What is a good QR generator that is not online but actually installs on your computer? I dont like the online ones as it says on the page these will be made public and not for private....I want to do the same thing as the online ones but locally. The couple I have tried are not as easy as online like you just enter text in a box and hope for the best, no formatting like for vcard and the like, I want to pick Contact or SMS, etc for instance and have it all where you just put the info in each blank and it creates the code for you formatted correctly. Is there such a beast that is free?

I'm not sure I fully understand your adversity to online ones: Is it a concern they save your QR codes/display them to others? The most flexible online generator I use is http://keremerkan.net/qr-code-and-2d-code-generator/ and it works very well.
Also, from his FAQ:
Q: Do you harvest the information I enter to this form?
A: No, I don’t use the information you enter to this form in any means. After you create your 2D Code, the information is removed from my server.

I dont trust the online sites plain and simple, just because that one site claims that doesnt mean much to me, one of the biggest ones states on the page that the info you input is public and not for private. So again thanks for the link, but I specifically want an offline install to do this.

Try this one, I tried it and it works fine. You do have to activate it first though once you install it.
Try QRdroid. Not sure if it does what you want or not.

I think QRdroid goes to some online site because it says Enter Webpage to Encode.

Definately just made a QR from a contact directly on the app. You only have to upload it if you want a url.

Here is a barcode generator in .net. (businessrefinery.com/products/barcode_net/net_barcode_generator.html)
You just need download the DLL to be added as reference.
Both the C# and VB.NET are supported.
Meanwhile, you can adjust its properties based on needs.

All contacts with the same name would automatically merge on the phone, although they are different people (with the same name)
Does anyone know how to stop the contacts merging ?
You mean, they have same name and surname?
In that case, you can use their miidle name or nickname.

But the database is used for business so they don't have nicknames and a lot of them don't have middle names, so the only way is if there's a way to turn it off or remove the code to do it
let me try to sum what you are trying to say
1. Xavier Spencer 12321456
2. Xavier Spencer 13546798
i dont really think this is a problem "frankly". just my opinion ....

I'm not being funny...but exactly how many people with the same first AND last name do you have on your phone?
Seems like a pretty rare problem. I've seen people with the same name on the Exchange server at work and they all then have to provide a middle initial. Failing that we all have our departments abbreviation at the end of our name.

I got contact pictures for every person, so yes I do know the difference between them, but when they merge I can no longer recognise each person
And you all have your opinion whether you think this is an issue or not, but I'm just simply asking does any of you know how to stop it, I don't care whether you think there's a need to stop it
Just put the company name as Lastname.
So Mr Joe Another from Contoso Corp would be
First Name: Joe
Last Name: Another Contoso
Whilst Joe Another from Kebabs Limited would be
Joe
Another Kebabs
?
I wish I could do that with them all, I'd be happy with that, but my dad has the same annoyance and he has a bit of OCD so it's all got to be perfect
If no one knows, I'll try opening up the APK later and try stopping it myself

Once again you appear to have missed the question...
Anyway I think the point is that most non-android handsets would ask if you wanted to merge the contacts or create them separately instead of assuming they should automatically be merged. This isn't specific to just business contacts, my father and I have the same name (which by no means is an uncommon occurrence) so anyone with an Android handset would have both our numbers in the one contact. This is far from ideal and although there may be workarounds such as nicknames, there should be a better solution.
Try this:
Create new contact with same name.
Save contact then open it.
You should see link icon in the top right corner.Click on it,then select Clear suggestions.
After that, you will have 2 contacts with same name.
Just tested for myself. It works!

Yeah I was stoked about it at first, but this app royally blows. It's seriously NO different than opening your browser on the phone and going to docs.google.com. You still can't edit formulas in spreadsheets (a must since I do my budget on there), and the editing interface is just as bad as the web page, in that you click on a line, have to edit only 1 line at a time and have to save it after editing. Why not just let us edit the cells individually? Thanks for finally getting around to mediocrity Google.

The app is supposed to be able to perform OCR on text photographed with the phone. Anyone get this to work very well? Every time I've tried it (on different forms of source text) it just one line of the text, or a few scattered letters. Seems like it could be a handy function, if it worked.

Ah yes, that is a VERY useful thing! Glad to see that there are indeed more features. I just tried it and it's actually very good; I just scanned a page from a book, and although it has a few odd formatting problems, the text was almost perfect. Nice job Google.
So . I got a new auto ins company and had to cancel my old policy . I called and they wanted me to come in and sign the papers. They are about 35 mins north of me. Did not want to make that drive. WAIT I HAVE A NOTE 2 WITH S PEN!!!! I asked would it be possible to send those docs in .pdf to my email? Certainly it was . She sent me the email. Now I was in samsung apps to see what "best Spen apps " they had and I cam across signdoc mobile. This is a .pdf / doc viewer that allows you to sign commerce grade signature < meaning your real sig not just typed letters > in sig fields on official docs. So I opened the .pdf signed the doc saved it and then it has a attach to email option , attached it sent it back off. Called to verify it'd worked < cause it had been the first time id used it and wasnt sure I did everything right. > . And the lady says " Wow , you did this from your phone? thats your real signature! " and I explained the note 2 and spen an sign doc mobile. She filed the paperwork cancelled my policy.
So right off the bat My beloved note II has just saved me 10 bucks in gas and the hastle of having to goto their office. God I love this thing.
Glad you find it useful. I have yet to find something, I'm sure there will be. I have not explored the s pen. But I still love the N2!

