If you can boot into download mode you can use Odin
The button command is either
volume up plus power plus home
Or volume down plus power plus home
I nvr remember the right one cause well I don't use Odin that much
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
First, you need to download the stock tar to flash onto the phone from Odin. The Jelly Bean zip file is here: http://d-h.st/GVs
All credit goes to Skunk Ape for this file, I hope he doesn't mind me posting it here.
Anyway, once this is downloaded and extracted, make sure you have the s3 drivers installed then start up Odin. In Odin, click on PDA and search for the file you extracted from the Jelly Bean zip (ends in .tar.md5) Let it do what Odin does and you should see the PDA ticker checked. Now switch over to your phone.
To get into download mode, hold the power and volume down button until it boots into download mode. Press the volume up button to actually get into download state and plug in the phone to the computer.
Odin should recognize the phone and you will see a light blue color above ID:COM with things written in it. Make sure the tickers that say "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are checked and no other option in that region. Once you see that, click on "Start" and let Odin run. It should take around 5-10 min to flash and the phone should restart itself. If it worked correctly your phone should boot fine. If it doesn't, you could try running Odin again or it might be a hardware issue.
Hi
There's this Galaxy Note II (N7100) which the owner tried wrong patterns a lot and now the phone is locked and we can't use his Gmail account to unlock it. So I tried to get into Recovery Mode and do a hard reset. SO I turn off the phone hold 'Vol Down+Home+power' the phone turns on shows the samsung galaxy note 2 logo and after one or two seconds, instead of going into recovery mode that logo screen starts flickering (scrambling) and then nothing happens, the screen is black although I'm not sure if it's turned off. So now how can I hard reset? Thanks in advance

hey,try this "you will first have to turn off your device. Once it’s turned off, press volume up + power button + home button simultaneously and keep them pressed until you see the recovery mode. Once you’re there, get your hands off the buttons"

Thanks for the reply man. Well, that's what I've been trying for a long time. I tried it on my Galaxy S III and it worked instantly. But on this one it doesn't work no matter how long I keep the buttons down(I held it for 20 secs or so).

Go into download mode instead. Once there flash a custom kernel via ODIN and then reboot into recovery.

boot into download mode and flash philz recovery via odin . uninstall orevious drivers and fresh install samsung drivers and make sure usb debugging is enabled.
a detailed guide can be found here this will solve your problem of recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31801060&postcount=2
Note :
normally, phone should auto-reboot into recovery.
If it reboots into android and your recovery remains stock, repeat above steps and untick "autoreboot" in odin. Once flash is done, keep pressing power button until it reboots (normally will go to recovery)
when in recovery, if you choose option "reboot system now" and you get "yes - disable flash recovery", select that option to avoid stock recovery overwriting cwm

I understand this is a late post, but I hope you can help me out on this one. I have a different smartphone. I have successfully rooted my Galaxy Note GT-N7000, using Method 2 outlined in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217840
After trying to uninstall a Live Wallpaper using Titanium, my phone is experiencing a similar case as OP. I'm stuck at Samsung Galaxy Note GT N7000 logo.
MY QUESTION IS: will your recommendation work for me also? I am able to boot into download mode. I am confused though where to find "Philz Recovery" ??? Will it be also found where I downloaded the kernel when I rooted my phone?
I downloaded this file for rooting:
PhilZ-cwm6-JPLSB-UAE-5.11.2-signed.zip
over at:
http://d-h.st/users/philz_touch/?fld_id=23431#files
Is the Philz Recovery for use in Odin this one?
PhilZ-cwm6-XXLT9-ORA-5.11.2.tar.md5
I hope you can point me out to the right direction. I'm am quite new with rooting. And trying to save my once buttery smooth Galaxy Note I, GT-N7000 pre Jelly Bean.
Thanks,
Bryan
soft brick??? clueless
I think my lenovo a6000 plus has been softbricked as it doesn't get pass the logo screen. also recovery mode is not opening ( tried every combination). Help me with this. This phone has really checked up my nerves. the reason for flashing this phone as it had a problem of automatically downloading apps without consent, and video apps popping out in the middle of night(time service, monkey test apps), so the only best solution i found was to flash it( tried every other possibility- factory reset, password change...etc everything). Now it has died on me, can't get pass the logo screen. Also connecting the phone to pc gives me multiple drive partitions. Please help.

