Request... Cam in Yahoo video chat? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone got the camera working in Yahoo messenger for yahoo video calls on ICS? I have been asking around since ICS was ported to our phones but have not had any luck. It works in Gingerbread. However, when I do video calls in ICS on yahoo, I can see them but my camera appears black.

No official ICS camera drivers =Camera is borked in most third party apps. Just how it is. Now is it possible to go in there with some know how and fix this? Maybe, but not without breaking a few things, and most devs are more concerned with establishing basic camera functionality over third party apps.
It sucks, but if you really need it you have to stick with Gingerbread.

That is what I have been having to do, switch between GB and ICS. I thought the devs have worked out most of the links in the camera for ICS. That is why I requested the yahoo cam fix again. Thanks for the response though.

You can try fring, another app.
This epic reply brought to you by none other than my roxx'd out Evo.
I was going to ask this same question, so I am going to bump this.

The reason QIK doesn't work is because CM7 is Android 2.3 and QIK hasn't updated their app to work with 2.3. It has nothing to do with CM7 or any kernal or whatever you have installed! This is a known problem and until QIK gets off their butt and fixes this, you have to use other apps like Tango, Fring and other Video Chat apps in the market.
To my knowledge, QIK is the only one that hasn't updated to 2.3 yet.....WHY, who knows...LOL
Try out tango, it runs in the background with virtually no battery drain.

Can I use the new Gtalk video chat in Sense with 2.2?

Hi,
I was curious about the Gtalk video chat. I am using CM 7.X & my wife is using a Fresh 2.2 rom. Can we get the video chat working?
How can I do that?
Thanks,
Rich
I'm afraid not bud. She will need to be on a 2.3.4 (cm7 or other) based rom with the latest gapps that includes the gtalk 2 apk. You can also both just download tango for free from the market it works just fine!
Tango? I will have to check that out. Does it work OK over sprints really slow 3g that I experience?
Its not gonna be spectacular. I use Tango to call my boyfriend and the camera will cut out and the video lags. If you can connect to wifi it will work much better.

I assume this is the rule of thumb for all video chat? If its not on wifi its not going to be a great experience?

Check out fring
I have never had an enjoyable experience with video chat on froyo. That's the only thing the gingerbread leaks can do better. That said on gingerbread:
Oovoo sucks
Fring sucks
Qik sucks
Modded galaxy skype is good
Gtalk video chati hear is good
However I have no 4g whatsoever so this is all on 3g
Hope this helps

Before searching , is Tango available for Free and on the market ?
Have to agree, and Tango is multi-platform, so works for iPhone users too...
I wouldn't put any of the leaks on her phone. Stick with an ec05 build they're solid. As far as a video chat app Im not sure of one for froyo. I think Skype only allows voice chat for froyo builds, don't quote me on that though.

skype only works with gb (personally tested it) skype will NOT allow you to video chat with froyo.
it will even provide this statment when you first startup the skype app.
just go to the market and in the search box type "video chat for android" and it will give you all the apps. the only one that i like is skype. it was the only one that worked smooth for me.
SORRY! I COULDN'T POST THE APP LINK PAGE FOR YOU.
Tango works well on wifi/4g. It auto-searches your contacts and creates a list of who else has it.
That's what I use

Your Skype is working. Do you have icons for Video on it? I've had it before but after upgrade they disappeared.

I've got GTalk, but it doesn't seem to want to let me use video. My girlfriend is always on GTalk and I would kill to be able to show her what the hell I'm talking about when I'm shopping and I need her to tell me which item to throw in the cart.
I'm on a GB ROM, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
PS: To anyone wondering why only certain programs can do video chat on Froyo, it's because GB includes an APK that allows the OS to grab video from the FFC and provide it to the application asking for it. On Froyo, the app has to be written specifically to be compatible with the device to use the FFC.

So what's the best video calling option?

Of the software available such as qik, google chat, skype video and a bunch others, which have you found to work best with the epic 4g?
Also, for any suggestions, please let me know if you're using Gingerbread or ICS. I'm running Gingerbread myself.
Skype works pretty good for me. Haven't tried Gtalk video yet. Qik sucked.

Google video and skype r both good. As long as u have a good data signal. Either 4g or wifi.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Qik has been the best for me. It is made by Skype. Only real difference I saw between the two outs Skype forces you to chat in landscape mode which I hate.

Yahoo video doesn't work on ICS?

Does anyone know why yahoo video calls don't work on any ICS rom? Is there a fix available?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA
Most likely because the camera only works on ICS roms because it has been hacked to pieces. Hacked to pieces=doesn't play well with 3rd party apps.
Probably need to wait for the Desire HD update to deliver the drivers we need.
So its not just yahoo video calls, it's most/all 3rd party camera apps?

Not necessarily true, it depends on just how the app is accessing the camera. If the app has been updated to work with ICS, then I would say the "hackiness" of our camera is to blame. As we don't yet have camera drivers, it would be safe to say that if you need camera specific functions you would be better suited on a Gingerbread rom.
A specific rom developer might be able to get it working on their rom, but as usual even more hacks would be involved. My advice would be to bring it up, but try not to press anybody until we get those ICS drivers. Camera is really hit or miss right now.
