Epic touch to Galaxy Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So tomorrow I'm trading my epic touch for a galaxy nexus. Was seeing if anyone else had made this move and how their experience with the phone change was. I appreciate any input.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2

i did the same thing and so far so good once you see this screen it just is like wow , the one thing i ididnt like about the epic touch was the screen resolution. Also i kinda miss 4g wimax but cant wait for lte my area is one of the couple scheduled to receive lte some time before the end of this year. And also this phone was a breeze to root and flash a new rom and 32gb internal is fine with me even tho i had like 40 something gb on my epic touch. The only problem with the nexus is the speaker isnt as loud and thats about it also dont expect really high benchmarks. but these issues arent as bad as the LOS on the epic touch which just was a pain at times

I made the switch and within 45 minutes was rooted and running a built from source jelly bean Rom. Loving my Google phone...

Screen resolution... and Jellybean is waaaay fast. And the camera is meh.

I was rocking an old lg slide phone and the galaxy nexus was the first android phone I got and boy is it great I love the customization options, the phenomenal devs on xda and other websites that are committed to this phone, and may I make a suggestion once you get you Gnex is to root and flash Codename Android 3.1.0 or AOKP M6 with faux123's kernel on it, by far the best two roms and kernel combo's ive ever used. As well you should get titanium backup it has saved me more than once.
Have fun with your new phone!!

I also made the switch. I'm fortunate in that I'm in a KC suburb that has LTE. The LTE signal is a lot stronger than the 3G, and of course way faster. It does drop off sometimes though, so I'm not sure Sprint is done tweaking on it.
I love the pure Google experience. The only negative I have for the Nexus is the battery life for me is not nearly as good as I had on the Epic 4G Touch. I'm on here tonight doing my preliminary research because I intend to root and ROM after work tomorrow night. I had my E4GT rooted and ROM'd with ICS before Sprint ever came out with it. Oh, since Sprint is so slow with updates I guess that didn't mean anything.

Thanks for all of yalls input. It has helped me in further pursuing a galaxy nexus

To be honest i haven't even updated anything but my modem however I have never really had any issues with overheating or los. The game issue was with a few games but the games i really enjoy don't have any problems.
Games such as brother in arms, dead space, backstab, and nova 2. So depends on what games she likes it maybe an issue.

it has improved a lot. have not experienced any force closes since EG30 and Los. and the overheating doesnt happen unless ur watching or playing games for over 2-3 hours which every phone over heats. im currently on EL26 the latest build and to my opinion the battery improved. unplugged my phone at 7am to go to work ( texting/few calls and gaming) and came back at 6pm with 73% battery left.
Never heard anything about overheating on the E4GT.
The others have, to the best of my knowledge, been fixed. LoS has disappeared, and all the games that previously crashed for me no longer do so.
Nice nice thanks guys I think this will make a great late Xmas gift
I am seeing so many builds but they aren't ICS, are they meant to fix something?

well u seem to have picked a really nice phone for ur girl, probably the best phone out there right now lol. well ICS isnt new to me since i have the galaxy nexus already, so im not really hiked up about it. I just want to see how it performs on the E4GT cause right now my E4GT runs a lot smoother and faster than my Galaxy Nexus the only thing that i like better on the galaxy nexus is Verizons LTE lol.
Are you talking about the epic touch?
Are y'all saying I should get the touch and give her the nexus s? Lol

Getting a galaxy nexus as it's a path of least resistance. I want ics so much that its driving me insane lol. If you are getting the Nexus specifically for ICS, you are setting yourself up for disappointment...
I put a stable build of ICS on my gf's Nexus S. Once you get over the design changes, it's not that much better than what we have now. I would dare say some things are even more difficult to do with ICS than gingerbread *cough cough widgets cough*
Add to the fact that some apps just don't work correctly with ICS yet, while working with gingerbread no problem.
I am not downplaying the Galaxy Nexus, it's a decent phone. But if you want it just for ICS, I am telling you right now you are shooting yourself in the foot. Whatever you do, you ought to face the fact that you are gonna be waiting regardless. Whether you are waiting for ICS to be ported to our hardware, or waiting for app developers to update their apps to be ICS stable, or waiting for sprint to pick up a ICS device. You are going to wait. Get used to it.

