Just wondering how well the s4/adreno combo handles compressed 720p/1080p video? Better than Tegra 3?
not sure of better...but it plays fine without a glitch and seeking is instant. (playing 720p m4v files)
I play 1080p videos, I don't know of issues.
everything works great for me

I have a few movie clips that i kept from my HD2 and some of these work fine and others only play sound and no picture.
I have downloaded some 720p mp4 trailers from gametrailers.com and these only play sound.
Is there anyway to sort this out?
I thought all the clips that played on my HD2 would have played on this phone?
Thanks for any help.
I had a similar problem with a 720p MP4 file I had.
Converted it to a .WMV and a .AVI, same problem occured.
The only way I could fix it was render it as 480p instead, after which it worked flawlessly.
Probably a better way to get it working, but as a last resort you can try the above.
Max res video on Desire is 800x480 at the moment, 720p and divx support coming in future update.
Since I couldn't find any reviews specifying this, I have created a poll. This is the closest thing I found - "YouTube videos played quite smoothly (360p-480p)"
Are you able to stream YouTube at 480p smoothly? (zero stuttering/dropped frames)
This is in regards to my previous thread:

you can watch 720p fine with jetvd from the market. I do it all the time..uses so much data though O.O
Thanks for the tip, jetVD works nicely - smooth 720p.
I CBA to send the phone for repair for 4 weeks just to potentially fix a small issue.
Edit: the KeepVid app looks exactly the same as jetVD
I only watch via WiFi, is faster and saves me €10 a month.
But streaming HD still seems to lag (I use Opera Mini w/ lastest Flash Player), I think the phone (I have a Neo) can't handle streaming HD well enough...
It can handle 720p streaming just fine, only not through Flash. Video playing through Flash still isn't optimal, but that is just flash. When going through the Yt desktop site not even 480p works completely smooth here.
With JetVD you can watch 720p streaming just fine, and since JetVD uses the Gallery player it even uses the Bravia engine, AND the output over HDMI would be real 720p and not just 854x480 upscaled!
can galaxy nexus play divx or h264 video files with 720p or fullHD (1080p) resolution without lag? with stock video player or 3rd party video player on market.
if the videos can run without lag, i'll consider to buy this phone.
if it's lagging, perhaps i should consider buying galaxy note because their price is similar..

I'm using MX player. (work great 4.0.3) and I using aokp build #19, kernel is frenco kernel #13.
tested 720p/60fps -> smoothly.. really 60fps!! (video is H264/[email protected], sound is AAC/320Kbps. total average bitrate is 8000Kbps.) format is mp4.
tested 1080p/29.97fps -> smoothly. (but it is youtube 1080P, H.264 [email protected] I'm not test H.264 [email protected]) bitrate is 10.0Mbps. format is mp4.
but I'm tested in 4.0.2 roms, not smoothly.. Especially, 720p/60fps is too slow. (video rag)
Anyway, I'm recommend MX player + 4.0.3 roms!
I have used dice player and seems to play everything great for the most part.
There is one thing though that sort of bothers me and I can't figure out if it is a codec issue but certain videos with certain scenes that are in a dark gray/black, it will play on the device as blocky. The quality looks horrible when it does that.
I went to play the same video on my fascinate and looked perfect.
I did some research and it seems the Samsung Note has a similar issue, so not sure if it is codec related or not.
Just something to keep in mind.

I play 1080p mkv all the time, have to use mx player though. runs like a dream, although I am also rooted AOKP milestone 2, franco 13, never tried with a 4.0.2 or stock.
I cant, as the title says, get videos to play completely smooth on my fire. I know I am picky about stuttering when I am watching videos, but several of the videos I have converted are clearly not smooth on my kindle(they are on my pc).
I mostly tried with different versions of gedeROM and mxPlayer, but i have also tested with some other roms and videoplayers, and its almost the same. In handbrake I have tried to adjust codecs for video and sound, and bitrate and container. Some of the rendered videos are worse than other, but none are perfect.
Is there anybody which are experiencing the same problems? If not; what setting/players do you use?
I am using hw decoding and no overclocking
Have you tried using other files you haven't encoded yourself? I stream video over a home network with Bsplayer lite and samba share and a wide variety of formats and encoding profiles work fine.
I have used Handbrake though, the Ipad (1st gen) preset works well and is a good starting point if you're one of those people that has to tweak the hell out of everything .
Lotek, you are my hero! Thanks bsplayer worked way better than mx and moboplayer. The ipadpreset worked pretty well as well. Now i can enjoy videos on my Kindle
This is for those who have issues in playing Youtube HD files and 720p files on Defy+ and to find the best tweaked settings (CPU Freq, Voltage, memory, settings etc) that enables us to do so.
I have found some interesting facts.
1) Youtube HD (1080) plays without any lag when media.stagefright is enabled.
2) When it is disabled, HD shows black screen
3) All mkv files play on the Defy+. I tried 720p, and it plays sometimes (not always...sometimes it lags and audio/video has sync issues)
Just fyi, HD enabled in YouTube isn't 1080, it is probably 480p as that is the native res of our phone (854x480).
I have found that for Other HD files like MKV and MP4, they play fine as long as the bitrate is low. Higer bitrates and weird things start to happen, like video lagging or not playing at all.
Your facts aren't valid for all roms.
E.g. on CM10 you can't run 720p yet.
