Fastboot: "Main Version is Older. Update fail." - HTC Wildfire S

I've been searching for an answer to this particular problem but nothing obvious has come up yet.
I've got a refurbished Wildfire S which I've unlocked using the HTC Dev. site and installed CM9 upon using the rom available in these forums. Initially I flashed clockworkmod via fastboot, but after installing CM9 it is no longer possible to boot to fastboot from a turned-off phone; the error message in the title is shown. I can still boot to recovery by booting the OS and choosing to reboot to recovery from there, although this is not likely to be useful if I ever need to fix an OS problem.
The phone is S-ON. Would gaining S-OFF help, and is there a way to do this without reflashing the OS? Or, is some sort of hboot update required? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

There must be a PG76IMG.zip on your sdcard. Delete or rename it

[SOLVED] Semi Bricked HTC Desire - Need help

Hello guys, I have a major problem on my HTC Desire. Most of it is my fault but please try to help out here and not judge me... :/
I use Miuimod. I had the 1.8.1 version and I went to install 2.1. The thing is that (for the first time!!!) I didn't check the last page of thread to find out that Miuimod 2.1 for Desire a major bug that forces an endless reboot.
And that's not all... Don't ask me why but.. I didn't make a NANDroid backup... :/ I was in a hurry and I didn't check the button from ROM Manager menu.
Also for a reason, I cannot boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. I only have hboot. Hboot lets you install a ROM only with the name update.zip. But even though I have renamed the last OpenDesire ROM as update.zip, it won't install it cause it doesn't have the proper signature.
So I'm kinda stuck with a semi bricked HTC Desire. Any suggestions?
(And just for the record, yeah, lesson learned... )
Are you s-off? If so, just flash a new recovery image through fastboot.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Wrong forum, Q/A should be right...
Try flashing clockwork over fastboot:
"fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img"
Put your SD in your computer and copy a ROM.zip on it, than flash as usual ?
Why why why??
What have you learnt from this mistake? Yes, ALWAYS install a custom recovery. Saves you this kind of trouble.
Okay I'm of no help, but I just wanted to tell.
@markuz85 No I'm s-on. In order to change to s-off I need to boot into device (right?).
@westernmg I'm trying to but adb shows no devices and I'm kinda stuck there.
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance...
Try to pull out the battery and wait a few seconds then power on the phone again and press power+vol- and select recovery. If this don't work try to reflash an official htc desire rom renamed in update.zip from hboot.
Thanks for the answer. Can't find an official rom though. Can you point me at one?
@9600pro87 I did what you said but still nothing...
Try this: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...3.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe

Am I missing something? These files are .exe. How am I suppose to use them?Shouldn't be .zip so I can install them via hboot?

Hboot is ok, at least with phone off too if i remember right. The updater reboot the phone automatically.
It doesn't work. I get error [170] "Cannot connect to phone.." etc. Is it that I have changed the Radio?

Fortunately I solved the problem. This is what I did:
I basicaly rerooted my phone using Modaco's method. So when finished I had the default ROM again. Thank you all for your help!
Good that you solved the issue. But just so you know, that method of rooting is outdated. Rooting does not need downgrading, as of current hboots

In the info you stated s-on.
Shouldn't it be s-off for flashing.
Did you try reflashing recovery through fastboot and then trying to boot into recovery using HOLD vol. - and PRESS power?
When will you guys learn to search and also that a bricked phone doesn't do anything more than a brick can do? (hence the word bricked) You can't turn on a brick can you? I.e. your phone is not bricked...

Find the RUU for your exact version. Only that will work on your device in its current state.
Agreed. Once you have flashed the RUU you can root s-off etc.
i can find a zip file which name is Desire_HD_1.37.921.1_stock_twn.zip. I couldnt find a RUU.exe just find a zip file. How can i use it?
i think i use this zip file with clockwork recovery. But the question is how can i install clockwork recovery at my situation.
Is it possible to install with this command " fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.1-passion.img " for example.
Any idea? Any suggestion?

You can't install clockwork as you don't have s-off.
You need to find the .exe RUU.
Check through the posts left by hawks. If they don't work search google. Also if You still can't find one. Check the htc website for an RUU update. Depending on on your operator you may need an RUU from them instead. I know t-mobile uk release seperate updates from htc.