I have a soft bricked (hopefully) Galaxy Note II that scrambles at the startup logo screen and goes blank. I can hear the startup sound and all on startup but nothing on the screen. I have been at it the whole night trying to get it into recovery mode so I could wipe it clean and reinstall the firmware. Tried CWM, TWRP, Philz Recovery (all using Odin) but nothing can get the phone to startup in recovery mode.
I have reinstalled the firmware as well after rooting it with CF Autoroot (again using Odin). I am sure that I am using the correct versions for this model but I have reached nowhere so far.
Now, I have two constraints:
1. The USB debugging mode is probably not enabled (the phone belongs to an uncle of mine).
2. I cannot do anything or change settings on the phone as the screen is black.
Can someone please help me out with this and let me know how to go about fixing it?
Try this: download the stock ROM from sammobile.com, open Odin, uncheck everything except f.reset time. Flash the ROM. When you see the word reset in the status window, remove the USB cable from the phone, remove the battery, replace the battery, boot into recovery, factory wipe, and reboot.

If the advice above didn´t work (nothing happened when pressing the usual VOL down - home - power etc), this is how I managed:
I tried booting around 25 times with the power button released at different times. Did not work.
Tried to insert battery when pressing the 3 buttons. Did not work.
I let the battery run completely empty. Started charging the phone and pressing the 3 buttons. Did not work.
I charged the phone full (with booting the whole time....needed to put it somewhere quiet). After estimating it was full, I pulled out the battery, preparing to send it to mobiletechvideos.com (they saved me before). After a few hours I wanted to see the error message so I could write them. When I inserted the battery, I got the regular download mode! Nowthen, would I dare to boot it since I am not really sure what to flash to my phone?
I rebooted, and now the phone is back to normal. OTOH, I will not try to flash CWM/TWRP again, so goodbye custom roms (Omega )
you are a life saver!

The phone is fine now, it was just stuck on the loop and spamming home was the only way out, its fine now I've had no problems and it boots up fine
This happens...
This happens to almost everyone at some point of time. There is no need to worry as you just need to flash recovery like TWRP or CWM. To shed some light on this issue... boot loops mainly happen when you uses the incorrect version of software with your ROM or stock firmware. By using youtube you can look at the videos of your phone model and find the recovery version number needed.
For anyone who has a Note 3 T-Mobile phone who is still stuck! I am willing to make a video to show how to fix this and provide all the firmware/version numbers + links in one bundled location to make it easier.
ALL PHONES ARE VERY specific... ONLY USE THE CORRECT FIRMWARE FOR YOUR MODEL PHONE
Again, if you have a Samsung Note 3 T-Mobile, model number SM-N900T and are still lost. Let me know so I can shot a video and bundle files needed.

Don't be scared by this... just choose the correct versions before blindly trying to install a ROM. Also, only use links from main sources if you dont fell like auditing the code!
Hi guys, sorry for might be late about helping you now years later... But recently I've found something interesting about fixing this issue.
*****
Fix: (100% working in Galaxy Grand Prime SM-G530H)
UPDATED: More detailed info!
# Before flashed Recovery or Root:
1. Root device using Odin or any other rooting known workaround.
2. Backup Recovery (optional), and Kernel using Rashr (available on PlayStore).
3. Flash Custom Recovery (TWRP), using Odin PC software or TWRP android app.
4. Flash backed-up Kernel.img file to Boot partition using TWRP install section.
5. Reboot system (It may take a few time to boot)
# After flashed Recovery or Root: (accidentally or without knowing)
1. Search online and download your exact Phone Stock Kernel.
2. Follow *before flashed* above ↑ from 3rd.
Bonus info:
Even after flashing TWRP, you might be able to Boot device yet, by going to TWRP → Advanced → Reboot system. (It bypass bootlooping to Recovery, while: “Set Warranty Bit : Recovery”).
That's all! Try at your own, then share it!
So i decided to flash CWM recovery on my Note 3 via CWM (I had phillz recovery installed already), now the phone just wont boot up. It keeps saying Recovery Booting above the Note 3 logo for 2 seconds, then the phone restarts again showing the same message. I pulled the battery out and then inserted it back in but it boots the phone automatically with the same recovery booting message and restarts every 2 seconds. I cannot boot into recovery or put the phone in Download mode. Have I finally screwed my phone up? Any help would be very appreciated.
Can you Boot into download mode and Odin to stock?

