Crystalusion Liquid Glass Protection - Galaxy S II Accessories

Well I have my hands on the new Crystalusion Liquid Glass and I am in the process of writing the UK's first official online review of the product. So far I have applied the product to the screen of my one X which was incredibly easy.
The product protects against abrasion as well as bacteria and is invisible

Sounds amazing!!! Can't wait for it to come out so I can try it.

This looks rather interesting!
How well doe's it repel finger prints and smudges?? From the video on your site it looks like the ideal product for people who don't like traditional screen protectors!
G

Seems quite good with fingerprints but any that do appear seem to wipe off easier. I'm really impressed with it so far.

Do you have a link for this on amazon? I can't seem to find it
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

I can't see it on there now either. Was only a limited amount.
Still available on eBay by the looks of it

Really interesting..
If it is simple as that it's worth a try
Even though, don't you think it can have some placebo effect on it?

Hey,
after few days of testing, can you give some feedback?
Is it worth 10 GBP ? (7+3 for international shipping)

Just ordered via eBay. I'll come back with review after few days testing. :fingers-crossed:

So does this protect the screen from scratches?

I bought this and applied to my phone earlier.
Came as two small foil packets and a small dry wipe. In one of the foil packets is a strong alcohol wipe which you use to clean to screen. The second packet is then opened and there's another alcohol-smelling wipe which contains the nano liquid crystal formula, this is then wiped over the area you want to protect and the dry wiped used to 'buff' and dry the surface. I found while I was handling the 2nd wipe containing the formula I could feel a coating on my fingers. The surface then needs to be left to dry for 5 minutes, thought the information on the box says that full protection isn't reached until 24 hours has passed.
So far I my phone looks and feels like I has no screen protector on it at all - which is what I prefer, you forget how much image quality you lose when you use a screen protector (i've used several expensive ones and they've all have some degree of picture degradation). I've been using the phone all day and had it in my pocket, and so far so good! I've not really had a chance to test the protect extensively, but it appears to me to just act as a thin coating to slightly improve the scratch resistant properties of the gorilla glass screen. I speculate that there will be an increased resistance to minor thin scratches, but there will be no real impact on big deep scratches. We'll have to see how this measures up as time goes on.

Have you ever use SGP Ultra Cystal or Glass Screen Protectors? I'm using a glass screen protector now and it is awesome.
Also, how many applications can you make with what's included?

Crystalusion is now available from http://www.expansys.com/crystalusion-liquid-glass-protection-2-pack-235269/
Thanks

I used the ultra crystal for a bit, I can definitely tell the difference between using a screen protector and using my phone naked or with this crystalusion stuff. Now i've taken the screen protector off I feel like i'm using a new phone, its so much sharper and more vivid.
The crystalusion has been applied 24 hours and been in my pocket with various bits and pieces, no scratches at all yet.
[waffle] From the smell I assume the wipe contains a compound dissolved in an alcohol solvent (probably denatured ethanol), this is wiped all over the phone and when the alcohol evaporates a thin layer of the protective compound is left. I don't know this for certain and can't find any documentation to support this, but i'm a chemistry masters and that's what the wipe looks and feels like to me. With this in mind, to answer your question I think you could apply the crystalusion as long as the wipe is moist, which is quite a while. There would be no point in applying a layer, waiting for it to dry, then applying another to possibly make a thicker more resistant coat, because this would just dissolve the layer you just applied (which poses the question, would dipping your coated phone in ethanol remove the coat (not that I expect anyone to dip their phone in ethanol)). [/waffle]
I expect you could coat several phones with one package, at least 3 .. you could probably coat about 2 iPads.

Very nice. AFAIK, each 'purchase' comes with 2 packages right?
Also, I believe that this liquid protection only provides a low level of anti-scratch properties. It is more of the anti fingerprint properties that I am after, I wonder if you could apply this onto a screen protector to confer upon the protector anti fingerprint properties. Do you know if this coating adheres to plastic?

There's two packages, one containing an alcohol wipe and one containing the crystalusion wipe. I've long used and binned my wipe so I can't test it again. I found the crystalusion facebook page and it looks like this is a product that's been about for a while, but previously used to coat things like childrens toys (anti-bacterial properties) so I assume it will cover just about anything non-porous. As far as anti-fingerprint properties go it's very good, better than any screen protector i've used, though it will still leave a mark if my hands are particularly clammy/greasy. This easily wipes off, for instance with my t-shirt.