HTC Desire Z - Stuck at HTC Logo (Not Rooted)

Hi all,
Well, I guess the title says it all. I got a HTC Desire Z which gets stuck at the HTC logo when booting up. The device is not rooted in anyway. It's just a original device getting jammed into the HTC logo
I do manage to access the HBoot though, however when I try to access "Recovery" the device freezes up.
When I select "Factory Reset" the device starts the process, but then it turns itself off with a couple of vibrations before it completely shuts down.
Is there any way to fix this?

I think your partitioning is corrupted or something like that.
Use fastboot and flash the device... Hopefully it will solve the issue.
Do you got a guide on doing that ? Im not so familiar with the Desire Z, since it's just a phone that I got from a friend.

try this,

Ok, so I downloaded the file and moved it to the SD Card and renamed it. Should I select "Recovery" once Im in the HBoot ?
No hboot should've scanned for it and either asked you to update, or given a reason why its not allowed.

Well, when Im in Hboot it can choose between:
- Fastboot
- Recovery
- Factory Reset
- Simlock
- Image CRC
Nothing else shows up
The phone is not rooted, and does not have any clockwork recovery or nothing like that. Its completly original
I can also mention that it scans for something really quick and then it goes back to Hboot. Like it it just flashed mentioning something with"Not found" with green color letters
Ok, sorry for the post spam, but I think I managed to crack it, maybe.
So I added the PC10IMG.ZIP onto my SD, and HBoot managed to find it.
Now, it says:

[Q] Error 191 when using RUU - Rom not supported

G'day Guys,
I am trying to root my desire HD. currently 2.3.5
I initially followed the HTCDEV method
For my phone which downloaded the RUU program. PD9810000_Ace_Sense30_S_hboot_2.00.0029.exe
this is for Desire HD Vodaphone australia.
I ran the RUU successfully once. It supposedly upgraded the image from 2.12.178.2 to 3.13.0.0
apon rebooting into the fastboot screen as per the HTCDEV instructions when attempting to fastboot I recieved errors saying
"no image or wrong image" or something to that effect.
at this point I went back to the drawing board and tried the HOW TO ROOT WITHOUT HACK KIT thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168500) method and script for unlocking the bootloader. which downloaded the same RUU program
apon running it this time it still wished to updrade from 2.12.178.2 to 3.13.0.0 and i recieved the error
ERROR [191]: Rom is not supported
I have searched several threads with this error however none of them seemed to have a solution ie.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2264987
I cannot locate and temporary ROM zips as per this thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21231962

Appologies for the first thread question and its length.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks and Regards
Ben
So I renamed the rom.zip file copied it to the root folder of the SD card.
booted into fast boot. updated
it said "parsing bootloader complete"
however the phone still appears to be 3.12.178.2 ...
the next step
step 8
htcdev[dotcom]/bootloader/unlock-instructions/page-3
"fastboot oem get_identifier_token"
wont run as it sits there <waiting for device>
if I run the RUU again it still says need to update to 3.13 and that its error 191 invalid rom.

The top part, the one where you say RUU, that's not a RUU, that just simply updates the HBOOT.

http://androidforums.com/cdma-evo-3d-all-things-root/476366-help-w-htcdev-waiting-device.html
downloading sdk
MY current stats are
hboot-2.00.0029
radio-26.14.04.28_m
android 2.3.5
htc sense 3.0
software version 3.12.178.2

Find what build version and main you are running by using the command in fastboot USB:
fastboot getvar all
Delete the IMEI and paste the outcome