I cannot. I have the battery of the phone out right now. As soon as i put the battery in the phone, it tries to reboot into recovery without me even pressing the power button. Then it again shuts off and tries to restart every 2-3 seconds.

Just some additional info, I flashed CWM recovery through Rom Manager. After flashing it, it asked to reboot the phone. As soon as the phone rebooted, i started having this issue.
I'm in a similar situation. I used to be able to use the phone controls (power-home-Vol Up) to be able to go into recovery mode, but even that has stopped functioning. The only way to get the phone to boot normally after that is to pull battery, put the phone in download mode and then cancel download mode to boot up normally.

I think the only way to get your phone into download mode now would be
to get a USB Jig from eBay or some online store.
They are under $5 bucks shipped.
Once you have that you would simply remove the battery from your
phone and then plug in the Jig before putting the battery back in.
The usb Jig is basically meant to be used for those
phones which will not go into download mode any
other way.
I have a Jig and as soon as it's plugged into the phone when the phone
is powered down it goes into download mode within 2-3 seconds.
Soon as its in download mode you can remove the jig and start a
clean Odin flash of the official stock firmware for your phone.
Good luck!

Thanks for that USB Jig suggestion. I guess that is my last hope.

Per suggestion from Misterjunky, I've now been successful in installing the Stock Tmobile 4.4.2 NB4 formware that I downloaded from sammobile. I used Odin 1.85 to install that on the Note 3. So far, the phone looks functional again.
So pressing power, vol down and menu doesn't get you into download? Have you tried holding them for at least 30 seconds?
I had this happen to me when I messed up flashing twrp. Pull the battery for 30 minutes, then put the battery in while holding power home and vol down.
That's what worked for me.
Sent from my leanKernel 2.5 powered stock 4.4.2 SM-N900T
I encountered the same issue after flashing CWM Touch to my SM-N900T (Note3-Aus) running Infamous Rom on the BioShock kernel. After being stuck in the loop for a fair while I removed the battery, went to grab a cup of tea before completely raging at the phone, went back and put the battery back in. The phone did not boot automatically this time, a good sign I thought to myself. I then went on to hold down VolumeDown + Home + Power to see if I could get into download mode. I successfully booted into download mode and selected the reboot option. My Note3 then went on to boot successfully. Hopefully this helps :fingers-crossed:
I recently had the same issue......heres step by step:
1. with the battery OUT, grab the usb and plug into phone and computer
2 press volume down, power, and home at the same time.you should be in download mode at this point, and just press volume up to get into download mode.
3. open kies. and at this point you'd want to restore back sto stock as follows:
4. go to tools, firmware upgrade and intialisation
5. follow the on screen direction and then just wait.
6. if you want to re root, then feel free to once the phone is up and running.
i have tried this method so many times and hasnt failed me yet. IF this has helped anyone, please press the thank you button!:fingers-crossed:
I resolved the problem by flashing the phone back to T-mobile stock using Odin. In my case, the recovery was corrupted and hence the issue. After flashing back to stock, I was then able to root and install a TWRP recovery successfully.

