Force MHL resolution? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

As I'm sure you may already know, the mhl adapter will only output 1080p video at 24hz, good for watching video, not so good for playing games. What I would like to know is this is there anyway to force the s iii to output a specific resolution through hdmi via mhl? I only have 1080p tv's in my house, I would like to use my s iii to play games on them. Is there anyway that I can make the s iii output at 720p when connected to my 1080p monitor so that I can enjoy the full refresh rate?

Achieve 1080p output through HDMI...

As the XOOM itself only seems to support [email protected] via the Micro-HDMI out, I was wondering whether the HD speaker dock (with it's upgraded speakers) also allows 1080p output via it's HDMI out? Anyone have it? Does it still only do 720p? If it's 1080p, then is it 60Hz or 120Hz?
Im going to have to go with no, it will not do 1080p out of the dock. all the dock would be is a micro hdmi extension, and HD just is referring to is the "HD" sound that you are now getting.
I dont think the Xoom will be able to do 1080p out being that the tegra 2 only supports up to 1050 lines i think.
but hey you never know with a little tweaking maybe some one can push 1080p out, but will never be a stock feature.
Yes, I am hoping that like the overclock of 1Ghz to 1.5Ghz there might be something similiar that can be done with the HDMI out somehow.
xoom looks great with hdmi out to my 24" monitor, but looks absolutely terrible on my bad ass 58" plasma. go figure.

3D via USB to HDMI connector?

Hi,
I was wondering if the Galaxy S2 is capable of playing 3D videos via the HDMI connector.
I like the feature of playing 1080p on the tv, but if i could play my 3d 1080p videos on my 3d tv it would be much better.
I found nowhere information about this, so i hope someone of you knows it or has already tested it.

it cant play 3d movies
This version specification of MHL (1.0) does not have 3D capability.
A future (next?) version will.
Therefore, no for the SGS2 for 3D MHL.
it depends on the technique used to make the video 3d.
if you have side by side 3d videos, the galaxy IS capable, because it is just a regular 1080i/p video and the tv makes it 3d, so it does not need special requirements in the device or the cable to make it possible. this would be the case for recordings of 3d tv, like anixe 3d or sky 3d (in germany). this is also the reason, why 3dtv does not need hdmi 1.4. it is just a regular 1080 picture, and the tv makes it 3d. for other techniques, codecs... this might not apply. in those cases it would not work, either because of the lack of hdmi 1.4 for a proper 3d handshake OR the lack of codecs in the device.
Ok thanks for all the helpful answers.
I have some .mkv files which are based on 3D origin. Some self recorded (avchd to mkv) and some by bluray origin.
Unfortunately i have no idea about the technique of the videos, whether if its side by side or not. I think they are not.
But anyways, i will order the connecter as soon as its availible and will report if it works or not
I have done a quick test and confirm that it does work. The .mkv was a side by side one and plays just like any normal video file. My TV can then mix the 2 together to get 3D.
The file I used was not a particularly good example, if anyone has a link to a test file they would like me try I would be more than happy to.
Since when Galaxy S 2 can record 3d with his camera ?
As far as I know it can't record 3d movies.
I recorded 3d movies with a 3d camcorder, not with my S2.
Im sure the Galaxy S3 will be capable of that.

Questions regarding official S3 MHL/HDMI output!

1) How do i fix the borders cut off in landscape mode when connected to TV?? If u look at youtube videos every user regardless of TVs have the screen bit cut off even thou phone's resolution is 16:9 720p?
2) Why does it display in 1080p not 720p (screen on galaxy s3 is 720p)? (my laptop using same hdmi cable without adaptor shows as 720p on TV) id like to be able to adjust it
3) My galaxy s3 heats up to 55 Celsius when playing with the phone and mirroring games. Is this normal? (although my alienware laptop heats up same also when connected to TV)
4) There is a abit of a lag between TV and a phone, the phone also seems to lag more when connected to TV (my laptop doesnt experience this)