Hey guys, my order arrived yesterday and as i told you on 16th August here i'm back with my small review.
I'll make it as short as possible:
As "Forsh" also told before the package includes 2 small sachets. No #1 for cleaning, No #2 with Liquid Glass solution. At first i cleaned my phone with a soft cloth to wipe the dust off the display. Next step was the cleaning with the micro cleanser. After 2-3 minutes of drying i opened sachet #2 and applied the Liquid Glass solution. After further waiting for 5 minutes to let the solution dry i had a look at my display.
It looked like a cleaned display with striation. I took the soft-touch cloth to remove the striation. Finally the display looked like before. Simply cleaned and free of dust and fingerprints.
(I just left my phone by side to let the solution act for a while.)
The result after few hours:
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING CHANGED!!!
I just took my phone and handled for a while to see if fingerprints are visible anymore or if something has changed. But absolutely nothing happened to my phone.
Currently i'm not more than dissapointed about the (forseeable) result.
Guys, how should such a solution work? You apply some strange liquid stuff on your display and it's safe and free of fingerprints for at least on year? NOPE!!!
The tip of the iceberg was as i read on the package "Manufactured in Germany". Why the f*** did i order from UK?
MY FINAL RECOMMENDATION:
Safe the money for this purchase and buy a anti-dust cloth to clean your display several times when it's dirty. Occasionally cleaning can be made easily by rubbing your phone on your pants or your shirt. In the matter of Scratches: As my knowledge the SGS2 has gorrilla glass, so no need for a extra-protection.
Maybe somebody else has tipps and tricks how to handle CRYSTA(IL)LUSION the right way.

Hi Nagelo, thanks for your post. Crystalusion is a nanotech product that coats your device with a 100nm coating of pure glass. The glass is carried in ethanol because it’s fast drying at ambient temperature and makes the application process faster.
There are a couple of important steps that need to be completed to ensure your device is correctly coated.
Firstly the ethanol cleaner in sachet 1 should be used continually to clean your device until the cloth is dry – typically this will take about 90 seconds.
Secondly the device should be coated with Crystalusion using the cloth in sachet 2, again this should be done continually until the cloth runs dry, again this will take about 90 seconds. The reason for continually using each cloth until it runs dry is to ensure you have sufficiently coated your device with the Crystalusion layer.
The application can be multidirectional (unlike other liquid protectors which must be applied in the same direction) but it is important to continually use the cloths until they are dry. Once you have finished the application process you can handle your device lightly after 5 minutes, we suggest ‘lightly’ because it takes 12 hours for the layer to completely form (it’s a good idea to apply it last thing in the evening so the layer can set while you’re sleeping). It’s recommended that you use each application of Crystalusion for a single device to ensure proper coverage.
I’m sorry about your recent experience using Crystalusion – given your comments I believe your device hasn’t been correctly coated owing to your description of the application – your comments are helpful and from now on we will be including prescriptive application instructions inside the packs.
As thanks for your input and in order for you to experience the benefits of Crystalusion I’ll message you privately and send you another pack which you can reapply using the above method.