Same problem has happened to me, do you guys know if the jigs are universal? The ones I see on amazon and ebay dont list the note 3 at all so I just want to be safe. Since upgrading to nf9 the recoveries have given me major issues, TWRP was really buggy so I switched back to CWM and this happens.
Scratch that, just rebooted. I would still like to know if its universal though, in case this happens again. Doesnt hurt to be prepared

Note 3 (sm-n900w8) will not go into recovery mode after CWM Flash
Helllo Sorry if this is not in the proper place I have not had much experience posting.
my Phone is a Note 3 (sm-n900w8) Canada (rogers)
running Lollipop 5.0
base version n900w8vlu2doc4
kernel 3.4.0-4348112
[email protected]#1
build number ..... lrx21v.n900w8vlu2doc4
ap: n900w8vlu2doc4
I Flashed CF Auto root first (CF-Auto-Root-hltecan-hlteub-smn900w8.tar) All went well and I got root access
Then I Flashed CWM ( n900-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.0-kk_L5.0(0812)) and all seemed to go well but .. I could not get into
recovery mode. when I pressed vol up + Home + power key at the same time it went directly to download modes second screen..( the one that is ready for you to hit start on odin.) ...
I was able to reboot and try several times with the same result.
I then went and got the CWM app and tried to enter form there to only get stuck on the download mode without being able to reset.
then I flashed the CWM again and was back to being able to reset but not being able to get into recovery mode.
I updated CWM recovery setup from the app to the latest 6.0.4. and then tried to back up my current rom ... this let to a boot loop that said something like ..... Kernel is not seandroid enforcing...
once again I was able to get into download mode and had to re flash CWM and get back to my original problem ... not being able to get into download mode
Can anyone help me figure this out
Thanks

had stock rom on my 10.5 T-800
decided to root used Odin 3.09 and CF_AutoRoot_Port_T800_BeansTown106.tar to root
than download flashily (sp) and installed trwt newest one and flashed Blisspop 2.0 and Gapps 5.0.1 and Super Su 2.46
than after I went in to recovery and followed all the directions booted up logged on no issues
but today I was reading and decided I wanted to flash cm-12-20150203-UNOFFICIAL-nvertigo-chagallwifi
battery level was about 85% when I was hook up and transfer the cm-12-20150203-UNOFFICIAL-nvertigo-chagallwifi to my external SD
for some reason I went to download mode not recovery mode by the 3 button combo
so I tried to exit by holding the power button to no avail.
so I entered Odin and thought maybe just to run root again so it would let me exit Odin mode
after it flashed it exited and showed the red android and rebooted and went to a black screen as if it was going to boot back up and now I have nothing
I tried to turn it back on wont turn on
I tried the 3 button combo and then hitting up don't work
I plug it in to the computer and the computer make the connection sound but no icon for it
opened Odin and it shows green but wont do anything
is there something I can do beside sending it out to get repaired
thanks in advance

All you need do is press power + vol down and hold until the tab restarts. This is a hard reset and always works unless it's a hard brick.
You have only soft bricked.
As soon as it restarts try to enter recovery or download mode.

Sounds like you don't have a custom recovery on your Tab S. You can flash TWRP recovery in Odin and see if that helps.

Also you can try to use KIES 3 for restoration of your Tab. To do this, you should take only Download mode in your Tab. For this case I recommend to you to restore only original firmware according to the name of model and serial number of your Tab. Here you will find details how to do it:

Did you flash the TWRP tar file in downloadmode using Odin?
FIXED THANKS all for the help
Finally got it working
I tried to Odin TWRP and it didn't work I used the TAR file
I was able to DL the sammobile file for the Stock rom
Odin Flashed it first time it still had to use hard reset so I flashed it again after reboot it got stuck on Samsung splash Screen
did a 3 button to recovery wiped Cashes and factory reset then rebooted it again got stuck on Splash screen let it sit for over a hour (I had PT in the morning) and when I came back it was at the Samsung Master reset screen (initial start up)
than I rerooted, flashed and installed the ROM
Thanks again for all the help and being patient with me

Glad to hear that everything worked out for you. I was freaking out yesterday because I was just trying to run the auto root for my device and couldn't understand why odin refused to flash it. I ended up in adb sideload mode and thought it had locked up because I could not reset it at all. Luckily I did some searching on here and found out that holding power + home + vol up+ vol down would reboot it out of that mode.
Then I found out that while my adb drivers were installed properly for the device, they were not correct in download mode which was why odin didn't find my device. If I only would have checked device manager to see the big fat yellow ! It would have been clear but yes I am just a noob lol.
