About to unlock my bootloader - concerns - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
Here's my current specs:
LT15i
4.0.4
2.6.32.9–perf
[email protected] #1
Mooded ICS 90.2
Bootloader unlock allowed: no (so I purchased a code)
Rooted and running CWM
So as the title says, I am about to unlock my bootloader but had some questions first. Ultimately my goal is to unlock my bootloader so I can flash the ArcKnight kernel and run the updated Mooded ROM.
1) After unlocking the bootloader, will it still be rooted and have CWM?
2) Do I have to keep the SD card in when I unlock the bootloader or can I remove it to prevent it from being wiped?
3) What are the exact steps I should take from a to z? (I have read tons of guides but most don't start off with my above settings/situation)
So far I have backed up via CWM, Titanium backup (for apps), MyBackup (system settings) and have also saved all my SD card contents on my PC.
This is how I thought this would go, and I could be very wrong lol so please correct me if I am.
Make backups with everything above, unlock bootloader, restore all backups (first the one from CWM, then Titanium, then MyBackup), flash kernel, update ROM, done?
Thank you!

SD card has nothing to do with the actual phone itself, so yeh you can remove it (i think data wont be wiped)

Thanks for the reply.
Can anyone else confirm what he has said (about retaining root, not needing the SD card plugged in when unlocking bootloader, etc)
I have seen that video before and wanted to ask a question. I have been told all I need to do is insert a "non accepted" SIM card in the phone, restart it and it will prompt me for a code, I enter my unlock code and that's it. Is the method in the video just another way of doing this? Any advantages/disadvantages?

1. Yes.
2. It's irrelevant.
3. Reread the guides.
Restore everything after you've updated/installed a ROM.

The process of unlocking the BL does not affect kernel, Rom, sd card, data.
After you change Roms and kernel you will have to restore.

Hey guys,
So I have run into a bit of a snag, sort of at a stand still. Bare with me as I am still pretty noobie to this whole thing.
My phones status is Bootloader unlock allowed: No. So I thought doing the method of inputting another SIM card into the phone and entering an unlock code would unlock my bootloader I appear to be wrong, did I only just unlock my SIM? When I go and check the status of it again the phone still says Bootloader unlock allowed: No.
So I figured I would attempt to move forward anyways. I am following all the steps in the guides but I cannot get the phone to boot into fastboot mode. When I plug the USB in I am holding the menu button. After a few seconds the LED does go blue for a few seconds but then it turns off and goes orange and takes me to the charging screen (as if you were charging your phone while it was powered off)
I have tried booting into fastboot mode via X-Parts as well as Flashtool with no luck. I am assuming I have failed to unlock the bootloader but am sort of stumped.
I am still searching/learning as we speak, but feel free to point me in the right direction! What am I doing wrong here guys?
Thanks again

If you changed the SIM, the code you bought was for SIM unlock, not unlock bootloader.
To unlock bootloader you need a dongle (I think it's called SETool) or something of that sort. There are people who have them and unlock BLs for a certain amount of money. Try contacting them.

And the plot continues to thicken haha. I did stumble across this method earlier, seemed sort of complex so I was hoping to avoid it. I guess ill do a bit of digging into the SETool method now, assuming that's my only option at this point?

[Q] Bootloader

How do I check if my xperia arc's bootlader if its locked or unlocked? Do i need to run fastboot using pc or I can just check the phone's info and I will know if its already unlocked. Thanks
As far as I know, all new arc comes with locked bootloader. You have to go to their site to follow procedure unlocking it and you need to give your imei number.

IF U HAVE NOT UNLOCKED THE BOOTLOADER BY YOURSELF,THEN IT IS LOCKED

Why do u want to unlock?
To be able to install third party or maybe flash with custom rom in the future.

Cool Thanks I will not do it then it just took 2.3.3 update yesterday and everything working fine. Couple more thing, do I need to format card and how do you do it using menu? What is APK and what does it do after installing it to SD card?
Thanks for your help very much appreciated.
it depends upon you,if u want to format u can format, otherwise there is no specific need to format
i am not having a arc,so i dont know how to format it using menu, but i guess format option must be present somewhere in file manager or settings........
APK is the file extension of android software's......
installing it to sd card will save your phone memory space and reduces phone laggs or slow down...........

[Q] R800a can not OTA update or enter fastboot, root problems? mode.

