By "unlocked", what does it mean to you.
For me, a rooted android with S- off is also unlocked. Meaning that you can flash a different Operating System (ROM) that is custom made. It is void of "bloatware" that each carrier installs with their ROM. Here is the wikipedia definition ; http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooting_(Android_OS)
Is this what you are thinking?

Rooted doesn't mean sim unlocked though

And that was what I was wondering if that is what the OP wanted to know.

What I wanted to know if I can use the phone aside from the t-mobile network.
like if I was to pop in an AT&T sim card in it.

sim unlock
ask TMobile for the code to unlock your phone. Rooting is something different....

Not sure about the sim unlock but I would think it would still be unlocked. You will lose root though.

Sim unlock won't be affected. Neither will root. Hard reset only formats /data/ partition. The files for root are in /system/app/ and /system/xbin/
Awsome thanks sooo much

How do I flash cm9 on xperia play

Ok I have rooted and flashed cwm recovery now I want to flash a new rom but if found out its not as easy as usual i don't get it plz help

Have you unlocked your boot loader? or is it locked?
You need to start there.. If you installed the CWM for locked bootloaders it will not help you as you can not install a new kernel.
How do I find out?

Lol, i unlocked my bootloader and i havent paid for it. You just need to know if bootloader is unlockable. And if you dont know what to do, i wouldnt recommend it to you doing it.

Yea I get that I don't think I can unlock it like I said I looked to see if it could and I'm missing the root settings in that pop up menu

Goto the Phone Application and type in:*#*#7378423#*#*
Then tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If: Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes, then you can Unlock your bootloader. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked
Please Press the THANK YOU Button, if it helped you )
It doesent give me the root status option

Can any one direct me to the roms for locked bootloaders plz

lets not make it more complicated then it is
1 if you dont know if you bootloader is unlocked its NOT !. you need to unlock it first before you move on from here ! once that is done you move on to step 2 .
2 if you have CMW flashed. then when you turn on your phone Click the volume up button untill it boots in to recovery. once ther you can flash CM9.
if you have the GMS version you can do it your self directly from sony's website. Not sure about verizon and other CMDA versions.

Ps. Remember to put CM9 zip you Downloaded on the root of the SD card. otherwise you cant ofcause not flash it.

not neccesarily as it could be preowned or the service menu apk removed or various other things.
also wrong, you can only unlock gsm sim unlocked and a few locked ones not all gsm phones.

My phone didn't have the root status menu but i was still able to unlock my bootloader

Just did sim unlock, would it be okay to flash a rom?

I just sim unlocked(http://www.sidhtech.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s4-guides-how-to-unlock-your-s4/10022101/) my phone by going from 4.1.2 back to 4.1.1 and hitting the number pattern on the dialer and it's now working on T-mobile. Can I install a custom recovery and a new rom and keep my phone sim unlocked?
Umm, what are you talking about? You need to root your device (which you can do) and install a custom recovery (which you cannot do due to the currently locked bootloader).

Unlocking Carrier

Hi my friend has my old galaxy s3 and its an ATT one and its still on the old 4.1.2 with the old modem and its unlocked carrier wise so he can use his T-Mobile Sim card. If I update it to 4.3 or the latest modem is it going to still be unlocked/ be able to be unlocked?

Yes it will, an unlock is permanent and cannot be undone. But if you ever want to root or flash a rom, I would not suggest doing this due to the fact that 4.3 makes rooting and flashing roms difficult, not to mention that you will not be able to downgrade.

[Q] Verizon Xperia Play r800x

Hi everyone. I completely apologize for this question as I am absolutely new to Android and to unlocking a phone. I just bought a R800x Verizon Xperia Play for the sole purpose of being able to play emulators. I will not be activating it to use as a phone. I have read as much as I can and am still a little confused in regards to being able to unlock the bootloader and install roms.
If the bootloader message says No, am I not able to unlock it or install roms at all?
If it says yes, can I install any rom, or am I limited to what I saw as Cola and a few others?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone help me out. Or can I keep it locked but install cola?
You can.unlock the bootloader I have mine unlocked using sonys unlock method but.if you wish to.stay with a locked bootloader yoj can.install cola but you'll have to.root 2.3.3 install clock work mod.recovery I my.self.am.vefy glad I unlocked my.bootloadef and since yoj habe.no.intentions of using the phone side yoj could install numeruous amounts of gsm roms

If I unlock it using that method. I've read the forums. I just need to get flash tool then and pick a rom I want to use. Most roms come with the clockwork recovery from what I'm seeing.

Well all roms have root and superuser your clockwork recovery on the other hand is in the kernels and flashtool is a life saver on so.many levels lol I'm trying to reset mine up since.my.computer crashed and.I went.to a lap top running windows xp home as of right now.I.can flash ftfs, my phone isn't being recognizes for fastboot so ya lol I'm on 2.3.3 stock without root it sucks not having root unlocked bootloader and.not.being able to.flash a kernel lol
