Android 4.x mods for HTCDesire HD - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am planning to give my wife my HTC Desire HD. She's not technically inclined. She would prefer to have a device that works well ans is stable.
Since HTC is no longer updating the firmware Desire HD, I would like to know what STABLE mods are available for Desire HD. It seems that Cyanogenmod 7 (officially suppored version is based on gingerbread), it rules out CM7. Any suggestions from the folks here?

I have been using the CM9 unofficial v2 for a while and it has been fine. It isnt 100% stable (but what is?) and I am very happy with it. Worth a look?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754382
By not 100% i mean sometimes an app wont open on the first try, very rarely hot reboots and the ICS widgets bug (where they stop updating) rears its head. This is absolutely minimal though. It blows the standard GB HTC rom entirely out the the water (or the sea even) for performance and battery life.

If you want stability and full operation in DHD, stay away from ICS or Jelly Bean roms.
Flash a good old sense rom, like Android Revolution HD, if you don't fancy CM7.

Need stability , simply go for ARHD 6.3.x and dont install any mods ... you won't e,xperience any unstable or weird bugs etc ...

[Q] RIP Pinky, RIP VillainROM, what's next??

I'm currently running SuperVillain after development on Pinky stopped. Both these ROM's are fairly free of bloath and run very stable. VillainROM has also ceased development of their Desire ROM's so I'm looking for a new alternative which hopefully will continue to be maintained.
Requirements:
- Sense
- Bloat free
- Based on latest official HTC ROM
Currently I'm looking at LeeDroid and AuraxTsense but I'm also interested in the new HD sense versions. Is camera still a problem? I read some where the camera works but 720p gives green. Are they worth trying or just stick to official based ROM's and wait for HTC to release the Gingerbread ROM with hopefully the new Sense?
Which ROM do you advice?
HD ROMs can't record in 720 but everything else is working with the camera, and you can view 720 videos (although some are a bit jumpy)
Other than that they're spot on
Leeroid 2.3b should see you sorted
fast, stable, and sense.
Tried an HD ROM but still a little buggy for my needs.
However the Leeroid developer now has a Desire HD so who knows how long the ROMs will be updated for

Currently running Leedroid and liking it. Gave Oxygen a run first and have to say it's damn good but I kinda missed Sense a bit. Especially the Sense contacts application which easily allows to link all sources (Google, FB, Twitter etc...)

[Q] Best Gingerbread rom?

So as the topic says, what do you guys think is the best gingerbread rom out? I tried AR HD 4.0 beta3 but it was not smooth so i switched back to AR HD 3.2.
Now there a like half a dozen gingerbread roms, so which do you think is the best overall, smooth, good battery, basically a daily usable rom. It seems coredroid 4.6 is respectable, and now theres AR HD 4.0 beta4, blazingly GB by capy, cm7 versions, etc. I would test them all but It takes me hours to DL one rom. I know, crazy. My edge powered home network is capped at like 50kbs top speed. BTW i would prefer sense roms. use to love vanilla android, but now i just cant go back. That dialer alone is hideous, lol.

For me, capy's rom is quite blazingly and it has the fastest support by far. Add the latest radio to it and you'll have a top notch DHD running Gingerbread.

Desire hd, international one. The radio im using is 26.06.04.14_m.
Update to the latest BETA, 4.0 massive speed improvements according to changelog!
CM7 ftw.
Tried it, you'll love it
Yeah, I'd have to go with CM7 as well.
Try CM7 and MIUI, they are completely different from each other, I'm using MIUI personally and love it, but it's all down to personal preference really. I find I get bored of one after a few weeks then try another.
Just tried a few roms some of you mentioned, theyre all awesome. Also anyone who hasn't tried the desire s DHD port from theintelligent should give it a shot. Possibly the smoothest gingerbread rom out there. The only thing is the text is slightly larger since its a desire s port, but not a biggie imo.
guys suggest me, Android Revolution HD 4.0 β 4 or CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V4.8???
btw former is still on 2.3.2 while later is on 2.3.3...
CM7
Cause of Nosense
I rekon lees beta 3 is good try it

Gotta be cm7rc2 for me.
Not tried many others mind, i'm so happy with this one.
really stable one with Sense
If you want a really stable one with Sense then you can better flash Desire S DHD(2.3.3) then Revolution HD 4.
I don't have any experience with CoreDroid.
cm7rc3 is out - Nosense and love it
Hi @all,
I use the CoreDroid HD GB 2.3.3 V4.8 and had a problem.
Still fixed. Sorry for posting
Sense: RHD 4.0
No-Sense: CM7 which I´m just addicted to since I came from RHD
Last week I flashed my first custom ROM. I wanted performance infront of visual changes because my lack of experience. A friend of mine told me to try out the Android Revolution HD 4.0 β 4.
Amazing ROM! It is like comparing the Playstation 1 with a Playstation 3, fast and smooth and very easy to use.
Regards rocketby.
at the moment i like this one. because of the clean gingerbread look.
[ROM] Spike Pure Gingerbread v2.0 [2.31.1400][GingerBread 2.3.3 without Sense]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002671
it runs realy stable and has an exellent standby time.
only issue gps runs only outside.
_updateted today to v2.0 gps and loction works also inside.
Theintelligent's desire s port is by far the best gingerbread sense rom atm. Followed by themed coredroid

[Q] Which is the best ROM for DHD?

