to using it. Its worth a shot and they have tons of different lock screens
*#7594# It does disable the stock screen lock for Samsung Galaxy Epic 4G Touch (Sprint) and also works for Samsung Galaxy Attain (MetroPCS)., I just tried it does not works on our Phone....
Stock Verizon G-Nex on ver. 4.0.2
Anyone else notice that when you have an app open that uses the menu button in the lower right corner next to the recent apps button'..................if you lock the screen with the app open, and later push the power button to unlock your phone..........the menu button remains on the screen and it will open the app if you press on it, without unlocking the phone!
This doesn't seem right.

I believe It only happens on the insecure slide to unlock. Its not great but tbh, its not really bypassing some lock down when anyone can just slide to unlock anyhow. Make sence?
Steve.

I agree! Use a PIN and see if the same happens.
This only happens on slide to unlock which isn't secure anyways.

I understand. The security isn't a big thing for me, but it seems odd that the menu button is active on the lock screen.
Just an observation.

No. The app devs. If they update their apps for ICS, its a non-issue.
Ever wondered why only some do it?

Hello everybody.
I am new here and I'm sorry if this has been answered already but I could not find an answer. Anyway. I installed WidgetLocker on my Galaxy Nexus but when I uninstalled it later on it left my notifications bar inaccessible from my stock lock screen. It can't be pulled down without unlocking the phone! Is there a way to fix this? It's just awful...
Edit: It can be pulled down in the WidgetLocker lock screen but I don't want to use it.
Do you have password our pattern unlock activated?
The notification bar is only accessible with slide to unlock.

Just tried it, no luck. The problem persists. I think I'll give the factory reset a try.
!EDIT!: Tried it, didn't work out.
Maybe increasing security (activate pattern/password) and then setting it back to slide unlock can fix it?

Unfortunately that was one of the first things I tried.
Why is my notification bar disabled even though I don't have that setting enabled?
One of two reasons: The Block Power Dialog option unfortunately also blocks expanding of the notification bar. The Settings help will be updated in the future to explain this. System security (pin/pattern/password) locks the notification bar itself, this is independent of WidgetLocker.
Found on their website. Don't know if this is a fix or not since I don't have widget locker installed.

Yeah, I stubled upon that too but the weird thing is that the bar is NOT disabled while using WidgetLocker but becomes inaccessible after removing or disabling the app. I'm running ICS 4.0.2 so I'll update and see what happens.
