Thanks for the tip, but you don't make the greatest advertisement for it. If you're on a G2 with the 1.8ghz overclock, yous hould be seeing 2500 quadrant+, closer to 3k... lol

Look in the SETCPU thread.
Only "bad" thing is that you have to push it to your phone yourself.
I'm getting 2552 quadrant at 1.49ghz

I don't know why I am getting low scores. I had higher scores on SENSE UI with the 1.8 kernel but with PERSHOOT I got higher scores.. Maybe I should try cyanogenmod once again and see the difference.
maybe its because I dont have a partitioned sd card?

With SetCPU (free) you can set your own profiles for many conditions on your device.
With my G2 @1.8GHz I've set SetCPU to put down my CPU to the minimum frequency when screen is off and my battery life is pretty good. Way better than my old Moto Milestone @1GHz.
Ouh, and on SetCPU you can even adjust some other additional parameters on how the CPU scaling will work... Play with them

You don't need ADB to install .apk files on your phone. Just use a file manager (free on the Android market) like Astro File Manager. Put the .apk file on your SD card, browse to it on your phone using the file manager, and install.

What does it mean when you speak of "quadrants"?
I have a T-mobile G2 running Cyan 6.1 and I have it overclocked to 1.4 using SetCPU.
Where can I find what quadrant I am running at? Do I need a specific app? Or am I missing something thats in the info section of SetCPU?
Thanks!

This kernal goes up to 1.8 GHz:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839687
And maybe some of the custom ROM chefs compile their own.
So, Im sure this was answered somewhere, and I searched all over.
With that said, why cant the Evo be overclocked past the standard 1.19 or 1.2? I know stability is an issue, but there are other ARM processors that can OC almost double. Is the Evo ARM processor just not able to handle anything past that?
Does anyone know?
Thank you for the insite
You cannot compare the processor in teh Evo to other similar processors. Every single processor is different, and overclocking the evo past those speeds could brick it.
Why would you want to overclock that far? The Evo has no ventilation and crappy power management, even with an extended battery. You're taking an already unstable system and pushing it to the edge. Not only will your phone overheat and freeze, but you can permanently damage the hardware.
I know every processor is different and each one has their own limits.
There is always a risk of bricking and damaging the actual hardware, but what im asking is, in theory, and a practical test, can you push the evo processor past the 1.19 that seems to be the limit (im not talking about going huge, but is there a possibility of being able to hit the 1.5Ghz?). Because there are certain frequencies that are not stable, but ones slightly past that could be stable.
Just throwing it out there.
A car traveling at 120 MPH is not as easy to control as a car doing the speed limit.
try it out n see what happens n then report back ur findings for others that have the same question and cannot find an answer anywhere

I would, but all the kernels that the Devs have developed have either a limit put on them, or they havent been able to allow it to OC that far

I was wondering this too. It would be nice to have the option to push it over 1.19ghz, I'll be the test dummy.
My Evo can handle 1228 fairly well but can tell its not as stable as say 1190. 1190 MHz is no prob...1267 usually crashes after a run or 3 in quadrant. 1113 runs niiiice for me and my 0004 evo

I can run 1190 just fine. Can a Dev possibly create a kernel that allows us to go past 1.2whatever.
I can't go up to 1.19 stabley
Gimme a couple a days to come up with a new sig that is cool.
if I pass 1190 endless bootloop.... then ya gotta be fast and turn that damn thing down
I can go to 1228 MHz with Tiamat but it will crash and reboot once you do a couple of things.

despite the meriad of answers you have gotten, I have been running my Evo on Sprint lovers Rom, and KiNgxKernel-Evo-12-BFS357-2.6.32.25-Flashable.zip for kernal.
I have been overclocked at 1267 since the day the kernal came out. it is singularly the only kernal that has allowed me to do this without ever crashing. OH, and I'm using
SetCPU 1267 on both min and max and scaling set to performance.

Not going too big? Going from 1.0 ghz to 1.5ghz on a phone is like going from a civic to a v8. Alot of computer cpu's dont even overclock 500 mhz. I think you're expecting a little too much from a phone. If you want more, go buy a dual-core cpu atrix 4g or something. I'm a speed freak myself when it comes to cpu overclocking (mainly on computers) but 1.113 is plenty for a phone. It even runs fine at 600mhz. Dont get me wrong, it would be cool to get it that high, but your phone would hate you lol

How did you overclock the CPU? I have tried the setCPU and it does not work, I have my Phone rooted, installed the crazy UNleashed rom (since uninstalled) and could not get the setCPU to overclock. Even though UNleashed is made to do that, and I have read others getting over clocked. I am running Synergy now, which I do not think it can Overclock the EVO, but I would like to know how you fine folks are accomplishing this. I would love to go 1.1 right now.