Display protective film

Hi i've found in Toch package one film with the same shape of display, someone know if this are spare part or is additional protection and should be placed?
Today my friend show me his Htc touch with this "film" placed and so is start discussion with him about the use destination.
Thank you in advance.
It has to be placed as it is called a screen protector. Not using one would lower your PDA resell value has you will probably get scratch on your screen after a few weeks.
Be carefull when setting this up, as it need a very clean screen, and a dust (nearly) free environment. A bathroom after a hot shower is the perfect place to set this up.
Yes, it is a screen protector. It is a bit ticky to fix. To make it easy to align you may sprinkle some water on the adhesive side and apply to the screen and align. Gently press out thewater with a stiff paper and also to displace air pockets. If some water droplets still remain under the sheet do not bother. It will all dry out within 3 days and result in a clear bright screen.
Thank
thank guys, was thinking is spare part because the default protections of display look like removable and so i've supposed replacement part.....but wasn't
Ok just placed
I'll have mine by the end of the week.
I store mine in my pocket and it seems the protector would peel off from repeatedly taking it in and out of your pocket since the screen is flush.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Does anyone knows if these HTC protectors (not some cheap 'fits all' protector) can be bought seperately? I applied mine right after i've got my phone it but was a bit sloppy with all the excitement and when re-fitting it some dust got underneath it, leaving me small airbubbles. If anyone has a link to how/where, it'd be much appreciated.
you can remove it, wash with some soap and then apply it once again, no need to buy a new one.
The HTC ones can be removed, washed and re-applied too? Can someone confirm this, coz I only read this could be done with the better ones from expanys or something
where to buy protector film?
T-mobile told me to go to dangaard.com
but i can not find the accesory's for the touch and the site is only for store's
so i went back to the the store asking if they can order the screen protectors for me the did not want to order it for, but i got one extra from there demo model, so my tip is.. go to shop and ask if they have spare protector from the demo model
How about the exim screen protectors? I have heard that those are "high quality" films... (pda-now.com)
expansys has some good ones, PPCTech and ORA: http://www.expansys.com/a.aspx?i=149713&atype=SCREPROT
Proporta ones are decent too www.proporta.com
Wondering if anyone try this
http://cgi.ebay.com/CP-FULL-BODY-SC...ryZ15036QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Really want to know how good they are, they claim to be totally protective. I am a bit skeptical, any thoughts?
I have been very happy with these skins from Boxwave. Very easy to slip on when needed. Used these with my Trinity as well. I have not tried the ones with the cover. The Touch with skin is still smaller than the Trinity.
http://www.boxwave.com/products/flexiskin/flexiskin-htc-touch_2727.htm
Edit:
Just noticed they offer a Skin + ClearTouch screen protector package
http://www.boxwave.com/products/bun...skin-and-cleartouch-bundle-htc-touch_2727.htm
This is something similiar to what I post earlier, they warrant for the life of your device that you will never get a single scratch on it after you provide their full body protective film. Wouldn't this be cool, without the bulk of a case, yet, still achieve the same protection. If anyone have a chance, browse thru their site ,they have a video demonstration to show u the force thatf film able to withstand.

I'm interested to know this too, is washable?
Some photos...
I personally don't like the front cover, the shiny effect doesn't look right in this phone (at least for me), the back cover is fine....
The installation is more or less easy, after some minutes the covers really stick to the phone, if you don't like the result you can remove very carefully the covers, wash them and repeat the process again
Pros:
- Removable and washable.
- Resistant (apparently).
- Inexpensive.
Const:
- A bit shiny for my taste.
- Good for scratches but not to drops

Talking about the original HTC protective film... Yep! it is washable

man! are u really serious. i mean a bathroom and especially after a hot shower wud be the last place i wud attempt to do something like sticking a protective film on my PDA. i mean think a little science man. after a hot shower condensation [stage when the vapor above cools back to liquid] is surely a threat inside a bathroom, and while you try to stick the film, condensed vapor or mist to be precise might come in between your pda and the film. then all you will ever have is a smudged all white screen which you cant wipe off even, cos its between the layers.
so i m jus telling you cos i had seen a lot of incidents like this specially where hot vapor just cooled off is around!!!!!
No harm done! Just my scientific mind thinking a lot!!!!!!!
.....
i did a post some days ago about shieldzone. i used the invisible shield for a couple of days and the only thing thats really terrible is the reflection of the cover, as you can see in the pix abough.
so i searched again for a good display protection and bought a product from 3M, named vikuiti, armr200. for me its the best i ever saw.
# Anti-Fingerprint Layer
# 2 times Anti-Reflection Coating
and a very strong material.
i tried a lot to scratch the layer, but it was not possible.
Look at this, its a german site. if you google for it you'll find a site in your language for sure.
http://www.schutzfolienscout.de/vikuiti-armr200-schutzfolie.html
I have the 3M Vikuiti, armr200 for my Fujitsu P1610. It works quite well, not totally clear like those crystal clear type films, so you will lose some contrast and clarity, but for anti-reflective, it's the best you can buy. (and it's quite pricey).
One bad thing is that it reduces outdoor visibility quite a bit, you'll need to crank your backlight for outdoor use.
And it still shows fingerprints, actually they are quite noticeable due to the AR layer, but it's much easier to clean than other AR coatings.
One thing though, unless 3M is going to make one specifically for the HTC Touch, it will be a PITA to cut to the proper shape, since the clear cover is not a rectangular shape.