I can reply to this post as it has logic: However, there are perks that ics has in which are very desirable. I don't need to go into the features but i would add that the galaxy nexus has a better screen, better resolution and is a stock google experience and even though it's on verizon, we will get updates to the phone from google and i love that (yes i know we have to wait for verizon but i have faith that it won't be long to update software because of the stock experience.
Another google device wont be coming out for another year (november/december) and i'm willing to go to verizon and pay a little more for the device. I get a discount anyway from my job which helps and I can afford it so it's not a problem.
I posted this as i know many others can relate with my desire for ICS. I wanted to give the pic 4g touch some praise too cause it's the best phone everrrrrrrrrrr man. so fluid and fast.. just missing ICS.
The screen resolution and stock ICS are understandable reasons to go for the Nexus.
But for me, the fact that the screen is Pentile, the fact that you can't stick an extra sdcard in it, and the fact that it has slower internals just make it unappealing. Especially considering there will be a GS3 in our midst soon.
At the very least you could wait for the Nexus to hit Sprint for unlimited data.

Lower quality camera and camcorder. I ran sprint id and installed the clean pack (vanilla launcher). That took care of touchwiz. I have ics on my ns4g and am not impressed.
Congrats
I used ics on my old nexus s 4g it was awesome but that battery drain bug killed it. This phone of ours will make ics scream!!!!

I've tested ICS and it didn't really address the areas of Android I think should be improved - voice recognition and voice dialing. It also wasn't very friendly for things like switching between 3G and 4G.
The Galaxy Nexus has a very nice screen (even better than the ET4G IMHO) but the camera doesn't seem as good. I'm not sure if it is the processor in the Nexus or ICS that is the issue but it seemed a little sluggish.
Verizon on the other hand, blows the doors of the speeds I get on Sprint in the two states I've tested in.
All that being said, I still want the Nexus, not for the phone or ICS but just to get the hell off of Sprint. If I could have the ET4G with great speed on Sprint I'd have little to need for ICS but the data speeds on Sprint are wretched. I was getting between 4x to 10x the speed on Verizon as I was do in Sprint in two different states. Hopefully the Galaxy SIII will be out by the time Sprint kicks me off their network for roaming to Verizon all the time.
I bought the Galaxy Nexus because I just had to have ICS too. And then I returned it a week and a half later. ICS is nice, but aside from some graphical changes, it really isn't THAT different from Gingerbread, and it wasn't enough to convince me to keep such a mediocre device. I would much rather have GB on our E4GTs than ICS on a GNex.
Well since Sprint just announced that the Nexus is coming to their network with LTE on board you changing over was honestly a bit over done. Yeah I want ICS as well but honestly it's worth it to wait a bit.
http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/9/2694133/sprint-samsung-galaxy-nexus-lte-official
With Google Wallet as well (officially not the bs that VZN did)
It honestly is worth it to wait for a phone and a brand new Phone OS at times. But yeah sadly I'll wait till we get ICS on our E4GT the phone is just so much better unless the specs on this Nexus are pushing the 1.5ghz cpu like we have no (only at 1.2) that might worth a phone change. But really not sure yet.
Yeah depending on rumors of future devices that may make it to Sprint later this year, I may give the Nexus a try once it releases. I always like something new

I have the E4GT and I do love it to death but I have an upgrade is it worth it to upgrade to the nexus or should I hold out and wait for the galaxy sIII or perhaps the note to come to sprint?

Ya, thats pretty much what I thought. The E4GT is way to close in specs with the Gnexus to throw away an upgrade that could bring me a much more superior phone!
I'd be curious to hear from our recent deserters (hah!) if they've been experiencing the data issues that have been reported and what their overall opinion of the phone is in comparison to the E4GT.
We've heard from Overstew, who went over and came back, and I think his opinion would've been mine as well, but would love to hear from others.
I played with the Galaxy Nexus for 2 days. It is a great phone, but I like my Epic 4G Touch better.