Hi all,
I am considering having my phone rooted. Which is the best rom for the DHD? I am thinking of latest ICS? Any thoughts? Is it worth it to go to ICS?
Your comments will be highy appreciated.
Many thanks,
MAC
depends what u want all these have big speed improvement from HTC stock, except for the ICS beta's atm.
if u want closest to stock rom use ARHD Sense 3.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040
if you want the newer sense 3.5 go with RCMIX3D (Runny v4.0)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261721
if u want an iphone look
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970196
if u want pure android, u can go with the usual cyanogen builds
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917271
OR install ARHD then flash the no-sense script on the second post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040
if u want to try Ice cream sandwich roms - !!!theyre a bit buggy atm!!!
These uses "Forced Hardware graphics acceleration" supposedly its the 3d,
i found that my phone ran faster with it unticked. i had it for several days but got
annoyed at the inability to browse internet properly.
LordClockan
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450962
or Virtuous Quattro RC2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428047
(u need to flash the kernel next to the rom download for Quattro to work wifi properly)
There isnt a really "best" rom its just what you want your phone to look like, Take your pick but ill be sticking to ARHD until ICS is smoother. Tho that doesnt mean i wont try it from time to time
Runny 4.0 is my personal fav.
Matt
Thanks a ton mate. I think I will give Runny 4 a shot!!!
I like Sense (Sense 3.5 sounds good), but I use GO Launcher EX with my own frankentheme. I use Sense Analogue Clock, a bit of HTC DIamond (remember those), Own icons, fully customised app drawer, dock, etc etc. I also use a modified Diamond wallpaper with Live wallpaper - Nexus Revamped Pro (purchased n the Market) - also fully customisable.
I have attached the wallpaper I customised and that I have been using for a long time now.
Runny for sense man...cyan for non sense..then when devs finished...
Ics for non sense
Ics and sense 3.6
Good times
Runny 4.0 is a top quality rom though

Well what I did was I tried almost all the roms from ARHD to Cyanogenmod and I am currently using MIUI ICS and am loving it. So it depends on what your needs are.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
Personal favorites would be cm7 nightly build 260, blackice is fast (there is not much to say for a GUI interface but the rom is nice), or like previously stated Lord Clockan is doing some great work ICS, I have been running that for almost 2 weeks now.
I would say smartdroid is the best, this I am saying after having tried almost all the Roms (but for beta ics roms)on this forum...
If you need all "features" of phone I would say CM7 latest nightly, if not try LC:s ICS rom it's really nice...

oops my bad thought i was in the forum >.<
Mods move this please
Whichever you choose, you won't be satisfied.lol
i offer to you install the revelotion roms ...
satiRM further
it really depends on what you want. lets say you want stock looking android GB so in that case your choice should "Android Revolution HD" 6.X.X I was personally using this rom for a while never had a single problem with it also battery life was very good. and also you might consider Cyanogen MOD 7.2 also GB rom with no HTC sense thats up to you Cyanogen is smooth and never had problems with it but ADW launcher which is used in Cyanogen is not that stable peace of software you would like it to be... anyway I think any GB based custom roms should be stable smooth and bugless... and its not that hard to try several custom roms and then choose your best...
now talking about ICS thats a bit different story there are lots to choose from and almost every ICS cutom rom states that its fully working but in reality I never found ICS rom which is really FULLY WORKING I would call them "almost fully working" because you can found small maybe not that important but still some glitches... Some camera effects may not work, some parts of HTC sense might be little bit buggy but of course nothing serious...
i did tried "blackout", "trickdroid", "sabsa prime" all of them was fine to use daily had some small glitches I mentioned before but no big problems keep in mind that memory "RAM" usage is a lot higher with ICS keep in mind if you multitasking alot but shouldn't be a big problem... actually tried to "break" my phone with intense usage like, listening to music, skyping, browsing web, runing games at the time, installing app from market but phone seemed able to handle all that just fine and thats good
and every ICS rom I tried had one annoying thing there was no "facebook for htc sense" so you must use that crappy facebook app to get your friend profiles synced... that really suck...
and you have an option to use "jellybean" i did tried "jellyTime" r16 had no problems with it but as much as I read about others expierence I would not consider "JT" to be stable and good choise for a new user who just wants to be sure his phone runs flawless...
I'm at moment using "sabsa prime 6.5" stayed with it because it was last rom I tried lol
sorry for my bad english
Now I need to figure out if I like sense or not I guess. thus far Jelly Bean has been my favorite on my play despite the fact that like half the stuff doesn't work >.< So we'll see...
Thx for all the places to start.
Sabsa prime best