I wouldn't worry about it, I've used the steamy shower "poor man's clean room" technique many times, never had an issue with condensation stuck under the film. If anything, any liquid will help to avoid air bubbles and can be squeegeed out. Some films (namely 3M's paint protection films) require liquid to install properly.

Clear Protector for Xoom -- 50% off code + Free shipping

Hi all-
Waited until I got a chance to apply this thing before I wrote a review. This is a full-body skin like skinomi or invisible shield. It's a wet application, so if that scares you, don't read further. It was my first wet application, and I'll say I probably won't ever go back...
I used this only on the back; for the front I wanted a matte skin (to reduce glare and fingerprints). It comes in 5 pieces; 1 for the front and 4 for the back. Again, I only used the ones for the back. Here's my review:
1) This was the best screen protector experience I've ever had; also my first on a tablet and my first wet application, so that's saying something.
2) Wet application took about half an hour; most of that was spent holding down the edges as it dried. If you don't hold down the edges, the protector doesn't go around the edges. The wet application required only a bowl of soapy water, no solutions. I turned on a daily show and watched it while I worked.
3) During the application, I got several bubbles. This is one of the reasons why wet application is so much better: every bubble was worked out in just a few seconds. Also, unlike a dry application, the thing isn't covered in static, so you aren't attracting every bit of dust in the area to your skin. I think I ended up with one imperfection: a bit of cat hair. I'm pretty sure my cat planned that. The small bubbles from the soap were gone after an hour or two.
4) The other major advantage of wet application: you can readjust the protector once it's on. My protector is so perfectly aligned that you can't tell there's anything there if you didn't know that the original back cover is brushed aluminum.
5) Once applied and drying, I let the whole thing sit for a few hours before touching it again, to avoid accidentally shifting the skin. Instead of the brushed aluminum, now I have nice, grippy plastic on the back. It gets fingerprints but no more so than the unprotected back, and with this thing on I have no problem using a regular cloth to wipe it.
6) Like I said, I didn't put it on the front because I wanted a matte cover, but I'm considering it now... The matte cover is far better for fingerprints but it does affect the usability of the screen (less responsive, requires a heavier touch). Since it means throwing it away, I'll leave the matte skin on for a bit...
Overall, I'd say this was a great purchase. Oh, and I almost forgot: I got it for half off! Normal price is $36 for the full-body protector or $25 for the screen; this code will get you half off plus free shipping (code works for everything on the site):
http://www.clearprotector.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=xoom&x=0&y=0
and the code is: iwantultra
(just for clarity--I am not affiliated with this company in any way)
Give thanks if this helps you!
Thanks!
Just brought full body protectors for the Xoom and Galaxy Tab for only $33 with free shipping.
The only thing missing seems to be the spay to apply the cover, but this is a minor issue.
EDIT: Also thanks to OP for the excellent guide. I'd just like to add that I normally leave the device powered off for 12 hrs after using any liquid method, to prevent any possibility of water damage.
You can apply the cover in the evening and leave it to dry through the night.

Should have added this to the original post:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-hN4PHDfsg
Use lots of water, make sure the whole surface is covered, but then let it drip until theres not much left. I didn't use enough water to have any worries of water damage to my xoom (almost nothing comes out from the edges), but you need to get complete coverage or you could get a bubble that wouldn't come out.
Do exactly like the video; make sure your workspace is open and clean! (like, really clean!) Wipe it down first, then lay out a clean dish towel. Use the dish towel to wipe the little bit of water from the edges. You can use the dish towel to hold the plastic to the curved edges too.
ZAGG sells a similar kit that includes a solution in a spray bottle. As well, you can also order the kit with a graphic pattern on it either from the shop or your own custom work, thereby giving you protection with a good grippy surface AND cool graphics to customize your tablet. Ill post a picture of mine later.