I recently purchased a R800 from someone on Craigslist. The phone is already rooted, permanantly I think since it is rooted after doing a factory restore. It is not sim locked, I believe its factory unlocked.
I tried to do the OTA update, which downloads, but fails to install. It appears to get about 3/4 of the way done, reboots and gives me an "update failed" message.
I wanted to unlock the boot loader, I got the unlock key from SE. I must of tried 10 times to get the phone to boot into fastboot mode, it NEVER does it. It simply boots up normally. I even got an app that makes it easy to reboot into restore or fastboot modes (just click an option and it reboots), however just like before the phone simply reboots normally. I even did a factory restore prior to trying the update... no go.
Should I try to remove the root access? Is this what is giving me all the problems. I was able to successfully install root explorer and titanium backup and both of those programs worked fine.
R800i, Android 2.3.3, Kernel 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1, Build number 3.0.1.A.0.145
Edit: Title should be "Can not OTA or enter fastboot mode, root problems?"
Is your phone sim locked? Sim locked phones need to be unlocked before able to unlock bootloader or fast load. After you unlock bootloader make sure you never ota update.

Your phone has a locked bootloader and a factory lockout on fastboot.
Best advice to you is flash the r800a world generic 2.3.2 root it with gingerbreak then ota update. Use a program called wontanserver as its super easy.
Dont get anyone to remove your factory locks on fastboot until you read tons of threads on these fourms from the last couple months.
Ok, lets see....

My phone is the R800a. It was my understanding that this phone was never locked (factory unlocked). It came in an official Sony Ericsson box and has no carrier branding on it what-so-ever. It was not purchased through a carrier. It does have a weird stock data APN called "Telekila"?!?!?

Doesn't wontonserver require credits to run? How expensive does this get?
I didn't know the phone could have a factory lock on the bootloader. I did go to the SE website where you get the unlock key and it was successful in giving me a key... Well I shouldn't exactly say "successful", it did give me a key code to use if and when I can unlock the bootloader, weather or not that code is actually legit remains to be seen. I'm a bit skeptical now since you said the phone is bootloader locked from the factory. I though SE was allowing their phones to be unlocked. I recently unlocked my Motorola Atrix and was expecting to do the same with this phone.
Thank you guys for the advice. I love this phone so far but I can't wait to get a custom rom on it
It uses credits but they are free.
There are currently 2 gentlemen on these forums that can remove your fastboot locks and unlock your bootloader.
Have a look for thier threads on this matter
I would like to have this done now, so gentlemen, whomever is able to do this please message me and we can work something out. Im dieing to get a new rom on this awesome phone/game console.

I flashed the r800a world generic 2.3.2 rooted it with gingerbreak then ota updated.I get the same thing as DMpire , reboots and gives me an "update failed" message.
Is this because I removed some of the stock apps that came on the phone after it was rooted? Anyone know about this?
Does it matter if the SD card is mounted or not?
Removing stock apps then trying to ota isnt going to happen. Reflash, root, ota, then remove your stock apps
Is there any easy way to do this? can I reflash it as it has a locked bootloader, or do I have to get the bootloader unlocked?

[Q] Recovery-Bootloader Locking and Unlocking

Hi all....
2 quick questions....
My Nexus LTE is rooted
when I try to boot into recovery......either with ROM Manager or fastboot...I get the Android with the red triangle.....is it because I have my bootloader locked???
Even though I unlocked it to root...I locked it just in case I have to bring it back to Verizon...
also......If I do have to unlock it to get to recovery.........after I unlock it...would I lose all my data and apps?
1. If you've not unlocked it yet then unlocking it will delete everything
2. You need to unlock it and then flash ClockworkMod to be able to flash a new ROM
I'm about to do this also.
Unlock, root.
I think what the OP is asking is once you unlock and root... can you relock the bootloader without messing up root?
Also when you unlock and it wipes your phone, does it erase everything I've copied over to the internal SD card? I have like 10gb's of music, files, pics, etc.
I think the answer to the above is YES. But just want to make sure. That would really suck as I normally wipe my phone often when crackflashing. Sometimes I'll flash a rom but find out mid-day that it sucks and it'll require a wipe and reload an older version.
Anyway, rooting seems easy enough. Push some files. I'm just curious about how the internal SD card plays its role in all this... as I've always had an SD Card.

I am no expert - but I am pretty sure you are correct.
1. You re-locked your bootloader. So - no custom recovery.
2. Unlocking your bootloader is going to wipe everything. Including your "sd card partition" (whatever you want to call it). So if you have pictures or other important files you need - transfer them before you unlock your bootloader.
3. I would just leave it unlocked. If you need to lock it for warranty issues it is very easy to re-lock. Right? Isn't it something like...
Code:
reboot into bootloader
enter the fastboot command
fastboot oem lock
done
hope that helps. maybe someone will chime in.
So unlocking the bootloader will Kill your sd card files. What about normal wipes from CWM?
I rooted...(no custom rom...leaving it stock)...then relocked my bootloader.....
I then installed all the apps I wanted........
I also was able to get into CWR and make a backup...
now if I try to go into CWR I get the android with the red triangle
why? Is it because I locked the bootloaded? Is that why I get the red trianlge? because bootloader is locked? I can't even get into stock recovery and if it is...if I unlock the bootloader...It will wipe data..and I dont feel like doing that right now.....unless there is another way to get the red triangle fixed
EDIT::::::::::::::::::::: I went to my Rom Manger app...and I reinstalled CWR...and lo and behold.....I was able to boot into Recovery with no problem.....even with my bootloader locked.......

