Unable to Encrypt SD Card? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I have a SGH-T999 with Android 4.0.4 which I'm trying to encrypt the SD card of under Settings->Security->Encrypt SD Card.
Under Encryption settings I can select any combination of settings and choose continue after which I am prompted to confirm my password.
However next I get a screen similar to the following:
---
Disable SD card encryption?
ø Device will not encrypt new files on SD card
ø Device will decrypt encrypted SD card
ø Decryption may take along time depending on the amount of data. It is recommended that you plug device into charger
ø All open files on SD card will be closed
ø During this process, SD card will not be available

Any ideas what's going on? I was able to encrypt the device without issue...

How good is the SD Card encryption feature that comes with the phone?

Under Settings > General > Security
I have some questions regarding the encryption
If I encrypt my SD card:
Will new files I transfer from my phone storage to the SD card be encrypted automatically? Or will I have to re-encrypt the entire SD card
How do I de-encrypt the SD card? Can it only be done with the specific phone that I used to encrypt it? Meaning if I encrypt my sd card, and my phone breaks in the futute, I'll never be able to de-encrypt it?
Can I access files on the encrypted card using a file explorer? If so, do I have to enter a password every time I want to look at a file?
That is all. Thanks you in advance.

Encrypted SD Card, quick Q&A.

I just got a 128GB SD card and I decided that it is a good idea if I encrypt the SD card, since the device is already encrypted. I didn't encrypt my last card, just for the record.
Anyway, I'm familiar with how Android Encryption works, I know the risk, I backup my phone regularly, and I know that putting the SD card DIRECTLY into another device or PC is not an option, anymore. Only my G4 can read/write to the SD card while it's encrypted.
Problem is this, I ASSUMED that so long as the SD card is in the phone and the phone is plugged into my PC, I could make file transfers between the SD card and the PC (the phone would handle the encryption process). No such luck. I have no way to transfer files between SD card and PC, unless I decrypt manually.
Any suggestions?
I just can across this same issue last week and have been hunting for an answer with no luck. Have you found any?
I though i could move files around internally and the OS would handle decrypting the files as they went from the SD card to the internal storage. I was a bad assumption. I want to encrypt the SD Card, but I cant move files onto or off of it.

Safest Route to File Recovery on Encrypted SD Card

VZW Galaxy Note 4, SM-N910V.05, Android Version 5.1.1, Kernel 3.10.40
Phone and Ext SD Card (64 gb) Encrypted
Problem: Accidentally deleted 5 mp4 files from ext SD. Have been vigilant about not writing data to card.
Solutions Explored: 1) Droid Apps 2) PC programs
Tried numerous apps and programs but they are going to require me to root the droid as they aren't turning up the goods.. I'm in the middle of a backup of internal and external storage, which will take a whole day, plus ---- in case I have to give in to the root option. I've done jailbreaks and roots before, successfully, but have no desire to run that risk. I like to have a vague idea of what I am doing so resist one-click routes but am willing to go in that direction if others here might assure me of just the right solution.
Solution Considered: Decrypting SD card then mounting via usb and running recovery programs, which don't otherwise recognize the phone (internal or external storage) even in the usb mass storage mode (PC recognizes all phone storage for file management just not recovery programs/apps). Would decryption overwrite crucial data (file content of deleted files) or only higher levels?
Update: Ext SD Card was NOT encrypted
I unmounted ext sd card. Connected to PC via usb card reader.
The phone indicated that the card was encrypted but it was not. I see earlier threads here where this happenned in kit-kat and jellybean. Now, add lollipop.
What gives?
Galaxy Tab S ext sd card not encrypted
Device says the card is encrypted. I checked via card reader because of experience with phone. Same deal. Not just file names and metadata but file contents are recognized. NO encryption. Does the unmount make it readable? What's going on?

En(de)crypt SD card missing

Cannot find an option to encrypt SD card.
Only option I've found is Encrypt phone. If it means that SD card would be encrypted as well, why Decrypt SD card option is missing then?

What happens to the encryption key on forget sd card?

Hi guys,
Recently my sd card, formatted as internal storage, got inaccessible for the phone for some reason.
If "forget sd card" option was selected, does it wipe out the sd card encryption key from /data/misc/vold?
Does it make sense to root the phone and try to extract the key?