I just upgraded myself! Its a great upgrade for me at least. I LOVE THE SCREEN, design, and 50 bucks you get with Google wallet. Along with some awesome dev support. This is gonna be an awesome phone for development come jelly bean
I love the nexus....some things are better and some not... Love the resolution of the screen...love that I can put a recovery on it team win recovery and it stays...no matter what kernel I flash...the battery life is similar to what e4gt is getting on ics but the epic touch kills it with gb.... Maybe ics is just not as good battery wise.... Love boot manager as I have aokp, cm9 , miui, and paranoid android all installed.....to me as a flash a holic I love the nexus ....doesn't seem like a bad choice since sprint won't have a quad core any time soon.... to me evo lte and galaxy 3 are just not that much better than epic touch or the nexus to warrant a upgrade
The main thing better for me is the signal strength is much better than my epic touch in low signal areas...

Went to the sprint store today to play with the nexus and I must say there was either something wrong with the one I was using or that phone is a mess. I got nothing but lock ups and force closes. Could not get into the facial unlock it just kept force closing. What do you guys say, Isolated incident or is that just how that phone is? It did not run nearly as smooth as my E4GT!

This is why I am still considering it because my ET4G isn't going anywhere. It would be my upgrade to my NS4G. I almost exclusively use my NS4G at work because of the low signal performance on my Epic Touch. I figure if I am going to pay full price for a phone I don't think the GNex, Evo LTE, and S3 wouldn't warrant it. If something truly next level comes along I would consider paying full price at the time. So the question for me is GNex or S3 with my 2nd line upgrade. My friends who upgraded from NS4G to GNex are actually really enjoying it and say the battery isn't as bad as people are saying. They tell me its equal to NS4G which I can pull 5-6 hours of screen time as well. I just know how to set up Sammys. The NS4G is known for bad battery life as well...
I just hope the trouble I saw with that thing was device related and not ICS related. If we get ICS and my phone starts acting like that nexus I may just stick with Gingerbread!
Another thread about this?
I have had a couple fc but that is to be expected as there are a lot of non optimized apps but overall really happy with nexus haven't even picked up epic touch lately....

So I recently had a friend tell me his s3 hasnt been doing very well for him speed and service wise(he has sprint) and I did some digging around on google and some forums to try to help him out.. and the more I researched the more I saw posts about all the issues with the s3... problems with it charging to horrible battery and reception to other things I can't remember now.. and Im here thinking to my self.. man I LOVE THIS DEVICE. On full stock rooted I really have no issues.. my battery lasts reception is ok for me in Miami.. not the best but certainly not bad. I really dont have any problems that would make me want to return the phone. I think i agree with your friend. The Sprint's S3 does suck. My uncle has a Sprint S3 and it is a bit laggy compared to mine...so maybe its not the phone itself, but the network carrier. So radio/baseband has to be culprit for everything thats weighing the phone down.
I also had the s2 international version that worked flawless (and I flashed the hell out of that thing) but my sprint buddies all had complaints..
I forgot to mention in OP that some of the bad reviews I read also included our tmobile model.. but I am incredibly happy with mine.

And remember, most people who have no problens with the phone aren't going to post about it online. Its much easier to find out what went wrong for people because they always come online loking for help!
That silent majority is, I imagine, quite massive considering the millions of these phones that have been sold! That's a lot of happy people going about their lives without ever needing to seach for help!

I really have no issue with the S3 on t-mobile. This is the first Android phone I have with great battery, fast, lot of available memory for the apps to fly,... Great reception and I think I pick up 4G at some places that would be on Edge or 3G when using the S2 or Sensation.

I like both, my god its just phones... an enemy in my definition is someone who has crossed me.. you do know there would be no android without apple right? The guy who created android worked at apple & stole key features. That' why jobs said he will fight android until he dies. So you change ROMS during the week/weekend? I never thought of doing that - I guess Titanium helps? Sorry. I'm still a slight N00b. I just rooted but am keeping it stock for now. I just Dl'd Titanium but am confused on how to use it. Guess that's for another thread lol.
Is there a way to make sure titanium doesn't restore bad backup data? (I don't use it for this reason. Wanna make sure my ROM stays clean)
The battery lasts all day for the most part. Its so snappy. Love it too!