[Q] Confused over LTi5i bootloader access

Hi.
I'm a relative noob and have been round and round in circles, looking for the exact answer to my question.
Basically, my LT15i is a useless piece of junk - it constantly complains about space and when I did my last reinstall to factory settings, I did the bit that meant certain apps are forced to appear on the SD card instead of the internal.
Is is my understanding that unlocking the bootloader will give me even more freedom with the phOne and i can install another ROM onto it and uninstall crap that is taking up space - am I right? I want to make my phone better!
However, the sony site says that my phone cant be unlocked. And your site says it can be unlocked! What are the steps please that i need to follow in order to unlck the bootloader on my phone? I have searched and cannot find the answer anywhere. I would be so grateful for some help on making my phone better becuase most of the time I want to the phone out of the window!!!
Many thanks for your time
Lisa
1. Please reeeead a little on the general thread.
2. The lt15 is an amazing phone
------------------------------------
To your problem:
Actually the "root" gives te feature to remove junkapps
Unlocked bootloader allows costum roms and mods to your phone
After root you can use "link2sd", where you make a partition on your sd and connecting it with the app as an internal storage to get more space
Bootloader unlock status check:
Go to phone, write *#*#7378423#*#* goto the service info then config. If the rooting status of bootloader says yes, i suggest you to testpoint it to unlock. If no, the unlock have a price.
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
As above, really. With root you can make enough modifications to the stock firmware, such as remove bloatware, backup apps, partition your sdcard, etc., to vastly improve the running. Unlocking the bootloader will let you use custom kernels that certain roms need, and it's 'relatively' straightforward. But if your phone can't be unlocked via Sony then there's normally a charge to unlock it via testpoint.

[HELP] Unlock Bootloader: NO/ Rooting Problems SE Xperia Arc (LT15i)

Hi,
First off sorry for any reposts is didnt know what else to do after reading forum posts for hours and hours.
So heres the Crack. I'm tring to flash CM 9 onto my SE Xperia Arc (LT15i) and so far here is what i have done.
dialed *#*#7378423#*#* and found my phone is BOOTLOCKER ENABLED=NO
Asked o2 for a Sim Unlock Code
Entered that unlock code sucssesfuly
re dialed the num in point one to find that is sill says no
tried putting into fastboot anyway (as suggested by users in another post)
I'm other things i did where email and ring o2 both gave me no help and email sony mobile and recive no reply after now a week and a half
does anyone have any tips on turning the boot loader to say yes as that is my only hurdle to rooting this phone, i believe it is possible as i read a page on the sony forums sayinf a spansih comanpy called movistar was offering it for there customers however i then though one last ditch attempt with o2 on there forums where the customer service lady flatout refuses knowlage of a bootloader.
in summery a) sorry for rambling a little b) is it even possible by any means to change the UNLOCK BOOTLOADER: NO to UNLOCK BOOTLOADER: YES. and if so how?? c) sorry again if this is a duplicate post i didnt know what else to do at this stage.
If the SIM unlock was successful you should be able to unlock your bootloader. Just follow the steps here:

Actually no. Just removing the SIM-lock does not enable fastboot (and does not change Bootloader Unlock Allowed, it still stays on No).
The only way to unlock bootloader is by using test point method, if your phone is manufactured before 12W11 (11th week of 2012). You can check it under the battery. If your phone is manufactured after 12W11, then you can not unlock your bootloader and can only use stock-based ROMs.
There is no known solution to this at the moment and due to lack of interest by developers, it is highly unlikely someone will work on it.
It seems like i found the solution.
you have to pay £10 via paypal on phoneunlockserver(dot)com
and he will log on to you computer via himatchi and you put your tweezers on the test point (for the arc its under the sim card) and then plug into the usb and he flashes a kernal or something.
i havn't tried this out yet but if anyone has please let me know how it went

No need to remove SIM-lock, just find the guide to unlock bootloader via test point method using S1Tool. Follow the guide and it should work.
You can do it pretty much by yourself, no need to pay, if I remember correctly.