[Q] Cleaning the screen

The A100 seems to pick up smudges more than anything else I own.
My phone, which is smaller but otherwise looks nearly identical and shares a Gorilla Glass screen, doesn't pick up fingerprints nearly as easily nor obviously.
I've tried cleaning with an eyeglass cleaner (which works great on the phone), a drop of liquid hand soap and others and nothing seems to be a particularly good solution.
I've generally use a soft microfiber cloth, although I've experimented carefully with cotton terry and soft paper.
Has anyone found anything that cleans well and perhaps resists smudges?
Ever tried a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and distilled water? That and a paper towel picks up oils very well, and if you don't douse the paper towel with the solution leaves it nice and shiny. Nothing I can think of which resists smudges, at least not until the Max Planck institute manages to make that soot-derived coating work.
I use a foaming automotive glass cleaner and a paper towel.
The smudges were bothering me terribly, too, until I added a GreatShield matte screen protector a couple of months ago. Since then, reflections are greatly diminished, and smudges a thing of the past.

Got the same thing, works great. Definitely reduced glare, and much less fingerprints showing after use. I normally just use a slightly damp microfiber cloth to wipe when I need to.
Thanks for the replies.
Even though the screen is Gorilla Glass, I didn't think of using an actually glass cleaner. Too much Plexiglas in my life, I guess.
I found one automotive cleaner/shiner in my garage that works okay, but ordered the matte GreatShield today. I'm just hoping I can get it on cleanly without dust underneath.
I've been disappointed with skins on my phone. (Clarivue and Zagg were two brands that were both a waste of money with inferior products and poor customer service.)
Screen cleaner
I use Monster cleaner the I got from Best Buy.
Cleans really nice, cuts down the glare and finger smudges are kept at bay for days.
i use Endust LCD and Plasma wipes
i wipe off the excess moisture with whatever those little screen cleaning rags are called
it gets my screen squeaky clean

Yep LCD pannel cleaner spray and a micro-fiber towel works well to clean it(untill you touch it again). Though I would say in the long run a shield that keeps it from getting smudged in the first place seems like the best solution.

i agree a screen protector is a must
Will be buying a screen protector this weekend, feel like it's time, haven't used a screen protector since like 09 on my dark iPhone days.
I clean mine with household polish, the stuff that says is fine for electronics and glass, it leaves a pretty good friction free finish - I've tried alsorts on my tablet to keep it clean, Brasso gadget clean, LCD panel stuff, generic gadget cleaning stuff. Turns out bog standard polish is the best for me

I have found this microfiber cloth to work very well:

I wet the corner of the cloth with water and wipe once with the wet end. Then I do a few quick wipes with the dry end the screen is like new.

