NFC randomly disabling?? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok, here's the issue I'm running into:
I use NFC to automate my phone profiles like a lot of us probably do with this phone (AT&T S3, using Samsung TechTiles w/NFC Tag Launcher app). Until yesterday, it had been working with complete and total reliability.
However, yesterday I decided to install the following Google Wallet fix to enable Wallet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769083&page=114, <-- which by the way works like a charm
Anyway, since then, my NFC for normal profiles (Home, Work, Night time, etc) that I set up initially doesn't always work when I touch or swipe the phone over a TechTile --sometimes it works, other times it doesn't--. So, as often as not, I have to go into phone Settings and turn off and then back on again the NFC switch. At that point, it works fine once again, but having to go into Settings to disable and then re-enable the NFC function kind of defeats the purpose of having working NFC hardware (for regular use with profiles anyway).
Anyone else run into this problem or one similar to it?
P.S.: I have rebooted, etc. multiple times also and yet still, this issue randomly persists.
Any help is appreciated.

Wow really? No one else has installed Wallet and found that it broke their NFC for other NFC-related things (which by the way seems to be what happened)?

This is my problem too. I have to open google wallet, enter my pin, exit google wallet, then NFC becomes alive again.
Don't know what the root cause of the issue is.

Bump. Any solutions to this?

Google wallet not working? Hardware or software?

I haven't used Google wallet in a while but I decided to start again. I use the latest cm9 nightly and the latest Franco nightly. I downloaded Google wallet from get jar and have tried updating it through market but that version doesn't work. I'm tired of going to gas stations and looking like an idiot when Google wallet doesn't start up. I have tried 4 different locations to no avail. Is this a hardware or software problem? I'm using the samsung extended battery that I bought from Verizon and have used many times before. If there is anything else you need please ask

Uninstal wallet and use this to get it.
Do you get an error or does it simply not open?
Do you have NFC enabled in android settings>more?
I have a similar issue... while it would say 'sent' on the phone, the payment never went through.. what an embarrassment

When I put my phone up to the pay pass thing nothing happens. I tried opening the app and then putting it up to it but still nothing. Nfc has always been on. I really don't want to go somewhere and have it not work again. Is there any way to check if my nfc stopped working?

Are you using the "butt" of the phone?
i used the "top" part of the back at first, nothing happened. Then I tapped the "bottom" or "hump" of the back, and it worked flawlessly. Also, your phone needs to be turned on and at the home screen for it to work.
Stopped Working
For the past 2 weeks, Wallet initializes and then says Stopped Working. Any and all thoughts appreciated. Running stock ICS.

Google Now Traffic Card

For the life of me I cannot get this card to work. I have location history enabled in Google Maps and have entered my home and work adresses under location history's settings - traveled to and from work a few days, and nothing. Is there some other step I'm missing or is the traffic card glitched or something?
Thanks for the help.
You may go into the setting for that card and change the priority. Make it "none" and save. Then go back in and give it priority. Mine worked out of the box so I'm afraid I can't be much more help than that.

Yes it is, along with WiFi.
well I'm useless here. My device started showing me the travel card by itself. I didn't enter any address information however. It guessed my work and home address of its own accord. I'd try wiping the history and setting the priority to high for the card.
I am only curious how it guessed which place is my home...and it guessed correctly...for the work address it asked me to confirm its guess, but for home address no questioning...awesome...
Listen to me, you don't want this card enabled if you're anywhere but at home with your boring life. I've been travelling, and the traffic/directions card comes up all the time for places I haven't cared about but once a few days ago.
Well.. it's not officially a released feature. I can't complain too much, considering... well I've looked at all sorts of settings which would seem logical, but I keep getting directions to Walmart or the random bakery I went to the other day.
Google Now is really smart.. but it really tries too hard when you're not home.

Tried that too, so far still nothing. It showed up briefly due to a doctors appointment I had scheduled and it showed me the travel time, but then I refreshed Google Now and it disappeared once again.