Well as I said I had it emailed so I imported it that way by downloading it . Open signdoc it goes to a demo page then you look to the top of the window and you see a folder , click on that and I think you can scan right from there if it doesnt find it automatically . Once the document is open on the top right corner you see a pencil . Click on that it opens a box you can re size the box for the size of the sig field. And once you have it sized center the box over the sig field base line and click on the check on the top left of the sig box you opened and then it will open another window where you will actually sign . Once you sign and hit or click the check I forget which youll goback to the document and see a box over the sig. If the sig is good then you hit the menu button on the top left above the document and hit save or save as or attach to email . If the sig isnt placed right then hit the - button on the sig box and re position the sig box and do over .
It's a very good app came in handy. I drive a semi OTR only home 2 - 3 days a week, I just changed payment method for AAA had to sign a document, told my agent to email it to me, &I'll sign on my phone. Very simple, very fast.

I know this was asked before, I've looked at the threads. How about getting an answer this time? I'm going to give an example so you can understand my problem if you don't. If i'm in an app like Facebook and a friend posts a link to Youtube, a box come up that says complete action using with a few choices of apps to choose from, none of being the Youtube app. I've included an attachment of the screen shot. How do I get Youtube to appear on that list of complete action using? Is there a code? if there is a code, where do I put it? Is this the right code....Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("vnd.youtube://" + id);
startActivity(intent);

I believe it has to do with the link itself. A lot of times, even though it says you're going to youtube, the link facebook is actually using is a facebook link.
For instance, my wife is a teacher and chipotle was giving out free burritos to all teachers a week or two ago. The link she shared was supposed to be:
ra.chipotle.com/email/13-all-019/13-all-019.htm

It should be easy to see that even though your friend links that crazy cat video directly to youtube, facebook will add their http://www.facebook.com/l/[gibberish]/ to the front of it. When your phone tries to open that link, it sees it as the browser would, to a website (facebook.com), not to youtube. That's why it only gives you browser options, not youtube options.
The problem with trying to set youtube to "see" those links is that this is how facebook links any page. Assuming you could add an intercept to "http://www.facebook.com/l/" to open in youtube (or at least include it in the open prompt), that'll mean all facebook links will have that prompting. That shouldn't be too much of an annoyance, though.
All that being said, I don't know how to add that "intercept" so that youtube is on the prompt. Maybe others can tell you which files to modify.
True...I interpreted it as him just saying that YouTube links would not come up with YouTube in the list
But if you wanted to change it and then choose yourself which links should be open in YouTube, you'd need to change the BroadcastReceiver in the AndroidManifest.xml of the YouTube app to receive all links

Interesting. I'm trying to look through that file on my computer, but my xml editors (read: notepad and notepad++) don't seem to like that file.
But from your explanation, I'm beginning to see that each individual app determines if it's involved in an action. I was hoping there was a mod or app that could "intercept" the requests and let you edit the list right then and there. I was thinking more like Window's "Open with..." command where you can choose any .exe to open a given file. But it appears that you have to modify the apk itself.
If you select the browser ie:dolphin it will then open up the box giving you the choice to select you tube. That is because the link was posted through the browser. If at the point you get to the box with the you tube choice you select it as default it should work from that point on unless you clear cache.

Yup, apps define what actions they wanna receive (scientific term is "Intents" )
And you decompiled the apk first, right?
If it's not specified in the manifest, I don't know of any other way to do it/force it

It seems like a dev could make an app that does just that, though. It could be called "Link Chooser" and it's manifest.xml would indicate that all links open in that program. It would then have it's own whitelist of installed apps and you could indicate which apps you want to open based on link type... I don't even think it'd have to have root access.
Ooohhh, if I had more expertise with android programming, I'd totally make that app and it'd sell like hotcakes on the Play store.
Hi guys. Thanks for the good job done to make this app. I downloaded it yesterday, and am now playing around.
When you code, where do you write it down? Because I find it not practical using my HOX to type the codes.
I was wondering whether you are using the textboxs within this app, or you type it in your laptops and afterwards transfer it somehow to your mobile phones.

I write most of my code directly on the device because it's fun to play around and come up with ideas. It also helps to debug the code and get instant response to your inputs.
If you want to write the bulk of your code on your computer instead, I would recommend a service like pushbullet. It makes it really easy to get text from your browser to your phone