[REVIEW] Ultimate Shield® Screen Protector (non-glass) & Spigen Tough Armor Case

For those who want stylish drop-protection and scratch resistant screen protection, here's a review and installation guide/tips for the Ultimate Shield® Front Shield Invisible Screen Protector and the Spigen Tough Armor Black (Built-in Kickstand).
The products...
Ultimate Shield® Google Pixel 2 XL FRONT SHIELD Invisible Screen Protector
Google Pixel 2 XL Case Spigen [Tough Armor] [Black] Built-in Kickstand
A bit of background first, if I may...
My previous OnePlus 5T was the first phone I felt the need to have screen protection (let's just say kitten claws and phone screens don't blend so well....) in addition to good quality drop protection. So when switching to the Google Pixel 2 XL I figured let's play it safe. For a few reasons though when trying out tempered glass protectors on the 5T, I just couldn't settle. I couldn't get over the mirror-like reflection which for me, spoilt the beauty of the display. Several brands later and I found the same disappointing experience (sensitivity issues, fingerprint magnets, poor fit, high reflection etc.). So I decided to try the Ultimate Shield non-glass screen protector. Which I LOVED.
Speaking in the present and with the glorious Pixel 2 XL I wasted no time in purchasing the same Ultimate Shield Screen Protector and high quality Spigen cases combination. Pictured in this review will just be the Tough Armor, though I could upload some pics of the Liquid Crystal clear case if requested.
Installation...
I'm not going to lie, it's not 'easy' as such, but once you nail the technique and with a little hard work you can achieve the results you want. As you may know, the Ultimate Shield (and similar brands like IQ Shield) require a wet installation - that is to say, with the use of slightly soapy water.
You may attempt to follow my instructions to the letter or be inspired to attempt it in a different way, so either way here are my steps that I achieved a near-perfect installation:
DISCLAIMER - these are my steps which I found to be successful - your actions are your responsibility and if you don't trust these steps, simply follow the instructions provided by Ultimate Shield.
1. Humid environment - I ran the shower hot for a short while with the window shut. You want it to be nice and steamy in there which helps all those pesky little dust particles fall to the ground and not float around making their way under your screen. The perfectionists amongst us will not be able to unsee that 1 hair or a collection of dust located anywhere on the screen! In the interest of full disclosure, this was actually my third installation. I don't mind admitting this, but I wish to keep this iIxel perhaps until Pixel 4 XL (IF I can wait that long...) and so I wanted as perfect installation as possible, given it's potential lifespan with me. Plus it always helps resale value too to have a well kept phone. I kept my window shut to avoid any airflow/potential risk of 'contaminants' floating their way in and to maintain humidity.
2. Further dust reduction - Perhaps over-the-top, but I removed my bathroom matt and towels just in case any fibres were floating around from them and I even did the installation topless. Like I say, perhaps over the top but who knows where the little fibres would originate from...
3. Workstation setup - I used the toilet seat (closed and clean of course ) and a wooden chopping block to work on.
4. Tools/stuff you'll need - As the included Ultimate Shied instructions state you'll need a bowl of clean water with a tiny drop of washing up liquid in there. I cleaned the bowl thoroughly (no point in having bits of dust in there to begin with, that would ruin your hard work!) and I even use filtered water. Hell, why not. The tip I'd like to say is don't stir like crazy - don't make bubbles - but instead swirl your finger(s) round slowly and you'll see the the water and washing up liquid mix. If you do make some bubbles let them settle. Or use a spoon and get them out. As these bubbles will just be extra bubbles to squeegee out later. More bubbles, more work. You'll also receive the microfiber cloth and a small squeegee. I like the size of the included squeegee card, but it in my opinion could be a little sturdier, so I used both that and a normal credit card. More on this later.
5. Let's begin - Your bathroom should be nice and steamy by now and you're ready to begin. Feel free to turn the shower off if it's too steamy or just steamy enough. Time is of the essence from the second you peel the screen protector from away from it's film, just in case any rogue particles are floating around on standby ready to attack - so you should be prompt, but similarly, don't rush.
You'll need to wash your hands to ensure you clean any oil/dirt from them. Likewise with the phone. I didn't go as far far as rinsing the phone under the tap, I mean I guess the phone is water resistant but I found the steamy bathroom and wiping the phone with the cloth sufficed. This is your call - but either way this is a critical step. Power down the device and clean that screen and clean it good! Keep checking for any dust/fibers/hairs or whatever may have made its way to your screen. Look at your phone from every angle possible in the light. Really make sure your screen is clear of anything that shouldn't be there.
You're done checking?
No. No you're not.
Seriously - make sure no bits are there!
6. Applying the screen protector - Once your happy with the screen, wet your fingers with the water from the bowl. Wet all of your fingers, from tips to sides. Then carefully begin peeling the screen protector from it's film. Do this carefully. Very carefully. With your wet fingers, peel it slowly and be careful not to stretch it and to emphasise, keep those fingers wet! You don't want any fingerprints on the sticky side of the protector. Once peeled, you can dip it directly in the bowl of water however I found it best to repeatedly wet my fingers and 'stroke' the sticky side (don't get mixed up and forget which is the sticky side...!). If you see any big soapy bubbles on it, try wipe them off with your wet finger but don't worry too much as you should be able to squeegee them out soon. But again, more bubbles, more work... Now check your screen and ensure you're happy there is no bits on there. If you're happy, then proceed to applying the protector.
7. Alignment - Ensure you've definitely put the screen protector on not only the right way round but also that it's not upside down! You'll need to look at the application in multiple angles with good lighting to really check that it's lined up nicely. I found that the beauty of this screen protector is that it is a really good fit. Like right to the edge of the screen and the camera/speaker cut outs are nice. So use these cutouts as reference and take the time to line it properly. Again, keep those fingers wet. They'll soon dry up and you want to avoid touching the exposed sides that haven't stuck down yet (more on that later).