I was being a numpty and didnt have sdk installed. I have to crash tonight but will install it tomorrow. then try htcdev again,
if it dosent work i will do as suggested. if its something that simple I will feel a bit stupid. will keep you guys updated.
thanks again all for your help
Ok I have unlocked bootloader. I was being a bit of a numpty and not doing the "get identifier token" command whilst the phone was actually on fastboot... the htcdev instructions confused me.
I will keep this post open as I know i will have more problems as I go.
Thanks all for your help so far
do i have to
3. Download rooted stock rom: http://www.multiupload.nl/20T9R21IGY
(link to rom thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...t=rooted+stock )
copy the ROM zip file to your SD card.
as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2221039
or can I go straight to download a newer rom. a 4.2 or something and continue on the process
Ok, where I am at.
I have flashed the stock rooted rom as per the guide.
it works fine and has root access.
I didnt go through the process for S-OFF from step 6 onwards as I got a little lost what i needed to do as I had already done some of the goldcard steps. either way.
I am currently unlocked and rooted. with 2.3.5 stock rooted rom.
I tried to install a cryogenmod rom and jellytime rom.
as per this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1866122
I installed them from the cwm recovery then tried to "flashboot flash boot boot.img" with their respective boot.img.
both roms didnt progress past the htc boot screen they just black screened.
can anyone hint why these roms wouldnt load? is it an s-on issue? or am i lost with the boot.img or missing another step?
i have reloaded the stock rooted image using cwm and flashboot flash boot boot.img
Thanks all
Ben
The command is "fastboot," not flashboot." Are there any errors when you run it?

Ah appologies I am blind today.
No error msgs. Boot.IMG is coppied over as it is when I do it with the rooted stock Rom.
Just when rebooting afterwards. The phone does its .HTC flash screen for like 30 secs then it goes to a black screen (phone on) indefinitely.
The process I am using is
1 zip Rom on sdcard.
2 cwm delete user data
3 cwm install zip image from sdcard which works
4 reboot
5 fastboot USB
6 from pc: fastboot flash boot boot.IMG (extracted from Rom zip)
Am I doing anything incorrectly or missing a step.
Rooted, unlocked bootloader s-on
Thanks all
Is the phone in fastboot? What ROM? What recovery version?

The phone was in fastboot USB
The working Rom is the one listed shoved from the full root sticky..3.12.405.1 rooted by nitr00
The 2 Roms that failed were jellytime and cryogen. Either the current or most recent stable apparently
Recovery is cwm. It's a slightly older version I think though. It was the only one I could find at the time.
Maybe 2. Something. I'll reboot now and check. Could that be an issue?
Bootloader unlocked
Hboot 2.00.0029
Radio 26.14.04.28m
Cwm recovery v 2.5.1.2
Yay just tried with the latest version of CWM and it works... FFS why wouldnt I have used the current version.
anyway I am playing with 4.2.2 jelly time now.
Thanks so much every contributor. your replies helped me keep going.

HTC wildfire Rooted but still S-On..cannot flash CWM recovery and CM 7

Please help..
I've been planning to install a CM7 my old HtC Wildfire A3333 to give it a new life.I have successfully unlocked the bootloader through HTCDEV and gained root by using WinDroid..Also have SuperSU installed already and used ROM
Manager to flash CWM recovery/TWRP..But when I reboot to access Recovery it goes back to stock Android recovery and it says INSTALLATION ABORTED when installing Zip from SD card..I know I cannot use REVOLUTIONARY because my HROOT is 1.02.000 and I find it hard to downgrade to HBOOT 1.01.000..Did I mess up on something???
Thanks XDA..

you need to flash clockworkmod Via fastboot commands buddy. Download clockworkmod as a recovery.img and then flash it using the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, its similar to when you flashed the unlock_token.bin to unlock your hboot so the recovery.img needs to be in the fastboot folder.
Thanks HMM..Still cannot flash I'm sorry for being stupid this is my first time rooting..do i need to s-off first? ..please check my screenshots
ALSO tried your suggestion on PC49img.Zip..Also not working

Flashing a custom recovery from a stock recovery wont work. It checks that the stuff its about to flash is from htc and a custom recovery is not made by htc. You must use fastboot. What errors if any is the fastboot command giving you?

In the fastboot commands is (Waiting for Device)....I've waited for 15 mins but I think the PC is not recognizing the phone..It also says ONE OF THE Usb is not working something like that.....
I've read in one of XDA treads that Its possible to DISABLE Signature VERIFICATION
Will that work??one more thing, what is the easiest and PROVEN way to S-off HTC WILDFIRE with HBoot 1.02.000...much like revolutionary..Many Thanks..
Use windows 7
Windows 8 didn't work with fastboot only adb with my HTC WILDFIRE A3333, Windows 7 works install driver from windows
IF you are only looking forward for CWM recovery you don't need fastboot
