One is internal memory and the other is your SD card
SD is internal ext is your SD card

/mnt/sdcard/ is internal memory? That doesn't make sense.
Why does that data disappear after removing the sdcard?

You may just be in the the wrong area. Check it again. The phone will always have a sdcard... external is the one that comes and goes.

I always see both.
Why are there two?

The phone cones with 16gb flash memory
A good amount Is allocated to the system/Rom
The rest is for you to use
Since there is about sd card port there has to be a way to differentiate them
Hence (internal)sd and ext(ernal)sd
This is much better than some old phones where it was like this
/sd was sd card and /sd/extsd was external sd card

Apps to external sd

I have a 32 GB micro SD card in my phone with nothing on it and I would like to move most of my big apps to it. How do I go about doing so?

That's what I figured I might as well sell this card
I would keep it. You can still keep all of your backup on the card and use it as storage so you internal sdcard will only be use for the apps

Is there a way to save s-notes to SD card?

Just curious I plan on using my note 2 to take notes in class and would love to not fill my internal storage.

I have not tried it, and this is off the top of my head.
You may be able to create a softlink (ln -s) from the internal card to point to the external card.

External to internal

Well first off, if I format SD card, is it the internal or external?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Format SD card is the external card you inserted into the phone. USB storage is the memory that is built into the phone when you bought it.

Some pictures save on the Internal SD storage. Not sure where you're looking or what you're looking at. When you say you have pictures saved on the card, were these pictures you took with the camera or transferred to the external sd card from a message or social media site? Are you seeing this from settings>storage>sd card? Need a little more information before any one can actually help.
All my pictures are save to the sd card, on the noticie bar it has a micro sd card with a! Mark on it

[Q] what does partitioning the extsdcard

I partitioned my extsdcard in CWM. I don't know what it does but i just did it cus i liked to play around. Does it increase the internal storage of the phone itself?
Ext is external so it probably wiped your external sdcard unless I'm mistaken

It splits up your external card into multiple partitions for compatibility reasons. It does not increase storage space for either.