Don't need to be signed into latitude as long as you have the addresses set. I have zero issues.
I looked under my location history information and settings which I entered about four days ago now...it says I've only been home for 4 hours and at work 0 hours which those two numbers are completely inaccurate.
Took me a day or two for it to learn my places.

I was having this issue myself, I got no traffic card even though I knew everything was set up. It was my favourite feature of Google now (especially for appointment reminders) and I was so disappointed! It seems in my googling plenty of people were having the issue and no answers anywhere.
I managed to get mine working, so I'm posting my solution in case someone else has the same problem and does the same googling. My problem was that somehow Google now was set to use public transport by default, however, there is no public transport info in my city. So no card at all. Unfortunately, Google now wouldn't let me change my settings as the traffic card has to be popped up in order to change the preferred transport method.
So I just uninstalled updates, then started Google now, went to settings, traffic, and switched my preferred transport method to driving. Traffic card appeared! I could then update back to the latest Google now and had my traffic cards back.
Good luck!

Does anyone know if cerberus works on Jelly Bean? Android Lost does not.
Anyone know of a good one that does (other than the 2 I like)?
Cerberus seems to be working fine on my N7
Thanks, I'll try it when I get home.

Cerberus 2.2 works fine on JB. I am using it on my Galaxy Nexus with JB 4.1.1 (N7 still on pre-order). Two 'issues' that I (and others) have found with Cerberus 2.2 (latest release version) are -
1 - If it takes a picture when someone puts in wrong unlock pin / password, it mutes sound and does not unmute it, and if you try unmute it, it does not 'stay' and requires reboot of phone
2 - Sometimes, after it takes picture on wrong pin / password, it does not send it to you.
The programmer of Cerberus gives GREAT and QUICK support and has already made 2 test versions in response to these issues. I am using loatest test version (Cerberus 2.3) and it is working great now. Thing I also like about Cerberus is that you can get a version you can flash using CWM, so it becomes part of your system, so even if someone steals your phone and does a system reset on your phone, Cerberus stays installed and accessible remotely.
Well now, it looks like the first thing I will buy with my 25 gift bucks is a license to Cerberus XD. Thanks for pointing it out, I've been using seekdroid on my phones but this app looks much better.

Hmm, Anti-Theft on a tablet is a bit more tricky... especially in a situation where your tablet is stolen, it's very likely it'll go out of WiFi range. So Anti-theft apps have no way to report its GPS location online or via SMS. And the theft would not be able to change WiFi networks either when using a security locked screen.

I don't lock my tablet for that reason. Using Cerberus disguised as system framework I would wait until they switched to a different wifi network, and they will, once they are at an actual house I would remotely password the screen so I could get a couple of pictures. I now have an address and a picture of the person. Even if they data reset the tablet it will not uninstall cerberus.
Even if it isn't the persons house you know they know that person, and go from there. I also don't keep anything too private on my tablet so i don't worry about a stranger getting into it.This is the best method I've thought of for tracking down somone with a wifi tablet.
I use webroot for antivirus and antitheft.

[Q] Google Wallet - Reader Detected - CM10

When I bought my S3, I used it for about 20 minutes before rooting it and installing CM10. I've flipped through a few nightlies on it and just set up Google Wallet a few days ago. I never used it. I think I flashed another nightly at some point and then tried using Google Wallet at a BP gas station. My phone triggered the first time and I had to enter my PIN. I put the phone back to the reader after entering the PIN and received a message "Reader Detected, please have the cashier check...." ( I need to grab a screenshot of the exact error).
I read up on a few things and reset the app from within the app and completed a resetup of the app. I tried at a different BP this morning and got the same result.
Am I just SOL using Google Wallet now - did I fry the Secure Element? From what I can read it doesn't seem like that I did.
Anyone else running CM10 able to get their Wallet working? I've seen a few guides for the international S3 but I don't want to do that and really fry something.
Do you have the cm dualboot installed?