Have you ever try CodefireX? The best ever!
iam using Cosmic Sandwich V2 after tersting Trickdroid and JellyTime. IMO its a solid experience for those who like a snappy UI (Miui) and some of the Sense goodies.
In my opinion, skip ICS and go to Jelly Bean. Google Now, some other fun things, you'll be glad you did.
Pick a flavor (there's many options these days). I'd go with CM10 - either codefireX or Jellytime with the KangBang-Kernel v0.1 (separate thread by synergye in the dev forum)
Try coredroid multy device sense 3.5 is the best rom everything works fine even the wifi ,camera are brilliant all rom is great
(Perdona por my ingles)

There appear to be a couple of ICS/sense roms on the forum for the DHD. Most appear to have bugs and issues for one reason or other. Is there a fairly stable ICS with sense rom good for every day use?
I've been loving JellyTime R19. Been up for days without any issues. It has been exceptional.
I have flashed quite a few roms till now and have had mixed experience. Among the ICS roms, I found Trickdroid, Blackout and Nik Project X to be the best. I loved all three of them and currently using Trickdroid. I did not try too many JB roms but like Jelly time.
If you are looking for a stable ROM I would recommend CyanogenMod 7 - it runs GB.
If you want to experiment and don't mind some quirks then I would say JellyTime - it runs JB.
I started on CM7 when I first got my HTC, tried LeeDroid, another one I don't remember, back to CM7 and most recently through several revisions of JellyTime.
Of course YMMV, if you ask 10 people you will get 10 different answers. So you just have to experiment - that's the reason I went through all those different ROMs. I found that I like the CM mods (JT is based on CM10).

XxXPachaXxX NERO XL Rom
My first rom after rooting was Blackout ICS Incredible v3.1.0 FULLY WORKING!!! [4.0.4][Sense 3.6] but my phone has frequent blackouts during calls and i tried IceColdSandwich. This ROM was stable but i did not like the camera - no touch focus, the zoom was strange.
The last ROM i've tried is XxXPachaXxX NERO XL Rom - is with a real sense camera and the sound is great.

Hello

Hey,
I've been reading xda for quite a while now and I thought I would register and say hey. Then once I have done 10 posts, start contributing.
I have a 2 year old HTC desire, rooted, stock HBOOT, S-off.
I originally rooted so that I could save apps to the SD card (fed up of not enough space)
however I finally plucked up the courage to flash a new rom and I haven't looked back!
Roms tried so far:
Sandvold 0.18.2.1 (and a few earlier revisions)
Runny Rom 7.0.2
MIUI (short lived - missed the app drawer)
JB Paranoid Hybrid UI
HTC Desire AOKP Milestone 6
Unofficial AOKP Jelly Bean v1.4 - my personal favorite so far although a few niggles which mean I can't use it as my everyday rom. (niggles I would like to help out with, when I have my 10 posts)
Current:
Insert coin rom A2SD+ stable v1.14 - purely because of the stability and lack of niggles.
I'm stuck with my Desire until my contract renewal (May 2013). and then I will be upgrading (possibly a Nexus, maybe something else). Until then I will be milking my desire for all its worth with new roms just to keep my interest in it.
I really like what you guys are doing here and the developers are incredible. I would like to help where I can, but being a noob and highly de-motivated by the instructional video means I might need help helping you....
Thats about it,
Thanks

Hey,
Which Runnymede rom do you mean?
Cool 3D?
Runnymedemod007?
Runnymede AOI?
etc,
I have tried Runny Rom, and I agree it is stable, but it was also quite slow and jumpy for me, I don't know if I was using the right Kernel, but I think I was. I even OC'd to 1132 MHz, but it didn't seem to make a difference.
I'm now trying runnymede aio as suggested and so far I'm quite impressed, seems to be stable and smooth, except the weather, but its livable with.

Well, yeah, ICS/JB roms are not too stable, but they are gradually getting better and better. I haven't had any major problems with any of the roms, except some occassional reboots or freezes - so far zero of them with this rom. And to be honest, I'd say that the ICS/Jellybean features and HWA are worth some discomfort. If you need to use the phone for work I wouldn't suggest them too much. But if your phone is mostly a "toy"/tinkering machine, go for it.
Also just noticed that OP had already tested the Paranoid Android JB rom... My bad. No problems for me with it so far. I didn't even know that my Desire could be this smooth :l.
I agree, I have tried most of the ics/jb roms now, and for a daily Rom I would stick with gingerbread, I'm getting back to sense at the moment, seriously considering a oneX+ when I can upgrade, although the Motorola maxx HD looks promising...