What's a safe level to overclock my phone to? I'm running the latest MIUI (1.9.16) with the lastest Tiamat kernel (1.1.3) I'm at about 1344 MHz right now. Can I go much highter?
Sent from my rooted, MIUI DInc2
From my testing, I've found there isn't to much to be gained going over 1.6ghz.
For a safe level I keep mine at 1.2 ghz. This has worked out well for me. Try different frequencies and see what works out for your needs.
I'm running JDKernel with the max set at 1.5 ghz, using the smartass governor. When I look at the "time in state" info, it usually shows about 75% of my time spent at 768 mhz. Seems to be working great.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
Well, I tried bumping it up to 1.6, and I locked my phone and the screen turned off, but the keys stayed on, and it wouldn't come back up. So I pulled the battery and went back to 1.3 like it was before. Now its working great. I'm on smartass v2

If your having lockups, try installing Incredicontrol from the market and bump up the voltage on the higher frequencies 25-50mv, this should keep you from locking up. I do this when I use the performance governor and want to run Quadrant or Linpack .

So, you don't know about for Tiamat? I'm using that one.
Plus, would anyone recommend using his Incredikernel as well?
I'll go about the same on the Tiamat. I usually will start at 50 mv over whatever the stock setting is on the kernel when running performance runs.
I didn't know that Chad had done a Kernel for Aosp romed Dinc2's. I know his Dinc1 Kernels were great.
I accidently had my phone at 1.9 for a day running jdkernel, no crashes or anything
Atm when my phone is charging, it gets bumped up to 1.4 and i have no issues at that speed.
I thought I would try CPU Master Free to underclock as I don't game or do anything CPU-intensive often, and I don't really notice much change. I have it set to 800mhz max, set at boot, and it doesn't seem to have improved overall battery. Am I doing something wrong? Is it moreso a voltage thing?
There are so many different things that effect battery life. The cpu might have not been sucking down that much juice as it is. Could be your screen, brightest, an app in the background, etc that's giving you bad battery life.
What did it for me was setting the cpu idle setting in juice defender ultimate to 500mhz, with ondemand.
I guess you can use any program, but this was the setting that finally gave me all day battery life.

What ROM are you running? I read on the Calk forum that in FC24 he removed the Tegrak power saving settings because the phone likes to lock up below 800 MHz on ICS.
Speaking of which, it seems opening my camera freezes the whole phone now. I wonder if thats related...
Edit: Set it back to 1200mhz max, and the camera works fine again -_-

The release notes here for Calk's v1.3a mention that he removed the 800 MHz underclocking due to a kernel issue.

Thanks for checking out my question! ^^b Okay down to business; My e4gt is being a hassle with overclocking. When I want to improve performance for the hell of it just to see how well it does, my phone "resists" being overclocked by Tegrak and Antutu overclock, and reboots. I don't know how to get it to work since I'm still pretty new to all this but I have heard from PhantomHacker's Blazer v4.1 ROM page that Tegrak is acceptable with the stock EL29 kernel that comes with it, but it's not, it reboots when I try to set it high.
It might be something I'm doing wrong, if so please correct me, but if it isn't I'd appreciate the assistance! Thanks again for at least looking at my issue!
I almost forgot as well, I'm using Team Rogue's "Gunslinger" kernel currently but I've tried to overclock on both without success.

First thing, how high are you trying to go? 1.7? Some phones don't like overclocking, some go higher than others and some can do max. If your only going a step or two above 1.2 and get reboots that's uncommon. Now if you go high, try setting it lower. Like epix4g said use setcpu with gunslinger and see where it set. The highest mine will go is 1.4, any high it reboots.
Try raising the cpu voltage at those frequencies that have random reboots or laggy behavior. Otherwise, your cpu may not be able to clock that high. Not all cpus are equal.

No I was just doing 1.4-1.5, also when I try to over clock it it lags. How do I increase voltage? All I can find is antutu CPU. Set CPU is $2 in the market.