Hey,
1) I have a Samsung TV and on my remote there's a button labeled 'P.SIZE', i'm guessing that stands for picture size. I keep pressing that button until 'Just Scan' appears on my TV, this adjusts the borders accordingly, basically, doesn't cut them off. I tried the exact same thing on a Philips TV and it didn't have 'Just Scan', the best i could do there is have the borders cut off but only by a little bit.
2) I'm not sure about this one but it's my understanding that, if your TV supports 1080p then the phone upscales to that resolution and if your TV only supports 720p then it displays at 720p. I think most of us would like to be able to adjust it
3) I think this is normal seeing as your phone is displaying it's screen...twice and in 1080p...while playing CPU/GPU intensive games + while on charger. (Yea, i'm not sure it's fair to compare a laptop with the S3 in that context)
4) I read some info on what could possibly be causing the lag...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1799157...They discuss how, when the S3 is connected to a 1080p TV, the S3 then displays the picture in 1080p at 24hz which apparently is good enough for videos but not for games. Whereas if you connect the S3 to a 720p TV it displays the picture in 720p at 60hz which apparently makes it less laggy. (Once again i don't think comparing an Alienware laptop with the S3 is just)

S3 as "HTPC"

I'm trying to hook my S3 to my TV setup and am not having much fun with it. With the MHL I am getting stuttering and lagging. I have:
Samsung MHL adapter (from Infuse)
Samsung 11-to-5 pin converter
Samsung 1080p HDTV
BT keyboard & mouse, charger, HDMI, etc.
Stock ROM
The image quality is good for web and photo use but it lags and stutters. For games it makes some games nearly unplayable. I can see the phone's screen and everything is smooth but looking at HDTV I can see a lag maybe 0.5 seconds and much slower update rate, very obvious when you move the mouse. The TV shows [email protected], so it's not 1080p. I've done a LOT of searching online so maybe there's not anything new to say but I guess some people have been able to get [email protected] I guess one thing I didn't find, does ANYONE have smooth/lag-free 1080p with S3 MHL with any adapter?
I wonder if 1080i video plays at true 1080 resolution because I noticed when I play back 1080i videos I've taken with the phone itself the image quality and speed are much better. Maybe that's why Samsung decided on 1080i output rather than 720p? I came across a kernel for HTC One S (which is also a Qualcomm S4) that supposedly forces 720p... is there one for the S3?
Another issue is that audio only comes out HDMI, I want it to come out of headset to plug into AV system. I've seen a lot of people with the problem posting but no solutions? Probably isn't possible...
My third problem I actually found an issue to. That is removing the onscreen keyboard when using bluetooth keyboard and mouse. For that I used the app Null Keyboard: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wparam.nullkeyboard&hl=en

Thought I'd pipe in. I am also trying to figure out if this MHL adapter allows 1080p video as I want to use it for watching movies on a 60" 1080p plasma TV, as I don't want to purchase it if it doesn't and the forums are very confusing on whether it does or doesn't.
I wanted to say about your second problem. If you want to pipe the audio to a stereo/surround sound system, all you have to do is plug the TV audio output into the sound system's audio input. This is how I have my laptop to TV setup currently: laptop HDMI-> TV; TV audio out -> sound system.
Just be aware, some TV"s or sound systems might not have compatible audio connections. For example, in order to hook up my Vizio sound bar to my Panasonic Plasma, I had to use the fiber optic cable.... didn't have audio RCA audio out on my Panasonic.
Thought I would amend my previous statement. I was assuming that you wanted the sound that goes with the TV only... However, if you are just looking to have music on without turning on your TV, you can get a cheap miniplug-to-RCA adapter from Radioshack or the like. Should probably cost around $10 on any given day. I've been doing this with my sound system and portable phone/players for years.
buy a dual/quad core HDMI "thumbstick" for $100.
It'll be better then what you are trying to accomplish

Quick question regarding micro usb to hdmi

Hey guys, my phone has the tv catch up app which displays all my TV shows in HD but on my TV it's not in HD and I'm using an ariel because I don't have satellite in my room. My question is if I got my phone hooked up to the TV with a micro usb to hdmi will it display full 1080p on my TV? and can somebody tell me exactly what I'll need cause I'm not 100% sure, I know you need a mhl adapter or something and that's about it
1080i Only, and 1080P movies dont look as good as my media box, they look more pixelated and a bit of frameskipping or slowdown (not that noticeable but bothers the viewing a bit).
Maybe would be different if the device output was 1080P (My TV and monitor are 1080P and on both is 1080i i can get)
But for games and 720P (or less) movies the speed is perfect