8. Squeegee - Now it's time to get those trapped bubbles/water out. Use the included squeegee card or a credit card, whichever you prefer, with the microfiber cloth wrapped around it. This makes your squeegeeing less harsh on the surface of the screen protector and helps it glide. Hold your phone still and press firmly from the centre to the edges. Now then, do this assertively but with caution. A few key tips:
- You want to press hard enough to get the water out, but as you release the trapped water the screen protector will be binding itself to the screen and begin to settle in it's position. So 2 things here to be mindful of: while there's water still under there and as you are squeegeeing, the protector may move around - ensure you maintain good alignment. Secondly, as water is released it will keep it's place so again, ensure you have good alignment. If not, now is the time to carefully peel it back off (with wet fingers), wet it and try again.
- When squeegeeing, do so with good pressure but not too much. You may get some stubborn bubbles which may require extra force. I found myself alternating between the flat long side of the card and sometimes using the corner for a stubborn bubble - though tread carefully here, as whilst the protector is durable you can 'dent' it a little if too much pressure is applied. As will be seen on my pictures, I've got the slightest dent marks from applying a little too much pressure with the corner of the card. These protectors are supposed to be "self-healing" though, so perhaps overtime the dent may come out, as with the bubbles which are also said to take some time to go away. We'll see...
- Take extra care around the speaker/camera lens cutouts. I found these areas, especially the around the speaker, not to stick down straight away and on my first install attempt I kinked it a little stretching it, causing it not to sit flush. So go slowly and keep the applied pressure from the centre to the sides.
If you notice any trapped dust at this point under the protector then carefully remove, remove if possible wet fingers (may even have to use your nail carefully) and try again. Once the protector dries it may be hard to get it off again without stretching it, so bear this in mind.
Give the screen a thorough inspection in good light at all angles. You'll maybe see big bubbles of water and so if so, do your best to squeegee them out. You may see little collections of tiny soapy bubbles. Again, do what you can to remove. Once your happy enough you can let it rest. The screen might not look perfect right now and it will look hazy (keep it powered off still for the time being, for what it's worth) but this haziness should clear up in time and it is said that slight imperfections can take some further time to clear up.
9. The waiting game - the sides may not be sticking down yet but this is normal. It may take an hour or longer for them to begin to stick and so patience is required. A little tip here is be careful where you let it rest whilst the protector dries. I'm talking from experience here, as with my first install I took the phone into my front room just on the table and little bits of dust found themselves under the protector at the sides where it hadn't yet stuck. So my advice and technique to prevent this, is to very loosely wrap the phone up with tinfoil. This prevented any dust getting to it and of course no bits/particles would come from the tinfoil either. I found this to be successful in allowing it to dry in peace.
I left it an hour and checked on it. Carefully use your fingers/thumbs to press down those sides if they are yet to stick down. If an area is still not sticking, press and hold for 10 seconds or so and it should stay. If not, more time may be required.
After patiently waiting overnight, as recommended, I turned my phone back on - it may be safe to turn it on soon after the install, given the device is water resistant, but still I wanted to ensure it was fully dry, the speaker grill for example, just in case.
10. The end result - It is with all of the above steps that I woke up to see most of the haze had gone and I'd managed a near-perfect installation. VERY happy! The sides have stuck down and it really does suit the phone very well. As mentioned, the protector hugs the entire screen - more than the actual display but indeed over the curved edge and it's this which, for me, makes it compatible with Spigen case at least. I still took care in placing the phone in the case, to prevent lifting the protector up but I'm confident that the lip of the case goes well over the protector. You can't see any edges of the protector as it is fully covered by this case, which for me is yet another selling point. Other than the cut out for the camera/speaker etc. you can barely notice it!
So in summary...
Pros
- Precisely cut out
- Fits the phone extremely well
- No loss of sensitivity
- No mirror-like glare (the colourful display remains that way)
- Barely noticeable
- Case compatible (I have only test with the 2 Spigen cases, but I found on my previous OnePLus 5T that these tight fitting cases were the most problematic - this is not the case with this Pixel 2 XL setup)
- Offers great scratch resistance - I keep my phone in my pocket by itself and never with anything else, but I've the extra peace of mind and will avoid any hair-line scratches or scuffs
Cons
- Some may find this a little more time-consuming and complex process than standard protectors or tempered-glass installations, but that's for you decide...
- There is the slightest 'orange peel' effect, but again this really is very slight - at least to me - never noticeable when the screen is on and only really seen if looking hard for it up close
- Whilst this protector offers great scratch resistance I would only use this type of protection with a good case as of course, this protector offers very little in terms of drop protection.
I hope the above guide/review is of use to some people who are looking to protect their device and perhaps wasn't too pleased with tempered glass.
See attached pictures from the morning after the night before. You will see a couple of spots of dust on the screen but these are luckily on the phone and not trapped underneath. Lastly, it is said that any haze/little bubbles can take 24-72 hours to fully disappear, but even after just overnight I am very happy with this setup!
I'm happy to answer any questions or upload any more pictures if requested.
How do you find the Tough Armor case? Are the buttons still easy to press? Does it add much bulk?

