[HELP] Getting 3G - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought a Xperia Arc S (LT18a) Unlocked on Amazon.com, and I was wondering if there's anyway to get 3G on my phone, according to GSMArena this are my phone capabilities:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100 - LT18i
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 / 800 - LT18a
Orange Dominicana is 900/1900Mhz on 3G
EDGE on Orange is so slow.. What if I flashboot my LT18a to LT18i? Will it work?
Thanks

on your carrier, you need to fill the correct APN for the simcard.

Cross flashing between American and International models may cause some problems.. It is better if you don't do any such thing..

dows anyone knows if the LT18i has HSDPA 850 band? GSMArena says it doesn't but newegg and sony's site say it does.
sony know the best, they are creators.

LT18a UMTS HSPA800,850,1900,2100 GSM GPRS/EDGE 850,900,1800,1900
look like LT18a is US version
a= america = 850MHz 3G
i= international = 900MHz 3G, but also uses 850 for GSM only (it works on america but with slow internet(GSM))

LT18a vs LT18i - HSDPA 2100 band
Hi friends,
I am looking to buy SE Arc S in USA and want its 3G/HSDPA feature to work in India also. Mostly internet surfing I will do in India and seldom in USA.
HSDPA bands supported by both models is as below:
HSDPA 900 / 2100 - LT18i
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 / 800 - LT18a
Both LT18a and LT18i operate on 2100 band for HSDPA. Is there any form of difference when Sony claims support for band 2100 HSDPA in LT18a vs LT18i OR are the hardware radio/frequency & firmware/driver exactly same for 2100 band in both models.
In India 3G/HSDPA runs on 2100 band. I am confused which one to go for.
Please provide inputs.
Thanks in Advance
Friends,
I need to buy SE Arc S pretty soon. Please provide inputs about above query abt band 2100 HSDPA.

Thanks. Are you using SE Arc S LT18a in India on 2100 band.
I know that LT18a will work well in USA on 2100 HSPA band, and in India also we have 3G running on 2100 band. So will in my case LT18a run on 3G seemlessly well in India as well?

[Q] 3G NOT working on International Unlocked Version!

I bought the unlocked version (R800i) and im using it on a latinamerican network (MOVISTAR COLOMBIA) which is a GSM carrier but i can not get 3G speeds. Does it have to do with the supported bands? How can i change my supported bands?
BTW: This carrier works with GSM 850/1900 bands and according ro GSM arena it supports the following bands:
-2G Network: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
-3G Network: HSDPA 900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 / 800
Have you set up your apn settings

I think what he's trying to say is you bought the wrong model.. Sorry dude.
hi guys having the same issue.
i have Xperia Play (R800i) running on Telekom (Slovakia). I asked folks over there on what frequency is their 3G running, they told me that 1800.
Does it mean that i will have just 2G (Edge) available if in my paper is UMTS HSPA Band 1 8 GSM GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900?
Telekom offered this mobile in the end of 2011 so I am curious whether they would offer mobile with no 3G capability.
Thanks
R800i: GSM (2G) 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, HSDPA (3G) 900 / 2100
R800at: GSM (2G) 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, HSDPA (3G) 850 / 1900 / 2100 / 800
The R800i will not work with 850 and 1900 bands. You can't change the support band, you'll have to buy a different phone. It is hardware limitation btw, if you flash R800at firmware and baseband to your R800i, it will not make it work.

thanks for your reply, if my provider is telling that its 3G is running at 1800 Mhz, it should run right? currently i am running just 2G :/ and even when carrier selection i have just 2g shown. Can it be SIM related? i have changed mine a week ago.
Edit: just checked in TMobile that lady ran my SIM on her phone and H appeared. it has to be phone related somehow.
how can i find out whether my 800i wasnt transfered from some at, a version?
I talked do Data centre and R800i was in one of the action of Telekom , when i select only WCDMA, i lose any access to the service, carrier told me that it has to do something with the phone.
I guess that there were 3G and 4G versions of Play, not the version without 3G

Perhaps all problems will be solved at once if you bought the correct model?!

The 1800 is listed under both R800i & R800at as 2G frequency. I hate to say it but as its been stated already in this thread you bough the wrong model.
Eskasol:

[Q] T989 on Australian networks?

Did a quick search couldn't find what i was after... My question is will the T989 from T mobile (unlocked) work with Australian networks? Reason for my asking is we only have the sgs2 19100 with a 1.2ghz dual core whilst u guys have a 1.5ghz dual core.. im sure the 19100 can be o/c to 1.5ghz but it would be nice to have a sgs2 that not many people have here
Cheers.
no reason it not working there.
T989 is built for universal.

Thank you kind sir
The T989 can use the following Frequencies:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1700 / 2100
And taking a look at the wikipedia page on Carrier Frequencies:
Telstra 850/2100 - 2/3G
3 2100 - 3G
Optus 900/2100 2/3G
Vodafone 850/900/2100 2/3G
So it should* work fine, providing it is unlocked.

[Q] Sony Xperia T2 Ultra D5303 LTE works in north america?

2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100 - D5303
4G Network LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 - D5303
Just wondering for all you lucky T2 Ultra owners in US or Canada, do you have LTE for AT&T or Rogers/Bell/Telus??
I really want to get this phone but I want to make sure the LTE reception before I go ahead.
Thanks in advance!!
Cheers!

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.
The single sim model D5303 is the one I want.
as Rogers' LTE bands are 700, 1700, 2600, and the D5303 LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600, only one of the bands is matching, would it matter?

no it wont matter
LTE will work with single sim phone but try getting D5306 instead of D5303
I just ordered a T2 Ultra D5303 myself for a family member.
As far as LTE support in Rogers/Fido, as long it should work mostly you are connected to a tower which has 2600. If there are towers which only have 700/1700 are available then the phone will drop the lower speed's available supported frequency.
I have a sony xperia t2 ultra d5316 lollipop 5.0.1 and I get Lte on at&t. All you have to do is get a imei number from a at&t lte compatible phone and update it to your at&t account.
I called at&t tech support and gave them a imei number for a samsung galaxy s5 sm-g900a which is a at&t lte phone.
They updated my imei number and I just had to power off my xperia take out the Sim card, put in back in and power it back up.
Hope this helps you in anyway.
Cheers

xperia ZL HSPA+ Att for 6506?

Newbie question.
Just ordered the c6506 ZL unlocked. I'm using still my HSPA+ xperia play on ATT. will HSPA work on my new phone? Or do I need to upgrade to LTE4g?
thanks
According to gsmarena:
ZL C6506 HSDPA bands are 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
ZL C6506 LTE bands are 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
Since AT&T uses bands 850 / 1900 for UMTS/HSPA+, it sounds like you'll be fine.
If you want to take advantage of LTE, you may have to buy a new LTE-capable SIM card from AT&T (in case your current SIM is old or something)
And when you get the phone, make sure there is an appropriate APN entry for your carrier in the settings.
Thanks, i ended upgrading to lte.