It sounds like it might be the reader at the gas stations a lot of BPs don't have there's updated. Or if you have a case on your phone that could also cause interference.

I do have a case - I've done NFC transfers with my wife's phone but I'll try the next transaction with the case off. And I'll head somewhere else, thanks for the heads up on BP.
Tried McDonalds this morning - figured I needed coffee so might as well use them as a test bed.
No case this time. Put the phone on the reader, got the NFC sound and got prompted to enter PIN. Picked up the phone, entered PIN and was prompted to put the phone back to the reader. Put the phone back to the reader, got the NFC sound and the wallet "W" logo lit up. And that was it. I let it sit for 5 seconds or so then pulled the phone away and got the "reader detected..." message.
Do I just need to let this thing sit on the reader longer?
I've had this issue before, coincidentally at BP and McDonald's. Both times I used the reader I had forgotten to tell the person behind the counter "credit." So, maybe that's the reason?

So I grabbed the leaked official Sprint Jelly Bean ROM and put it on my phone. Didn't clear out Google Wallet ahead of time and re-set it up once I got the phone running again.
Went to a different McDonalds for another coffee (this testing is going to over caffeinate me) and it worked no problem. So it could be a CM10 problem or it could be the cashier at the other places I've tried. What I need to do now is put CM10 back on the phone and go to the McDonalds that it worked on to see if it is now broken.
For now though, a stock ROM is solid.

the secure element thing is a myth. i've never reset GW before wiping and it always works for me on CM10
I'm starting to think the same. When I switched to the official ROM I didn't do anything according to popular wisdom, just overwrote the phone with the new ROM and things worked. I switched back to CM10, just need to make it over to the McDonalds again to see if it works or not.
Its not like this is the most useful thing in the world either, considering how few places accept it, but I like to see if I can get things to work

I think it is actually something in CM10 causing the issue. I went back to CM10 and went back to the same stores that I had gotten it to work in using stock and had issues again. Ah well.
Just FYI for everyone still having issues with GWallet. I did the reset from inside the app, and it just so happens there was an upate for the app when I did that. Now running version 1.5-R81 - v4
I went to a McD to try it out and it worked. I did tell the cashier that it was "credit" since I read on another thread somebody had mentioned that. It lookes to me like he punched something on the screen. Rooted, FreGS3 v0.2.0 with Agat kernel v0.2.1
Hope it helps

I've used Tap and Pay at several locations with great success. CVS, Home Depot, Mcdonalds, and 711. I have also tried at BP several times and always got the error message you described. I always get strange looks from the cashier. One time a gas station attendant yanked the reader away and started asking what did I think I was doing? He seemed to think I was trying to hack into his card reader or something.

NFC has stopped working

This is really weird an issue;
For a little back story, I had a Nexus 5 before HTC 10. I use an app called Commbank app, it's a Australian banking app which also has a pay-via-nfc option whenever I go shopping and what not. Ever since I installed it on my Nexus 5 (and enabled the nfc option), the phone's NFC stopped working, but at that point I didn't realize it could have been the app. I installed the app on my HTC 10 too and now the NFC on my HTC is dead. It won't register any triggers at all. To confirm its stopped working, I've tried using NFC on my Nexus 7 tablet to my NFC enabled digital camera and it works just fine. But my HTC 10 doesn't. Anyone think the app could have done it? I can't help but think that'd be it. The NFC was working fine before that on my HTC 10. Any other methodology to troubleshoot it?
Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

That didn't work. I even did an absolute clean install of a rom. No luck so far. Looks like its permanently damaged somehow. Wow didn't think an app could do that much of damage.
I'd try an RUU back to full stock.

you guys get any results in the end? Is yours the Tesltra branded HTC? I can only get NFC to work paired up with another device with NFC.... can't get it to work with any NFC tags or cards.... also the phone was carrier modded and S-Off and unlocked which I found very odd....