Here's my thoughts...
- it does have a slightly bulky feel, feels bigger and heavier than the Liquid Crystal case, but I like it..
- it has sufficient grip but perhaps slightly slippy, not too much though
- the buttons are good but on my opinion could be a little better. The liquid crystal case buttons are clicky and pop out, on the Tough Armor the volume buttons are flush with the side of the case and the power button is rippled, so that's easier to find when feeling for it
- the kickstand is flimsy as they say, but fully functional and serves its purpose well
Overall I absolutely love it. If I could change a few things I would but this has superior drop protection over the Liquid Crystal and in combination with this screen protector I'm confident my phone is well protected

How does it feel? Fingers slide around like the regular screen? How's the fingerprint coating?

For me, it genuinely feels very natural. Definitely feels different than a tempered glass or having none at all, but it's very smooth and barely noticeable. It's been on device for about 40 hours now and feels well bonded. For me it's good for fingerprints and also not 'mirror-reflective' like some tempered glass. Price is £7.99 on ebay

Question About Oleopbobic Coating and Screen Protectors

My new Fold 2 is arriving today. I intend to remove the main screen factory protector. I've read about people's experience with replacing the screen protector and it seems that unless using matte protector (which I do not want to do for now), fingerprints remain an issue.
My question is has anyone tried applying an oleopbobic coating to a clear TPU protector? Is this possible? I'm looking at possibly the Orzero protector and something like the following:

Thanks ahead of time.
Sounds like a great idea. Definitely interested in knowing the experience of others who may have tried this. Personally, I do not recommend you remove your inner display protector until you have another one immediately to apply. The standard one installed by Samsung feels gross and all, however it is still projecting the screen from scratches...
I went ahead and removed the main screen protector and applied the above oleophobic coating. Easy application and a relatively short cure time. So far, I'm very happy with the results, although it's difficult to tell how much impact it had given the screen presumably may have some coating already. Maybe not since it's not glass?
Early results seem very good as I am not noticing very many fingerprints at all and they are very easily wiped away with a soft microfiber cloth. Time will tell about durability and I will report back with my results.
The above kit also had plenty left to apply to the outer screen with a factory screen protector. The application seemed identical although again I'm not sure if it actually bonded or not. Likewise, I'm not noticing many fingerprints and they are easily removed. Will report back on this as well.
So far so good.
It's nearly worthless as it's only a couple of microns thick at the best. Thickness matters.
No impact protection whatsoever and very little scratch or marring protection regardless of the claims.
Liquid Glass works on cars after about 3-5 coat/ cure cycles as it bonds to its self and builds in thickness. At around 5 coats it might be 1-2 mils thick. Resembles a clear coat at that point and adds a degree of protection more so than wax.
One coat does nothing.
Even it's no substitute for any type of clear tape of even the thinness mil thickness.
Thanks for the reply. I'm not using it as a protective coat but for the anti-fimgerprint qualities.

For that it will work.
It will be interesting to see have long it lasts. The dry skin of the fingers and palms can actually polish glass, it is abrasive.

How long have you been using your phone this way? Just curious if you've seen any scratches on your screen? I switched out the screen protector and while it is definitely smoother the the factory one, I still long for a smooth glass like feel and am very tempted to go protector free.
Only about 5 days so far but I love it. Of course, I can't speak to the !ong-term yet. I'm pretty careful (famous last words, right?). I avoid wiping it with anything but a microfiber cloth or a double plush microfiber towel (the kind I use on my car). I love the double plush towel because I can clean the screen in about 2 seconds. BUT, it's too big to pocket obviously. I'm actually on the lookout for some kind of small plush towel that can fit in my pocket lol.
Thus far, no scratches at all.

It's easy enough to reapply as needed
Microfiber clothes are all I use. Been using them to dry wipe optics for well over a decade.
Any other material is likely to cause scratches sooner or latter...
