So I flashed CWM 5.0.2.7 with Odin back in June, and have been running CM9, updating to nightly builds every couple weeks, and RCs as they come out. I last flashed the 8/8 nightly build, and when I rebooted my phone in to recovery to go back to RC2, CWM v6.0.1.1 was what came up. Is that normal? I thought that recovery had to be flashed using USB.

Nope... flashing that nightly installed the latest cwm for you... you're good to go...

Has to be flashed originally from the USB, but once you have a custom recovery, it can update thru ROM zips. They include the recovery binary, so if you have the version it includes already, nothing really happens to that, but if you don't, it updates.

Hey all, this is my first post here and unfortunately its a question I have with CM7 Nightly #8..
I've been running CM7 RC1 since it's release and I've had no problems, no reboots, no lag- nothing. I've steered clear of nightlies because every time I flash one I get random reboots.
Today I picked up #8 did a factory reset/davlik/cache wipe and did a clean install and flashed over Chad's incredikernel for GB as thats the Kernel thats worked best for me on RC1. I restored my apps via Titanium Backup like usual and set up everything back to what I had.. ten minutes later my phone goes into a boot-loop.
Anyone else having these issues?
What verison of CWM recovery do you have?
I flashed 3.0.0.8 shortly after it was released. Prior to that I was on the 2 series and still had the issue. I just went and flashed back to RC1 which was more stable for me. Any thoughts?

Im running alpha4
Also if i want to change the rom i have to reinstall cwm
Alpha 4 came with stock recovery. If you want to update to alpha6 or the latest nightly, odin the el26 cwm kernel and flash rom+gapps from there. Those come with CWM recovery that is safe to flash/restore/backup in.
Hey guys. I just recently updated CWM to 6.0.1.1 ... I have flashed numerous roms before. I am currently running CM10 alpha 2 by team chopsticks . I was trying to upgrade to alpha 3 and in turn updated CWM at the same time. After updating CWM, and flahing Alpha 3. It hung, bootlooped, and kept doing it. So, I was like ok lets re flash... well now CWM just locks up when I try to do anything. I tried a recovery it gets halfway through and says no android.secure could be found on SD skipping...
Well I've waited a half an hour for it... just sat there. Nothing happened. When I try to install the rom... nothing happens. When i go to back out it locks up.
Any ideas on how to fix this ? Or have I just successfully bricked my phone?

I did that right before you posted this... thought I'd give it a whirl. It worked! Now my issues seems to lie within CWM 6 because once I updated again and tried flashing the rom. It froze... but when I do it from the version before. No issues. Im on my phone using it now.... which is odd. I got the CWM 6 straight from team chopsticks. Hmmm.

After you installed the recovery zip, did you remember to wipe cache partition?

I am now dealing with this trying to flash CM10 Alpha 3 from scratch. It looped and nothing happened. Tried to restore and I didn't skip .android_secure but its stuck trying to restore it. I am trying to reflash older CWM recovery now...ugh.
EDIT: OK WOW, what an ordeal. So of course Nandroid backups taken on CWM6 aren't down with CWM5. I put 5.0.2.6 back on with Odin and tried to restore the 6 backup...yeah, no dice. I was lucky and smart enough to have installed TWRP before I tried CM10 and take a backup, AND move the zip + backup to my SD card. So I just flashed TWRP from CWM, did a full wipe and the restore worked as expected. Crisis averted, scariest moment of my modding life so far lol
Hey everyone, I had just flashed cyanogen 10 kang with twrp and everything was fine until I decided to try and get the nexus s 4g modem which I had failed at every time before that. I would flash the rom, then gapps, Then the nexus modem patch before the shadow kernel. This time I flashed the shadow kernel before the nexus modem patch and it had apparentally powered itself off (I had left the room) so I tried to boot back into twrp, but it popped up with cwm 5.0 something instead. And the only backups I have are for twrp. . After I looked around in it for a little I tried flashing the rom and gapps again, booted up fine except I don't believe I had any signal. At all.
I tried to find something that would put twrp back onto my phone but haven't had any luck. And for some reason when I booted back into recovery it had changed to cwm 6.0 something. I don't know what to make of any of it. Right now I'm on cm9 snapshot beta 4 i think. I thought it was the one with twrp already in it so I thought I could try and restore my stuff.
Anyone have a remedy for this? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your time.

You have to flash nyankernel or just the twrp zip. And next time when you flash from twrp, you need to pick inject twrp if you don't want cwm.

not trying to "thread-jack" - but I have a really similar problem (minus the twrp - which i'm not familiar with). Throughout my update to the crespo modem, during the mtd/bml check the phone would reboot into cwm - and I noticed that just like OP, the cwm would change to some 5.0version (not the usual 6 version)....
Here's what I have:
I was on CM Kang 7/30 with shadow kernel
I updated to CM Kang 8/08 (no problems)
I flashed the http://darkierawr.com/Android/Users/...atchcm7AIO.zip and I kept on getting Status 7 errors... I downloaded it a few times with the same result.
Then I saw someone say they flashed the kernel first and then the modem update... so I flashed the http://dl.dropbox.com/u/820341/Shadow-2_CM10_MdmCrp.zip (successful) and then tried flashing the modem update. Got stuck in a boot loop - so I did a battery pull.
Did a cold boot (pressing power) and now the phone "doesn't have a modem" no radio, no signal etc...
Tried it all over again - mounted system - formatted system - flashed 8/08 kang, gapps, then the modem update, and kernel.
my phone boots but no signal. is there a odin version of the modem that I can flash? or does anyone have any ideas?!?!?!
thanks!!

I've had CM10.0 installed on my Verizon GNex since it was released. Just today, I decided to update to the newest experimental CM10.1. I was wary about an experimental, but it displayed as a stable release, so I figured I would give it a shot. After having the 10.1 experimental running for about 10 minutes, I decided to see if I could flash back to 10.0, because there was no option to add/sync my google account in 10.1 experimental. I saw that 10.0 was still able to be flashed from the updater within 10.1 experimental, so I started the installation. Everything seemed fine with the flash, but then when it rebooted, it just got stuck looping the CM boot screen.
I can still access the bootloader and get into ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.1.5. What can/should I do to get CM10.0 booting? If it's not possible, how would I go back to stock firmware?
Thanks all!
All fixed now. Thank you! I used CWM Recovery to push the newest CM nightly and gapps to the sdcard, then just flashed them from within CWM and rebooted. All good now.
PHEW!
